    - C# interfaces, loading just the methods of the interface in the child class not the whole object into memory with new operator If you make an interface like this public interface IProcessInterface, and you have a subclass that uses that interface, along w/ other itnerfaces, but you want only the methods identified in IProcessInterface to be loaded into memory, is there a way to load only the interface methods and class data instead of the whole object?     - Problems copying output dll's in a post build step I have a solution that has several projects, where many of the projects contain controls that are discovered at runtime, rather than direct reference (this is a requirement). Therefore, the 'copy local' reference copy mechanism of visual studio does not help me move projects around. My first attempt at setting up the solution was to set the output directory for the projects to a common directory. This did not work for the common dll's that are referenced by several projects because the dll is locked, presumeably because of intellisense. This was a while ago, so I don't remember all the exact problems, but they all had to do with projects being in use, preventing me to build. My second attempt (and current) is to let each project have its own output directory, and also copy the output in a post build step to a bin directory. This works most of the time. However, occasionally, the post build step will fail for some projects will fail, claiming the dll is locked - presumeably for the same reason as my first attempt. Why this sometimes works, and others not, I have no idea. My question: is there any way to reliably setup a project so that I can copy the output dll after it builds to another location.     - Validating Email address with System.Text.RegularExpressions.RegEx Hi John, Using this regular expression: "\w+([-+.]\w+)*@\w+([-.]\w+)*\.([a-zA-Z]{2,4})" and testing it with an email address of dnlwhite@dtgnet.comabcdefg will come back and indicate that is a valid email address but the {2,4} should restrict the values after the '.' to no more than four characters. That's the first part of the neither I was referring to. Using the same expression, the email address dnlwhite@dtgnet.com1234 also returns that it is a valid email address but the [a-zA-Z] seems to indicate that there should not be anything other than alphabetical characters after the '.'.     - Bug on DataRow object´s GetColumnsInError method According to .NET Framework v1.1 Documentation, the DataRow object´s GetColumnsInError method gets an array of columns that have errors. This description made me think, develop and test a .NET Windows Application in a disconnected scenario. This application has a WindowsForm with a SqlDataAdapter object that fills a DataSet object. The resultant relational data is then displayed on a DataGrid control. At this time, the data can be modified. In this situation, various instances of the same .NET Windows Application running simultaneously can generate a System.Data.DBConcurrencyException when the SqlDataAdapter object´s Update method is called. Note that the SqlDataAdapter object is configured to use optimistic concurrency. If this exception occurs, the exception-handling structure´s Catch block can implement code to show, for example, a friendly message to the user detailing the accurate cells that had caused the errors. DataSet, DataTable and DataRow objects have the boolean property HasError that help developers to find rows with errors. The only information missing to show in the friendly message is the columns with these errors. To discriminate only the rows is not enough. To get these columns, the perfect method would be GetColumnsInError of the DataRow object. But concurrency exceptions do not set errors in DataColumns objects. In other words, the GetColumnsInError method do not return any columns. I assume that this behavior is a bug. Is there another way to reach this goal? Thank´s, Otávio F.     - Compact Framework firewall issue MS Support: At one customer site, we can connect to the web from Pocket IE, but we can't from our .NET CF app. If we set the Passthrough setting in ActiveSync to "Work" and try to connect to the web from Pocket IE, we get a popup window that gives the firewall name and asks for a user, password, and domain. We enter an employee's username and password and the domain name and the web site comes up ok. In our .NET CF app, I specify the SAME user, pw, and domain as Credentials on the WebRequest and WebProxy objects, but we still get back a "407 Proxy Authentication" error.     - System.Data.OracleClient problem? I'm having a rather strange problem calling the .NET Framework to access an Oracle database. I have a function that returns a dataset of all the tables on a specified oracle server. When I call this function I get an oracle error that says 'ORA-06413: Connection not open.' Here's the strange part. Other people can load my code in the IDE and it will run fine. I can call this exact same function with the exact same parameters from another project and it works fine (we both have the same reference to the same DLL file). I can also access the Oracle server via SQLPlus with no problems. It is only in the one app that I get the error. The error is being thrown by the System.Data.OracleClient.DBObjectPool.GetObject(Object owningObject, Boolean& isInTransaction) I think there's something set up wrong in the IDE for that project to cause this problem, but I can't figure out what it could be.     - MailAttachment locked...how to unlock I've ran into the issue that while sending a MailMessage with MailAttachments, an exception is thrown because of network issues. It appears that the attachment file is still locked (documentation does state that during the email xfer, the file is locked).     - namespaces - what's the point? Hi Can somebody please tell me what namespaces are actually for? I notice that when I start a new project in C#, it puts everything in a namespace of the same name as the project. I found them a bit annoying as when I save a class's .cs file to my 'generic code' folder, and then put it in another project, I have to manually go and change the namespace name. This I find a bit of a PITA. I used VB.NET for a bit and found it didn't have namespaces by default, but that it can have them if it wants. I also found that although C# has them by default, I don't actually have to have them in order to compile. So - they're not necessary, and seeing as I don't like them, why can't I turn them off?     - Can you reverse the sort order of a sortedlist class Hi, I am using the sortedlist class but would like the order of the class to be reversed. I know i could loop through the sortedlist class backwards using the index but i would rather have a method on my class which has a private instance of the sortedlist class and be able to specify the order that the sortedlist class is sorted by. Is this possibe? I know an alternative is to use the arraylist class where i can reverse order but this doesn't allow me to access the objects in the arraylist by a key which the sortedlist class does?     - activating an application I'm developing a stand-alone windows application i VB.NET. The app starts another application via the Process class in background (no window yet) and then establishes a socket communication between them. The main-app has a button which shall activate the 2nd app to display it's main frame. Arguments are sent via the socket and the 2nd app responds and shows the desired frame. And now to my problem: everything works fine except that the 2nd app is not becoming the active application, it is displayed under the main app's window. How can I force the 2nd app to become the active application? Two desired solution alternatives could be: 1) the main app forces the 2nd app to be the active application (via the Process instance) 2) the 2nd app forces himself to be the active application I hope that someone has hints to this! I had loaded and installed Browser Controls Official Release v1.1b . I had finished migrating of java code and dll was created successful . I had loaded and installed tagconvert.exe. I had convertred start page with definition of <APPLET> by this tool.     - Process.GetProcessesByName FileLength Hello, Is it true and a nown issue that I can't retrieve any process from which the filelengt of the executable exceeds 14 characters. In my case for example, I wanted to retreive the running process of a windows service with the name "SomeNameOfTheService.exe" and the Process.GetProcessesByName("SomeNameOfTheService") does return a process. When I try to retreive the processes WorkingSet for example, I get an exception. If I uninstall the service, rename the executable to "MyService.exe" for example, reinstall it and try exactly the same code (Process.GetProcessesByName("MyService") I am able to retreive the WorkingSet of the process. I've tried your code and yes, it doesn't compile (I guess I should have tried to run the code before posting!!). I agree with what JD says -- the compiler probably needs this information to hook up the right constructor, *but* in my opinion the accessibility of the constructor should have been checked first by the compiler. There's no point checking if a constructor is a good match if it can't be used anyway. Sure enough, even after adding a reference to DataManager, the following code doesn't compile either, namespace Foo.UserInterface { public class GUI { public void AddItem() { Foo.DataManager.TransactionHandler t = null; CategoryItem category = new CategoryItem(t); } } } with the message: 'Foo.Kernel.CategoryItem.CategoryItem Foo.DataManager.TransactionHandler)' is inaccessible due to its protection level So, the bug is not with the compilers interpretation of the internal keyword, but with the initial check for choosing the right constructor.     - Assembly Versioning Query. A query on dotnet ******************** Im using VB.net to create an assembly(dll). It will be used as a Global shared assembly. Is there any way of knowing that ,are the previous versions of the assembly compatible with the latest version. All my client applications will be using the latest version of the GAC(global assembly cache). And i wont be recompiling my applications which were compiled with previous versions. Eg:- I hava an assembly and i compile X and Y application with it. After that i modify the assembly for application Z and compile Z client app with the new modified assembnly. Now , for X and Y I wont recompile ,I'll only use "RedirectBinding" to make sure that X and Y access the latest assmbly. Is there any way of knowing that this will work fine (im lokking for something like binary compatibility in vb6). Coz what if in the latest version i have removed a function used by X. Can there be a way of knowing this while compiling the assembly(or registerinng in GAC),instead of getting an error in X at runtime. Martin, >From an initial look at your post, I can think of one reason why this might be happening: You have included the Foo.Kernel project to your solution. You then added a project reference to Foo.Kernel from Foo.WebFiles. When you compile in this scenario, it will fail because Foo.Kernel still needs to reference Foo.DataManager to compile. The error is caused because Foo.Kernel is unable to compile, not because Foo.WebFiles is missing the reference. If this is the case, you must add the project Foo.DataManager to your solution and then add a project reference from Foo.Kernel to Foo.DataManager. Please remember that this way, Foo.WebFiles still has no reference to Foo.DataManager. If you want to completely avoid making even this sort of reference (I can't see why, though), then the solution would be to compile Foo.Kernel separately (from another solution), and then use a file reference in Foo.WebFiles. I wouldn't recommend this at all since file references should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. This doesn't seem to be an issue with the internal keyword.     - Internal constructor "visible" outside of assembly. Compiler bug? Hi, I have a compiling problem. Please take a look at the code below. I have an application that is built upon three tiers: one data tier (Foo.DataManager), one business tier (Foo.Kernel) and one web presentation tier (Foo.WebFiles). The data tier shall only be accessible thru the business tier so I do NOT want a reference to the data tier in the presentation tier. In the business tier I have a class with the name CategoryItem that have one public constructor, that shall be able to instantiate from the presentation tier, and one internal constructor that shall only be instantiated from within the same assembly. The internal constructor have an argument with a reference to a class, TransactionHandler, located in the data tier. And here is where the problems begin. When I add a constructor like this in the CategoryItem class and then try to compile the ActionMenu class I get the following compiling error: error CS0012: The type 'Foo.DataManager.TransactionHandler' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'Foo.WMS.DataManager'. I really do not understand why I get this error, cause as I see it, this shall not be any problem at all because the constructor with a reference to the Foo.DataManager is INTERNAL and shall not even be visible for the presentation tier. Is this a bug in the compiler or have I missed something here? And, how do I come around this problem? As I said before I realy do NOT want a reference from the presentation tier to the data tier. By the way, it doesn't matter if I set this constructor to be PROTECTED or PRIVATE, I still get the same compiling error. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.     - Treeview and Listview Hi, I'm building a "Server management console" in which the administrator can see which users (clients) are logged-in and which actions they are taking. Now my problem is the following; For the logging of different info, i use datatables (e.g. a table for "clients" one for "files open" one for "records locked" etc). When one of the clients does something ( like logging-off, signing-in, opening a file..) I alter the datatable (e.g datatable.row.delete). All these happenings get processed ok, datatables are filled/altered correctly. My problem is in the refreshing of the treeview/listview. On top of the console i have some buttons, if you press one, i fill the treeview with the data of one of the datatables, and depending on what node is selected, I fill the listview in the same manner. Ok imagine the following situation; on the left the trieview with 2 users logged in, both with 2 files open. Treeview shows "users"(parentnode) and "user1"& "user2" as two subnodes. I select user2, listview shows two lines which shows info about the files opened by user2. in the listview I select the second line. I have a timer running which checkes every second which tree-/listview is open (to know which datatables are used) and accordingly if any changes have been made to the datatables that are displayed. All works like a charm....When the management console has the focus.. and this is where my problem sets in. I want the console to refresh also when it doesn't have the focus. But i can't figure out how. 1.How do I know which nodes are selected 2.How do I "rebuild" the tree-/listview on the background (I rebuild like this, which works fine with focus, tv.beginupdate, tv.clear, tv.nodes.add....etc, tv.endupdate) Hope someone can shed me some light on this issue. I'm trying to think of a use for remoting in the workplace, but can't. I want to look cool by "running commands over the network" and using "virtual server application protocols" that would make me look the don in front of bosses and probably gain me a pay rise, even though the company wouldn't actually be able to do anything better or more than it could before.     - QFE 810814 Expect: 100-continue Hi, I am looking to skip sending "Expect:100 continue" request to a proxy while calling a webservice from my win forms client. I need this because the proxy apparently does not understand the header and returns "417 expectation failed", stalling my invocations. I found that the QFE 810814 allows for something similar. Can anyone please confirm if i am on the right track. I need to suppress the request form the webservice client's end. Does this fix also work for Framework 1.1?     - Remote Debug Failed After Install Windows XP SP2 I had a problem here, I installed the SP2 for Windows XP and I found that my VS .Net 2003 cann't do remote debugging on my remote server (Windows Server 2003) anymore. I did setup all the needed configuration for my firewall as instructed (open port TCP 135, UDP 4500 and UDP 500) but it still fail. I even try to disable my firewall completely but I still ger the message saying : Can not start debugging, The debugger component on the server unable to connect to local machine. Currently, I created a setup that deploys the .NET Framework 1.1 to the target machine if the user does not already have it. I'm running the .NET Framework 1.1 install (dotnetfx.exe) in silent mode. Why aren't there any events for the TcpClient and/or TcpListener.

Should I create them self? How? I tried to do this, but it seems strange to
me that this is teh correct way?

Any ideas? It would appreciate a lot!
