    - Event get out of hand when converting to VS2003!? Hi, We have a windows application developed in c# with VS2002. We had some rutines that build a dynamic popup menu. The functionality worked fine and the events got triggered as they should. But, when we converted the project to VS2003 the events started triggering 1-6 times, causing some of our dialogs to pop up to many times. Has anyone had a simular problem? Is this a bug?     - ASP-DotNet Problem I have to design a web application in ASP DotNet Environment. A corporate user logins and the privileged-based menu/side bar are created. While clicking on menu he will be allowed to perform business related operations on the same single page (for multiple objects). In my last designs for these types of applications, I used to handle these operations through XMLHttp calling while staying at the same page. Each object/Link call to server brought the data which then is transformed for operations. The corresponding operations results are shown to user there & then. All I had to do was to handle each piece of code my way. It works for my live systems since years. Now what i want to do is same plus some more of it. I don't want to do all that coding again (if i, what's Dot Net for). In Dot Net if I had to place a single server-side control (with ispostback property=true) my whole page posts & redraws each time, with all corresponding set of client side code (even if I handle page.ispostback)etc. I thought to use frames, but it seems to be discouraging effort, as lot of my generalize libraries will travel b/w each time for each object/link. I need a master detail form like structure on single page for multiple objects. Can anybody provide me some sort of solution/idea or should I withdraw myself from Dot Net facilities & use the approach as previously done. I will appreciate the help in this regard.     - assembly cannont be uninstalled... I have assemblies in my GAC that are my own assemblies. They have a Ref counter of 1 and i cannot remove them. And the MSI does not exist on this machine to uninstall the applicatoin that put the ref counter on these assemblies. What i would like to know is how to manually de ref and get these assemblies out of my gac .. please :) i have searched the registry for anything close to the name of my app and nothing.     - Urgent!!! Please help Hi, I'm trying to write a log file (in XML) using XMLTextWriter. Each time my application runs, certain events are logged and the same log file should be updated. The very time, the log gets saved correctly, bu the next time I try to write to the same XML file using XMLTextReader, the file gets corrupted - The first time, I write the log, I get the following XML in the file <logs> <log> <item>This is the log</item> </log> </logs> The next time I run the application, the log file gets corrupted with a question mark. <logs> <log> <item>This is the log</item> </log> </logs>?<log> <item>This is another log</item> And the code throws a run time error saying "There was no start tag to open".     - Multithreading & Controls help - 2 part question I'm not exactly sure how to acomplish this task in a thread-safe manner, so I was hoping someone could shed the light. Here is the situation: PART ONE: 1) On my main form I have a "Logger" control that has a public method: public void LogMessage (string msg); 2) When my program is running, I launch a new thread to run another program.     - win2k broke, xp fine .net 1.1. i have a fairly large vb.net application. there is an object called objPrototypes that contains all the api calls we use. the api calls are to a custom C++ .dll library. the app works great in xb. in 2k it will work a while and after issuing several api calls, it will randomly result in the objPrototypes object being set to null! what is going on here? the 2k and xp boxes both are fully up to date in terms of windowsupdate.microsoft.com. the only thing that is consistent is that when it goes belly up, it's because the objPrototypes object goes null. The code certainly isn't doing this. at startup objPrototypes is set and left as such. has anybody seen this? the api calls are failry simple. either passing down a structure or a string. there is no particular command that causes it. it could be one of any commands it seems. the api calls are all different. some api calls have no parameters, some have just an integer or two, some have an integer and structure, some have 2 strings, etc. there is never more than say 3 parameters i think. most of the time it is 2 parameters. there are no 3rd party controls. actually, all that i'm using in terms of controls would be main menu, context menu, list view, tree view, toolbar. i think that's about it. any ideas??? jeff Tag: System.Messaging vs COM+ Queued Components Tag: 52341

    - ASP.NET on a DomainController I'm developing an ASP.NET app that uses ActiveDirectory. To demo this, I've built a notebook as a Win2000 DomainController with IIS. To my pleasant surprise this actually worked - at least until I patched it the other night. Now I get nothing but security violations (access denied), with no usefull indication as to what security I've violated. I'm using 'impersonate' mode and I'm logged in as the admin of the only Domain. I can get this working with .NET 1.0 and an un-patched DC, but I need to upgrade it to .NET 1.1 which requires patches that will introduce the security problems. I've tried modifying the Machine.Config to use 'SYSTEM' rather than 'machine' as the processed, this didn't do it. I'm trying to find a built-in function in the framework for converting binary formatted strings into either bytes or HEX-values; something that works in a similar fashion as BitConverter.ToString(byte[]), which converts a byte-array into HEX, or Convert.ToString(byte, 2), which converts a byte into a binary string - just the other way arround. Am I just looking in the wrong direction, or is there really no built-in function/formatter for this task?     - TraceListener question Hi, I have written a custom TraceListener (derived from TextWriterTraceListener) which writes trace messages as XML. Everything works fine except one thing. When my application starts, I am adding the following XML node to indicate that the start of the trace <traceInformation dateTime="07/21/2003"> Now, all the trace messages will be added as child nodes to this start node. When the application exits, I want to close the "traceInformation" node. But, I do not want to implement this by overriding the Close method in my custom TraceListener class and then call Trace.Close from my application. Is there any other way to do this? I am trying to use the following code snipet that requires the msthml.dll: IHTMLDocument2 hDoc2 = (IHTMLDocument2)WBrowser.Document; string sHTML = "<HTML><BODY bgcolor=red>This is a test.</BODY></HTML>"; object[] psa = {sHTML}; hDoc2.write(psa); This will write html data into the IHTMLDocument2 object. On a system that has .Net Dev Studio, everything works great. But when I try to run it on a system that does not, the application locks up becuase of this code. On systems with Dev Studio the mshtml.dll has a version of 6.0.2800.1170, and the systems without dev studio have 6.0.2800.1106. How do I update the systems to have the newer 6.0.2800.1170 version of this .dll? All systems have the same framework version... so what do I do? I even tried the regsvr32.dll but that didnt work.     - restoring a reference Hi, I had a bit of a crash on my machine but got most things restored and repaired. However, I seem to have lost the ability to run gacutil / ildasm etc. other directories than the C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\FrameworkSDK\Bin where they are actually stored.     - Odd behavior of inheritance and method overriding? I'm seeing a weird problem with inheritance/overriding a method/implicit casting, and someone suggested that I ask about it here. I have a class that is inheriting from another class. The base class has a Write(byte x) method and a Write(ushort x) method. The child class only overrides Write(ushort x). If I call ChildClass.Write(byte), the child's ushort method gets called instead of the base class's Write(byte x) method. Is that normal? I'm using mono/mcs, but someone tested it in Windows for me and got the same results.     - About .Net Compact Framework Hi, we are developing a client-server application which sits on a PocketPC platform with a server feeding it responses. The a functionality of the application playbacks video clip streaming in MPEG format and MP3. The application also renders HTML information. All these we prototype using Java, in specifically Java Media Framework (on TabletPC). However the support for JMF in PocketPC is waning and we are considering moving the entire development over to .Net Compact Framework.     - HELP!!!!!! I am sorry if this question has already been answered but i have not been able to find it so here goes. I have tried to install .net framework 1.1 on my windows 98 SE system and during the installation it advises me it needs to update the microsoft installer components before setup can continue when i tell it ok to continue i get an error message that says it cannot access windows instsller components and cannot continue. I have checked and i have version 2.0 installer in my windows\system directory but still cannot get .net to install any guidance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.     - Licensing Hi ! I want to create a licensed component. I use the LicFileLicenseProvider class as parameter of the LicenseProvider attribute.     - How static is static? - please help Hi, I have had a strange situation: In a back-end DLL for a website I have a function which loads a cart-object from a HttpContext.Session into a static variable in a class and serves this object to the visiting user. While this works fine, as long as the DLL itself resides in the /bin directory of the web-application, the static object seems to be globally available to ALL USERS, if I move the DLL to the GAL! In fact, the whole application started to do wicked things as long as the DLL(s) were in the GAL. If I moved them to the web-app's /bin directory and removed the entries in the GAL, the app worked fine. As I wish to fix the cause, not the symptoms, I apprechiate anyone shedding any light into this problem.
