    - Dynamically Create Type By Version Our software is interface based meaning that we don't add any references to implemntation assemblies. All loading is done via Activator.CreateInstance(assembly, class name). Our components that we are instancing are loaded in the GAC. In preparing for a version change in our software we are wondering how we would be able to instance a particular version of a component. Say I know the class name and assembly, yet there is a version 1.0.0.0 and a version 2.0.0.0 and I specifically want to load version 1.0.0.0. What can I do to ensure this is the version that I get? There doesn't seem to be an overload for loading a particular version of a component via Activator. I thought I would create the type as well, but I can't fiure out how to specify version.     - ASP.NET DB Access I hope this is the correct forum for this because I'm at wits end. I have a Win 2003 server, SQL server 2000 and the .Net framework sdk installed. The ASP.NET VB Quickstart tutorials have web form examples some of which connect to the database. They do not work and I get 'server does not exist or access denied' when I try to run any of the database examples.     - Need advice how to approach project? Hello All! I'm getting ready to build an application in vb.net. It's a game the will will have a countdown clock, keep track of points and user inputs. One game that will be played by the same people. It will be hooked up on a private network, possible up to 100 workstations, connected to a SQL server for the database, and another server that will control when to start games, stop games, start and stop the timeclock, etc. So my question is, what would be the best way to build this. Should I use asp.net and treat as a web application, or would I use web services? This won't be on the web, and I don't want to use IE as my client application, unless I can make the browser look like just a window with my game in it. No title bar or anything like that.     - Killing background thread when in blocking call Hi: I have a class that needs to request/receive updates from a server over a network connection for the entire life of the application. I use a background worker thread to do this, and then send updates to the main thread using events. This works great. My issue is that when a user wants to terminate the application, the thread could be (will be) in any number of blocking calls, for example BinaryReader.ReadByte. Almost all of what my background thread does is pull data from the server via a TcpClient > Stream > BinaryReader. I've done lots of reading on the topic, and everyone seems to say that I sould use a ManualResetEvent and have the thread check periodically that this event hasn't been Set. I do this now. The problem is that even though I check to see if the event has been set, the next line of code will start a blocking read. I don't want to use Thread.Abort, and I don't want to switch to non-blocking calls on the socket. What am I missing? Thanks. Dave P.S. Why not use a bool instead of a ManualResetEvent?     - Printing a Document I'm using the PrintPageEventArgs with the Graphics namespace, and when the code gets to the point where it sets HasMorePages to true, it loops in a while loop to being the new page. The problem is that all of the next page still prints on the first page. I can't figure out why this is.     - Some img tages being stripped out in ASP.NET 2.0 I've just started using this new version. I have created a simple site which make use of the MasterPage concept as well. It works fine on the development machine. On the host site some of the img tags have been stripped out. There are some generated by an AdRotator component and some normal html img tags which when viewing the source of the page in the browser are completely missing.     - problem with unhandled exception in Windows application Hi Everybody, I'e got a problem with one of my Windows applications: Some times (not very often) the application displays a message box that says "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled". The only information provided is the process&thread ID. It does NOT provide a stack dump or any other information about what or where this error is (the log in the system event viewer does not give any more information) The application catchs unhandled exceptions and writes the exception info to a log file (I tried, it Works!) but in this case no log file was created. the only options the message box gives me are to stop the application or to run a debugger. Now, this application runs on a client's producation computer so I don't have any debugger on it. How can I find out what caused this exception?     - Unrelated TCP sockets affected! Hi All, I realize this is a very peculiar situation, and I was sceptical about this "finding" also, but after days of debugging, this is what things have narrowed down to: I have an app (originaly a Web app, but I am able to replicate the issue in a WinForm app also) that calls on a 3rd party DLL through PInvoke. The library connects to a remote 3rd party server thorough TCP/IP to perform some EDI data processing. We started noticing that every one of these TCP connections remain in the "CLOSE_WAIT" state until the process is shut down. At first, we assumed it's a problem with the 3rd party ilibrary. However, after further investigation, we found that this only happens if we connect to a SQL server first! To clarify, if we use the 3rd party library without ever connecting to the SQL server, then the TCP connections close properly in a timely manner. However, once a SqlConnection.Open() call is made (and loaded modules in VS show System.EnterpriseServices.dll, and System.EnterpriseServices.thunk.dll loaded), any subsequent call to the 3rd party DLL starts to hang in the CLOSE-WAIT state indefinitely. I tried to see if turning off the connection pooling would affect this, but it did not. Please note that I do not have to run any commands agains the database for this to occur. As long as I do SqlConnection.Open(), this problem starts! I am beyong confused! I know this 3rd party DLL is written in VC++. I have a unsubstiated theory that perhaps perhaps the SQL DLL and this 3rd party DLL have the same base address, and the 3rd party DLL gets rebased by he OS loader, and thus cannot be unloaded, causing the bug to appear.     - Assemblies and different framework versions Hi all, Please bear with me, but I was wondering about what happens when older assemblies call code from a newer assembly when different framework versions become involved... Take, for example, a case where an application assembly (ASM1) and some 3rd-party assembly library (ASM2) are two private assemblies (not in the GAC): both at version 1.0, both compiled against .NET 1.0, and where ASM1 calls into ASM2 for some piece of functionality. If at some point, the company providing ASM2 upgrades their functionality and redistributes a 2.0 version built against .NET 1.1, I'm wondering what would happen if ASM2 were replaced with the new version on the machine and a binding redirect were given to ASM1 in order to allow it to call into the newer version of ASM2. Assuming both .NET 1.0 and .NET 1.1 are on the machine and remembering that these are private assemblies which are not in the GAC: 1: Would ASM2 be loaded within the .NET 1.1 CLR or would it load against .NET 1.0 (meaning it would break if it happened to call into 1.1 functionality)? 2: If it IS a problem, how do you get around that issue? Are you required to upgrade ASM1 to .NET 1.1? 3: Do the answers to 1 and\or 2 change if ASM1 is actually a library (rather than an application) being called by a .NET 1.0 application assembly (ASM3) that you have no control over (ie. meaning you cannot influence the ".config" file for ASM3)? 4: Do the answers change if only one of the two frameworks is on the machine (ie. 1.0 only or 1.1 only)?     - Windows Service freeze I have a C# Windows Service (using legacy COM objects, serial port and remoting) which will occassionally lock up. I'm able to detect the lockup by having a System.Timers.Timer watching the main loop. When the service locks up all I want to do is to terminate it programmatically so it can be restarted by another watchdog service. No matter what I try it will not terminate. I was trying to use ServiceProcess.ServiceController.Stop() and Process.Kill() and nothing happens. It still shows on a list of processes. Actually I cannot even kill it manually by any method and I have to reboot the computer to restart it. It seems like OS somehow lost track of this sevice. It locks up randomly sometimes every few hours and sometimes every 6 weeks. It only happens on one particular computer and I can't simulate it anywhere else. No exception is ever generated. Upon further examincation, it is found that these files are all zero-byte empty files. Someone suggested that it might be caused by aggressive AV programs, so i disabled AV on the box and retried, but still got the same errors. Any clue on what might be the problem? The biggest clue to what's wrong is that I'm able to run the program in Prod from my own machine(via mapped drive & correct permissions), but when I attempt to run the program from a remote login on the Prod server I get the above error. I've tried running the program with my user credentials on the Prod server but still the same result, so this rules out user permissions. My last guess is that the server is not configured correctly or that my machine has something installed (besides .Net1.1 framework) that allows me to run the app. This error is a show stopper and I'm running out of ideas and time quickly.     - Crystal Reports Keycode dll not found error on some machines Hi, a small application that includes some CR reports is installed on several notebooks of my customer. It works fine on most machines. But on a few notebooks the users reported the well known damn error "Keycode DLL not found or invalid keycode" after trying to open a report. I included the Crystal_Regwiz2003.msm merge module in the setup project and set my license key (which works, since the reports can be opened on most machines). I just don't understand what's going on since all users have the same version of my application installed. Also, on two machines which are identical (same notebook, same OS image) the error only occurs on one, but not on the other. Any suggestions? I need to set the default proxyAddress in AD.
I saw that the default property is Upper:

smtp:test@test.com
SMTP:test2@test2.com ( default property bold )

I can remove and add a proxyaddress by code, but I can't change the value of
a property.
Can someone help me and say me how set the default proxyaddress?

Well, show us what you have! What have you tried, and where exactly
does it fail, and what exactly is the error message you're getting?

What attribute are you trying to set exactly? Is it the
"proxyAddresses" one? This is a multi-valued attribute - you might
need to take into account already existing values.....
