The CApplicationBarHost should create the search bar control and manage it via Managed C++ (resize, repositioning, close, show), so this class will be ATL based host for WinForm control. Here is my problem! In order to create Search bar control I have to say that this control will be child of the host window. I don't know how to set Inform parent via managed C++ code :((( Could you help me here? This should be a common scenario for some application that still have ATL based UI (in my case this is Outlook exchange extension) and would like to embed some modern .NET WinForms controls.     - Parallel Port All, I'm aware that there are no built-in methods in the Framework for accessing the parallel port. So i'm just looking for the best method (which i'm assuming will involve using Interop).     - Tell me this isnt a bug. (Databinding inside of a datagrid) I created a user control that, had a datalist with checkboxes inside of the item template. These checkboxes would not retain state. For instance, if I set them to checked inside of the load event of the UserControl, they would appear false(the default value) when inside the top level datagrid. Here's the walkthrough (tried to make it as quick as possible): Start a new ASP.NET Web Application project. 1. Create a usercontrol. (UserControl1) 2. Add a datalist to it. (DataList1) 3. To the item template, add a checkbox (Checkbox1) 4. Add this code to the Page_Load event of ** UserControl1 ** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'Put user code to initialize the page here datalist1.DataSource = New String() {"Item1", "Item2", "Item3"} datalist1.DataBind() For Each I As DataListItem In datalist1.Items Dim chk As CheckBox = I.FindControl("CheckBox1") chk.Checked = True Next ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- (The text "CheckBox1" should be the name of the checkbox you added in step 3, if you left it at the default, then you dont have to change anything) 5.     - Concerns on Drawing2D.Matrix.Rotate and Math function mixing... Hi, I'm implementing some algebra algorithms in C#, so I think to use the Matrix class in some operations. But I was struck by two factors: -The Matrix.Rotate() functions (and in general, all angle operations in System.Drawing.Drawing2D) are in decimal gradus, but basic angle functions in Math package are un radians. It is a problem, I should convert my angles all the time betweem these two systems if I want to use the Matrix class functions with my own functions. -The angle used by Matrix.Rotate() increases clockwise. But as long as I understand in "normal" mathematics the angle increases the reverse. The Math functions like Math.Sin understand angles increasing non-clockwise. So if I want to use Matrix.Rotate I should also convert my angles to this "reversed" coordinate system. These are my concerns. Am I right? System.Drawing.Drawing2D and Math packages doesn't mix?     - Unhandled Exception On running an app from the IDE I get the following dialog appear just after the form appears on screen: ******* An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in unknown module. I have tried stepping through my code without being able to track this down. What do I need to do to to try and pin down where this is happening? In the days of vb6 you could set binary compatibility and reference the dll you want to be compatible with and good old vb6 would tell you at compile time if you have broken compatibility. Till yesterday there was no problem with the application. Is was working fine. In our application we have one Lock and Unlock Button. When you click on Lock button, the page will turn into ReadOnly mode. When you click on Unlock the page will turn into Edit Mode. Now When I press the Lock or Unlock Button after 2 to 3 minutes in the Browser iam getting the below error message. -------- Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. I want to send all the responses of the webservice encoded in "iso-8859-1", so that german special characters will be displayed correctly.     - Dynamically creating resource-only dlls Hello, I have created an application which will use resources that will be loaded at runtime. I'd like to package these resources in resource-only dlls that will be loaded dynamically by my application. I'm not doing this for localization purposes, but rather as a means to offer dynamic content in a neatly packaged manner. I may need to add custom generated code to these dlls soon, so I'd like to have the resources contained in a resource file embedded in a dll. I already have written a small app that will combine the required resources into a .Resource File. Does anyone have any sample code where they are dynamically creating an assembly and embedding a resource file in it? It doesn't matter to me how it's done - I've played with Reflection.Emit and the commandline version of the C# compiler. Emit doesn't seem like it has the capability to create an assembly that can be written out to disk and used later. I think the commandline might work, but I'm unsure how to proceed.     - Strong Name assembly question OK this is the setup I have in which I am experiencing a problem: 1. I have written an application with about 6-7 satellite assemblies (dependents). These are all mine and get compiled by me. They all -including the application- have been signed with a strong name key. 2. The application also makes use of 1 third party binary-only DLL/assembly. As said there is no source code available for this one, and it is NOT a strong name assembly. Now here is the catch-22, for my application to be strong named (because it will have a LicenseProvider), all the dependent assemblies also need to be strong named. This is no issue for my assemblies, the problem arises with that third party assembly that is not strong named! So, what happens now? I cannot strong name my application because of one single third party assembly? I really wouldn't like to sign the 3rd party assembly with my key. I can also *not* get rid of that 3rd party assembly.     - convert string to guid How can I convert a system.string value to a system.guid? I know the string is a valid guid. All I'm trying to do is to pass the value into a stored procedure that accepts a guid. The wrapper function I have for this would need to convert the string parameter it receives and convert it to a guid for executing the stored procedure.     - Multiple assembly versions referencing a single section definition in I have written an assembly that defines a plethora of SectionHandlers in a configuration file (machine, web, app). This assembly is strongly named and, because it will be used across multiple applications on a given machine, is installed into the GAC via an MSI. To keep things simple for developers of applications that consume this assembly, I have written an Installer class that automatically puts the necessary section definition into the machine.config file (BTW, System.Runtime.InteropServices.RuntimeEnvironment.SystemConfigurationFile() was quite a find for me) by using reflection to obtain the current version, culture, etc, of the assembly being installed. The developer then only needs to create the sections in their app or web.config. Machine.config will know how to handle them. So far, so good. Everything works and is pretty slick. The problem comes when I need to release a new version of the assembly. Assume that Application A is using sections defined by the SectionHandlers in version 1 of the assembly. Application B comes along and requires expanded section definitions. So we add them and release version 2 of the assembly. Application A and Application B both need to reside on the same server - with a shared machine.config of course - and each requires a different version of the assembly to manage their sections appropriately. How do I tell machine.config to use two different versions of an assembly to handle the same section? Can I? I don't think I can. So, I have a couple of options: With each new version of the assembly, update the existing machine.config with the new version #. This means ensuring 100% backwards compatibility, which I guess isn't such a bad thing considering it's in the GAC. Instruct developers how to define the sections in their app or web.config file so that each application simply uses the version that's necessary for that application. This is kind of annoying. It was one of the design goals I was trying to avoid by putting this stuff in machine.config in the first place. Define new sections for each version of the assembly. IE, "sectionname_v2.0" vs. just "sectionname". This is just as annoying as, and not much different from option 1 - the developer has to be aware of the version of the assembly they're using to the point where it affects their code. Ideally, the developer simply uses the tags he needs, not version specific tags. Somehow modify the web.config or app.config automatically (the same way I'm doing the machine.config file now) when the assembly is referenced during design time. Is this possible? Something tells me no because I think that referencing happens at link time, doesn't it? Is this possible? Any other good ideas out there for solving this issue? When sending mail using the SMTPMail class in System.Web.Mail, how does the mail server know you are allowed to send mail through it? For example, I used smtp.comcast.net as the Smpt Server (because that is my internet provider), and it sent the mail fine. How does this work since you don't supply a username or password? The problem I am having is that the thread does not seem to die after it is done doing its work.     - Problem with Paged Pool Hi there. I'm writing a Windows Service in C#. The service traces a bunch of computers on a LAN and reads some information about those computers and stores them in SQL database. After a while ( depends on the number of computers on the lan ) the Paged Pool on the server increases until the server becomes unavailable and has to be force restarted. IÂ´m using WMI and every instance I make is disposed in a finally block. I also run GC.Collect() at the end of each trace. I am trying to develop an MMC SnapIn using C#. Through searches on the web,
I have found the MMCLibrary from ironringsoftware.com. I downloaded this and
have tried to run the test project, but have been unable to because of
errors that occur in VS 2003. I am running it on Win2000, which it should
run on, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any other ideas as to how I can develop a snapin using C# will be
appreciated.
