    - Updating a collection using a lambda Hi - I have a situation where I'd like to use a lambda, but I'm not sure how. Basically, I have a collection of objects and I want to set a property on each object that meets a condition. Right now, I have this: IEnumerable<VariableCode> codes = variable.VariableCodeList.Where(c => c.Type == "MyCondition"); foreach (VariableCode code in codes) { code.IsShown = true; }//foreach I'm thinking that I can replace the foreach bit with a single lambda expression.     - web deployed assembly I have a windows forms assembly that needs to be deployed via a webpage. This bit of code must provide a fully automated printing solution; in that it must accept a parameter containing a graphic image to print, and print it without any interaction. The issue I'm having is that it throws a security exception [Request for permission of type: System.drawing.printing.printingpermission ... failed]. This bit of code seems to work just fine if I use the print dialogbox and select the appropriate printer, and of course fails if I don't use the dialogbox. This seems to be a security issue, but I'm not sure where to look, or how to fix it.     - AccessViolationException with AutoCompleteStringCollection Update Hi, i have form with a text box that uses a AutoCompleteStringCollection for auto completion. Now if a new value (one not yet contained in the collection) is entered, the new value should be added to the collection.     - is there difference between XP Pro and Server2003? Hi, my local machine is XP Pro. when I built the WCF hosted in IIS, it works fine. (create virtual directory on IIS and open that website and coding.. that's it.) but When I try to built the WCF hosted in IIS in server machine, it causes error. (create virtual directory on IIS and open that website and coding. same with xp pro) my server machine is Server2003. After I publish this on the different location in server2003 IIS, it works fine. Do I have to publish the WCFservice? Is there difference between XP Pro and Server2003? When I publish this, I have to be very careful since they just clean that folder automatically.     - Does HttpListener have the same quirk as HttpWebRequest Hi... We've implemented a server process using HttpListener to get and process certain requests, but we've been noticing some odd serialization that reminded me of a quirk in the client code. We recently discovered an odd behavior of HttpWebRequest in the client code where mixing sync and async methods resulted in everything quietly being sync. Specifically, we were using GetRequestStream() to send the data up synchronously then calling BeginGetResponse() to wait for the answer async. Well, it turned out that if you call a sync method first the async calls magically turn into synchronized ones - a rather undocumented behavior. Now we're seeing some similar quirks on the server side with HttpListener. We use BeginGetContext() to listen for a request. Our callback calls EndGetContext() to get the details and then immediately calls BeginGetContext() again to wait for another request. But then we read the request synchronously, post the work in a queue with the associated response object and move on. What we're seeing is that if the client sends several requests in a row, it blasts right through them but the server doesn't acknowledge even reading the 2nd request until after the response to the first request is written to and closed.     - Any CPU assemblies, Framework64, and Process Explorer Hi... We're building our assemblies Any CPU and just now trying to throw them up on an x64 box. I was using Process Explorer to look at something else, and I noticed something peculiar. All of our assemblies were in the Framework64 temporary assembly cache for the running process but Process Explorer had flagged them all as being 32-bit code. Is this a quirk of Process Explorer not having a mind-meld of the .Net framework and understanding how the code is being executed, or is Process Explorer right and it's running in 32-bit mode, despite where it's running from?     - New Information on Error 1603 when installing .NET Framework all I was having major issues with installing Visual Studio 2008 on my computer. In particular the .NET 3.5 component required to run Visual Studio 2008. I tried everything that was online from editing registry settings, setting access permissions and all. I was able to install up to .NET FW 2.0 but past that I kept getting error 1603. This error is usually an access error telling the user that the target drive, folder or file is unaccessible. I found when doing a verbose log with the install the Microsoft IIS installation on my computer was corrupted and I needed to reinstall IIS on my computer. The best fix for this issue is 1st: Uninstall the IIS server off of the computer. 2nd: Run the .NET FW 3.5 Installer 3rd: Re-Install IIS from the Windows CD-ROM. 4th: I was then able to install Visual Studio 2008 on my computer after fixing this.     - 1.1 install and 3.0 uninstall My computer runs Windows XP. I have a perpetual automatic update message for an Express Install. It is trying to install .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. It fails, says simply it was unable to install, and then goes back into the windows update queue. I have read on other posts to try and uninstall from 3.0 downward and then reinstall from 1.1 forward. I am also unable to uninstall 3.0. It says that a newer version is on my computer and I need to remove from Add/Remove programs. The problem is I was trying to uninstall FROM Add/Remove programs. I have also tried the 3.0 uninstaller on the Microsoft website but it says "We did not find specified products to be installed." Excuse me - didn't the download say "Uninstall?" HELP!!!     - Socket connection was forcibly closed by the remote host Hy everyone, I have a little problem doing socket-programming. I've made a console-application with a socket listening on a sertain port to accept connections from other clients. The only thing my application has to do is accept the incomming clients, read the data and send it to a database. Everything works fine, but now and then my socket server seems to crash/hang. When I check my error-handling I see that my application is throwing this exception : "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" Restarting my application solves this problem. I don't know the reason, nor how to solve it. I've already surfed the internet al lot, but dit not come to an satisfying answer. Someone who can help me or who has experienced the same problem ?     - Batch of Stored Procedures In our .Net 2.0 web service we need to insert/update data records into SQL Server 2005 that have been uploaded to us in XML documents. There could be anywhere from one to literally thousands of records in each uploaded transaction, and there are several dozen destination tables. Since performance is critical for this particular app, we were thinking of combining the stored procedure calls into configurable- sized batches using CommandType.Text and multiple concatenated EXEC statements, so we minimize database roundtrips as opposed to calling each SP individually in its own SqlCommand. Is this a good approach? One concern is that SQL Server would have to compile each and every batch since they will all be different, and the overhead involved in this could become significant. Is this really something to worry about, or not? Wouldn't a few batch compiles per transaction still be better than potentially thousands of roundtrips? Are there other problems with this approach? Of course we are planning to stress test to see how it actually responds, but I just wanted to get some opinions first in case someone has done this before and can give advice/recommendations/suggestions before we get too far into it. I have created a shared assembly(adoio.dll) I have set the parameter to local copy = false, but when I run my installer, I still get a copy of this dll in my directory.     - y of baseline in millimeter I need a method to write a string on a graphics pretty similar to DrawString but instead of specifying the (x,y) of the upper left corner of the imaginary rectangle that surrounds the string, I would like to specify the (x, y) of the baseline of the first caracter. Also, I use graph.PageUnit = GraphicsUnit.Millimeter, so, the (x,y) should be in millimeter. I tried to use some Font and FontFamily methods but couldn't figure out how to convert design unit metric into millimeter.     - 'is not a valid virtual path' - host header help hello. i'm trying to setup a website on my local server when compiling it VS 2005 i get the error "is not a valid virtual path" from what i've read on the net, this is due to the fact that the site is using IP:Port, which is no longer supported in VS 2005. I have to use the IP:Port setup 192.168.2.102:8080 as my ISP blocks port 80 this is just a dev site, but i would like to access it externally, hence the port 8080. I've read that a few people got around this issue by using host headers. but i have yet to find an example of how. anything listed out on the internet refer to only using port 80. was hoping someone could help me with my setup of how to setup my site to user IP:8080 and point to port 80 as well via host headers so that the site can be built/compiled in VS 2005.     - Generic Dictionary Serialized with Xaml I'm having some troubles with Xaml as a serialization option. The problem lies in serializing nested Generic dictionaries: Basically, I see different XML if the first element of the dictionary's values is a primitive versus if it is another dictionary. If the first element is a primitive, I get an extra layer of XML tags (I say extra, but, they do seem to be neccessary). If the first element is not a primitive, those tags are missing and the XamlReader cannot read the output Xaml back in..     - '<name>' is ambiguous in the namespace '<namespacename>' I have two ASP.Net web forms that utilize a common Web Service. In one of them, I'm able to instantiate an object via a call similar to: "Dim objService as TaskProcessor.TaskService"; it works like a charm. I try instantiating another object in the second web page using the same Web Service and statement, but it won't let me; instead, I get a message reading "'TaskService' is ambiguous in the namespace 'TaskProcessor'". Both of these web forms have the exact same Imports statements, so that isn't the problem. They also share the same business layer object library, so that isn't the problem.     - Enterprise Library Cryptography Application Block - IHashProvider Hi. I'm using the Cryptography Application Block (in entlib 3.1) for the first time. In order to build a Hash Provider I must specify a 'Type that implements Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Security.Cryptography.IHashProvider.' When I go to specify this value it prompts me to find an assembly on my computer that implements this. What exactly is this and how can I determine which assemblies can be used in this situation to implement a Hash Provider?     - Getting CSharpCodeProvider to use .NET 3.5 I have a .NET 3.5 app (built using VS2008 RTM, no CTPs installed) that uses CSharpCodeProvider to compile some generated code that requires .NET 3.5. When I set the compiler's .NET version to 3.5 (per the MSDN example), I get a "csc.exe not found" exception thrown when I try to compile. Than I have changed form event to thread which checks for data every 100 my. Now after a while the components stops receiving characters.     - Isolated storage I am building a vb.net app that needs to interact with various COM controls that use docfiles to store their data. Not knowing much about isolated storage at this point, if I create a store and add some directories, can the COM objects create files, etc in these directories, or in other words will StgCreateStorageEx, etc work ok if passed the path of the directories created earlier?     - devenv.exe memory consumption Hi: My devenv.exe process is consuming about 600MB of my RAM memory. Mi PC only have 1GB and I think that memory consumtion is a crazy!.     - SignedCMS Verification Problem Hello All, I have run into an issue in trying to verify a detached SignedCMS digital signature on the Compact Framework. On the Full Framework, I have successfully verified my data using the following code: byte[] signature = File.ReadAllBytes(@"D:\signature.dat"); byte[] content = File.ReadAllBytes(@"D:\signedData.dat"); System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs.ContentInfo ci = new ContentInfo(content); System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs.SignedCms cms = new SignedCms(SubjectIdentifierType.IssuerAndSerialNumber, ci, true); cms.Decode(signature); cms.CheckSignature(true); This has confirmed to me that I have the correct input data. Unfortunately, the Pkcs namespace, and the Signedms class, are not available on the Compact Framework. I have written code to manually parse out the X509 Signature from the signature, as well as the message digest contained in the SignerInfo block of the signature. In short, I know I have the correct public key, as well as the encrypted data that I want to decrypt. The data was signed using RSA-SHA12048. I use the following code to declare my RSA object: X509Certificate2 cert = new X509Certificate2(certData); RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa = (RSACryptoServiceProvider)cert.PublicKey.Key; I then gather my inputs, where data is the signed message and messageDigest is the 256 byte block parsed out of the SignedCMS Object. bool check = rsa.VerifyData(data, new SHA1CryptoServiceProvider(), messageDigest); This hopeful looking call ALWAYS returns false, and I'm at a bit of a loss as to why. I decided at this point to try and decrypt the messageDigest manually, just to see what the result would be, using the following code: byte[] decryptedData = rsa.Decrypt(messageDigest, false); Which threw a CryptographicException "Bad Key." I'm completely stumped by this one, as I know that the public key in the cert is valid, and I already used it to verify the data using the .NET SignedCMS class. So there it is - does anyone know where I am going wrong? If not, does anyone know of a third party signedcms class for the compact framework? I'm at a loss here...     - Multiple Solution Template I'm trying to make a multiple solution template suit my needs. So far, it's working out a lot better and easier than expected. What I'm coming up short on is using changing the Project Name and Default Namespace for projects to be something like: Project Name: Blah.Blah.$safeitemname$.$safeprojectname$ The project file in the template structure has the above project name defined with the variables above as well, but the project, when created via the template, always defaults to the filename for the project (in my case, BLL, DAL, Schema, WebUI, or Exceptions).     - ServiceController on Vista I have an administrative program (installed by click-once) that starts/stops a service running on the same machine. The ServiceController class can check the status of the service, but as soon as it attempts to start/stop the service on Vista which has UAC enabled (it runs fine on XP and when UAC is disabled), I get this message: Cannot open <servicename> service on computer <computername>. Access is denied Presumably it's all about permissions. The application was installed as a fully trusted click-once program, and is running under a user that has administrative rights; the service is running under the LocalSystem account. When I create the WCF service hosted in IIS, Do I need to publish?

Is it all I need that just make virtual directory on ths iis, and open the
website in the vs2008, coding and saving?
