    - FileSystemWatcher-Loosing events? I am using fileSystemWatcher to monitor a directory on a file server. I am looking for zip files. When a zip file arrives the watcher event is trigged an I can unzip the file and then delete it. A very simple application but...I have a problem. When I copy say 10 zip files at once into the watched directory a problem occure. What I can se som create events are missed? Is there a max buffer limit. No error is created by fileSystemWatcher.     - function scope I have a c# application with windows form for updating and retrieving some database table records. lets call it form1. I also have another application in vb that extracts data from the web but used the same database table as input to direct its operation. the data in the table is not useable directly but need a bit of transformation as done in the form1. how can I make retrieval functions in forml to the vb application? use the same package name but in different project? I want the vb app to control the form in terms of selecting the record but only if the form1 is instantiated by the vb application. if I just use the instantiation of application method, I don't know how to make available the required functions and the called internal function without the public thank you for your time and expertise.     - DownloadFileAsync Hello, DownloadFileAsync blocks (or hangs) the application for 3 or 4 seconds if there is no internet connection available, the expected behavior should be to continue normally and raise the error in the DownloadFileCompleted event in AsyncCompletedEventArgs, however this is not the case.     - System.Net.Sockets problem I am using System.Net.Sockets to connect a client socket to a server that requires three inputs when I connect: host, port and an identification number that identifies the person connecting. None of the overloads for either the Connect or BeginConnect methods takes that many inputs (basically they take host and port only). Would it be best to create a new class that derives from the base class System.Net.Sockets and implement a new method? And if so, any tips on what my new method should look like?     - FTP vb.net firewall hi guys, i have recently implemented an ftp class in vb.net for work with one of my clients. unfortunately when i put my software live i found that the client requires the a firewall parameter to be passed into the ftp class to make it work correctly. I have been able to link to the ftp directory using ws_ftp pro - i want to replicate this functionality in my code in vb.net 2.0. unfortunately i dont have a clue how to go about this. in ws_ftp i setup a firewall with a hostname and select '(internal) USER with no logon'. then i basically just apply this setting to my site which has the usual (host/username/pwd). can anyone tell me what is happening here or point me to a resource which will help me. unfortunately i need resolution quite soon. if anyone could point me at a vb.net class library with the correct functionality & examples then this would also help Thanks CG Tag: ISAPI not working in VS 2005 Tag: 132842

    - Generics and their resulting class. Possible to obtain? Hi, We need to serialize (binary) objects containing generic collections. The thing is, when we try to get the objects back (deserialize) with a different instance of the application, we receive an exception stating the constructor of the generic class does not exist. So Is there a way to obtain the resulting classes of the generics we use so we can add them as "normal" code in our app? We can develop our own starting from non-generic collections, but then we would have to develop our own methods and maintain them. The generics are already debuged and maintained by MS so we would like to generate them with the same generator the framework generates them if possible. So if I summarize what we want : We want to take the resulting class from a given generic and "copy-paste" the code and create a "user class" that we will add to our project. Is it possible?     - Parsing a webpage Hi folks, I am retrieving a website for a site using httpWebRequest. What I want to do with the retrieved webpage is list all the hyperlinks in the page. If I do a simple regex search for <a then I get links that are commented out in code and I don't want that. I want links that are actually active. This is to do with reciprocal link check.     - create an XPS document I would like to export my document has an XPS document. I already have some printing code. The problem which I am facing is making the whole process without dialog. Through the print menu the user get a dialog where he can choose his printer of choice among available printer, which can be the XPS output if it's available. Then there is a second dialog letting him specify the output file. I would like to be able to do everything programatically so that I test if the XPS printer is there and set the output file. How do I do that? I was thinking to set PrinterName to "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" but it's obviously an internationalized english sentence and that won't work in non english country... Any tips? For instance, I have the following code: Type t = myAsm.GetType( "AssemblyToLoad.MyClass" ); Type iMyClassType = typeof(AssemblyToLoad.IMyClass); foreach( Type i in t.GetInterfaces() ) { Console.WriteLine( "Interface: {0}; Implemented: {1}, {2}", i, iMyClassType, i.Equals( iMyClassType ) ); } The type "AssemblyToLoad.MyClass" implements an interface called "AssemblyToLoad.IMyClass", but the test "i.Equals( iMyClassType )" always returns false. I know reflection won't let me do this, it wasn't designed to do anything but report on static data, but is there another way? What I'm looking for is to do soemthing similar to the following...     - Weak Dictionary / Cache Hi, I am trying to implement a weak dictionary (more like a lookup table) for caching purposes. The idea is that when you put an object in it, both the key and the value (and the key-value pair) are eligible for garbage collection. I am used to Smalltalk, and the way this is implemented in Smalltalk is to use a key-value pair with a weak reference to the value object and strong reference to the key object. Smalltalk also allows the system to notify YOU (the dictionary) when a specific 3rd. object (the value object) gets finalized. That way you can clean up any unwanted objects - or more precisely, remove the pair object, thus making the pair and key objects eligible for GC once the value object has been collected. Some assumptions about my .Net objects. * The type of value objects for the dictionary is well known. * The key and value pair 1 to 1. Each value object knows its key. * I can extend the value object class. * A value object will be stored in only one cache dictionary. I have run other .NET apps on the Vista machine. Why does this build specifically require CLR20r3 (.NET 2.0 I assume)? I removed .NET 2.0 from my XP development machine and the EXE runs fine. It has menu items, such as File, etc. Under File, there are more menu items, such as New Files, Working Files, etc. Under New Files/Working Files, there are more sub menu items, respectively. All those menu items are enabled at beginning. It requires that: If a user clicks on a sub menu of New Files, New Files menu and all its sub menu items will be disabled; If a user clicks on a sub menu of Working Files, Working Files menu and all its sub menu items will be disabled.     - Patch for DateTime serialization when serializing a datetime value and then subsequently desreializing it it gets modified if the receiving computer is in a different timezone than the sender. I know how to use the SpecifyKind to set the type to utc/local/unspecified but the problem is that we serialize a lot of complex classes that contain DateTime vars at some deep down level. Is there a patch the .net CLR or some other method available through a registry entry or something that I can set the default behaviour so that any datetime object that is created is done with a Kind of utc?     - .Net DLL crashes Win32 application when making a web request We have a win32 application which uses a .Net DLL to make a single web request to an ASP.NET website hosted on IIS6. This application works fine at our end, but at one particular client's site, win32 application crashes when making the web request without giving any information about what could be causing the crash. Furthermore, I can't reproduce this at our end even using a similar stack as theirs. I was hoping to get some help on methodology to try to determine what could be causing the application to crash in this way. This is what I have so far: * The web request is made by the .Net DLL to an ASP.NET request handler, which both receives and returns an XML-serialised DataSet * The application works as expected at our end and on other clients' sites, but not at this one particular client * The application crashes both when making the request through their firewall, and to a local web server on the same internal network * The application doesn't crash when the request is proxied through Fiddler * The only difference between the content of the request when it's a direct request or proxied through Fiddler is that Fiddler doesn't forward the HTTP 1.1 100/Continue response IIS sends to the initial request back to the client DLL - this is 'absorbed' by Fiddler The win32 application contains exception handling code to handle any exceptions thrown by the .Net DLL, so I'm curious as to why it's bombing out like that. My approach to testing this would be: * try writing a .Net wrapper for the .Net DLL to see if it might throw an exception giving more information as to what is causing the problem * try using HTTP 1.0 to see whether the 100 response is somehow causing the problem (although I'm not sure why it should, both request and response seem well-formed). The API works fine in AD/Domain environment, but we found an issue in Workgroup environment. Try looking up hierarchical url on the vbpj site (Visual Basic Programmer's
Journal), as there was an article on using an HTTP Handler for this. I am
not familiar with the Helicon DLL.
