    - GZipStream Decompress always reads 4K minimum...! I have a network stream of data I am reading, of which, a section is compressed and can be decompressed using GZipStream's decompression. This part works great, however, even if the part being decompressed is 1K, GZipStream /always/ reads 4K minimum off my primary stream. Using .NET Reflector I can see they have a 4K buffer internally and always read in chunks of 4K. Basically, I have to force GZipStream to only read what is compressed, and no more. This should be possible because I am reading fixed sized structures out of GZipStream and upon the last structure I should begin reading uncompressed data again. Do I have any options here?     - COM+ SOAP VB components fail We have numerous COM components that we typically expose through component services "Activation > uses SOAP" mechanism. This has been working great on several servers in the past (w2k3). However, the last four servers we have deployed for our clients - we are having problems... An application we deploy in component services contains about a dozen dlls. It seems that only ones NOT written in VB manage to get their proxy stub created and are subsequently exposed through web-services (via entries in the disco and config files). I have painstakingly checked everything I can think of, and on the servers where it works and the servers where it doesn't - there is no difference in the binaries or the component services settings. As I mentioned, strangely - COM+ dlls written in Delphi work on all servers.... Any ideas? Can I give you more information? Tag: Help me out Tag: 111023

Everything works fine, but if a laptop running the application hybernates while a background thread is running the application will hang.     - Hello World Web Service Hello, I recently developed the hello world web service in Visual Studio 2005. If I right-click on the Service.asmx file that is created, everything works fine in Visual Studio. After verifying this, I did a Publish Web Site for this web service. After that, I installed IIS and wanted to view hello world from another machine to my development machine. However, after publishing the web site, if I go to look at it from another box on the network, I get the following error: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later. A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://192.168.40.20/XMLService/Serivce.asmx'. Line 1, Position 2. After looking around on the net for a while, I've tried the following: \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -r \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regsvr32 aspnet_isapi.dll I tried the above for both version 1.1 and 2.0 even though I using 2.0. After that didn't seem to work, I tried re-installing/re-pairing version 1.1 and version 2.0 of the .NET framework. After that didn't work, I tried enabling Access data sources across domains in IE on the client. However, this didn't seem to work either. All I want to do is see the page that comes up in Visual Studio 2005 when I right-click on Service.asmx and select View in Browser from a remote client. Does anybody have any other ideas?     - 813349: Support for Exchange APIs with the .NET Framework Hi, According to Article 813349, "If the .NET application assemblies do not reside directly on the Exchange Server, Microsoft recommends using WebDAV." But WebDAV can't access Recipient table. So WebDAV can't retrieve Undeliverable email contents (Non Delivery Report). For technical details, please go to Enterprise --> Exchange Server --> Exchange2000.development. Search "WebDAV" for "Re: Detect Undeliverable Email using WebDAV". I was told MAPI is the only way to access Recipient table. But MAPI is NOT supported by .NET Framework per 813349. That's why we implemented WebDAV. My question is if there is a way to at least workaround the problem to retrieve Recipient table to get fields like Undeliverable email addresses, reason codes, diagnose codes, etc. I don't intend to discuss the technical details here. When I access the DLL on the localhost, using the URL http://localhost/Folder/bin/MyService.dll it works fine.     - .net application deployment problem on wince 4.1 I have developed an application "exe" using visual studio .net 2003 for wince 4.1. The application works fine on debug and release mode. The application is deployed into the compact flash card of the device. After the deployment, I can execute the application directly from the device without any problem. But, when I restart the device, it's impossible to run the application again. All the required files are still correctly located on the good folder of the compact flash card, but I can execute my application. If I deploy again the application with visual studio, the application works again easer in debug or release mode. I tried to reinstall the compact framework on the device, but the result is the same!     - How to correctly handle exceptions in other threads Hi, I'm building a device application that works on two threads (using VS 2005 and CF 2.0). I'm using threads because one of my operations is quite long (up to 30 minutes or more), and I want to display the user a progress bar and messages in a listbox. This operation is a Sql Mobile Merge replication, but I suppose handling exceptions in other theads is quite standard. I've a class that handle the replication, and below is a part of the code I use. I'd like to know how to correctly handle any exception in the second thread ? The "DoSynchronize" method must exit only when the replication has finished. I use BeginSynchronize to enable firing events. If an exception occurs while replicating, I want the exception to be thrown to the DoSynchronize calling method. What have I to do ?     - Customizing MSBuild I'm working on a big solution containing 12 projects. It takes hours (not realy, but you get the picture) to build and i'm looking for ways to cut corners and increase my "coding-not compiling time". To decrease build time, I created a SlimBuild configuration which only buildt the most necessary projects. This worked great in terms of build time, but as of now, its worthless because the loader project does not copy the dll which are not rebuild every time to the output folder of the loader project. The only dll's which are updated are the ones which are set to be build when i do my ctrl+shift+b. Sadly, it seems that the compiler does not check for newer versions of dll's other than the ones that are set to be build every time. I was wondering i there is a way to customize msbuild to manually copy all dlls in the solution to the output directory of the loader project as a post-build event? Tag: Help me out Tag: 110970

    - Clickonce Prerequisites Order Hi Peoples, I am currently setting up the deployment for our product. The problem I have is that when running the clickonce install on a windows 2000 with no server pack machine I have a problem in that I need to install service pack 3 to install the 2.0 net framework. I want to automate this process in that when the install is clicked and the installer finds that it is installing on a 2000 box it will install service pack 3 and than install the .net framework. I have created a bootstrapper package to install the service pack and have tested this and it works fine. The problem i have is that when i have the 2.0 framework and the 2000 sp 3 prerequisites both selected it will not install because the 2.0 framework is loaded first and sees that the box is running 2000 without the proper service packs and kicks the user out of the install. Is there some way that I can order the prerequisites so that it checks the computer to see if it needs the 2000 service pack, than once thats sorted it does the install of the .net framework? -- Regards, Steve. While working with Wintellect's Power Collections, I noticed that they have a unit test assembly that accesses internal classes in their power collection assembly. I thought the definition of "internal" was that you could not access an internal class from another assembly (without using reflection as a back door).     - using unmanaged dlls from managed dll wrappers. Hi, I hope someone can direct me to the correct newsgroup if this one is not correct. I have a unmanaged C++ dll that I need to use from a C# client. Rather than use dllImport directly, I created a managed C++ dll (in the same solution). In this managed C++ dll, I added a reference (under references) to the unmanaged dll (it's listed under the project tab). I also had to #include the header file for the unmanaged dll in my managed code. Then I created a C# client (.exe.) in my solution to test this idea. In the C# client I simply added a reference to the managed C++ dll. All worked great and I was happy. Now two weeks later, I would like to use this stuff from a real project. From a C# class library (which is used by my C# exe), I call into my C++ managed dll. I of course had to add a reference to the C++ managed dll. Everything compiled. However, when I run, I get the following runtime error: An unhandled exception of type 'System.IO.FileNotFoundException' occurred in CSharpLibrary.dll. Additional Information: File or assembly name ManagedConverterWrapper, or one of its dependencies, was not found ManagedConverterWrapper is the managed C++ wrapper I wrote. I tried adding a reference in my C# class library to the unmanaged C++ dll using the 'Add Reference' tab. It did not work (got error saying could not add non DotNet dll) . Curiously, I was able to add a reference to the unmanaged dll to my managed C++ dll. Was that because it was within same solution or does C++ behave differently with respect to adding references. I also tried copying the unmanaged dll everywhere I could think of (bin/debug of C# class library and C# exe). No luck! My questions are: 1. When one uses a managed C++ dll that in turn makes use of unmanaged dlls, what else must one do to get things working? I.e. Compiler settings, additional references, file copying, etc. 2.     - FileStream exception: unknown error Hi, Whenever a customer of ours runs our software on any of his laptops, we get an IOException with an Unknown Error (-1) message at every call to the System.IO.FileStream constructor. This is really annoying, as none of our other customers have this problem, and we have no information whatsoever about the error. I looked into the SSCLI code and apparently on the CreateFile an INVALID_HANDLE is returned, and a call to GetLastError returns -1. It has nothing to do with permissions of security, I think, since new FileIOPermission(secAccess, new String[] { filePath }, false, false).Demand(); (filestream.cs, line 263) doesn't throw an exception. I can understand nobody can give me a "This is it"-answer, but could someone please tell me how to debug a situation like this? This is driving me insane... It with some action buttons. I could place all buttons on this usercontrol but I did not. When the user presses one of the buttons i detect some more action needs to be taken and open a dialogbox. using ShowDialog. But IE finds a usercontrol opening a dialogbox dangerous (Although the usercontrol could alsready have done anything because i have elevated its permissions using a strongname and such.) It changes the dialog icon to include a little exclamation mark and shows a balloon tooltip on this new icon stating: 'Never enter personal information or paswords into a window unless you can verify and thrust the source of the request. Souce: localhost' This is anoying, because it keeps on coming everytime the action is taken and the user has no possibility (it seems) to make this balloon not coming again and again. I was running xp quite successfully albeit slowly without any issues until I turned it on and now I am getting a stop error. Stop: 0x000000E0 param: 0x00000001, 0x80000003, 0x00008080, 0x80e92000 I am a bit techy and have the job of fixing it :( I know that the stop error error 0x000000E0 refers to the ACPI bios. However it works in safe mode and other os and indeed xp until recently. The bios version is : INET24WW, 05/24/1999 I know this could be updated but I hate the idea of updating the bios (in case it goes wrong) and it worked before. However, When running a test on the system board using the bios it reports an error: DEV 001 ERR 91 FRU 3610 I am not too sure what these errors refer too but believe it's something to do with the battery. Besides, if there was an hardware error inside the bios wouldn't it also fail in safemode? Another sceptical moment! Of course, I have tried running msconfig and disabling all startup items and have disabled all options in win.ini, boot.ini etc. I have managed to do this from safe mode. I cant run sfc /scannow cos its in safemode or system restore as it generates an error, indeed getting into the event logs results in an error so I have the stop errors to work from. The people who owned this machine also has a lot of documentation on here. There is no built in nic card and I cant install anything else until I sort out the other stuff. The only real option I could do is use a ubuntu live cd and hope I can mount it and copy stuff over!!!!!!     - Making a Winforms app behave like a Console app I am attempting to add a "console mode" to my Winforms app. My intention is that when I start the app with a special switch (for example "myapp.exe /batch") to does not launch a graphical UI but instead just displays console messages. 1. SQL Server 2005 install more secure. Open the configuration tool and turn
on TCP/IP or named pipes (or both). On a production machine you will want to
think this through a bit more, but this is good for development.

2. If you are getting at the computer remotely, you may also need to turn on
the SQL Browser service.

Follow those 2 and you should be fine.
