    - Source Debugging with VS2008 Anyone gotten this working yet? I'm really looking forward to stepping right into the Framework code.... I have it set to download symbols from: http://source.msdn.microsoft.com/symbols I got his link from Scott's blog at: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/10/03/releasing-the-source-code-for-the-net-framework-libraries.aspx Unfortunatly, that link doesn't seem to exist. Visual Studio isn't able to download anything from there, and I don't anything when I point a browser at the address. I've tried also using the classic symbol server: http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols ... but to no avail. I get symbols, but no source code.     - Custom Configuration Section Help Hi everyone, I have created a custom configuration section which contains an optional configuration element. When I retrieve the custom configuration section, I also get an instance of the nested configuration element even when I don't have it inside the custom configuration section. Need help figuring out how to have null value for the optional configuration element when it is not in the configuration section. I have no problem retrieving the section: <customConfig> <customElement value="blah"/>  </customConfig> Would like to have null when I call customerConfig.customElement with the following config: <customConfig> </customConfig> Currently, calling customerConfig.customElement returns an instance of customElement with the attribute value="".     - Q: displaying image in WPF I am probably doing something really stupid, but I cannot get an image to display in a window using WPF. I copied the image into my main project directory in Visual Studio 2005. I added the appropriate lines to my XAML file: <Image DockPanel.Dock="Top" Margin="5" Source="myimage.png" /> The image displays fine in the design view, but when I build the project and run it, the image does not show.     - AsyncOperation not working as I expected Hi, I'm trying to use AsyncOperation to execute a method in a main thread context from a worker thread. If I run the program from a console application then it doesn't work. If however I run it from a WindowsForms application it does. Basically I set the name of the main thread to "Main Thread", when the "ShouldBeInMainThreadCall" is called the Thread.CurrentThread.Name is null. However if I run it in a WindowsForms application it has the correct name. Could anyone help me with this?     - .NET 1.1 and 2.0 interface binary compatibility Hi, i have an issue with .NET 2.0 compiler, that generates different interface assemblies than .NET 1.1 compiler. And this causes applications (compiled against 1.1 interfaces) to throw System.MissingMethodException. Recompiling application (no changes made) with 2.0 interfaces solves the problem. - But this still breaks binary compatibility, which should be maintained considering interfaces themselves were not changed.     - SMTP Connection failure.... I was wondering if someone could point me to the correct Forum for an issue I am having with Windows Server 2003 SMTP connection failure. I have a small application written in ASP.net that takes user input and then sends the input via Email using system.net.mail. When the user clicks the submit button an email is sent. The first time the submit button is clicked the email sent is fine, but subsequent emails got an error message..unable to connect to the SMTP server. If I take no action and wait 10-20 minutes then run the exact same program again the email will be sent but again there is a delay before it will allow any other emails to be sent. Seems to be a setting I am missing....Any ideas what I shoud look for? I have followed the step-by-step SMTP setup instructions I have seen on the forums and no change....     - Troubles with configuration files for application with several Hi, I have an application that consists in one main exe and several dll's (BL, DAL, Util, etc) Each dll project has its own settings (in Properties\Settings.settings file). When I build the solution, in the bin folder of each project it VS generates the mylib.dll and mylib.dll.config files However, the config files are not copied over to the exe bin filder. There I only see myapp.exe and myapp.exe.config, and mylib1.dll and mylib2.dll, and no mylib1.dll.config and mylib2.dll.config Am I doing something wrong? I thought the dll config's should be copied there too, since for example if I want to test the app from there, the dll's need the config files, isn't it? Do I have to copy the configs manually?     - Trying to separate "base classes" into a separate "baseclasses.cs" from "baseclass.xsd" Folks, I have three WCF services that I need to implement - they're all nicely defined using WSDL and XSD. Common helper and utility classes that all services use have been extracted into a "baseclass.xsd" file, which gets imported into each serviceA.xsd, serviceB.xsd etc. - these classes are in their own XML namespace. What I'd like to do is generate C# code from this, so that I have a "baseclasses.cs", "serviceA.cs", "serviceB.cs" and "serviceC.cs" where the serviceX.cs would import / include / use the "baseclasses.cs" - just keep everything nicely separated and use common code. However, when using svcutil.exe to convert the WSDL/XSD to code svcutil baseclass.xsd serviceA.xsd serviceA.wsdl /outerviceA.cs it basically converts everything fine, however, the helper classes from "baseclass.xsd" are merged into "serviceA.cs", "serviceB.cs", and into "serviceC.cs", too - so now I have each of these helper classes three times........     - How to make string align by string.Format() in CJK? Hi, string.Format("{0,-20} : {1,-10}", a,b); The above code will output string left aligned, 20 or 10 for string a and b. It true for English, but not for any CJK language. If a or b are CJK string, it will never aligned. The reason is that for Chinese (or Japanese, Korean), each character will occupy 2 alphabeta space (not only 2 byte for MBCS in memory). For example: "$BCfJ8(B" will have same visual length with "abcd", however, string.Format() will treat "$BCfJ8(B" as 2 chars, and "abcd" as 4 chars, so string.Format() will padding "$BCfJ8(B" for 18 space, and 16 space for "abcd" if we aligned by 20. So if we see the result, the "$BCfJ8(B" will longer than "abcd" since over padding. This is the problem I am facing.     - Doing more in a BHO... In order to create a BHO, I need to implement (at least) the IObjectWithSite interface. Once registered, any IE instance will call the implemented SetSite(object) method. At this point it's easy enough to hook up handlers for the DWebBrowserEvents2 events. What I have been unable to do (so far) is to work out how (within the BHO) I might hook things up to get events that I can get on the IHttpSecurity and IInternetSecurityManager interfaces. In particular I want to be able to hook onto OnSecurityProblem and ProcessUrlAction. What I need is to tell IE [possibly via an implementation of IServiceProvider.QueryService(ref Guid guidService, ref Guid riid, out IntPtr ppvObject)] that my object implements the necessary interfaces. I have the IUnkown interface pointer of my containing IE [passed as an Object in the SetSite method], but I don't know how to get IE to pass it's events through "me".     - System.Net.Socket question Hi there I've been trying to implement an ACTIVE FTP mode in my class. Read tons of great articles about the difference of Active and Passive modes, in particular this one, which I find very good http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html, but it seems that many have tried to actually implement Active FTP, but failed or have given up. So far, I've managed to build the arguments needed for the FTP PORT command, issued it to the FTP server and received the response, which was 200 (all good). I configured a socket on a port of the client, the same port I instructed the server to connect to, in order to receive data from the FTP server. But it would seems that the FTP server doesn't make a connection on the port I sent it, using the PORT command. I've tried listening for incoming connection requests and accepting them, but nothing seems to be coming in. In spite of the fact the PORT command was accepted by the server. I'm going to try to trace the network packages, hopefully that will give me something new to go on. Should there be anyone out there that has encountered a similar thing, I beg you to shed some light on this subject ;-) Thanks in advance.     - Reading PDA serial number or ID Assuming such a thing exists, I'm looking for a way - ideally a Framework function - that would read the serial number or machine ID or system GUID or some unique identifier of the a PDA (Pocket PC or other PDA with the Compact Fraamework) connected to the desktop. Since "Windows" is installed on and hard wired into the PDA, I'd assume, too, that that is a pretty constant thing; it isn't like you can reinstall Windiows on the PDA as you can on a desktop PC. When the PDA is docked I'd like to be able to have code that's running on the desktop talk with the PDA and read this ID, the purpose being to determine if it is an "approved" machine.     - Serializing Partial Classes (Datasets) I have a dataset called Checklists created with the dataset designer giving me Checklists.designer.cs It has a [Serializable()] attribute, i.e., [Serializable()] public partial class Checklists { ... } In another file, ChecklistsExt.cs I have public partial class Checklists{ public string var1; protected decimal var2; ... } This is part of an ASP.NET app and I put an instance of Checklists in the session data. I am using sqlserver as the state persistence manager. When I attempt to retrieve the Checklists instance from the session data after a round trip, all the tables etc that are managed by Checklists.designer.cs are there, but the variables in "my" half of the partial class have lost their value. The designer generated code has a significant chunk of code in its getObjectData() method and the deserialization protected constructor and that is how it gets its stuff in and out of the serialized session data store. I think that the problem is that if there was no custom serialization code, normal .NET introspection would handle the whole thing for me. But that isn't happening and I can't figure out the right way to hook into the designer's de/serialization logic. If I had created a derived class instead of using partial classes, I could handle the problem easily by overriding the getObjectData and constructor code, calling the base methods and then adding my own custom variable management. The workflow runtime has persistance Service added to it. When the event is actually raised, sometimes it fails in rehydrating the workflow back and at times it works. when I try resubmitting the page, the previous instance also gets excuted along with the current one.This behaviour is not consistant. As far as I can tell, either will work i.e. you only need to install
2.0 SP1
