    - Yahoo historical quote extraction problem I have the following method that retrieves quotes from the Yahoo historical quotes web page. According to their FAQ, there is no limitation on the number of quotes one may download, and because the problem seems to come and go, I'm concerned it may be a problem with my code. In particular, the problem seems to occur when I retrieve quotes over a long period of time. Normally the routine runs every night and downloads the previous days quotes. Occasionally, however, I'll download one or more years worth of quotes for several stocks. It's on these occasions when the code seems to fail. It doesn't fail the first time, though, and it won't necessarily fail on the stock that I'm retrieving multiple quotes from. The exception that is thrown is: "System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: The server committed an HTTP protocol violation." The exception is thrown at wrq.GetResponse(). Once I get this response, I can no longer receive any quotes. My only two options appear to be to drop the connection and reconnect (dial-up), or wait about an hour. I originally thought it was because I was going through a machine using Internet Connection Sharing, but then I did it directly to the internet without a proxy, and the same problem occurred. Anyone have any ideas?     - How to convince client to migrate from ASP to ASP.NET My client have an application completly written in ASP and SQL Server. It's very big web application(Approx 250 ASP pages), It has all Validation rules, Business Rules and Data Access Rules embaded in ASP, even no stored procedures all database call with hard coded SQL.     - Services.exe + handles leak (?) + windows 2000 server sp4 Hello, Im faced with the following problem. I have a client-server application using remoting, and running both client and server on the same machine for a few hours almost "kills" my windows2k server. I guess it has something to do with some sort of leak somewhere, maybe even outside my own applications. When i look at the memory usage pattern of my applications in the task manager i dont see anything strange, memory seems to get released properly (VM size+normal mem size). But when i look at how many handles are being used, i notice that the amount seems to increase for services.exe. About 20 handles per second are added to the total. Closing down my applications does not reduce the amount of handles used by services.exe at all. Another point is that the overal memory usage as shown by the task manager does increase up to the point where the system is unable to function properly, but no application seems to holding on to it. Yesterday i even got this message in the event log after a few hours: Event Type: Error Event Source: Srv Event ID: 2020 The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty. The client-server app uses sql-server, remoting, transfers files with tcp sockets, retrieves and stores files from a share. In my setup everything runs on the same machine (sql, shares, client, server). Is there any way i can investigate where these handles are used for?     - HttpWebRequest to ASPX for Postback I am working with the HttpWebRequest agains a simple aspx page that I created. The page has two panels one for the input of two html input boxes and the secone panel that displays the values of the input boxes on postback.     - Interception , Remoting, & ContextBound objects Existing Scenario We have a windows application that is set up to either run in direct mode or to be remoted. When in remote mode, our business tier class and data tier classes would reside on an application server. These classes are all ContextBound. We have also developed a custom transaction component that uses interception so that when our SAO (server activated object) is instantiated on the server via the first method call against our class, we intercept the call and can begin our database transaction. The transaction would be completed when the method is exited. The SAO is registered on the server as a SingleCall object. A local proxy is created on the client. Issue The interception mechanism works fine when we run in direct mode. However, when we are remoted we have a problem. I have done some research and it appears that the .Net framework is calling InitializeLifetimeService against the AppDomain prior to invoking our method call. After looking at Rotor and the LeaseLifeTimeServiceProperty in the lifetimeservices.cs file, it appears that our object is not considered a single call object because it is ContextBound and remoted. Because of this, InitializeLifetimeService is called which is not the behavior we want because we have registered our server object as SingleCall. This behavior causes our interception to intercept the InitializeLifetimeService call. Ultimately, a database connection is opened, database transaction started, database transaction rolled back, and database connection closed around the InitializeLifeTimeService method call. After that call, our method is executed but the sinks have already been closed so we have no database connection to work with and no transaction to work with.     - Serialization bug between framework 1.0 and 1.1 I read on the remoting group (which I'm not posting to because it isn't managed?) that there was a but in Framework 1.1 that didn't allow for proper serialization of the sortedList class between framework 1.0 and 1.1.     - Clearing "object browser" cache in VS.NET I'm having strange problems with VS.NET. When trying to go to definition, sometimes I get dropped into the object browser with the top assembly highlighted, rather than going to the definition in my source code. The source is part of the project, or is in an assembly that's part of the solution and referenced as a project assembly. The weird thing is that I can go to definition on most classes, methods, etc. but a few don't work. I'm debating over which platform I should develop for. 1.0 programs are 'supposedly' compatible with the 1.1 framework, but I had quite an experience recently with one such app. RegAsm.exe went WAY out of control and made my hdd unbootable. Luckily I had a little Linux experience, and was able to set up LILO to boot Windows. This could have been a once-in-a-lifetime freak occurance, but I won't be trying again anytime soon.     - aspnet_wp dies after every page request I have VS.NET 2003 ide (which uses 1.1 framework and Windows 2000 professional). From what I have uncovered, the worker process aspnet_wp dies abruptly after a webform is serviced. For every page request, it creates a new aspnet_wp process(instantiates it anew).The IIS instance was recycled rarely so it may not becoz of it. Becoz of this I have been unable to debug my application using the debugger and it doesn't hit any of the breakpoints. It also flushes out the static variables due to this.     - Extending Web Controls All, We have a need for a drop down combo that the user can type into and autocomplete. I see both the server side and HTML web controls don't allow either function. Is there an easy way to add such capability without creating a composite control? I have see the ones where a user types into the text box and the matching begins below or next to the text box in the list or combo. Unfortunately, however, we really want to keep the functionality as similar as possible to our Win32 application. Having an OnKeyDown and OnKeyPress event would be nice as well...     - NonSerialized System.Diagnostics.Process member I have a Serializeable class with a public member variable of type System.Diagnostics.Process. I don't want to serialize this, nor is it possible to serialize it. So I added the [NonSerialized] attribute to the type. But, I'm still getting an exception that I am trying to serialize the Process class. To be specific: System.InvalidOperationException: The type 'System.Diagnostics.Process' cannot be serialized because its parameterless constructor is decorated with declarative security permission attributes. Consider using imperative asserts or demands in the constructor. If I change the variable to private instead of public then it works, but I need this to be public. I tried using a private variable with a public, read-only property and it tries serialize it. I tried wrapping the Process member inside a non-serialized class and it tries to serialize it.     - Error Debugging I'm running VS.NET 2003. I have an ASP.NET application that has been working just fine in both debug & production modes. But, now when I try to run the application through debug mode I usually get the following message before the application starts. "A first chance exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional Information: Access to the path "JSEMS.PDB" is denied." I have tried modifying the permissions on the bin folder where this file resides and it doesn't seem to help. Currently, I've got security set to full permissions for "Everyone" and I still get the error. Occassionally, I am able to get it to work but there doesn't seem to be any real pattern to it. An example would be when I created a project, I referenced version 1.0.1 of assembly A - then someone changed assembly A and the new version number is 1.0.2 - but my project still referenaces version 1.0.1 and gives me a warning about copying the asembly to the run directory. Somehow my project knows the version number of the assembly it was using, and is not letting it go (even after deleing all references and rebuilding the project) Any ideas?????     - Java vs. .Net support for Oracle Java JDBC defines four types of database drivers. A type 4 driver is a native protocol, fully Java-enabled driver. For Oracle, this means the driver is written to the socket based protocol supported by Oracle's TNS Listener. Oracle's type 4 driver for Java has been widely used in the Java community since it does not require an Oracle client to be installed on each workstation. A quick look at Oracle's downloads suggests they aren't making it easy for .Net developers. For Java they provide both type 2 and 4 drivers, where their type 2 driver even has a small 200K download that installs the necessary OCI libraries for JDBC only. However, for .Net they only provide a 75MB Oracle data provider for .Net that requires the Oracle client to be installed, and also comes with a large, cumbersome, non-redistributable installation. Is Oracle or Microsoft planning to rectify this situation by providing an equivalent to a Java type 4 driver for .Net?     - Projectfiles on networkshare not working Hi, I want my users to be able to save their Visual Studio .NET projects on their homedir instead of the local drive to make backup easier.     - ole server containers I was researching "ole server containers" and found that this can be done under VS 6.0. What I am now looking for is the same subject matter under the Framework. I want to see if the same possibilities exist under the frame work as they do in VS 6.0. Can somebody point me to the correct naming convention I should be using to see what my choice are. When I do a rebuild all, one referenced assembly gets locked by devenv.exe,
while none of the other referenced assemblies do. This does not happen when
I build that assemlby from it's own project, only from the master project
which is dependent on that referenced assembly. Is this a bug or feature?
