A folder with a PDF file exists in my web site. I have linked to it and when
I preview my web site the hyperlink shows the PDF file. However, as soon as
I upload the web site to the IPS server the hyperlink does not work or show
the PDF file. In turn I get a page that says the page cannot be found. I
need to know how do I address the hyperlink PDF folder and file so that it
will work and show once I upload the web site to the Internet. Thanks!

Make sure the filename of the PDF files contains no spaces or special
characters.

Hello Kathleen,
Thank you for your quick response. The folder is named AssocFromPDF and the
file inside the folder is named AssocForm5.pdf. There are not spaces or
special characters that I know of. When I made the link in frontpage the
links works when I preview the website, and it shows the preview is reading
it from my "C" drive. I have tried the following with no positive results:
http://www.uss-saint-paul-ca73.com/index.html/AssocFormPDF/AssocForm5.pdf
with no results. I continue to get a page which says the page could not be
found. The URL address of http://www.uss-saint-paul-ca73.com is the address
of the website I constructed which has the current problem I have in trying
to show the pdf file once the link to it is clicked. Thank you very much
for your help.

Is this the link?
http://www.saint-paul-ca73.com/USS%20Saint%20Paul/AssocFormPDF/AssocForm5.htm.pdf/index.html

There are so many things wrong with that link I don't know where to start
:-) You have spaces and uppercase letters in a folder name - USS Saint Paul
You have two dots in another folder name; .htm.pdf - if that is truly a
folder, rename it to assocform (all lower case).

Also, make sure that the PDF document has been imported in to your site
before you create a link to it; don't link to the version on your C drive.

Kathleen,
That is the last link I tried. The link that works, but only in preview is
as follows:
AssocFormPDF/AssocForm5.pdf That link works fine when I preview the
website. However, the preview is reading it from my "C" drive. Of course
when I upload it to the Internet the file does not show instead I get a page
saying the "page cannot be found."
I will rename the folder with lower case letters as you suggested. I still
need to address it in such a way that the pdf file is read once it is up in
the Internet.

Thanks again

Hello Kathleen,
Well, what can I say, I renamed and imported the folder and file and it
still works but only on preview. The folder and file were also renamed in
lower case letters.

Again, thank you very much for your time and help.

1st you open your FP web/site using File Open Web/Site
- and select your root web or a folder in Folder List
Then you use the menu File Import (Files) and browse to the folder containing your PDF file and select it
After importing it drag it on a page from Folder List to create a correct link to it

Stefan,
Thank you very much for your help. I did exactly as you suggested and the
folder and file were imported, however, I am back to square one. I cannot
seem to get the right and/or correct hyperlink address to make the link I
have to the PDF file.

Again, thank you very much.

What's the URL? I get a page not found when I use the one you gave before.

Re: How can I hyperlink a PDF file that exists on my web site? by Rob

If you are working with your web/site opened and Import your image into FP
first, and you are using Publish via http method to upload your site, then
FP will correct the url to the file automatically.

Try this.
Open your local web/site
Delete the PDF from wherever it is located in your FP web folder.

Import it again.
Place your link in Hyperlinks dialog by browsing to the imported file which
now exists within your FP web structure.
Save
Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks
File | Publish Web/Site

See if that helps.

Hello Rob,
Thank you very much for your help. I followed and did what you suggested.
It took several minutes to recalculate the hyperlink files, but upon checking
the properties of the link to the pdf file the hyperlink remained the same
and the pdf file still shows only on preview and I get a "page not found"
once it is uploaded to the Internet.

Thank you very much Rob.
