    - Help with dev tool and language selection (or coding) - New to programming I have a problem that I have to solve programmatically and since HTML is pretty much the only code I have been exposed to I need an advice on how to develop the programmatic solution to the problem I have. In the nutshell, it'd be great if you can give me guidance in terms of: 1) What programming language to use 2) What development tools to use 3) Tips on how to code the solution So, here is my challenge: I have a flat text file, 30000 records, each record has two columns, the columns are tab separated. The file looks like this (approximately) Sarajevo 431104-133111 Mostar 441242-133421 Zagreb 432322-134423 The first value is a name of a town, and the second value represent longitude-latitude in degrees, minutes and seconds. For each record I have to create an html file that will be named as the name of the town (i.e. Sarajevo.html). The content of the file will be rather simple; in the first row it will contain the header (i.e. "This page displays longitude-latitude information") - The second row will have the following word: "Grad" - and the third row will contain the name of the city and the fourth row will have the longitude-latitude info. The program also needs to prompt me (before it starts spitting the html pages) and ask what test should be entered in line one (I would than manually enter "This page displays longitude-latitude information") and it also need to prompt me about the text that should be entered in line two (I'd go and manually enter "grad").     - changing name of a field on a form, the value disapears Hello I have Frontpage 2000 When I change the field name from e.g. T27 to Product_A the value is not saved when the form is submitted. It works perfectly fine if the field name is not changed from the one automatically given by frontpage.     - How do I ensure pages at lower resolutions will still fit into the screen? Hi, I've been bothered this problem for a long time and still could not find a best way to ensure that pages (using FrontPage) developed at a higher resolutions (e.g. above 1024 x768 with a larger screen, e.g. 17") will be fit into a screen at a smaller screen (e.g. 15") with a lower resolution (e.g. 800 x 600). Pages are not using frames but with a table of several columns and rows. The entire table is set to 100% and works perfect on higher resolutions and large screens. But when viewing with lower resolutions and smaller screens, all texts on the right column will be scrambled and the top menu will be squeezed to a second line.     - checking users emails using forms Hi We have a FrontPage form that potential customers fill in before getting to our downloads section on our website. We then get an email from 'me' that contains the data typed in by the user. At the moment any 'rubbish' info can be typed in and they will still get to the confirmation page that contains the download links. I would like to have a 'method' of guaranteeing that the emails used are genuine. Many websites I have used need the correct email so that the download link can be emailed, which would be fine for us. Is it possible? I have considered setting up outlook express as an autoresponder, but as the emails come from 'me' rather than the user this would not work. Searching the net I have found references to using asp but it seems to have the content of the email on the page code, so surely all the person would need to do is view source to see the downloads link?     - How to authenticate web users? Hi, What are various ways and the best way to make a secure section of a web site? Example: I need two secure areas: (don't know if it needs https like total encyption) 1.. all members, and 2.. conference attendees so that they can access presentations. I also would like to use forms for online membership applications/renewals and online meeting registration. Do I need a database? Or can I do it somehow with a text file and javascript?...     - Error: 'as' is null or not an object I keep getting this error from my menu bar once I added hyperlinks to it and started selecting topics from the drop-down menu. Line:54 Char: 17 Error: 'as' is null or not an object Code: 0 I have 2 javascript pages and a style sheet page that the menu references... I'm not sure which page the error is coming from or why. I don't want to manually create an htm file with links to the files. What I want to do is create a way for the htm page to read the file / directory information and display it in the format I want and when a file is clicked, it gets opened in Adobe Reader.     - Page within a page Hi, I am relatively new to FP so please bear with me. I am creating a web site and have put my nav bar on a separate page called "Menu.htm". On each page I have inserted a logo that stay in the bottom right corner of the screen (using Dynamic Drive static logo script) which when clicked opens up my Menu.htm page. So far so good! What I want to do is to show Menu.htm in a cell on the current page adjacent to the logo but that only opens when Menu.htm is accessed via the logo script. I thought that I could use FP's included content/page linked to menu.htm but this opens menu.htm permanantly without clicking on the logo. Ideally I would like the menu.htm page to open only when the logo is ckicked and also to open in a position adjacent to the logo. The idea being that the logo is always visible in the bottom right corner of the screen irrispective of he scrolling position and the menu.htm should be with it.     - Preview links not working Hi, I hope some one can help me with this please. When I use Preview in FP2003 the links no longer work when clicked on, if I use IE to preview then everything works as expected. I had this problem before and I think it was due to a security update from MS which they later patched and cured, I have recently done an update but the MS site has no mention of a problem.     - Updating a database For years I have had a form at a hosting service that updated a database. For those same years I have been away from FrontPage. Now the page/form does not work and the service says it is my problem..... love it. I cannot figure out where the problem is in my own form and need to build a new one . From another form a hyperlink passes one Parameter (a unique record number) to this form, the record contents are displayed, changes are made to the fields and the User clicks on the "Update" button.     - Multi part forms I have a client complaint form that I want to change over to a web based entry format. The form is comprised of 4 parts as follows: 1.) client complaint submission 2.) managment reciept, confirmation and routing 3.) internal or departmental review and proposed correction 4.) verification and closeout I am using FP 2003, on IIS 6.0 with asp activated (have already done a simpler Dbase with form submission , asp results etc.) I am confident that I can code the form and set up the database for #1 without any problem. From there I need to be able to be able to pull the data entered in #1 back up and add to it in step #2 or possibly close it out. In #3 another user will need to be able to pull up the data and add to the combined data of #1 and #2 and add to it. And in #4 Open the record set created in step #3 and add to it . Finally I need to be able to activly see the staus of completion at each of the 4 levels. My best solution so far is to have a results table for each of the 4 data entry levels that uses droplist query based on the preceding levels results table and then generate a status level off of each of the results tables. I am wondering if there is a more compact or streamlined way of doing this. I am pretty sure I can do this the way I have just described but it seems like there should be a way of using only one results table and adding to it but i really dont want to give anyone full access to be able to delete and modify. Export it to your desktop (File | Export) and open it from there.

I cannot even open the database. It tries to open and it immediately shuts
down saying report this problem to Microsoft. It will not let me copy it to
another database either. It says wrong file path.

If you are running FP2003, you cannot open the database from within
FrontPage. You have to export it to your PC and open it from there.
