How to create a Hyperlink to an .exe or .lnk file

Hello All

I am attempting to place links on an Portal Server Intranet being edited in
Frontpage to launch applications from the webpage. The problem I am having is
that when I place a Hyperlink on text or a button to either the .exe or .lnk
file to run the application, I have IE ask if I want to OPEN or SAVE the
file. If I select OPEN the application then opens. What I am after is to have
the .exe or .lnk file run without this prompt.

Is this possible ?

There is no way to avoid the dialog and simply cause the file
to run. If you think about why this has not been made possible
you might realize that I could easily trick you into clicking on a
link that would automatically install software on your machine
that could do very bad things...
