I would like to set up a sub site that is accessed from the main site.
I want to limit who sees the subsite. I would like to issue a password
to all the people in my group so they may view the site. Nothing
fancy. You type in the password and you view the site. How doe one go
about validating this on a form?
How doe one go about adding a simple password. I don't want to get
involved in huge data base projects and the like.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825451
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions
