I have added a search page to my website and have published it to my web
server. But for some reason it doesn't want to work i get a error that
doesn't make sense.

www.ujr.ca/search.htm

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any help is appreciated.

Does your website have FP extensions installed?...probably not.

The error message is here: http://www.ujr.ca/_derived/nortbots.htm

nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to
a URL of the form http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

1) No files are on web server
2) server has extensions installed and running
3) I published the files to the web server. (server is my own computer
running XP Pro.)
4) Using FP02

It appears to me that FP extensions are not installed or have become corrupted, so the
error makes sense. The error I get is
"FrontPage Run-Time Component Page

You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the
FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a
web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page."

Contact your web host.

The 4 conditions for nortbots.htm still stand.
Open the web on the server in FrontPage using http:/www.ujr.ca/ as the
web site and run Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks. If the search still
fails then:
Open the web, then the page on the server in FrontPage, and delete the
search component, close and save the page, then open the page and
re-insert it.

Ok Mike, if my FP extensions are corrupted how do i go about fixing them and
how do i know which one are corrupted? Also note that i don't think that they
are corrupted as i am using them in other parts of my site and they work fine.

The only way I know to fix them is contact your host. My host doesn't let users tinker
with them, but some hosts do. I think it's an all or nothing repair. I based my opinion on
http://www.ujr.ca/_vti_inf.html returning a 404 page not found error. If the extensions
are installed, that will give you some info about them. The error message(if you're
getting the same one) seems pretty conclusive also.

This is the URL to your site, correct? http://www.ujr.ca If you browse to
http://www.ujr.ca/_vti_inf.html, then if FP extensions are installed, the page will show
you some information about the extensions (you have to view source).

You can also look in the IIS management console and right click on the site, choose Tasks,
and see if anything about extensions is in that dialog.

Another way: Open control panel | Add/Remove programs. Select Add/Remove Windows
components. Scroll down to Internet Information Services. Click on it and then click
Details. Look for Front Page Server Extensions. That box should be checked.

Yet another way. Read the error message the system returned to you. That one is pretty
straightforward. (You never did say if you got the same one I did).

This is based on IIS5.1 and WIndows XP Pro. SOme of the words may vary a minor bit, but
the principle is the same.
