database field is an href w/ a mailto:) problem is when I get the
results I get http://Email Us - how can I get rid of the http://?

In Normal view, right-click on the field, select Hyperlink, choose
Parameters, delete http:// from the Path box and type mailto: in its place.
Choose Insert Field Value, and select the fieldname containing the e-mail
address from the dropdown list.

You're welcome! If you ever upgrade to FP2002 or FP2003, you'll find
instructions for those versions as well on this page:

How do you keep from having to do this every time. Is there a default that
you can set or clear so it doesn't show up in the first place?

No, there's no default setting. But the good news is that you only have to
do it once for each Database Results Region, not once for each record in
your database.

If you don't make the DB field a hyperlink field in the first place
- it won't ever show up

I guess I have never used the hyperlink field type for that reason....

Just make it a hyperlink when you put it on the page instead.
