Hi. I am working in MS FrontPage 2003. I have an HTML document that appears
fine in FP. The problem occurs after I uploaded it to my web host and view
it: the background design is gone--it is now white, and the images (.jpg and
.gif) are replaced by the dreaded red Xs.

I have heard of the image path being set locally and this being a possible
reason for the problem. How do I correct this local path problem?

Thanks much,

John

Your images should be imported into your local web before you insert them
into a page. When you publish, FP will publish the images as well.

Kathleen,

Thank you for the quick reply. What do you mean I should import them into my
local web? I THINK I already did this. After I purchased images and the web
page design I saved them in MS FrontPage 2003. Also they do appear in Local
Web Site when I have the split screen of Local Web Site and Remote Web Site.

Open your local web site in FrontPage, and then File | Import your images
into the images folder. Then, with your local web site still open, open a
page and insert an image from the image folder into the page.

I cut and pasted the images into the images folder. I was not sure what you
meant by "with your local web site still open, open a
> page and insert an image from the image folder into the page." I already have the page with the images created as a separate html document. When I open it in the Local site, it's fine--everything is where everything is supposed to be.

Don't Cut/Paste or Copy/Paste
You must IMPORT or Drag/Drop into a web/site.

What's the URL of a page in your live site that has this problem?

Rob,

I appreciate the input. What then is importing? Taking the purchased
pictures from the photo website and putting them into the html document that
will be the actual web site? Can I import from FP 2003's Local site to the
Remote site (my web host)? If yes would they go into the web host's image
folder?

Rob, I am going to be stepping out for the day and won't be back until the
evening (Eastern Time, US). I wanted to let you know because I appreciate
your help and I didn't want you wondering if you don't see a reply from me
after you answer the above ?s.

Thanks again.

Kathleen,

Thanks again. I just uploaded the page the other day and I am not sure how
the actual URL would read. In other words I don't know if it would be
something like http://mywebsite/problem page.com. I am rushing out now to get
something for my wife and then to visit a friend in the hospital. I will get
back to you. Thanks.

Store your downloaded original purchased images in any folder you like on
your hardrive.

Then;
Open FP
Open your local website
then File | Import and browse to the images you want to import (sidebar: you
should not use FP to edit images, so you will want the images to be resized
& optimized first)
Import the images into your Images folder (they can go anywhere in the
website that makes organizational sense to you...but for now put them in
Images folder)
Now, insert them into your layout by drag/drop or the insert method, but use
the images that you imported into FP website.

-- Download IrFanview (a freebie) this is an excellent program used to batch
process, resize, rename, optimize etc...images.

hth,
Robo

Rob,

I am not sure you can answer this but: my web site's two other pages have
the same background and images and I did not have any problem. I did not have
to import or do anything else. Why were the two prior pages--same background
and images--easy and this third page so difficult.

I imported all the images in the Local Images Folder and then FTP them to
the Remote Local Folder and I still get the red x's and no background design.
I am going to creat the problem from scratch and if after that if I still
have the same problem I am going to just creat the web w/o the design and
pixs.

Thanks.

What's the URL of a page in your live site that has this problem?

Not sure, but it sounds like either; you were working on a loose page (the
third page) and did not have your web opened in FP...or using ftp you may
have not uploaded the actual image file(?).

Post the URL to the offending page, maybe that will give us more clues.

Kathleen,

Thank you for all your help. I decided to make the page sans graphics and
background design. This is a business project that has taken so many months
with so many challenges now that I come to this I just decided to forgo the
images and get this finally going.

All the best and all my appreciation,

John
