Was the "Critical Upgrade" an attachment in the email?
If so, you have installed a virus. Microsoft NEVER send attachments in
emails.
Do a complete scan of your PC with your up-to-date anti-virus program.
If you downloaded the update from the Windows Update website, try posting in
microsoft.public.windowsupdate
