My web site statistics indicate a number of 404 (page not
found) errors, and many of the errors are for pages in
the cgi-bin directory and/or include formmail.* or
mailform.*.

I have a run-of-the-mill feedback form in my web site,
which works, as far as I know.

I don't have a cgi-bin directory.

What's going on here? Am I missing something? I'm
worried that people are trying to contact us and it's not
working for them.

That's probably just people looking for non existent files. cgi files are a favorite target of
hackers.
