    - problem publishing to the web Let me start by letting you know that I am using FrontPage 2000 with winXP. I am new to using FrontPage and creating web pages. I created a personal web page and I am having a problem publishing my site to the server. I have webspace available through my ISP, Cox cable. I followed the instructions given by FrontPage and by Cox's website (http://support.cox.net/custsup/personal_pages/instructions.shtml) and it appears that I was able to publish it no problem. Through Cox's website I am able to see that the files are indeed on their server. When I try to view my website though, http://members.cox.net/jamesclery/, I just get a screen with info on getting started, the same thing I got before I published it. Cox does support FrontPage and I have activated FrontPage server extensions. Also once I publish the pages I get a dialog box in FrontPage with a link to view my site. When I select the link, I am asked to log in and then I get a page with all of the files and folders that I published, but not a web page. The address is also listed as FTTP: (or ftp:) instead of http:. I have know idea what the problem could be and being inexperienced with creating and publishing WebPages I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Cox's tech support for this is of no help at all. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction for troubleshooting I would appreciate it, maybe someone else who has a personal web page with Cox cable. Tag: Banner Ad Manager Tag: 20970

    - photo captions with wraparound text?? Hi, I'm trying to include photos with captions in a page where the page text wraps around the photo. It's easy if there's only the photo - the caption doesn't seem to be possible. Text doesn't wrap around tables or gallery items. Is there a way to do this from within FP?? I'm out of ideas. Thanks!     - Blank link bars. On the bottom of my web site, home page two of the several link bars are blank with only the link page and a red "X" in the upper left corner. They do not have the theme formatting for some reason. This same problem exists on the third page of my site with one link. These links work properly the just do not look proper. Any suggestions.     - new at database with frontpage. hello, i'm new at using a database with frontpage. i've used frontpage for a while though. i've searched for something like a tutorial for using databases, but to no avail. i am helping a friend with a webpage. he wants to start a VA (Virtual Airline) and he doesn't know anything about webpages and coding. i said i would do it, and i thought using a database for storing pilot names, IDs, hours, ranks, and stuff like that would be easier than anything else. if one person or a couple people can collaborate on a way to teach me what to do to make it work. the website will have a page where the pilot will submit their hours flown for that flight they were scheduled for, and have a page to show all the pilots active how many hours, and their ranks and stuff. i have a database started with a table and form, but no query. also, if the page is going to show the pilots, how can i have it not show inactive pilots? thanks for anybody who helps me and reads this very lengthy post.     - Permissions hello, Sorry for the cross-post, but I didn't know where to post. I've got two subwebs that I wanted to change permissions on. I had gone to Tools | Permissions and selected from the webpage that the permissions were unique. I get prompted with a login, but since I have no users defined, I am unable to access the site to proceed with setting up users.     - Can't access Excel from FrontPage I access an excel 'database' from a FrontPage based web. When I publish to my own (inhouse)server all works OK. When I publish to the external webserver, it can't access the spreadsheet. I keep getting errors. "Data source name not found and no default driver specified". I tried opening the page in Frontpagefrom the public server rather than my PC. Worked OK, but when I tried to edit the database connection in Frontpage, I got an error:- "The database results region cannot be edited because the Frontpage database features are not available on this web." When I tried to verify the database connection, it came back with:- "The Frontpage database features are not available for one of the following reasons: The web administrator may have disabled them; your server is running an older version of Frontpage Server Extensions; or the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) component may not be installed on the web server. Please contact your database administrator." I understand that MS Frontpage (Version 2000 and after) is supposed to set up all the database connections itself, although it needs the ODBC and ADO options installed.     - Populating text box from drop down I found the following tip (below) on a post of a few days ago - it's what I want to do - take the value selected from a dropdown and place it in a text box to query the db.     - Using Webalizer; all referrers are from links on my own website I know this is not a specific FrontPage question, but I also know that many of you FrontPage publishers use hosts that offer Webalizer in your stats package. I use the host Ipowerweb. For some reason, all my referrers are from links on my own website instead of links from other websites. For example, my number one referrer is the hyperlinked gif that I use to let users return to the homepage. The Ipowerweb support says this is normal, but I know it is not. The Webalizer on my last host always showed referrers that came from other websites. I would think Ipowerweb has some command line option set wrong or not set at all.     - Blacked Out Navigation Text I've just moved up to FP 2002 and have run into a strange problem ... the text in my navigation bars is blacked out. I loaded the drop-down with strings, and gave each item a value that is a page name. I want the user to select an item and click the button, and then, in VBScript, open the page they selected in a new window. The HTM/VBScript I have is below.     - Using but not using Frontpage 2002 I asked this once already, got no response to speak of. I've been using Frontpage for several years, currently FP2002. I use no FP services except the shared borders. I want to get rid of various "extra" directories etc that FP 2002 routinely makes that I understand have something to do with the FP Extensions. I want the cleanest FP code I can get, code that is the least Frontpage-ized. And I do not want to switch to Dreamweaver, thanks. So what I'm asking is how to use the FP program without involving ANY of the FP "extras" or extensions, and how to get rid of all the extra directories that I won't need cause I'm using none of the extensions.     - bug in frontpage 2002 This is probably not the place to post this but after 20 minutes of looking for a place to report a bug, I gave up. There is a problem in frontpage 2002 and was there in earlier releases. If you insert a picture (picture01.jpg) and publish the page and later change the picture but keep the same name and publish again, the old picture will be used. Frontpage will never use the updated picture when two different pictures with the same name were used. You have to either come up with a different name or go to the server and delete the old one.     - Incompatible w/ user Resolution I just launced this site a couple days ago: http://home.comcast.net/~p51bombay/index.htm Apparently some users have to scroll to the right to view the entire page and I would like to correct this. I built it on a 1400 pixel wide table with the 250 pixel wide blue border on the right meant to be cut off in lower resolutions but apparently substantially more is being cut off depending on the users resolution and screen size so they must scroll right to view it. So the question is, what should be changed to make it more viewable for a wider range of users? I would think that the older, lower resolutions are getting few and far between, but perhaps I am misjudging how many people are still using older equipment. What is the most common resolution these days? I played around with building the table using % instead of pixels, but it doesn't seem to work with photos, text boxes, etc that are positioned absolutely....I never really wanted the text boxes, but couldn't figure out how to keep things in place without them........how do I do that? I am not a programmer, but I am pretty good with tweaking the code FrontPage generates and adding simple JavaScript. I can run plenty of great queries for records in a DB.     - persistant js code "outline.js" I noticed recently a file "outline.js" in my web. The only link to it in my site is a single page. I have no idea what this does or why it is there. I tried to delete all javascript code from my html and when I try to save the file FP tells me that it is unable to open the file and the javascript reappears.     - Front Page Web Operating Very Slow Hello All, I hope this is the correct group to post this issue. I am experiencing a strange occurrence with one front page web on a server that has multiple webs. Here is my situation. I'm running Windows 2000 Server SP2 on a beautiful Compaq server with plenty of horse power (dual 2 gig processors, 6 GB RAM etc). There were 3 existing webs in IIS on the Server that all work great. Normally, when I open a web, open pages and save pages, the response time is very fast (and still is) on the 3 existing webs. A page usually saves to the server in about 2-3 seconds. However, with this new web that I established (identical configuration I believe), the web can take up to 2 minutes to actually open in my Front Page client, pages can take up to 60 seconds to open and up to 2 minutes to save changes. These symptoms only exist on this last web I've created. Here is what I've done so far. I've tested all 4 webs on multiple client machines using both FrontPage 2000 and FrontPage 98. Same results. The first three work and responded very quickly and the 4rth responds extremely slow. I've changed IP address on the 4rth web, created a new home directory, recalculated FP extensions, removed and reinstalled FP extensions, deleted and recreated the web itself and given it a variety of different names. Nothing. The only observation I come up with is that if I want another web on this server, it is going to respond as slow as I've described earlier. I know this makes no sense because I have other servers with 40 and 50 webs that all work fine. Any ideas and assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please reply to the group if possible. Can't seem to get the banner ad maanger to work with
animated ads. Does anyone know if it does? If so, how?
