    - Index File -error reading file message I am new at Frontpage and everything has been going fine, but today when I try to open my index.htm file I get the error message Error Reading File. So, I tried deleting the entire file going to my back up file, reloading it. Everything worked great published the website, the website updated.     - Java script link.... I've a JS slide show where I would like the last jpg image to have a navigation menu with links to other pages on this web. I don't think I can add links to a jpg image, so I was thinking it may be possible to have the images overlay the menu until the last image when the menu would show through.     - Huge default.wti file in _vti_txt folder I am using Front Page 2003 SP1 My host provider informs me that I have a default.wti file in the _vti_txt folder which is 104 MB large. My whole website is under 65 MB. It does not appear to be on my own computer, so I assume it is something generated on the host site.     - Frustration! Office 03 & Outlook Express I am so frustrated. For 3 wks. I struggled with Office 07 & have gone from my original MS Office 98 to 2003.     - FTP Publishing and Trojan Horses I've got two sites that run w/o FP extensions on two different servers, so I publish to their ftp address. During uploads, my Norton Anti-Virus will randomly pop-up a window that it has blocked a Trojan Horse, related to an FP process. The upload is temporarily blocked, but resumes after I click on "OK". This probably happens about 50% of the time I upload to these servers, but I have not been able to figure out why sometimes and not others. Both servers are professionally managed and scans with NAV, adaware, etc have not turned up a problem, but it's still never a good feeling.     - adding bcc to mailto I am using FP2003. I have been asked by a site owner (president of a non-profit club) to monitor emails. I have the mailto link directed to a board memeber who is suppose to report the president all emails from a specific page. The president of the club is wondering if this person doing their "job." we know there is lots of activity on the page, but the board member claims no emails.     - Preventing Duplicate Users Hi there I've created protected ASP pages in my website following instructions in article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825498 Users are prompted to log on or register if they aren't already registered. The registration form is split over two ASP pages. The first page simply asks for email address, username and password and, on submit, posts to the second ASP page. The second page asks the user for contact details (name, address etc.) I would like the first page of the registration to check the database to find if there are any records with the same username or email address before posting to the second page. If the username or email address already exists, I want to return an error prompting the visitor to try another username or email address. I've set the properties of these fields in the access database to disallow duplicates. However, if a visitor enters a username or email address that already exists in the Access Database, the record is not added to the database but the user is unaware and can complete and submit the registration form.     - cut 'n paste Javascript into BODY & getting it to validate I use cut 'n paste Javascripts. The validators dont like these. I found that, for those which are loaded in the <head></head> that the simple process of linking it from an external file seems to validate and the JS works. But, what do I do when the Javascript needs to be in the BODY, not in the HEADER? I am not sure if any browsers will link in an external Javascript that is evoked between the <BODY> and </BODY> markers. Any suggestions on how to get this JS to validate?     - Upload photo from user to us Hi Not sure really if this is possible or (more likely) I'm thinking about it in the wrong way. I have an application form that saves input to an access db. I need people to also send me a photograph of themself (just a face shot for a liftpass in a ski resort). I know that storeing a photo in access is a "big" mistake but I hope to somehow have a "upload photo" button on the page and then (not really sure how) they could browse to a photo on their hard drive and upload it to me. I could store it in the on-line access database (I can set the table field formats no probelm) as this is emptied everyday so the bloating would not be too bad.     - Navigation bars not showing in browser after publishing intranet I am using a windows xp professional computer to host an intranet. I use Frontpage to design the site. I am using shared border feature. When I publish, link navigations bars don't show in a browser when I view the published page in a browser. When I am publishing, the following message comes up. 'The following pages in your website contain link bars or navigation bars that use new navigation options. They will not display properly because the server you are pubishing to does not suppot these features. To enable link bars, publish your website to a server running the latest version of frontpage server extensions or sharepoint services.' I checked the microsoft website for help and the Technet site has advice on how to intstall sharepoint from the XP cd. However, when I tried to, there was no sharepoint folder in the XP cd. How can I resolve this problem? The computer hosting the intranet has Frontpage 2000 server extensions. Help me with either upgrading this or installing sharepoint so I can run the intranet smoothly. I've been given username and passwords to log onto the site as an author, but was told to log on to (just an example) www..help.me.com.     - Cannot log onto site due to "too many pages" for FP Our host is web.com (formerly Interland.com). Today I could not log onto our site to update two pages, receiving the FP error message: Unable to open <website>.com Possible causes: 1. The web server may not have the FPSE installed. 2. The web server may be temporarily out of service. 3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be incorrect. 4. An error may have occurred in the web server. When I log on to our Control Panel and try to do a Fix/Check of the FPSE it fails with a similar message. Our Email contact form is not working, so the FPSE are broken (they worked yesterday). We do not connect through a proxy server. After this happened over several hours I called Web.com. Their tech support (in Columbia, South America) told me FP has a size limit of 1000 pages and I have 1054 pages. I know from reading a posting by Ron Symonds ("Ronx") that FP has no page limit (thanks, Ron!), so I am about to call them back and go another round with them. Can anyone suggest any cause for this that is my fault? Something I can do? Or is the only thing I can do is convince Web.com to reboot the server, etc.?     - no can publish - the error 403 from author.exe I had this problem when I publish: it transfers files but fails after the stage "processing web updates for" When I click details, it shows error 403 forbidden You don't have permission to access /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe on this server. It happens whether I publish all or only changed files. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Frontpage extensions. Also tried with and without the "cleanup old extensions". Also tried waiting a while between uninstall and reinstall. I have never used ftp to this website. Nor have I meddled with the .htaccess or other config files. I tried the FPCLEANER program, that achieved nothing. I ran virus/spyware scanners, hardware diagnostics, even one of them "regcleaner" thingamies. Besides that I removed Office 2000, and reinstalled it. Nothing helped. All was fine for several months. This started happening a few weeks ago.... I called the webhost support people. They were helpful. They reinstalled the Frontpage extensions from their end, but no change. I gave them all the files from my web, and they were able to publish okay; could not reproduce my error. I trawled though Microsoft knowledge base, and could not see this particular problem expalined. So I searches many web-nerd forums, and one person said he added a slash after the domain name, that fixed it. But not for me. Another said he had a corrupt jpeg file that caused it. This was at first promising. I noted the last jpeg transferred before the error, and deleted it, then recreated it and imported back into the web. Then publish worked! However, the "corrupt" picture could be viewed in 8 different programs. Unfortunately, the problem returned. So I removed the last jpeg transferred before the error. Still the error 403. So I delete the second last, and then the third last, but now the publish still fails. I found one discussion which suggested too many files in one directory can choke Frontpage, but didn't say what that limit is. At the moment, there are 14 html files, 239 files in images directory, and 266 files in another directory. There is one theme used, with several dozen files in that. I have ye olde Frontpage 2000. I have a new computer, (I didn't have this problem b4 on my old computer),
when I try to connect to the server to connect to my websites and I enter the
user name and password and click ok, all that happens is that the connect
window reappears. It doesn't connect or give me an error message. I must be
doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it can be.

Are you trying to log on using the http:// address.
If so, have your host reset the extensions.

If trying to log on using ftp:// make sure passive mode is set in Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.
