I got instructions from this newsgroup on how to move my web from my web
site back to my computer. I'm using rontpage 2002 running on a new machine
under Vista and I lost the web when I moved to a new machine.

After making a new folder, I opened FP, hit open a web, then entered the web
address and pulled up the web from the internet. I then hit Publish Web and
tried to publish it to the new folder. It won't publish - saying the folder
is not available.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is this perhaps because I'm using FP 2002?

FP 2002 / 2003 is problematic on Vista to start with.

But did you create an new web locally? And then close that web - open the
one on the server - File - Open Web - http://www.example.com and publish
locally?

You might consider downloading Expression Web to try it out - it will be
better for you in the long run

Browse to the new folder using FrontPage.
right click and select "convert to web."
Then open the remote and try to publish back to the new folder.

Can I open my current web made with FP 2002 in Expression Web? Can I
transfer much of my understanding of FP to Expression Web or is there a
whole new learning curve?

Yes, you can open a FP2002 web in Expression, and yes there's a learning
curve. A little HTML and CSS knowledge would be a big advantage.

Most of the FP features have been removed - EW is not just another version
of FP, it is a completely re-built product. Most of the "web-bot"
functionality as you've come to know it in FP is not in EW. It does have
some backwards capability, eg. can publish using the FP extensions, and the
FP forms still work (as do the other web-bot type features) but you can't
easily add new web-bot featres. Also, things like photo gallery and the
navigation components are gone as are the drawing (VML) tools.

So....really it is a whole new product, but as far as using it is concerned
I'm sure you shouldn't really have much trouble. You can always ask this
group for further assistance.
