    - "Could not find a web server on port 80" A few months ago I began receiving an error message when trying to open my website to edit. "Could not find a web server at www.cpacinc.org on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly...." I had not changed anything recently, the message just started popping up one day. My web host company said to reinstall front page extensions, which I did, but the problem persisted. Suddenly, one day, everything started working fine again. Now today, the same message has been popping up as well as messages about missing files. Sometimes the files open, sometimes the web page opens and other times, I get the error message.     - Child Level Pages I am using Frontpage 2003 and I am having trouble making one of my pages branch off to a child level page. I have my website with all the links in the navigation bar, but I can't add sub links to one of the tabs. I've tried to go to the navigation view and add an exisiting page, but it won't let me have that option (I can't click on it).     - Milo: Background shows live on net but not in design or preview mo I changed the background graphic on a webpage from one jpg to another. I continue to see the old jpg background in both Design mode and Preview mode, but I also get a message saying, "To view all elements in this page correctly, save or publish the page and preview it in a browser". Sure enough, live on Firefox and IE, it looks right, but it makes programming tougher because the background affects where I want to put text (not where a certain pattern would make it hard to read on the left, for instance). There must be a way to fix this, since I'm still seeing the old graphic...which is referenced no place that I can find in the HTML!     - Displaying swf files I read the archives on this subject but still have some questions. I work in support stafffor Univ. of Delaware and inherited responsibility to maintain current Web site without having any real training in that area so I am in OTJT. We have Windows 2003 Server and FP 2003. The sub Website in question is: http://www.rec.udel.edu/poultryextension/new_page_3.htm I have had our IT dept in main campus convert 6 PowerPoints to swf files. On my PC XP (not server) where I have Flash Player, Shockwave and Adobe CS3, I was not able to view the final swf files. They came to me with that generic program icon. Only in Bridge could I view them. Now, on our server, with FP 2003 I want to provide visitors with the capability to easilty view these six presentations. There is no Adobe software other than reader installed on the Server. Right now, you will see the six presentations as PowerPoints but many folks cannot view these properly which is why we requested flash swf files in the first place. Now that I have the swf - what do I need to do with them? Will viewers need to have flash plyer or shockwave player to view? Is there a way to download the required player automatically or will I need to provide the install link separately. Why could I not see them on my own computer.     - web site Development Hello, I only intend to "display" data on the website that currently resdes on my excel file. i.e. users will not download the data displayed on the website but only read it as displayed. Hence I was curious to know if the Excel file can still be used as a database(using ODBC drivers then using database result wizard) Please review and advise if it is okay to use Excel to only "display" data and how to do that. I would be updating the Excel fle daily and hence the data on the website should change daily as well.     - Reinstalling Frontpage 2002 I have a new computer, OS Microsoft XP. I need to reinstall FrontPage 2002. I cannot get it to accept product key on the back of the CD case; the message either says the product key is wrong (it's the one PRINTED on the case) or it cannot find the CD if I pursue the options.     - link bar problems I seem to be having trouble getting my link bar to work. I am using Frontpage 2003. When i open my website using frontpage the link bar isn't there, the only thing that appears is the "+ add link". which means the link bar is actually there but why can't i see the tabs. Then when i upload it the text appears but not the colourful style tabs.     - Forms I need to make a form which will collect a information from it. We have a church website using FP2003. We make offers for various informaton such as articles, CD's and DVD's. Each would have to have its own form and title. Right now the form is just a text email and I have to enter the name, address and etc. into an Excel spread sheet when the emails are received. What I would like to have done is have that information automatically placed into a form which I can use to print up the mailing labels for each request. Can anyone help with this? I'm managing a website that has frequent page additions and deletions, and the site could really benefit from a custom 404 page. My server's knowledgebase has instructions for creating a custom error page by editing the .htaccess file, but warns against doing so when using FP, since this will corrupt the configuration files.     - Layout of website is not flawless in Firefox and Netscappe My website looks fine in IE 7, but not in Firefox and Netscape. I use a DWT, and if I remember correctly, I designed the site with a layout table with "Corner, Header, Left and Body." I split the body to get two columns. I added header, footer and applied corners and shadows. In Firefox and Netscape, the headers and footers of some pages are not consistent.     - <body> tag duplicate For some reason Frontpage adds a second <body> tag in the code of my Frontpage. What happens is that the body of the webpage is duplicated. When I create a page, I have to go to the code page and delete the duplicate <body> tag to prevent that. If I open a previous page that has already been created, I have to delete the extra <body> tag before saving. If I don't delete the extra <body> tag it will duplicate each time I open it. If I open it for editing four times, I will have 4 <body> tags and when it is published, I will have four pages of the same thing and you won't be able to read it. I have searched for a solution to this but haven't found one. Microsoft talks about a duplicate <body> tag but states it ignores the second one but it doesn't ignore it. It must be in the template in Frontpage but haven't figured out how to fix this. Any ideas? Thanks for your help in advance. I have had one site up a running for six years and the other site is new. I went online to edit the new site and I noticed that it did not prompt me for a username and password, it just went into editing mode but when there I could not access the navigation structure. You need to use layers if you want content on the page to "overlap" or be positioned
- requires a knowledge of CSS and DHTML
