Think I've broken OWA
SBS 2003
I think I've broken some kind of association within IIS, as OWA has
stopped working. If I go to the http://server/exchange page, I see a
directory listing of the various mailboxes.
So, for example, I see a "folder" for myself. If I go into the folder,
I see folders for each of my personal folders (Inbox, Calendar, etc.).
If I go into Inbox, for example, I see a list of ".EML" files.
I'm guessing that there's an IIS plug-in I've broken..?
Any clues how to resurect this?
Thanks,

Just Another 2000 to 2003 OWA Access Denied Question
I upgraded Exchange 2000 to 200
Exchange 2003 is working. OWA work for the admin account and new users but not for previously created windows 2000 users
I check the permisssions. Ran throught the support articles and configuration steps related to Access Denied errors on th
exchange support page.
Checked all folder / file permisssion, policies looking for authorization and differences between the new and previous user accounts.
The only things noteworth are the old account names don't match mailbox names
ie.
Previous 2000 Account Names ie Jeff Mich does not match email account mich@mydomain.co
New Account Name Test2 matches Test2@mydomain.co
In the web virtual directory under exchange if click on any of the effected previously created Exchange 2000 users I get Access Denied for that folder in the virtual directory. For the new users and the administator the folder list is accessed. This is my bset clue does any one know what this means when the folders under the virtual directory can not be accesssed

Exchange services stop after W2K3 Inplace Upgrade

We just preformed an inplace W2K3 server OS upgrade on a W2K server. The server had E2K3 installed on it. After the upgrade is finished and server reboots, a quick check of the services shows that several exchange services did not start. You can manually start them, sometimes.

Configure OWA External Access???
I need some help setting up OWA external access. I'm
running SBS2003 w/Exchange 2003 behind a router. OWA
works within the LAN, but not externally. Dunno what/how
I need to configure DNS or IIS6 to make it work. Am
particularly confused because the intranet and OWA
function off of the local.domain.com DNS records, and not
my external www.domain.com.
Having the same problem accesses the mycompanyweb
exteranally as well. Can hit the welcome page externally
by typing in my public IP, and the "information and
answers". Cannot access, however, the "my company's
internal web site" or "remote web workplace" or "network
connection wizzard". They just go to 403.6 error
messages. My www.domain.com web pages work fine through
IIS/DNS. Can anyone help?? Tag: Win 2003 with CA or PKI for Exchange 2003 Tag: 111892

OWA 2003 - Front End to Back End in another Site/Admin Group
Hi All,
I'm a exchange 5.5 admin, used to outlook web single address, able to
connect to other sites. Although I'm unsure if this works with exchange 2003
?
Anyway, I have recently setup a front end server for exchange 2003. Although
unfortunately I cannot seem to connect to the back end server in another
site/admin group.
Although connecting directly to the back end server works with no problem.
The error messages what I getting is a simple 404 error although the layout
in internet explorer is correct.
Last two entries on the front end server the following,
16:52:42 192.168.1.88 GET /exchange/testing/ Cmd=navbar 80 domain2\testing
192.168.1.68 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.1) 404 0 0
2004-03-02 16:52:42 192.168.1.88 GET /exchange/testing/Posteingang/
Cmd=contents 80 domain2\testing 192.168.1.68
Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.1) 404 0 0
Although what is really interesting is that when I setup another folder from
System Manager, and set the SMTP address, for the second site, then it works
okay for the second site.
Strange problem which occurred as well, was on the backend server from the
second site, the "exchange" directory SMTP address was actually pointing to
the first site i.e.. sitename1.domain.com whereby it should have been
sitename2.domain.com. Although I was able to fix this by deleting the
"exchange" directory via ADSIedit and creating another pointing to the
correct SMTP address.
Any help would be great!

Exchange 5.5 to 2K migration
I have been following MSFT migration articles and am
getting close but have hit a stumbling block. I have a
native mode Win2K server environment, with 5.5 running on
my PDC. I have installed Exchange 2K loaded on a separate
machine that is not a DC. I've run the ADC and it seems to
have run successfully as I now see Exchange options in AD
users & computers. Here's my roadblock, in article 316886,
under Migration of Mailboxes and Public Folders it says
"Start the Exchange 5.5 Administrator program, and then
connect to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
Locate the following folder, and then click Public Folder
Resources:
Organization\Site\Configuration\Server\ServerName\Public
Information Store\Public Folder Resources
For each public folder in the right pane, click File, and
then click Properties.
On the Replicas tab, make sure that only the Exchange 2000
Servers you are replicating the public folder to are
listed on the right side under Replicate folders to. If
the Exchange 2000 server is listed on the left side under
Servers, click the Exchange 2000 server, and then click
Add to move it to the right side." I don't see my new
Exchange 2K server when I do this and I can't add it.
Therefore I can't replicate public folders. Also when I
try to right click on a user in AD and choose Exchange
tasks, move mailbox is not an available task to choose.

Strange issue installing OWA 5.5 on Win2K Server
Hi all
I had a strange issue when installing OWA 5.5 on a Win2K server with IIS5. After the install is complete, the C:\exchsrvr\WEBDATA folder does not have the IIS Guest Account on it, therefore any attempt made to actually logon fails, as it calls the asp script in this very folder! Applying the permission manually resolved the problem. However, the first time I rebooted the server after doing this, it came back up with a completely empty wwwroot folder, and nothing in the recycle bin! I have to completely re-install IIS, and then OWA to fix this. Then I also still had to re-apply the Internet Guest Account to the WEBDATA folder, but subsequent reboots didn't cause the same issue
Anyone else experience these issues, or have any idea what could cause them

How to replace old 5.5?
Hi,
How it should be done?
Situation:
AD in use.
All servers are W2000 or W2003 servers, except old 5.5 has NT.
Ive installed exchange 2003 on w2003 server and its now backend server, all
mailboxes are moved to this server (backend).
But incoming mails come through old Exchange 5.5 on NT server.
Next step is replacing this NT wiht w2003 server with exchange 2003 front
end installation.
Should the new frontend server be a domain member (because AD)? We will use

In a public folder containing about 50 000 journal items, is it normal that
there is a delay of several minutes from when you click the folder (in

If not, what can be done to speed things up? The network and hardware is not
expected to be a bottleneck.

Exchange w2k3 install.........best practise advice.. this is a beauty
Hi Everyone
I'm looking for a bit of best practise advice about the
exchange W2k3 install. In our current environment we made
a bit of a mistake when creating the original AD domain.
We already had an exchange 5.5 server up and running on an
NT box. And instead of using this to populate our Active
directory user accounts, we started again from scratch,
effectively creating 2 domains. Mail and the AD domain.
Looking back on it we should have investigated more but we
never had the time. The affect means that all users have
to log onto there PC's then log onto there e-mail accounts
separately, we have no trusts set up anywhere. We also
have a problem with all users mail being stored locally
(unless they travel between sites then it's on a network
share). All e-mail files are always stored as a PST file
in any given location.
Now a small team of us have been given the task of
installing exchange w2k3 into our domain and migrating all
the mail boxes over. All the technet advice i can find
seems to point to migrating from a "proper" install, where
by you used your NT 4 domain and 5.5 accounts to populate
your new Active Directory structure. But as you can see
from the above our scenario is slightly unique. i would be
much obliged if anyone could offer some tips on how best
to proceed

GroupWise migration
Most of my migration experience has been with earlier
versions of GroupWise and Exchange. We are moving from
GroupWise 5.2 on NetWare 4.11 to Exchange 2003. From what
I can determine, the Gateway Services for NetWare and
Client Services for Netware functionality has been
replaced by MSDSS. Could someone please validate this for
me?
Also, the customer has a question regarding scheduling
resources such as conference rooms, projectors, etc. Will
they be able to schedule these resources from both
GroupWise and Exchange 2003? Thanks in advance for any
assistance.

Offline Address Book Sync error
I moved my Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2003 and all went well except
for the users on Outlook 2003 who are using a cached profile. When they go
to sync they get an error: Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error
(0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.' and
under the "Sync Issues" folder they get the error: Microsoft Exchange
offline address book 0X8004010F
Could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this?

Migration - elimininating 5.5 server
I've got several KBs working with including 189286, 152959, 822450, which
gets confusing. Single 5.5 server in site to one Ex2003 server in same site.
On test network, I moved all user mailboxes from our one 5.5 server to a
2003 server and will do same for public folders, then change DL expansion
server to be the 2003 server. Do I just leave the 5.5 System Attendant
mailbox and the mailbox created for the IMS on the 5.5 server?
Then, is this correct order: (simultaneously, adjust public MX records with
ISP)
1. Move site folders (OAB, Schedule + Free/Busy info and org forms)
2. Move site connectors and wait for replication to complete
a. Connectors to the other 5.5 sites
b. Schedule + Free/Busy Agent
3. Change Bridgehead Server
4. Recalculate routing for 2003 to send/receive internet mail.
5. Stop the 5.5 services.
6. Wait a while (how long??) to verify no problems.
7. Use 5.5 Admin program to delete 5.5 server from 2003 Admin Group.
8. Do the ADC, Config CA_SRS_Server_Name, Replicate Now procedure, wait for
replication to occur.
9. Run 5.5 setup and choose Remove All.
btw, I can't remove (shut down) the 5.5 server totally as it is a BDC
running DHCP and WINS and I still need to migrate those to 2003.

OAB Version 3a folder missing from Exchange site
We have recently added an Exchange 2003 server, into our native Exchange
2000 site.
However, upon doing some reading about some Offline Address Book errors we
had been having, I've found that apparently we didn't get an OAB Version 3a
folder generated upon adding the Exchange 2003 Server to the site.
Replication for the OAB 2 folder appears to be happening as expected, but
the OAB Version 3a folder which will support the new Unicode cached mode,
isn't there.
Is there a way I can force generate an OAB version 3a folder onto our
Exchange 2003 Server?
