Hi all
I have a W2k E2k all patches, single server setup.
We now have another good spec server that will be added to the network, plan
is to install Win2003 and Exchange 2003 on it, with it being domain
controller as well.
We have already installed Windows 2003 on the new server, joining it to the
existing AD. Next step is to install exchange 2003 on it to join the same
Exchange organization. Then we plan to move mailboxes from the old Win2k/E2k
server to the new W2k3/E2k3 server.
And after that, we want to scrap the old W2k/E2k server, and rebuild it.
But the basic idea is to migrate from old low spec W2k/E2k server to new
good spec W2k3/E2k3 server. I have following plan in mind.
1. Install W2k3 on new server, join to the existing domain with it being DC.
2. Install E2k3 on the new server.
3. Move mailboxes to new server.
4. Scrap the old w2k/E2k server and rebuild it to W2k3 server, DC.
This will have a phase where, the new W2k3/E2k3 server will be the only
server on the network.
To do this, what issues I need to address, before I can scrap the old
server?
I know basic stuff like making the new exchange server to be the master
server in the routing group.
But is there anything else that I need to have a look at before I scrap the
old server?
Please reply.
