I now have all my servers at 2000. As well as other
servers I have one Exchange 2000 server and 4 remote 5.5
servers. What issues will I have if I ugrade the Exchange
2000 server to OS 2003 then Exchange 2003. Will it still
talk to the 5.5 servers with ADC or will the connections
have to be recreated. Also will the PDC roles as well as
schema need to be on the 2003 server. Also after this
upgrade I will go to each remote site and upgrade 5.5 to
2003. The OS may stay at 2000. Will this cause a problem
in the domain. What other issues may I see.
Thanks for any infoe you have.

The ADC service(s) will have to be upgraded to 2003 version prior to
deploying Exchange 2003 (this is covered in deployment tools) and that will
upgrade the existing connection agreements.

Exchange 2000 won't run on a Windows 2003 server - so you will have to
upgrade from Exchange 2000 to 2003 first on the box, then do the OS.

Schema roles don't need to be on the Exchange server, only contactable -
never have had to be on the server.

Finally, You can't in-place upgrade from 5.5 to 2000 - you will have to
swing upgrade those to another box.

Hi Mark
you said exchange 2000 doesn't not supported on windows 2003 therefore before the upgrade you must upgrade exchange 2000 to exchange 2003 then OS to Windows 2003.

how about Active directory ? i have one manager does not want to upgrade to windows 2003 active directory and others wanted to.

if we stay with windows 2000 active directory we will not have features of RPC over HTTP, mobile devices and improvement GC replication. what else we not taking advantage if we stay 2000 AD ?
