    - How-To display Company Name in SMTP From Field I was wondering if there is anyway in Exchange Server 2003, to display the company name in a userâ??s From field when they send an email outside the Exchange Organization? For example, say Jane Doe is an employee of ACME, Co. Is there a way to make her SMTP From address field show, Jane Doe (ACME, Co.) when she sends an email? Right now when my Exchange Server 2003 sends an email outside our Organization, it is just displaying the users First and Last name. I have already gone into Active Directory and updated the display name to include our company for all of our users. However, only users within our Exchange environment see the change (ie. Jane Doe (ACME, Co.)). When users within our Exchange environment send an email to GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or whatever email service, the From field is still just showing their first and last name (ie. Jane Doe).     - HT Connectors When you introduce the first Hub Transport server into an Exchange 2003 organization, do you need to also create a Send Connector to the internet or establish a routing group connector back to the Exchange 2003 routing Group? I was under the impression this was done for you when you provide the name of the Exchange 2003 server during the initial install. During transition times, I want Exchange 2007 servers to route email off of the existing connectors created in the 2003 routing groups. I do not want to create addtional outbound send connectors until I decommission the 2003 environment. Can routing work this way? Where 2007 piggy backs off 2003.     - Exchange 2003/2007 co-existence and Internet mail flow. We currently have a single Exchange 2003 Server in single AD forest/domain/site. We'd like our Exchange 2007 server to co-exist with our current Exchange 2003 server. So while we test and configure Exchange 2007, most mailboxes will remain on Ex2003 while some beta testers mailboxes have been migrated to Ex2007. Exchange 2003 users will need to continue to send/receive emails normally and access their mailboxes remotely via OWA and ActiveSync and the new Exchange 2007 beta users should be able to send/receive while we also setup remote access to 2007 OWA (SSL), ActiveSync (SSL) and Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) for them. Our firewall filters and forwards incoming SMTP and HTTP (OWA) traffic to our Exchange 2003 server. We'd also like Internet mail to flow directly to the Exchange 2007 server so I understand we'll need to add a * Send Connector and then allow Anonymous connections to the Receive connector. - First of all, is this scenario possible? - If so, after creating the new send connector and modifying the receive connector to allow anonymous connections on Exchange 2007 do I just need to update our firewall to forward SMTP and HTTPS (OWA SSL) traffic to the new Exchange 2007 Server in addition to our current Exchange 2003 box? Or will this cause mail flow loops? I'm trying to understand how incoming/outgoing SMTP/OWA traffic is routed when a Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2003 Server co-exists. - Also, do I need to change any of the connector settings on the the Exchange 2003 Server?     - HT and Exchange 2003 Interoperability I am running Exchange 2003 and transitioning my organization to Exchange 2007. I have already installed the CAS servers, applied SP1 and now trying to install the Hub Transport Servers. Questions: 1. Does the HT require SMTP to be installed? 2. I receive an error message when I apply SP1 stating that the installation could not find a SMTP connector for *.*. or SMTP service.     - Edge Transport Server Role in DMZ I am new to Exchange, so I am trying to learn Exchange 2007 as I go, so any information is greatly appreciated. I am in the process of putting my Edge Transport Server Role Server in my DMZ. My DMZ is one subnet, but I have seen some information that suggests the Edge Transport Server have two NICs and the appropriate send and receive connectors be on the appropriate NIC.     - Shared Mailboxes on Exchange 2007 Hi there, We're in the process of moving our Exchange 2000 users over to our new Exchange 2007 server (fully patched). Everything is going smoothly but I'm not sure what the best approach is to move the shared mailboxes over. I realize that Microsoft is 'de-emphasizing' shared mailboxes in Exchange 2007 but we still have approximately 50 of these mailboxes which we will need to keep on the new server (at least temporarily). The permissions on these existing mailboxes are messy. Each of these mailboxes has a lot of different user accessing them (full mailbox/send access) & I want clean it up on the new server. I'd like to know the following: 1- Is it possible to a) create a security group, b) add the users to it, & c) grant full mailbox/send access to the security group(s) using the 'Add-ADPermission -ExtendedRights Send-As' & 'Add-MailboxPermission -AccessRights FullAccess' commands from the power shell? 2- How are other people managing shared mailboxes on Exchange 2007?     - Exchange Installation Errors with W2K legacy DC I am installing Exchange 2007 in an Active Directory 2003 infrastructure which meets all the prerequisites. Unforunately, I have a few 2000 domain controllers, however, I also have W2K3 w\ Sp2 servers in that Site. I am receiving the following installation errors when trying to install the CAS. Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:02 Client Access Role Prerequisites Failed Error: Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Domain Controller 'XXX.om' Operating System version is 5.0 (2195) Service Pack 4. The minimum version required is 5.2 (3790) Service Pack 1. Elapsed Time: 00:00:02 We received this same error when we did the schema and domain prep. The workaround was to pass the /DomainController parameter Are there any workarounds for the installation as I WANT TO USE the GUI and not have to script the installation.     - Exchange Migration Speed Hello, We are migrating exchange from one Exchange 2003 cluster in domain abc.com to a Exchange 2003 server in xyz.com. Our plan is to export the larger than 2 GB mailboxes using Outlook due to the 2 GB PST limit using exmerge (using exmerge for all of the rest). The old server is at our colo and we will be using exmerge to create the PST's on a USB HD and then bring the HD to our "new" facility and import the PST's there. Is there any way to make exmerge faster? Is there any util out there to do this in a more efficient way? Would a NAS device be faster than USB?     - Splitting up GAL's I host email for about 6 different facilities all with unique domain names. Right now, there's one GAL with everyone in it. I want to setup a unique GAL for each hosted site. Does anyone have a concise, step by step directions on how to setup individual GAL's for each hosted domain within Exchange?     - Password Expiration Notification We host email several site remote offices. Does anyone know how to get Exchange / AD to notifiy exclusive RPC over HTTPS users that there password is expiring? As it is now, I have to set all of the passwords for these users to never expire because there is no way that I know of to have Exchange / AD notifiy the RPC users that their password will expire.     - Rebuild OAB Hi In ESM, when Rebuild the address list (under Recipients | Offline Address Lists | Default Offline Address List), a prompt says: "This operation rebuilds the Offline AddressList....Depending on the number of recipients in the domain, this could take several hours." When I click Yes to continue, the prompt went away. Does that mean the rebuild has finished ? Or, does it start in the background until who knows when ?     - Exchange 2007 --> Exchange 2007 Forest migration I see there are a couple of discussions concerning Exchange migrations from one AD Forest to another, but I canâ??t find any that specifically discuss moving the mailboxes from one AD Forest with Exchange 2007 to another AD Forest. Unfortunately, we have 2 AD 2003 Forests where Exchange 2007 and user accounts (user accounts used to access Exchange) in one forest, Forest "A" and all other resources (duplicate user accounts, machine accounts (users workstations), Citrix, File Servers etc...) are in another 2003 Forest, Forest "B". It has been decided that we will use domain B only and so Exchange will need to be deployed in to domain B using the same SMTP domain. This site http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/02/430289.aspx points out the move-mailbox command in ESM and lays out a basic process for actually moving mailboxes, but I would like to take a step back run some thoughts on the overall process by this group. I will leave the BES 4.1 discussion out of this. 1. Build out a new Exchange server in domain B. Obviously use different IP address, different server name, but same SMTP domain defined in Exchange. 2. Use ADMT to move all dist lists, contact records and mailboxes from the old server in domain A to the new server in domain B. 3. Use the move-mailbox command to move all mailboxes over to the new Exchange server. 4. Update external DNS to reflect new Exchange IP. 5. Confirm Exchange services (OWA etc) are functioning correct on the new system. 6. Update Outlook clients with the new Exchange Server name. 7. Perform cleanup of old system and decommission it. What am I overlooking here? I know I need to further develop each step, but I am just defining the general steps at this point.     - Exchange installation, can't recieve external mail. Hi I am currently having problems setting up exchange to recieve email form external addresses. I'am using clean install of sbs server. And have a very basic test configuration of exchange with the following. Recipient policies, added @mycompany.com to the default policy. Virtual default server for SMTP-> Properties-> General. Send a copy of Non-Delivery report to:me@me.com Virtual default server for SMTP -> smtp -> access -> relay retrictions- > i have allow all computers the autheticate tick box. I can telnet into both port 25 and 110, externally and can send out email out. I can also sens/recieve internally. I don't think it is a mx dns issue as I had a test unix server working correctly.     - Exchange server address list service failed to respond Hi, We have a Windows 2003 R2 32 bit domain controller and a Windows 2003 R2 64 bit member server. We installed Exchange 2007 on the 64 bit memberserver. Everything went fine, upgraded to Exchange SP1. Yesterday we experimented with importing a *.pst. We created a user, setup outlook 2003, imorted the *.pst. Worked like a charm. We could use outlook and owa worked fine. Today we restarted the exchange server and wanted to create new users/mailboxes. But everytime we get the error "The exchange server address list services failed to respond. This could be because of an address list or email address policy configuration error." There are NO errors in the eventlogs, creating a user in AD works but when we want to create a new mailbox for that user we get the same error. I have tested this same setup at home a few weeks ago, created several users, no problems. So after getting home today i started this setup to find out if i could solve the problem. And what happens, i get exactly the same errors and are not able to create a mailbox. At this moment i have no clue so if anyone out there could point me in the right direction..........     - Sizing Help I need some guidance. We are a new shop that has no infrastructure yet. I'm going to be brave and build out a 2008 network and would like to use Exchange. I've downloaded and used the exchange sizing calculator but still have some questions. I'm only planning on having around 75 mailboxes that I think I will limit out to 2GB each. My question is about the LUN requirements. I'm a bit confused in this area. My backup strategy is to use eVault (Online version). The LUN design says 2 LUN / Backup set which I don't understand. Then the tool talks about having two Databases, DB1 and DB2 that as I understand it hold the actual mailbox data. They split to stay withing Microsofts 100GB database size recommendation. Then there are two SG (Storage Groups? Is that rigth?) that I think hold the logs, correct? Those are sized at 250GB each. So do I split out the DB and SG on seperate LUNs? Do each DB and SG need their own LUN? Does anyone know if the sizes here represent a fully utilized system? Seems like a lot of space being used by Exchange iteself as 2GB per mailbox only requires 150GB of storeage. What am I missing? Thank you for any advise on this. Steve. Tag: SP1 upgrade Tag: 165036

    - Migrating public folders from 2003 to a 2007 CCR I've been setting up our mailbox server cluster (CCR) today. Setup created the Public Folder database when I installed the clustered mailbox roles, but as I was looking through some of the info, saw that while you can have a public folder store on a CCR cluster, it can't replicate with anything else. My question is when we're ready to migrate off of the 2003 box, what's the best way to get the public folders over to the 2007 environment? Originally, I was going to set up the 2003 store to replicate all folders to the 2007 store, then when all the copies were on the new server, re-home the folders and turn off the replicas on the 2003 server. In the mean time, I can leave the PF database on the 2003 server, but I assume I would need to set the 2007 mailbox stores to point to the 2003 public folder store for the user mailboxes, correct? One minute users can open Outlook and connect to exchange, the next they can't.... Resetting the network connection and simply pinging the DC seems to resolve the problem temporarily. dcdiag results: Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\MHDC Starting test: Connectivity The host 45b9f6e2-5f64-4aac-b689-8e9f5af0f55e._msdcs.mullenlaw.com coul d not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc Although the GUID DNS Name (45b9f6e2-5f64-4aac-b689-8e9f5af0f55e._msdcs.X) could not be resolved, the server name (mhdc.X) resolved to IP address (192.168.10.6) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is registered correctly with the DNS server. ......................... MHDC failed test Connectivity Checking the DNS server, there is a CNAME entry there.     - Strange behaviour Having a 5 user license, I have trouble connecting to the exchange server by mobile. I am trying to set up a new device but cannot get it to work. The error message that I receive on the Palm is: "There was a problem syncing messages. The server did not let you make a connection. Check the network security settings and try again".     - Exchange Database Storage Design I'm in the process of implementing Exchange 2007 for 1500 users. Each user will have a 1GB mailbox. Storage will be located on a SAN. What is the recommended number of databases per LUN? One database per LUN? Is it best to combine databases on one LUN? What is a recommended database per LUN ratio?     - "sidebyside" errors in event log on new Exch 2007 CAS/HUB server Well I've FINALLY got our first Exchange 2007 installation (hub/CAS) into our organization. I was a little nervous about the possibility of disrupting our Exchange 2003 internal and internet mail, but everything worked perfectly. However, in the new server, I'm occasionally seeing some errors in the system log from the "sidebyside" system. It starts out with one or two error 32: "Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system." Then it will have one or more error 59: "Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system." Or: "Generate Activation Context failed for C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_6E02DFE5\MFC80U.DLL. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system." The system is Exchange 2007 SP1 Enterprise, with Windows 2003 Enterprise sp2.     - namespace and SSL certificate I am trying to get a SSL certificate installed to hopefully help resolve connectivity issues with pop3 and to eliminate the warning when ppl use owa. The question I have is with our namespace. (names are adjusted for this example) The server is exchangmail.domain.local. I have a forward lookup setup at our isp for exchange.domain.com which goes to our IP address where the firewall allows traffic for SMTP and POP through to the exchange server's IP address. When setting up the certificate is there going to be an issue since the server's name is not actually exchange.domain.com? Set up replication of all public folders. 3. Moved one mail box from the Exchange 2003 server to the Exchange 2007 server. 4. Confirmed that the user can send and receive e-mail (he can). That brings me to today. The steps I see I have left are: 5. Finish moving the rest of the mail boxes over to the Exchange 2007 server. 6. Decommissioning the existing 2003 server...is there anything to this step other than going into add/remove programs and uninstalling Exchange 2003? 7. Removing the machine from the domain. 8. Rebuilding the new machine 9. Adding Exchange 2007 10. Set up replication of all public folders. 11. Moved all mail boxes from the tem Exchange 2007 server to the permanent Exchange 2007 server. 12. I've been reading the SP1 documentation, looks like the CAS/Hub Transport
server first for upgrade, then from our clustered mailbox servers, make sure
the node being upgraded is in passive mode? Once the passive node is
upgraded, then do the same with other node.
