E2K3 Installation: W2K3 Services
The E2K3 deployment guide reads the following. The 1st
part says the list of required components and the 2rd
part says install only the needed services.
I don't know why do I get confused, but we just install
the services that we needed only. Is that right?
*******************
Exchange 2003 Setup requires that the following
components and services be installed and enabled on the
server:
. .NET Framework
. ASP.NET
. Internet Information Services (IIS)
. World Wide Web Publishing Service
. Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service
. Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service
********************
Important When you install Exchange on a new server,
only the required services are enabled. For example, Post
Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Internet Message Access
Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), and NNTP services are
disabled by default on all of your Exchange 2003 servers.
You should enable only services that are essential for
performing Exchange 2003 tasks. Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114805
Reverse Lookup
Hi,
I have noticed that more and more domains are using
reverse lookup for authentication of emial. What do you
guys think? Also how do I add an entry for our company's
domain for reverse lookup so we don't run into this
problem with trying to access others domains?
Thanks,

/forestprep /domainprep on DC?
I am getting ready to install Exchange 2K3 on Exchange
5.5 site on W2K3 member server.
Should I run the 'setup /forestprep'
and 'setup /domainprep' on the W2K3 DC and then come back
to the member server to run exchange setup?
Where do you run the deployment tools?
Do we run /forestpre /domainprep thru the deployment
tools or just run from exchange CD?
Please help me.
Thank you in advance.

Migration from 5.5 to 2003 urgent message
Installed new Win 2003 server into an active directory domain. Still have 1 nt4 exchange 5.5 server. Will be using the move mailbox method to migrate users to Exchange 2003 on the new server then remove the 5.5 server from the site
What will happen to client rules. Lots of our users have rules setup in their mailboxes for various reasons. Also what will happen to permissions on Public folders
Lastly I have conflicting information about distribution lists. Do they migrate properly

Outlook Web Access, Prompt at Logoff or link in email
I was getting the logon prompt when i would click Logoff or if i
clicked a link inside an email. Entering credentials would work fine.
In IIS manager i went to exchweb\bin\usa\logoff.asp and under

Providing a remote Exchange Solution
I am looking for an Exchange Solution. We have a couple of small clients who
cannot afford their own Exchange server and maintain it so we would like to
offer them this service. I have a few questions before I feel comfortable.
Right now this is the status of our Exchange server 2003:
--Behind a PIX 501 Firewall
--Hosting two domains
--OWA access works fine
--Using GFI MailEssentials to filter spam
Now I have a lot of questions, they all need to be a part of our solution.
Sorry for all of them.
1) I want to sync their current accounts/PSTs with the Exchange server so
all contacts, emails, etc are on the server and available in the OWA as well
as in Outlook. I can only do this when I unplug the firewall, otherwise it
does not find the server. I thought I read somewhere that I can hard code
ports Exchange uses on the actual server in the registry, but that was
referring to the 5.5 version. Is this the same in the 2003 environment? If
so, are there a specific amount I should open, or any static ones already
defined to be opened as well? If I am way off, how can I allow this traffic
through? Currently only the pop3 and smtp ports are open, but creating an
Exchange account for the Outlook client cannot find the server.
2) When the PIX is turned off, I can hit the Exchange and login with
user/pw/domain. But I have to do this every time. Is there a way to automate
this login so each user doesn't have to enter it every time, just the first
time on their desktop computers?
3) Calendar sharing. I see that you can only add/edit others calendars if
you are actually viewing through the Outlook program (Don't like that, any
reason why?) When a user selects a person they would like to share their
calendar with, it shows users created in Active Directory for both domains.
I would like it so clients from one company, can only see their users, and
not all users. Also, clients who won't use the calendar sharing feature
(probably not many) I can just let them download emails via pop3 from the
Exchange, but those whos Outlook client will be configured for Exchange
server leads me to my next point.
4) Bandwidth. Outlook doesn't open instantly, and I can understand that
since they are used to the PST locally whereas they are going to get their
data from our server through the internet. Does anyone here provide the kind
of solution we are going to offer our clients? What kind of slowdown/lag do
you experience in an environment of say 50-100 users (could potentially grow
to 400 if we can give them what they want). Is it just when it is initially
opened or does sending/receiving move extremely slow as well? We plan on
having two dedicated T1 lines for this one server. Right now I would imagine
it seems slow because we are in a testing environment and not in production
yet, but what, if any, kinds of slowdowns can we expect?
5) We would like it so they have their own company name instead of having to
use ours for the OWA. So far, I have it setup as
http://mail.ourcompany.com/clientA
http://mail.ourcompany.com/clientB
Any way around this so it is:
http://mail.clientA.com/exchange
http://mail.clientB.com/exchange
If the above cannot be done, is there anything else I can do?
Thank you for any help you can provide. Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114793
ADC Tools can't be run with customized matching rules
Hi
In a new Administration Group within an existing organisation, I'm installing EX2k3 in an existing mixed Ex5.5 and Ex2k environment. The environment has existed for over a year and the original ADC's have been in place from the begining. I have updated all the ADC's and attempted to install the First Ex2k3 server and receive the following message in the ExDeploy.log file -
Exchange installation (Tools run during setup
- Active Directory Connector User Replication Check (ADCUserCheck
ADCUserCheck will verify if it has previously been run as recommended. If this tool has not been run prior to setup, Exchange installation will fail
Error: ADC Tools were not run in your organization
- Active Directory Connector Object Replication Check (ADCObjectCheck
ADCObjectCheck will verify if it has previously been run as recommended
Error: ADCObjectCheck was not run in your organization
Not wishing to run this tool but it seems it must be completed to go further I went to one of the DC's running the ADC and initiated the tools, I then get this message
Error: The Data Collection tool found customized object matching rules in the ADC Management properties. ADC Tools cannot be used when customized matching rules exist
I'm happy with this message as I never wanted to run the Tools anyway, but I feel I'm in a "chicken and egg" situation I can't install Ex2k3 without running the tools and I can't run the tools because of the required customizations.....
I can't find anything about this on Technet and wonder if maybe there's a switch or an entry that can be made bypass this ADC Tools requirement and allow the install? The ExDeploy

Can't send e-mail to outside domains with Exchange 2003
Can anyone help?
I have a new installation of Exchange 2003 on a Win 2003 server. All seems
to work fine except sending mail outside of the domain. Receiving is fine
and sending to users on the same domain is fine. However, sending outside of
the domain causes a bounceback (immediately!) with 'E-mail account does not
exist' or something similar. The DNS seems to be just fine.
Very puzzled. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Exchange 5.5 migration to Exchange 2003
I have Exchange 5.5 SP4 running on a 2000 Server with SP4. It is a
member server in a Server 2003 AD running in native 2000 mode(I have a
2000 Server DC). I have upgraded the Domain from NT4.
I have been reading the articles about migrating to a new server and
want to make sure I understand some things.
I have not installed the ADC. Is that a problem? Everything seems to
be working fine to this point.
Can I do this gradually? Can I move a few mailboxes over to the new
server to test?
I want to put the new Exchange server behind ISA Server. When would I
do the server publishing in ISA-before or after removing the Exchange
5.5 server?

Active Directory 2000 to 2003 Update (With Exchange 2000 installed)
Hi.
I have a Windows 2000 (SP4) Active Directory (AD) with Exchange 2000 (SP3)
installed on all DCs.
I made a lab scenario for test the Windows 2003 Upgrade proccess. I execute
ADPREP in a Windows 2000 DC and then promote (DCPROMO) a new Windows 2003
installation in the existing AD.
When I run ADPREP /FORESTPREP and ADPREP /DOMAINPREP every go OK.
The problem is that KB314649 "Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep Command
Causes Mangled Attributes in Windows 2000 Forests That Contain Exchange 2000
Servers" said that I will find duplicates attributes that I did not found in
the lab upgrade
Is this possible ? (because the service pack) or I made something wrong

Moving mailboxes from 5.5 to 2003 and getting the user permissions
I'm having some troubles moving my Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to my 2003
server and getting the mailbox permissions correct. Maybe I'm missing
something in the process.
Here's what I have.
2003 Exchange server joined to a NT 4 domain site. (One server each -
same org).
ADC connector with 2 way connection agreement between the 2003 AD and
5.5 Directory. The amilbox information is replicated to AD in the form
of the disabled user accounts in the "Recipients" folder.
I Use Active Directory Migration Tool to move the user to the Active
Directory, then ADClean to merge the Exchange information from the
disabled user to the migrated user. Then I use Exchange system manager
to move the mailbox from the 5.5 server to the 2003 server.
This is OK, with one problem. The resulting user does not seem to
have apropriate rights to their own mailboxes! WhenI go to a migrated
user and check out Exchange Advanced - Mailbox Rights, the user is not
in the list of objects having rights to the mailbox (and they cannot log
in with OL). The account from the old domain is there with rigths to
the mailbox, but not the new one. And "Self" isn't there either, like it
apears it should when I create a "native" 2003 mailbox-enabled user.
Am I doing something wrong? Wrong order? missing a step?
I've been doing some reading and playing with a number of different
ways to do this and different orders of events, but I can't seem to get
it to come out the way I want it.
Any suggestions would be apreciated!

Relaying Denied for POP3
Have 3 E2k3 boxes: E1, E2, and E3. E1 is SMTP connector,
E3 is front-end, E1 and E2 are mailbox servers. Have ISA
2k box, SMTP published to E1. MX points to E1.
When connecting via POP3 externally, can download. But on
sending, get 550.5.7.1 "Unable to Relay". I have
Authentication on all three SMTP boxes set to Anon, Basic,
and Integrated.
Have changed these Auth settings, to no avail. When I
turn off Anon, mail stops flowing between them (internal
mail).
Even in Outlook, I set to "log into sending server first",
no luck.
As soon as I turn on open-relay on E1, it works. OWA
works fine.

Pub Folder Calendar & Summer Time problem
Hi All,
Forgive me if this is a simple question, however shared
Calendar folders in Public Folders seem to have a problem
with DST changeover. The issue is that all appointments
that have been made by a client computer *prior* to the
switch to DST later skew forward by an hour when your
client computer then moves into DST time.
I can't for the life of me figure out the mechanism of
this problem as it doesn't occur in private calendars or
on email timestamps, and frankly I would have thought all
such things would be tracked against UTC time + offset.
Server is Win2003, Exchange2003, timezone is GMT + auto
adjust for Daylight Savings Time and sync'd with an NTP
service.
Can anyone shed any light for me?

HELP! MTA Stack and IS won't start
I have a Windows 2003 Server standard that I installed Exchange 2003

First off, before trying to implemement Exchange in the live environment I

now have an HP Proliant Server I have installed it on, and for the life of
me I cannot get the MTA Stack and Information Store services to start.
Here are the messages from my Event log;
Process MAD.exe (PID=1792). All global catalog servers in use are not
responding: xxxx.xxxx.com
There is not enough Performance Monitor memory to display the MTA
connections information. Stop attached Performance Monitors and re-start
the MTA [BASE MAIN BASE 1] (14)
A fatal error occurred reading a value from the directory. No MTA name was
found. Contact Microsoft Technical Support. [MTA MAIN BASE 1 12] (16)
The MAD monitoring thread was unable to read its configuration from the DS,
error '0x800040005'.
I should also note that I have run dcdiag and netdiag and both tests pass
and have zero errors except for dcdiag which fails systemlog because of the
above formentioned events in the logfile.
I'm at a loss on how to fix this... any help is greatly appreciated!!!
thanks.

Migration to W2K3 and E2K3
I have an existing NT4 Domain with Exchange 5.5. I have
set up a W2K3 domain with Exchange 2003. I have created a
trust between the two domains. I want to migrate users
over from the old domain to the new domain. Both NT and
Exchange accounts. I want to migrate the users over in 3
months.
My problem is, that since it is two different mail
organizations, is there a way to:
1. Sych up the calenders from both ORGS.
I know there is the INTERORG replication tool
that replicates free/busy, but I need to open a migrated
users calender. It won't allow me to open it because I do
not have permission.
2. When I send meeting notices to users in W2K3 domain,
they recieve it as an email instead of a meeting request.
If someone can help out I would really appreciate it.

How To: RPC over HTTP
Greetings,
I am trying to setup RPC over HTTP/HTTPS in a test
environment. So far all the directions I have found have
not led me to success. I have several questions.
1. Can it be done with only 1 exchange server, or is a
FE/BE configuration required?
2. Can someone tell me where I went wrong with the
following configuration?
I have a router with a static public IP, it forwards port
25, 80, & 443 to 192.168.0.108. The router does not have
a DMZ port.
.108 is configured as a front end server
.107 is a back end server and thus holds the mailboxes
.105 & .106 are my domain controllers/global catalogs &
CA's
I have tested mail flow and OWA over SSL successfully. I
then create a Outlook profile to connect to Exchange while
on that subnet. I created a second profile to use RPC
over HTTPs setting the Exchange proxy server to
exchange.domain.com. Note that exchange.domain.com
resolves publicly to my IP. I take the PC home and try to
connect using the RPC profile. It doesn't connect. Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114750

Outlook Web Access Help
I have just setup and installed Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. The
installation completed fine and there are no problems with AD. I have setup
several users mailboxes, however, I am having problems accessing them using
Outlook Web Access.
I have checked each user's properties in AD Users and Computers and can
confirm that Web access is ENABLED. My Exchange Server is called UC-EXCH.
When I go to a web browser and type in: http://UC-EXCH/exchange/username, I
am prompted to enter the user's credentials (Username and AD password).
After entering the details 3 times, a message appears in my browser stating
"Error: Access is Denied."
Any idea why this is happening? I thought OWA was enabled by default and
that I didn't need to conduct any additional configurations in Exchange.
I have also been unable to find any good knowledge base articles on detailed
steps on how to configure Exchange 2003 for OWA.
Can anyone help? Any suggestions, comments or advice welcome.

OWA 2003 installation best practices

should I leave OWA in its own application pool and have my intranet in

Outgoing SMTP Mail
Hi,
I am currently in the process of a migration from 5.5 to 2003 in our Chicago
office. After adding the 2003 server to a existing 5.5 site we began moving
various mailboxes. Everything is working well so far except I noticed our
SMTP mail from 5.5 users is not going out the SMTP connector on the local
2003 server? We traced it going to another site in Singapore via the MTA
site connector and then using the 5.5 IMS on their bridgehead server. All
inbound SMTP does come into the 2003 server and then via X.400 transfers to
the users on the 5.5 box. It is just outbound SMTP that routes half-way
around the world before finding an IMS to send it. I have re-calculated the
routing in 5.5 and can see the 2003 SMTP connector in the 5.5 admin console
but no luck?
Once I move a 5.5 user to the 2003 server it starts to use the local SMTP
server properly. Ultimately we could just move the rest of the 5.5 users but
we will not be able to fully complete the migration for another month.
All the CA's and SRS are running properly.
Thanks for your help.

NT/5.5 to Win2k/Exch2003
I currently have Exchange 5.5 on a WinNT machine. I have a
new server with Win2K that I want to install Exchange 2003
on. What is the best way to do this, how do I move the
stuff from 5.5 (mailboxes, etc.) to the new machine?
I have very little Exchange experience. Thanks for any
help.

SMTP - NSLookup Timing Out on Some
Hi All,
I have configured our SMTP Virt server to use DNS lookup
to resolve recipient names. I add the forwarders under
DNS. Now most emails are making it out but some are not.
They are timing out when I try to use NSLookup on them.
What should I look for to fix this? And can I add more
DNS servers to better help find the recipients? Any
Ideas?
Thanks,

Multiple name space OWA + Form based authentication
I have set up my Exchange 2003 server and got OWA working for multiple name
space (xxx.com, yyy.com). users with xxx.com addresses would go to
https://company/exchange; yyy.com would go to https://company/yyy.
Then I turned on form based authentication. xxx.com users OWA works
flawlessly. However, after yyy.com users logged off (or session timed out),
they cannot use the logon page to logon again as it defaults back to
https://company/exchweb/bin/auth/owalogon.asp?reason=1. xxx.com users can
logon from that page, but yyy.com users cannot.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I migrated from 5.5 to ex 2003. I was goign throught he steps of removing the exchange 5.5 server and at the part to delete directory replication connectors and I deleted the ADNAutoDRC connector. The note in the microsoft guide that said not to delete it was below the part that said to delete all of them.
Is this bad? What do I need to do? Please hel Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114711
"The srs contains no home-mdb (homeMdb"
I just installed Exchange 2003 on a (new) Windows 2003
server. Ultimately I wish to move users from Exchange 5.5
on an NT server (and decommission that box).
After the Exchange installation, the e2kdsinteg.log file
shows the following errors:
"The srs contains no home-mdb (homeMdb"
"The srs contains no home-mta (homeMta)"
"The public mdb contains no home-mta (homeMta)"
"The system attendant contains no home-mdb (homeMdb)"

I am able to create a new mailbox, but am not able to move
anyone over from the old server. When I attempt to move
someone, the fields for the new server and location of the
new mailbox store are grayed out and not available.
I can't find any useful info on the errors above. Can
anyone shed some light? Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114709
LDAP & Schedule +
We currently run Exchange 5.5 in a Windows NT domain. We
have users who do not have Windows NT accounts and who do
not have Exchange 5.5 mailboxes. These users are,
however, able to use LDAP on port 389 to access the global
address list and other address book views that have been
created. We plan to migrate from Exchange 5.5 and Window
NT to Windows 2003 Active Directory and Exchange 2003.
Q: Will we still be able to provide LDAP access to these
same address book views to users who are not part of the
Active Directory or Exchange 2003, similar to how we did
with Exchange 5.5 in the Windows NT domain?
We also have users who use Exchange 5.5 and use Schedule+
for shared calendars.
Q: Will these users still be able to use their Schedule+
calendars against their Exchange 2003 mailboxes once they
have been migrated? The problem we have is that we don't
save mail on the server. All mail is saved locally to a
pst on the local desktop, and we could not find a good
method in Exchange 5.5 for using shared Outlook calendars
that didn't entail keeping our user's mail on the server. Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114708
Active Directory Connector
I am bit confused. We are migrating from Exchange 5.5 to
Exchange 2003 and we used the Active Directory Migration
Tool (ADMT) to bring over the users, groups and SID
histories. We believe the next step is to use the ADC
tools.
Q: What exactly do the ADC Tools do? Do they add
Exchange 5.5 mailbox attributes to the Active Directory
Users and groups that were copied to Active Directory? I
am confused the Microsoft Exchange 2003 deployment
(Chapter 4, pg 55) makes the following statement "must use
the ADMT or the user domain upgrade method to add Exchange
5.5 mailbox attributes to the Active Directory Users and
groups that you copied to Active Directory". I thought
this was the function of the ADC tools?
Q: Once I set up the connection agreements, will I be
able to add an NT user account and mailbox in Exchange 5.5
and have that account and mailbox replicate to the Windows
2003-Exchange 2003 Active Directory? I don't understand
what exactly is replicated once these agreements are set-
up?

Sender filtering questioning
1.) Is there anyway to seperate the "Message with Blank Sender" and the
senders manually defined into different folders, When the "Archives Filtered
Messages" is enabled?
Its kind of tough the search through 1000's of emails to find out if 1
person in the list has send email.
2.) Also in the bad mail directory why is 3 files created for 1 bad email,
this is a space hog, Also is there anyway to stop the collection of bad
emails?

Exchange 2003 cluster install
I am creating an active/passive 2 node clustered server. I did the
forestprep and domainprep. When I install the enterprise version of
exch2003 installation, it does not ask me whether I want to install
the cluster aware version what it supposed to ask.
Also, it did not ask me whether I want to join the alrady existing
exchange 2000 organization what I know it should prompt me for. when I
finish with the installation and wait for replication, the server does
not show up in the already existing organization and as a matter of
fact it nowhere shows up. It is scary.
What do I need to do to make this work? Tag: toworrrow is my birthday partymy am go to be 11 year old Tag: 114701
allow relay to 2nd domain
We have an sbs2003 server setup and have just registered a new domain
name. We are trying to figure out how to tell Exchange to relay email
through that domain. Right now it says 'unable to relay for xxx@xxxx.com'

Majordomo type functions in Exchange 2003
Is there any list server functionality in Exchange 2003 such as
Majordomo? The main function would need to be e-mail groups to which
users can subscribe and un-subscribe to these groups.
Any help? If Exchange 2003 cannot do this out-of-the-box, is there
any third party software that can do this that supporst Exchange 2003?
Any help would be great.

Get Digital Signature from Exchange 2003
we recently migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003.
We used the "get digital signature" from Exchange server
in 5.5. We had to install key management to use it. Is
that feature available on Exchange 2K03?

ADC Connection Agreement Wizard
I have a mixed Windows 2000 and NT 4.0 network that I inherited. We
have Exchange 5.5 running on an NT 4 BDC, and there is also an
Exchange 2000 server at a separate site in the domain.
We are preparing to install a new Exchange 2003 server at the main
site and migrate all the users from the Exchange 5.5 server then
decommission the old server.
It doesn't appear that the Exchange 2000 server was joined to the
Exchange 5.5 organization when it was installed because they are
different business units. However, when I try to join the Exchange
2003 server to the Exchange 5.5 organization I get the following error
from the ADC Connection Agreement Wizard:
Error: The organization o=T2 Supply is already installed into this
forest but the configured 5.5 server is a member of organization o=SKC
Communication Products, Inc.. Please choose a 5.5 server in the
correct Org.
T2 Supply is the organization on the Exchange 2000 server, and SKC
Communications Products, Inc. is the Exchange 5.5 organization.
I have already changed the Exchange 5.5 organization to remove the ","
from the name but it hasn't been reflected. Do I need to restart
exchange or the NT 4 server to make this take?
How can I resolve this issue to join the new server to the old
organization? Is it possible to resolve this at this time?
Thanks
