    - Strange ADC Error I am in the process of migrating from Exchange 5.5 SP4 on NT4 SP6 to Exchange 2003 on Win2003. Following through the steps in the ExDeploy wizard (I downloaded the newest version) I have installed the ADC (a;lso the newest version) and made my connections. At this point the Distribution Lists refuse to replicate because ADC thinks there are still users that have not replicated. The errors are two event id 8279's, listed below: ADC could not replicate cn=foo,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=domain,DC=digiconinc,DC=com because it could not convert the object class (Connection Agreement 'Users: domain.digiconinc.com - DOMAIN\digiconinc' #1084) And, ADC could not replicate cn=Recipients,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=domain,DC=digiconinc,DC=com because it could not convert the object class (Connection Agreement 'Users: domain.digiconinc.com - DOMAIN\digiconinc' #1084) The thing is neither of these objects exist is our Active Directory. I've tried even added objects in the Active Directory with the same DN, which replicated correctly, but that changed nothing. I can't figure out were these objects are coming from.     - Rebuilding Exchange 2003 tonight. Plan A. I'm about to go onsite & rebuild a customer's Exchange server. The guy who originally set it up changed the server name as well as the domain name somewhere in the process, so there are dozens of underlying problems and it's amazing their mail is working but not so surprising that IIS and plenty of other things are completely trashed with unresolved SIDs all over the error logs. I plan to simply back up Exchange using Windows Backup (Article ID 258243), document the server name, org info, IP etc. demote it, uninstall Exchange and then format it. I plan to then follow Article ID 273478 to verify that Exchange is fully removed from AD before re-installing Server 2003 on the box, promiting it, then installing IIS, Exchange 03, Server 03 SP1, Exchange 03 SP2 in that order. I've done this before with Exchange 5.5 and 2000, but not 03 yet. I think I can git er done in 6 to 8 hours tonight, barring anything I've missed. Anybody see anything wrong with my plan?     - exchange advanced queue Hello We uninstalled the reliable multicast protocol on our exchange server and as a result the advanced queue stopped working. As a consequence of this none of my users could recieve mail from the outside.     - Exchange 2003 setup failure Installing Exchange 2003 on Win2003 AD domain controller adding to an existing Exchange 5.5 site on seperate server. Setup failed wile installing sub-component Base DAV protocol. Followed the fix according to KB 838176. Tried to finish the install and setup fails with the following: Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the component "Microsoft Exchange": 0XC103FC93 (64659): Could not bind to the Microsoft Exchange Directory server Exch5.5servername. The Microsoft Exchange Server computer does not respond. When I choose a custom install to try to uninstall Exchange2003 I get the following: Microsoft Exchange has an unkown installation problem.     - SMTP ERROR AFTER SP1 INSTALL - HELP After I installed exchange SP1 on my main Exchange server I get an error message when I try to use a program that sends email notifications. The error is Notification options: The message could not be send to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available Now I get email back and forth through the organization and my server out in the regional office was not upgraded to SP1, and I have pointed the program to send email via that server and everything works without a problem, so it seems that once SP1 was intalled something screwed it up where the program can no longer send out notifications.     - Exchange implementation Hello, Got some general exchange questions. I want to use exchange for my email solution. I am looking at a couple senerios for deployment. I want to be able to allow employess to to use OWA. I also want my enviroment to be secure. I am looking at using a front-end back-end solution. From the research I have found it looks like the most secure. I am also looking at just putting the exchange server in the DMZ without the FE-BE solution. If I just put the server in the DMZ what kind of limitations will I have and what kind of risks does that pose for my email service? With OWA will the employess still have and be able to create personnal folders when accessing over the internet? What kind of limitations will we have with the calendar using OWA?     - Moving to SBS - advice Greetings I have decided that Small Business Server 2003 is more "my speed" and therefore I want to move our small business to that platform. Current we are running Standard edition Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. My thought was to setup a new box using SBS with a new domain name [newdomain.local] and make it trusted in the old domain [olddomain.com]. Then will I be able to simply MOVE the mailboxes from the Exchange server in olddomain.com over to the new SBS server in newdomain.local??? Is there a better way to acheive this? Any traps?     - Error installing Hi we are in the process of installing exchange 2003 to an excisting exchange 5.5 environment using the Exchange Server deployment tools. We have run through the various steps, including forest prep and domain prep, which both ran successfully. The next step is to run orgprepcheck which generates the following error in the exdeploy-Progress.log HrOrgCheck (f:\titanium\dsa\src\deploy\dsintegchk\cmdline.cpp:2730). Error code 0XFFFFFFAF(65455). We are running the install on a Windows 2003 SP1 Enterprised edition server. The active directory is Windows 2003 but includes 3 Windows 2000 domain controllers. I cant find any information on the error and don't want to continue with the installation untill I can resolve this to avoid further problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - RPC over HTTP on Exch 2003 SP2 w/ 2003 SP1 behind an ISA 2004 SP1 Firewall Hello All, I have my own offline Windows 2003 stand alone Root CA that has a subordinate Enterprise CA which also happens to be our Active Directory DC all running 2003 SP1. In this environment I am running a seperate Exchange 2003 SP2 server, again on 2003 SP1 and this IIS webserver has been issued a certificate from the Enterprise CA. This cert for which the CN is owa.domainname.com has been applied to the default website, where all of the exchange virtual directories are running. So, this Exchange server is the front and back end server with IIS running the RPC over HTTP proxy. Protecting this environment is the ISA 2004 SP1 firewall on Windows 2003 SP1 with the mail publishing rules already created for SMTP, OWA, and RPC over HTTP. OWA and OMA are working great from the internet through the ISA firewall but I am unable to get RPC over HTTP to work. I have followed several different tutorials online, some of them listed below for reference but none of them seem to address my exact environment (isn't that always the case :) and at this point I'm at a loss. I believe I have the RPC virtual directory setup propperly in IIS because I do see the login behavior from within my LAN as described in the instructions, of course once I am outside of the LAN and crossing over the ISA server it's a bit different. I have the OWA forms based authentication pop up because of the ISA publishing rule and then I recieve a 403 forbidden error in IE right away. I have the outlook client configured w/ the servername.domain.local for the Exchange server name and then in the Exchange Proxy Settings I have the same CN name that is used in the certificate which is owa.domainname.com with mutual authentication selected using the same proxy server name owa.domainname.com and Basic Authentication selected below.     - New Installation Question Regarding MX Hello! I am kinda new to this Exchange software, however, I know that all of you were at some time, so please bear with me! I have set all my personnel up on the exchange server 2003 and all works well internally using outlook 2003, etc. We have our hosting done externally (www.domain.org) I have made a sub-web name for exchange.domain.org I need to know what else I need to change, and where I need the A records and MX to point.     - RAID1 vs RAID10? I'm planning on getting an ML370 to support approx 600 mailboxes (huge variation of size and usage profiles). I was planning on this: 2 x 72gb 15k SCSI hardware RAID1 on Channel A partitioned for OS + Logs 4 x 146gb 10k SCSI hardware RAID10 on Channel B for first storage group and database (still reading up but can't envisage more than 1 SG/database). 1 x 146gb 10k SCSI hot-spare. 1 x 300gb 10k SCSI spindle for NT backup to disk (to then be streamed to tape). I wanted some opinions/thoughts on whether I would be better off considering: 2 x 36gb 15k SCSI hardware RAID1 on Channel A for OS 2 x 36gb 15k SCSI hardware RAID1 on Channel B for Logs 2 x 146gb 10k SCSI hardware RAID1 on Channel B for first storage group and database (seems MS now say RAID1 over RAID5). 1 x 146gb 10k SCSI hot-spare. 1 x 300gb 10k SCSI spindle for backup The server will likely be a dual 3.4ghz 2mb cache Xeon with 4gb RAM. I'm aiming to avoid an external storage cabinet for now, but this way the option is still there in the future if needed.     - Reassigning exchange server from 2 controllers to 1 I have exchange server 2003 on a server with 2 controllers. I am able to ping 1 of the 2 controllers on the external VPN connection, which may control the connection from the exchange server. Where would I change the controller settings to only use the single controller as I think this is the problem that Outlook is encountering.     - Exchange 2003 Setup Fails with Error 0xC103798A Hi. I have a problem which is the same in principle as KB245029. The setup of MS Exchange System Management Tools failed while Configuring registry entries for Exchange System Management Snap-ins with the above result code. The underlying failure seems to be that the command regsvr32.exe -s smtpmgr.dll.dll failed, returning error code 5 (ACCESS IS DENIED). An extract of the setup log appears below. Points to note: 1) Installation was run under Administrator, which is (currently) the only user in this build 2) Earlier dlls in the same installation register OK. 3) Running the same command from the command line works with no errors reported. 4) Tried deleting the dll to force reinstallation; same error occurs. Background: 1) the server was previously Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003 SP2, running as a separate DC 2) the server was demoted to a stand-alone server, and Exchange uninstalled. 3) the server was then (successfully) upgraded to Windows SBS 2003 SP1 4) Exchange 2003 + SP1 was installed. The main part installed without error; only the tools element fails. 5) the error is repeatable. Any suggestion gratefully received.     - Replacing Only Exchange Server I'm replacing my organization's only Exchange Server ('2003). I have built the new Server in parallel to the current Server up to the same build (6.5.7226.0). My plan is to Move everything to the new server this weekend, turn off the old server, assign the new server the IP address that the old one had and create a CName for the old server's host name to alias the new Exchange server's name.     - System Manager Just upgraded to Exch2003 from Exch2002. Server is still running Win2000SP4. I have 2 DC's running Win2003SP1 in Win2003 AD Mode. I cannot install the System Manager on either DC nor any XP workstation. I've read and read until I'm blue in the face.     - Multiple Domain with Multiple Email Address For all you Exchange Expert here my question. I have 2 forest and they is currently a trust between both domains. My question is can I have one Exchange 2003 Server on ABC.com and one Exchange 2003 Server on 123.com. At the same time I can share mailbox resource between both domain. Meaning that if I want to host both domains on ABC.com for both ABC.COM and 123.COM can it be done. I understand that I am limited to 1 Storage group with the Standard Edition while the Enterpise Edition I can host up to 20 different Storage groups. Would I be able to setup accounts for either domains and select their proper email address. Also what if a 3rd domain came into the picture can it be done.     - Migration Dilemma I am migrating my users (300) from ISP POP to inhouse Exchange 2003. What I planned on doing was the following: 1. Setup all users with their Exchange mailboxes 2. Configure their client with Exchange and leave the POP3 as the default transport till I close off the ISP provider 3. Import mail from PST into exchange but continue using POP as main transport as configured on on client PC's The problem I am faced with is this. I have setup all the accounts on Exchange for the users. However everyone is not connected to the Exchange server yet. So the problem is some users somehow are getting mail sent to their mailboxes. They cannot retrieve because they are not setup yet. I can see the messages in their mailboxes on the server. Even though the POP is the default transport method I see exchange is still being used as a transport method as well.     - limit no. of recepients Hello, Using Exchange2003 server I'm trying to limit the amount of recepients I can send via the virtual SMTP to 100. According to the exchange help and what I've read so far, every message with more than 100 recepients will open a new connection to send to the remaining address. Lets se for instance I'm sending an email to 230 people, I understand the exchange sends to 100 of them, opens another connection and sends to the other 100 and then a third connection with 30. In reality, when I try to send to more than 100 recepients I get them all bounced back and in the logs I can see it says "too-many-recepients". Has someone try to do this before or has any idea?     - Mail Connector Question I have 2 exchange 2000 servers, server A and server A. Server A, configured with ip 192.168.0.13, is my main server and sends mails through a relayhost. Server B, configured with ip 192.168.1.10, is at a different location and the 2 offices are connected by 2 routers. They both can see and are replicating. I want to have all mails originating from Server B to use Server A as a smarthost. I configured Server B to use Server A as a smarthost by adding exchange.domain.com in the default smtp delivery option. However, this is not working.     - Exchange POP3 Connector I have set-up the POP3 connector to download mail from an external mail server. The compnay does not host their own domain name and use an outside service. The POP3 connector attaches and downloads the mail fine, but never routes it to the correct exchange mailbox? It just tries to route it to their external mail address. The POP3 connector looks as it would download the mail and route it to the internal Exchange mailbox since you put this info in the configuration for each POP3 user. What am I missing.     - Public folder access problem - Exchange 2000 to 2003 Hi, I successfully migrated all my mailboxes from my old Exchange 2000 server to a new 2003 server. I followed the instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307917 to rehome the public folders. Both servers have been running in parallel for about 3 weeks. My problem is that if I shutdown the old server I can't access a public folder, even though the replication tab says that it is only replicated to the new server.     - Large email problem I have a client that is having problems sending emails that are over 200Kb, smaller emails are being sent and received ok but anything larger is just sitting in the queue. Details: Exchange Server 2003 on a SBS 2003. Tried using both DNS and a smarthost to route mail. As above smaller emails get sent but larger do not There are no message size restrictions on any firewalls or smtp server Message tracking shows that the mailserver of the recipent is contacted ok, but they just do not seem to complete the sending of the email, and retry again and again. The only message I have ever got back is that the connection to the remote server was dropped. Contacted ISP but there are no issues with them or their mail server.     - New Exchange setup We just installled an exchange server. Our email (domain) is hosted elsewhere. I have configured the pop connector to download email and am trying to configure exchange to send smtp out only. My problem: If a local user sends an email to someone in our domain we want the mail to send to our ISP and wait to be downloaded via pop. The resaon is some users are not using exchange and work elsewhere. If I configure a user account with domainname.local as the smtp address then all mail received have a reply to address of user@domainname.local. Since I am sending to user@domainname.com it arrives at our ISP as it should, but the reply to address for the sender is incorrect. If I configure a user with an email address of user@domainname.com then the mail is delivered locally (into exchange) and not sent to our ISP. SO at this point I want our users to have an smtp address of user@domainname.com but when mail is sent to from our office to anyone at our domain I want it to go to our ISP. When creating a new email and clicking on the to: button you are given the option to choose which address book to show names from: It is defaulting to the Global Address List. About a year ago, some outside company brought in a Sun Server and, without my intervention, was able to set up that box to email outside the company a report every week. Most forums have intelligent experienced users to provide insight way beyond the manufacturers own capabilities. But it seems that in this world, there aren't even any users that have any answers. You could use Squirrelmail on a Redhat Linux box. Your success rate would be pretty high. The user community is strong and full of creative solutions. iPlanet makes a good email server too, it will cost a little more than Exchange, but is superior in all respects. Maybe your company should just outsource all your email to a 3rd party and abandon hosting your own mail all together . Have you considered these options ?
