    - OWA 2003 only working internally hie i am having a hard time with my OWA 2003. all clients can access it internally but it gives an "HTTP 404 Not found" error when using it externally. i have tried to recreate the six directories but doesn't change anything. i can get the logon screen and after you login you get the error. The old w2k domain had some freaky group policy on it, which I disabled already, but no luck at all.     - Unable to do restore Exchange 2000 Hi, As part of the Exchange 2007 transition design, I am trying to set up a lab for a customer. I succesfully restored to the LAB 3 Windows 2003 Domain controllers, and 3 Exchange 2003 SP2 servers (using the disasterrecovery switch). When I try to run setup of Exchange 2000 server using the disasterrecovery switch, I am receiving the following error: "The component Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "disaster Recovery because: - Active Directory has not replicated all the necessary permissions for the deleted items container. Please wait until replication completes before running setup." Keep in mind that I was able to do the setup /disasterrecovery for the Exchange 2003 servers in the same environment.     - Nagging Exchange 2007 Architecture Question I'm setting up Exchange 2007 from scratch in a new installation. The main part of Exchange will run on a Windows 2003 x64 server on the inside network. I plan to put an Edge Transport Server on a machine in the DMZ to isolate it from the inside network and not expose the main part of Exchange to the Internet. The only thing I can't figure out is how to get IIS 6 running on the server in the DMZ to serve up OWA instead of IIS on the main server on the inside network.     - OWA Best Practices I've seen several replies on the forum here stating that placing an OWA server in a DMZ is not recommended by Microsoft. Can someone please reply with a link to a Microsoft website stating that? I'm doing some work for a company that is being autdited and the auditors want them to place an OWA server in their perimeter network.     - 2 domains on 1 server I am setting up a new Windows Server 2003 machine. There are two companies sharing it. Each have their own internal IP address ranges in the office. They each have separate email and domain names. I understand that this would be a multi-forest setup with separate domain controllers for each company. There are two network cards in the server. I have a couple of questions: 1) Should I assign 1 network card to each company using those separate IP address ranges? 2) Do I need to have more than one outside static IP address to accomplish this or will one suffice?     - Cannot remove 1st exchange server I have recently moved exchange. Originally there was a SBS2k3 server, letâ??s call it MSTR, which was upgraded by transition pack to W2k3 Standard then W2k3 Enterprise. Then exchange was upgraded to 2k3 Enterprise. I have installed a new Exchange server, EXCHSRV1, joined the existing organization, sync'ed all public folders, moved the mailboxes and then ran through KB822931 to remove the 1st exchange store from the org. I changed our firewall, and SMTP connetorâ??s bridgehead configuration to route all smtp traffic to EXCHSRV1 but this failed. The traffic was being sent through but not picked up by the smtp server on the new exchange box. As soon as I turned the smtp traffic back to the MSTR, all was well. If I shut down the smtp virtual server on the MSTR, incoming email is down. I have recreated the SMTP connector with the new server as the bridgehead but still the same results occur. So now I have a new exchange server hosting all mail and public folders with the existing server relaying incoming mail to the new server. I am working towards moving everything off the original server to rebuild it as a new file server. What am I missing here? DOes the new server need to become the front end server?     - Sendign from 2003 to 2007 issue Hi, Got my new 2003 x64 bit server and installed Exchange 2007 on it. I want to connect and transfer from my existing 2003 server. Did the typical install, mailbox, hub and client access roles. Connected to 2003 exchange no problem. New routing groups visible in 2003. Am able to move a mailbox from 2003 to 2007 with 2007 tools. OWA up and running on 2007. 2007 user can sent directly out to the Internet and can send to legacy users on 2003. The problem is the 2003 users cannot send to the 2007 users. Mail gets stuck in the The email get stuck on 2003 in the "Messages with an unreachable destination" queue on the 2003 server. What am I missing so that 2003 can talk to the 2007 server?     - OWA on 2 Servers? Hello, I have an Exchange 2003 FE & BE server (exch2003) and a soon to be Exchange 2007 CAS (exch2007). The exch2003 server is in our DMZ (I inherited this problem) and exch2007 will be on our internal network (to fix the DMZ issue) with OWA published through ISA.     - Single node exchange cluster I'm looking for information on setting up a single node (I've also seen it referred to as a 'lone wolf') Exchange 2003 Cluster. I am aware of the Software requirements (Enterprise verison for Exchange and Windows), but am looking for information on the hardware resources, specifically the disks. Is it a MUST that there are separate SCSI connections to set up this configuration, or is setting up separate arrays on the same SCSI Bus sufficient?     - Using LCR for failover server I need to have a failover solution for exchange 2007. I don't really want to spend the extra money on Enterprise server to use CCR or third party replication software. But what if my primary exchange server is a Mailbox, Hub and Transport. My standby server would also be part of the domain and will be a Mailbox, Hub and Transport. Could I setup LCR on the Primary Server, automate the copy of the EDB, and Log files to the Standby server. Root domain mycompany.com with several DCs (win2k and win2k3) with several exch2k3 and exch2k. Child domain site.mycompany.com with three DCs (2 win2k and 1 win2k3 R2) and NO exch2k3 or exch2k. I have created mailboxes on a Exch2k3 server (which is also a DC running win2k) in the root domain for users in the child domain. All creation works fine. Mailboxes, emailadresses, stores are shown correctly in AD users & computers and in Exch System Manager. When i try to configure the client (outlook 2k3 on a WinXp laptop) in the child domain with the child domain user logged on, in the step where you perform "check name" I get following reply : "The name could not be resolved. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list". I have checked the global adress list (which contains the user with the correct e-mail adress).     - Maintenance Interval does not work Hello, We're in the process of squaring away our databases, in preparation for upcoming mailbox size increases. We have customized our maintenance intervals by: 1. scheduling a more exact backup window 2. scheduling a more generous window for online maintenance/defrag After modifying a new maintenance interval for both backups and online defrag - we noticed that the new start time for online defrag did NOT take effect, it still ran on the OLD settings. We decided to reboot the server, waited until the next day and realized that it still did NOT work. I've read that restarting System Attendant resolves this issue - but again, we bounced the server - to no avail. I cannot see the queue for novell groupwise conenctor in exchange (MAPI) Hello all, please please, my message transfer between exchange and groupwise seems to be working fine both systems can send and recieve mail from each other through the connector . but i cannot see the queue, it has a red exclamation mark on the connector for novell groupwise mapi queue with the following error. all serverices are started. grrrr Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the MAPI connector (error code = 0x80040111). The expected situation is: the user of abc.com should have also an email address from def.com. When sending emails he should be able to choose the from address.     - After Installing Exchange 2003, the machine wont surf I just installed Exchange 2003 and all of the service packs. This server can surf and be surfed anywhere inside, but can no longer get updates, surf the internet or anything to do with outside.     - Disaster Recovery for a Single Mailbox Hi! I have an issue with a user who has deleted the Sent Items folder in his mailbox (Microsoft Outlook 2003 SP2) - still less than seven days ago, default time of retention in Exchange. Unfortunately, he has done a hard delete (SHIFT+Del) and the registry settings DumpsterAlwaysOn was not set prior to the disaster. So the Recovery Deleted Items feature in Outlook is of no use. My platform is : Production server: Dell PowerEdge 2850 running W2K3 SP1, Exchange 2K3 SP2, acting as a DC for the domain. Recovery Storage groups were set up a few months ago. Backup server with a nice backup of the System State and the Exchange Database (37 GB), not too old. Spare server: Dell PowerEdge 850 with a clean install of W2K3 SP1 - nothing more. At that step I have two options: ++ Either use the Recovery Storage Groups and use the ExMerge utility to extract a nice PST for the user who lost his Sent Items folder. Pros: Standard procedure Cons: Downtime of the server (I need to dismount the First Storage Group database). I am a bit nervous to take the risk to work on the production server for the purpose of the recovery of a single folder of a single mailbox of a single user... ++ Either try the following: Since I have a spare server (Dell PowerEdge 850) I thought it would be nice to proceed as follows: 1. Clean install of W2K3 SP1 on the spare server (same name, same IP address, same domaine name, not connected on the LAN - of course, in order to avoid DCs talking to each other). 2. Restore of the System State from the production server on the spare server 3. Installation of Exchange Server 2K3 on the spare server 4. Restore of the Exchange database on the spare server 5. Extraction of the mailbox with the ExMerge utility from this new Exchange restored database. The issue is that my spare server is all messed up after the restore of the System State. I do have the AD proper (users and computers) but since the hardware is different and the registry was also restored, the server is acting weirdly (event IE doesn't work), let alone try to install Exchange.     - Migrating public folders from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 We have just upgraded from Windows 2000 server running exchange server 2000 to Small Business Server 2003 Premium. We are having issues importing the public folders data back in to exchange. We used exmerge to export/import all the mail items for each mailbox. I manually export all the public folders and subfolders to a pst file and when I try to open it with Outlook I get the following error message "The File "PST FILE" is not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders Information Service.     - SMTP server, how to? Hi, I hope someone can give me som tips here. I want all outgoing e-mail to go through the external SMTP server that is set up in exchange 2003 (SBS 2003). By this I mean that a e-mail from one of the domain users conected to exchange server to another user on the same domain should NOT be distributed directly within exchange, but first go through the external SMTP server and then be picked up by the POP connector and THEN be distributed to the other user :-) I hope I have been able to explai this in a good way.     - OWA https works internally via IP Address but not externally. OWA worked fine with http://mail.Server_Name.com/exchange address but I decided to make it "https" instead. It works fine internally if we go to https://IP Address/exchange but it I try to go to it using https://mail.Server_Name.com/exchange it now displays "Page cannot be found". Please help... These are the steps I used: System Manager -> Admin Groups -> Server -> Server_Name -> Protocols - > HTTP -> Right click Exchange Virtual Server -> Settings and placed a check in Enable form based authenication -> ok. IIS -> Website -> Rightclick Default Website and choose Properties, Directory Security tab -> Server Certicates -> First -> Send the request ->Next to the end. Right clicked on Exchange in deault Websites and choose Properties -> Directory Security -> Secure Communications -> checked Require Secure Channel & Require 128, apply and OK. We are logged in as the administrator When we right click the public folder in Exchange System Manager, we are prompted to enter a password, the ID is already in as domain/administrator. we put he correct password in and the dialog screen comes back asking for the password again. if we enter the password 3 times, it comes up wtih an error of: (this is in a dialog box that pops up) Access denied facility: Win32 ID no: 800700005 Exchange System Manager Noticed if we put the incorrect password in (only need to do once) we will get this error: The operation failed. ID no: 80004005 Exchange System Manager So, it looks like when putting in the correct password, it does accept it, but does not allow to open "any" folders under the "Public Folders". Also; when we look at the owner of the "Public Folders", it shows "Enterprise Admin" as the owner, is this a problem? and can it be changed to just the "administrator" as the owner?     - Setting Integrated windows auth. for active sync Hi, I have aproblem on one of our Exchange 2003 backend server: We need to enable integrated windows authentication in order to support active-sync. Problem is that all Authentication button is disabled on the microsoft-server-activesync virtual directory in System Manager. I can use IIS-admin to enable, but that will only last for a while, until Exchange resets the permission to match what is configured in Exchange. MAPI 1.0 ID NO: 80040111-0286-00000000. Both server are in the same domain and in the same site. I have used the buildin administrator account. I have used the Active Directory Connector Services from Service Pack 2 (SP1 is nstalled on the Exchange 2003 Server).     - firewall and exchange server My ISP uses ip forwarding to deliver all mails to my mail server with a fix public IP address. I want to install an exchange server behind the firewall. I have test configured my firewall using IP forwarding to point this public IP address to my exchange server that has a private IP address (which also uses "mailserver.mydomain.local" instead of "mailserver.mydomain.com"). What I found with this set up is that I was able to send mail out but will not receive any incoming e-mails. Any suggestion what is the best way to set up my exchange2003 in this situation? Should my exchange server be sitting in front of the hardware firewall? Is the reason for not able to set up my exchangee 2003 behind the firewall due to the way my ISP deliver my e-mail?     - Exchange 2007 upgrade from Exchange 2003 w/ invalid Organization N Dear All, we have been MS Exchange early adopter since release 5.5, so we have usually upgraded from previus version to the new asap, just some months afeter the new release availability. Doing so we "arrived" today having our Exchange 2003 with the Organization Name that is exactly the old "ESSENTIA S.R.L.". All the preious upgrade procedures never reported Organization Name problems and all worked fine. Now we need to upgrade to Exchange 2007 but the Installation procedure stops reporting naming convention errors related to the "space" and "dot" anymore allowed. So we tried to change/rename the Active Directory 2003 structure with LegacyDN to a correct new name "ESSENTIAGROUP" and all was fine, but now we can not anymore have our Exchange 2003 mounts the database due to the Organization Name mismatch. So, my questions are: 0) Does anybody know an "official" or "unofficial correct" procedure for such a kind or upgrade problem? 1) Does anybody know how to "rename" the Organization Name within the Exchange 2003 databases? Could Isinteg or Eseutil do the job? 2) Does anybody know if Exchange 2007 can mounts Exchange 2003 databases (not upgraded) that have the Organization Name not correctly referring to the current ON renamed? We had this same problem with GMAIL and AOL until we created and published an SPF policy. So now we have a Valid SPF and Reverse DNS (on our outgoing mail server). - Exchange Server 2007 (all roles) is only supported on x64 hardware. The
32-bit (x86) version is meant for testing/learning.
- Client Access Server (CAS) role hosts Outlook Web Access (equivalent of
Exchange Server 2003/2000 Front-End server), but unlike Exchange 2003/2000,
it's not supported in the perimeter (aka "DMZ").

I can understand why Microsoft requires x64 hardware for the main Exchange
components, but why did they also impose this requirement on Edge Transport
servers? Sounds like unnecessary overkill to me and one likely to drive up
the cost for everyone as they replace their x32 licenses with x64 licenses.
