I am trying to set up our Exchange 2003 STD server with RPC over HTTP,
following the steps on the MS site
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833401) and am
stuck at

"Step 2: Configure all your global catalogs to use specific ports for RPC
over HTTP for directory services"

where I beleive that I need to make changes in the registry at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters

I am stuck as I do not have the NTDS folder in that location.

I think I am missing something perhaps, can anyone assist? I think Im not
certain is my Exchange 2003 server is configured to function as a global
catalog server...

How can I check that?

Thanks in advance for your help folks.

Chis,

If you would like to see which servers are Global Catalog servers...Go to
Active Directory Sites and Services and drill down to servers until you get
to NTDS Settings. Then right click and select properties. On the general
tab if there is a check mark in Global Catalog the server is acting as a
Global Catalog Server. If there is no check mark then it is not a GC.

Hope this helps.

Rob, I see that my Exchange server doesnt have the NTDS settings... In order
for RPC over HTTPS to work, I thought I read that the Exchange server needs
to be a Global Catalog also... is this the case?

Since my exchange server isnt right now, do I need to do this somehow?

Thanks again in advance...

How do I make the exchange server a Global Catalog server, since its not an
AD server? Does it need to be in order to use RPC over HTTP?

Hi,

A server that is not a DC can't be a GC.

It should not be necessary for the exchange server to be a domain controller
for the RPC over HTTP to work.

Have you seen this
