    - Two Exchange Servers in a single domain Hello, I'm attempting to preform a migration to exchange 2003 via the "swing" method, as describe in KB 821896. I've got the second exchange server up and running, and it's seen in the Exchange System manager on both Exchange servers. I moved a test account (jamtest2) from the original server (ms1) to the "swing" server (ms2). The jamtest2 user, can recieve mail from ms1, and can send mail to both ms1 and through a mail relay. However incoming e-mail destined for jamte...@ad-domain.org does not make it to the users mail box. Instead, the sender gets a this message: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: TEST 16 Sent: 1/25/2005 5:32 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: James Testor2 on 1/25/2005 8:06 PM A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator. < sendmail.server.isp.org #5.4.6 SMTP; 554 5.4.6 Too many hops> When I do a nslookup for the mx records for my AD domain I get: H:\>nslookup Default Server: dns.ad-domain.org Address: 192.168.120.2 >set type=mx >ad-domain.org Server: dns.ad-domain.org Address: 192.168.120.2 ad-domain.org MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = ms1.ad-domain.org ad-domain.org MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = ms2.ad-domain.org ms1.ad-domain.org internet address = 192.168.120.10 ms2.ad-domain.org internet address = 192.168.120.12 I can't seem to find any documentation on how to make to exchange servers play nice in the same domain.     - Exchange Server 2003 First Install Question Dear All, Hello Hope all is well. I am trying to put my thoughts together & to remember how it all was done or started with an exchange/windows migration from 2k to 2003. It was a network with a couple of Exchange 2000 servers running on Windows 2000 systems & with one front-end server (back then running E2k & W2k). The boss managed to either install FIRST Exchange Server 2003 (might have been an in-place upgrade of the front-end as a matter of fact) or upgrade the node to WS2003, actually, the OS front-end server might have remained windows 2000 server. I believe he did the upgrade of the mail side of it, leaving the front-end exchange with Windows 2000 server...is this possible???? Since documentation points to upgrade first the front-end server & then the other regular mailbox exchange systems... He then might have proceeded to upgrade other mail systems by doing a mailbox-move method(yes); the windows 2000 server -side of it a bit more complicated since it meant installing a brand new & first WS2003 DC with a different name than the first root DC (originally a W2k Server).     - Exchange Re-install Won't Accept Email Hello, I am running Exhcange 2003 on Windows 2003. I am a novice user of Exchange 2003 and am in a bind. I had my server hdd fail on me and low and behold the NTBACKUP file would not retore (what else is new). So I rebuilt the server and attached it to the domain so all of my old AD information is still there. I have succesfully installed Exchange 2003 on the newly built DC and I created all new mailboxes for my users and I can succesfully logon to Exchange through OWA. However when I send something to the email address that I created, the server will not recieve it. I have been able to SEND OUT an email from within OWA to another email account and I get that test email fine, but when I try to reply to it I get an error saying that I am not authorized to forward to this server. Exchange 2003 will not accept any incoming email. To add to this I can not get my Outlook 2003 to connect to the newly installed Exchange 2003 server. If just sits there trying to connect and then comes back with an error saying it can not connect. Any help to get this back up and running would be great! Tag: RPC over HTTP - Help Tag: 126992

    - Step #13 Article 822450 We are running in mixed mode currently and I have an Exchange 5.5 server which is the last Exchange 5.5 server in the Exchange 2003 Administrative Group. I have followed the steps outlined in article # 822450 down to Step #12. It says to move any connectors on the 5.5 server to SRS server. In this case it would be an x.400 connector and directory replication connector. I have found articles on creating the x.400 connector. My question is how to move the directory replication connector? Does the x.400 connector that points to our exch5.5 bridgehead need to be added to Exchange 2003 SRS in that admin group if an Exchange 2003 server exists in the same administrative group as the exch5.5 BH? Wouldn't messages be routed across the routing group connector and then passed the the Exchange 5.5 BH if destined for another 5.5 server. Is there an article I am missing that outlines this?     - Creating new Administrative Group in mixed mode I have two companies that were not in our Exchange organization when we switched to mixed mode. I know in mixed the Administrative Groups are created based on Exchange 5.5 sites. What I would like to do and need to know if this will create an issue is to create a new administrative group in System Manager. Then create their Exchange 2003 in this new admin group.     - ADC fustration OK. I am migrating from E5.5 to E2k3. Have followed Exdeploy up to the ADC. Used ADC tools all the way through step 4. The user and public folder ocnneciton agreements exists, but I don't see any evidence of replication. The resouce accounts never get created and changing attributes at either side and "replicate(ing) now" doesn't have an affect, but doesn't raise an error. I have turned diagnostic logging up to maximum, but still not event log entries. Nothing in the ADCTools.log either. Does it log replication somewhere else? Anyway.     - Leave some users on ISP server I use SBS 2003 Server and I want to leave some non-user accounts, i.e. info@, on my ISP's mail server. My user accounts are in my Exchange Server and I use Pop3 connectors to retrieve their mail from my ISP. When a user john.smith@abc.com, who is on the Exchange Server, attempts to send a message to a non-user account, i.e. info@abc.com which is on my ISP's mail server, they get this error, "The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address."     - Exchange 2003 Upgrade from Exchange 5.5 Hope someone can help, I'm trying to upgrade to 2003, this is what I have and done so far.... I have installed in a new server running Windows 2003 Standard, I done the install coexisting with 5.5, I can't get the mailboxes to move, I am having error 1022 every 5 mins, I know it's not a user trying to access their mailbox, it's not the disabled Active Directoy account part either, as far as running ERROR.EXE, I don't know if I have that or not. and I've also did the update the Recipient Update Service.     - How to delete an obsolete connection agreement? When I run connection agreement wizard, it always errors out from could not read the attribute of an obsolete connection agreement. Because the connetion agreement did not complete successfully, I could not install exchange 2003. Can someone help to delete obsolete connection agreement ?     - When to Switch from Mixed Mode to Native Mode Hello, I am doing a Migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 using new hardware. My servers now look like this: Windows 2000 SP4 server with Exchange 2000 running as a DC and GC Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP1 running as a DC and GC These are the steps I have completed: Added the Windows 2003 server as a DC. (I ran thought the entire process; But just want to write it out.) Changed to â??Exchange Native Modeâ?? Ran Exchange 2003 setup/forestprep Ran Exchange 2003 setup/domainprep Installed Exchange 2003 (From the â??Exchange Server Deployment Tools SP1â??) â?¢ I selected to â??Deploy your first Exchange 2003 serverâ?? â?¢ Then â??Upgrade from Exchange 2000 Native Modeâ?? Installed Exchange 2003 SP1 I started moving a few user mail boxes to test the waters and everything looks great. Then I start reading more on how I going to move the public folders and here is where I saw the problem. When I went to the properties of the organization to select â??Show Routing groupsâ?? and I noticed that the Exchange Operation Mode was still reading â??Mixed Modeâ??. Now I know that I changed this! Could this be a mistake? What ramifications could happen if it is in â??Mixed Modeâ?? and I change it to â??Native Modeâ???     - Active Directory connector concern Hi I am running 5.5 and migrating to 2003. ran ADC logfile showing Matched 'cn=6BEF94FF,cn=Recipients,ou= site,o=company' to 'CN=GRIEOD,CN=Users,DC=domain ,DC=com' based on SID. I am worried about these strange cn=6BEF94FF, some are matching cn name to cn name others are not. Should I? Error: Security identifier (SID) for the associated Windows NT account (Assoc-NT-Account) for the mailbox 'cn=26A5C41E,cn=Recipients,ou=site,o=org' could not be resolved.     - Exchange 2003 install I'm trying to install a new exchange 2003 server in a domain running on SBS 2000. I've installed the OS (Windows Server 2003 Standard) and joined it to the domain. I've completed the install of exchange 2003 standard but when I go to the exchange system manager on either the SBS 2000 or the 2003 box the only server it shows is the SBS 2000 exchange server. I've contacted micosoft support on this and they basicly told me that adding a second exchange server to an SBS enviornment is not possible. I've done this before so I know it is possible.     - Migration - Distribution/Security groups? We successfully migrated from an NT 4 domain to a W2K3 domain (native mode) and from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 (native mode). In the old domain, we had a security group (many) with the same name as a distribution list (many). Now, the distribution lists do not work. We would like to continue to use the old names for the Distribution list and create new or rename the Security Groups. Can we change the Group Type from Security to Distribution?     - OWA Access Hi All I am running in an Exchange 2003 server environment, where I have one front end server and two back end servers to service my end users. I have OWA enabled for the users and they are using Forms Based Authentication. Using the tutorial I ammended the login.asp file to allow users to log into OWA using simply their username and password, however after the ammendents users still have to type their domain\username and password to login. Please note that the login screen oly shows the username and password but to log in users have to type the domain\username and password. Why would this be occuring and what can I do to rectify this?     - Exchange Routing Hi... Scenario: Exchange 2003 (SBS 2003 Premium) is set up at our head office. Certain employees who have AD accounts need local mail, but their primary mail addresses are external ones (at the client offices). These 2 networks are not joined in any way. The problem is to try and use their local user accounts (in address book) to send to the external addresses by default, but everything's coming through to the local mailboxes. Our current setup is Exchange 5.5 SP4, one server (Win2k cluster) all users are already in a Windows 2000 SP AD domain (single forest and domain). The ADCConfigCheck will be skipped. #*** ADCConfigCheck: finished verifying 0 objects: 01/21/2005 09:01:27 ***# As I said replication seems to be working , if I make an update on either end the change is replicated to the other environment successfully. I assume this isn't normal, should there have been an organization object created representing the Exchange 5.5 organization? If so where should it be in the Configuration container?     - Problem sending mail from 5.5 to 2003 Hi we have E2K3 and 5.5 in two different domains. We have configured the ADC and have migrated 1 mailbox from the 5.5 to the E2K3 box, this worked fine. We noticed that the mailbox was still listed in the 5.5 admin program, so we deleted it from there and then opened outlook 2003, thinking that it would be redirected to the mailbox on the new E2K3 server. This was not the case as Outlook was still looking to the 5.5 box. We then manually setup Outlook to the new E2K3 box and opened the mailbox OK. Now we cannot send mail to the 5.5 mailboxes from the E2K3 mailbox and the same from 5.5 to E2K3 can anyone explain what has happened why, once migrated, the mailbox still appeared in the 5.5 organisation why outlook didn't reconfigure itself and why we can send mail to 5.5 and 5.5 to E2k3 any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks Marcus Tag: RPC over HTTP - Help Tag: 126934

    - partitions or folder structure? I am setting up Exchange2003 on RAID5 (yes, I know that is not what is recommended but that's the way it has to be!). So I have around 200GB of unpartitioned space, should I simply create a single huge D: drive and use folder structure or many partitions to separate the Exchange components, logs etc. IMHO with RAID5, administration\performance wont be any easier\better with partitions.     - Outlook 2003 Offline folder Hi all Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x80040119) : unkown error 0x80040119' One suggestion from www.support.microsoft.com is to repair the *.pst file, this does not apply to my case (i think) as outlook uses a *.ost file for offline, the other suggestion is that the offline address book in Exchange might be faulty, i deleted the offline address book recreated the file but i still get the same error.     - Hardware Recommendations for Exchange Server We are looking to deploy an Exchange Server to support about 150 users. Almost all of the users will be connecting remotely through VPNs using Outlook 2003 Cached Mode. Mailbox limits will be 100MB per user. We have been looking at different servers, it must be rackmount. Do you think we could do a 1U server, Dual Processor, 2GB RAM, dual Gigabit Ethernet, 4 x 80GB SATA in a RAID 10 config.     - Exchange, Outlook and Firewall Exchange 2003, outlook 98. Local clients connect with no issue, I have had internet clients connecting via exchange connector thru the firewall at thie location before with no issue, until code red came out... and due to an unqualifed admin and/or a patch issued by microsoft, this has stopped working. Ports open on the firewall: 25,80,110,135,143,593 and opened range 1024 to 1800 based on something I read. The exchange client "sometimes" connects to check the username with 10 second pause, othertime it reports connection or network error. I have statically set the tcpip ports for exchange as well based on some articles posted by microsoft, saw no improvement and removed them.     - exch2k mailbox store will not mount I have a native 2k network and I am trying to add an exchange 2k server in a remote office. I already have two functioning exchange 2k servers at other locations and I cannot get the mailbox store on the new server to mount, it is giving me a C1041724 error and the public store is mounting fine. I have verified all rights to the exch directories all appropriate services are running using system logons the new server is a member of the domain and has access to a local DNS server and Global catalog I have tried moving the files from the MDBDATA directory and while the public store offered to create a blank database the mailbox store did not.     - can't get Forest Prep to run Installing the 1st Ex2K3 server in a single domain Ex2k/W2K domain. The new Exchange server is on a new W2k3 server that is NOT a DC. As I go thru the deplyment tools I get an error from the Exchange Install Wizard. Either don't have premission or AD too busy. I'm running this forest prep on the W2K3 server itself. I am the only admin, admin logged into server, admin has permissions to Schema, Enterprise and Domain admins. I tried running Forest Prep from a DC but then I don't get a choice of Forest Prep it just gives me the choices to install Exchanges Server 03 which of course not what I want to do.     - IP Address change I had to change my Exchange servers IP address and now I can not get any of the services to come back up. I am working off a dual NIC system, I disabled the original one and brought up the new one...once I did that, the services wouldn't come back up. We recently purchased a new server and I want to setup exchange 2003 on this server. Once everything is in place I would like to remove the existing Exchange 2000. So my questions are: What potential conflicts will arise from installing Exchange 2003 in an existing domain with Exchange 2000? Will there be an interruption of service with Exchange 2000 while Iâ??m setting up Exchange 2003 in the same domain. Are there any conflicts between Windows 2003 member server and Windows 2000 DC (I was thinking making the new server a member server would be the best way to introduce it to the existing domain).     - exchange 2k-2k3 upgrade I have a single 2k AD, on a single win2k domain controller. Also on this server is Exchange 2000. I have a new server with Windows 2003 and I need to install Exchange 2003 Enterprise on it. Is it simply a case of doing the forest prep etc, installing, then moving mailboxes using the ESM?     - OWA 5.5 does not authenticate users Hi all, This problem is really annoying, I was able to install OWA on exchange 5.5 server just fine, my main OWA page comes up ok as well, when I enter my mailbox name, it promts me to enter my "domainname\user and password" which i do, but it doesn't authenticate, keep prompting me again and again. However If I do it from the exchange machine it self it seems to work fine and let's me into my inbox. I'm using windows 2000 domain, no ssl for now.     - Second Exchange Server and OWA Hi, This is my first post, so please excuse me if i did anything wrong. I am sort of new to Exchange 2003 administration and I need some help with this. I am a network administrtor for a small health care firm and I am setting up a second exchange server for the first time. Our current setup is one excahnge 2003 server running on WIndows server 2003. We have recetnly moved our adminstrtion staff to a satalie office connected to the main office with a frac. T1 with just over 1 meg for the data side. I have a DC out at that site and that is it. I am getting a faster e-mail server for the main office and I want to move the old one out to the admin site to allow for faster access to the e-mail. We are also deploying a new website which will be hosted on a web server in the DMZ zone of my firewall. I also to release OWA to the agency, but I only want them to have to go to one server to access thier e-mail through OWA and everything that I have read so far is that if I deply a front-end and back-end server, It will look like I might losse the speed increase for that I am trying to get.     - RCP over HTTP Problem Hello I've setup rpc over http and it seems to work, however outlook seems to hang for a good 3-4 minutes before it logs into the mailboxes. The exchange 2003 server is named server1.domain.com however in dns I use mail.domain.com When I configure outlook to use mail.domain.com it freezes and changes that to server1.domain.com. I've set the exchange proxy settings to use https://mail.domain.com however when I open outlook it takes ages to make the https connection, it hangs trying to connect to server1.domain.com. Interestingly enough, when I connect using the same configuration using a different computer on a different network it actually does work even though both computers are configured identcally.     - Public Folders Not Replicating I have 1 E2K server in our company. I added a new Ex 2003 (Sp1) server. I am in the process of retiring the old E2K server and just having the new Ex 2003 server. I am able to move mailboxes, but I can not get the public folders to replicate. It shows up on the replication tab of my public folders, but it never shows up on my new Ex 2003 server. When I click on the Details button on a public folder on the old E2K server, it says "local modified" on the new server. We don't use many public folders anyway. Does any one know how I can get around this, or can I just recreate the public folders on my new Ex 2003 server, and point clients to the new server for public folders? I also am having trouble with the Offline Address Book & Free/Busy times. I realize this is part of the public folders.     - POP3 and Firewalls We are currently using exchange 5.5 and have a firewall in place. We have a remote user who wants from home to download his email to a mail client he has installed on his laptop. He connects his laptop to a ADSL line and then wants to download his email to a to the client and also send emails but his from address should be from his company email address. So he has a POP3 client and and I need to install POP3 on exchange 5.5 and also open a port through our firewall for POP3. As he is using a adsl line how would I setup a rule on our firewall for only him to download email from our exchange server. Does the ADSL line have an Ip address or something. Have you added the server certificate to your client? You can get it by
browsing your server http://server.com/rpc
