Disable MAPI Client Access Exch 2003
I want to disable certain versions of Outlook from
connecting to my Exchange 2003 Server and I have looked at
KB 288894
But in the KB you are required to specify the version of
the Emsmdb32 file.
I only want Outlook XP all versions and Outlook 2003 all
versions to be able to connect to the Exchange 2003
server.
Where can I find a document or list of Emsmdb32 file
versions so that I can apply this to the exchange server?

Two Servers - One IP
Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I am new to both
Exchange and DNS and have an issue that probably involves both. I have two
Windows 2003 servers behind a firewall appliance with one static IP address.
The PDC, Server1.myDomain.com handles DNS records for the domain. On
Server1, I have set up the host and MX records for the domain. both of the
records point to the external IP of the router, which then forwards to the
appropriate machines. I am successfully receiving emails on the other server
Mail.myDomain.com. However, I need to set up Outlook Web Access to the
Exchange server. To do this, I think I would need something like
http://mail.mydomain.com/exchange to access it. If this is the case, then I
am not sure how to get this set up properly. Is it an Exchange issue or DNS
issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122147

Storage Options for Exchange 2003
I am in the process of putting together a new server for Exchange 2003.
What are my options for storage other than stuffing a buch of SCSI

I think I read somewhere that Exchange databases cannot be put on NAS

I want to put together a sensible solution that could easily accommodate

Exchange 2003 Error
Hello,
I have been getting this error from our exchange 2003 server randomly since
we migrated from a exchange 2000 server. We use our exchange server with
outlook 2000, and do NOT host our own external email. here is the error.
A non-delivery report with a status code of 5.3.5 was generated for
recipient rfc822;<email address> (Message-ID
33516BB6CBBC87488E59F3E8735D6CF4148085@<Servername>).
Causes: A looping condition was detected. (The server is configured to route
mail back to itself). If you have multiple SMTP Virtual Servers configured
on your Exchange server, make sure they are defined by a unique incoming
port and that the outgoing SMTP port configuration is valid to avoid looping
between local virtual servers.
Solution: Check the configuration of the virtual serverÆs connectors for
loops and ensure each virtual server is defined by a unique incoming port.
Any help would be great.

testing exchange 2003
I'm going to bring email in house and I was considering
using Exchange 2003.
There's only about 20 or so pc's on this network and
there is no domain. Do I have to use a domain in order to
use Exchange 2003?
I hesitate on going ahead and installing Active Directory
because it wants a fully qualified domain name. I'm not
sure what to use because I want to test out exchange with
my own personal registered domain and setup everything
first so i can test it than use my companies registered
domain.

Global Catalog problem in Exchange Setup
I'm having a problem installing Exchange, and I'm hoping
someone can help me.
When I try to install Exchange, I get this message:
The component 'Microsoft Exchange Messaging and
Collaboration Services' cannot be assigned the action
"Install" because:
- Setup cannot connect to a global catalog server. There
are no global catalog servers that are running on Windows
2000 SP3 in a domain-prepped domain in either the local
Windows site or adjacent sites. Upgrade at least one
global catalog server in the local site or an adjacent site
to Windows 2000 SP3 or later. In addition, ensure that the
domain of which the global catalog server is a member has
been domain-prepped. If the global catalog server is not
in the local domain, run Setup with the /DomainPrep switch
in the domain of which the global catalog server is a member.
I'm trying to install Exchange on a domain controller
within an AD forest. There is one other domain in the
forest, and that other domain is the root domain for the
forest. All my machines are running Windows 2003 Server.
In preparation for this install, I did the following:
1. Ran forestprep on the DC in the root domain.
2. Ran domainprep on the DC in the root domain.
3. Ran domainprep on the DC on which I'm trying to install
Exchange.
Can anyone explain why Exchange is having a problem with
the Global Catalog?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Lotus Notes to Exchange 2003 Migration
Currently my company's primary server is Lotus Notes running on an AS400
machine. I recently completed the installation of front end/backend Exchange
2003 setup. No issues what so ever. After reading "Exchange Server 2003
Interoperability and Migration Guide", I proceeded with installing and
configuring the Lotus Notes Connector on our Exchange 2003 backend server.
At the step where you start the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes
service, the AD organizational unit designated for existing lotus notes
users, started populating with all users from our Lotus Notes server as
disabled accounts. In the Lotus Notes Connector properties, under the Import
Container, I have it set that "when replicating a mailbox whose primary
windows account does not exist in the domain" = "create a disabled windows
user account". For all the Lotus Notes accounts, there are equivalent AD
accounts. I don't understand why all these disabled accounts were created.
Make me think that the connector couldn't figure out how to match AD accounts
with the lotus account. Has anybody ever experienced this? How does one go
about troubleshooting this? From what I read, it doesn't seem like the
connector is to behave this way. Additionally, if I took the disabled
account generated from the Lotus Notes connector, disabled the pre-existing
AD account and enabled the disabled account generated from the Lotus Notes
connector, I can send messages back and forth between Exchange and Lotus
Notes without any issues. I have approximately 200 users to convert and this
process to get Lotus Notes users to Exchange would not be optimal. Any help
or suggestions would be appreciated. Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122066

Front-End/Back-End and Recipient Update Service
I am in the process of upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to 2003. I planned on
using four servers, 2 front-end servers and a 2 node active/passive cluster
as the back-end. Since you have to have at least one 2003 Exchange server
running before you can install the cluster, I used one of the front-end
servers as the first Exchange 2003 server. So at this point, I have the
cluster setup and one front-end running the ADC connector and co-existing
with Exchange 5.5. The problem is that I can not check the box in front of
"This is a front-end server." The error message says that it can not be a
front-end server because the Recipient Update Service is running on it. So
my question is, what are my options? Can the service be moved to the
cluster? Do I have to purchase another server or what?

Migrating from one server to another
I have a scenario that I'm looking to get some input on from the
Exchange experts out there. I have a client that currently uses
Exchange 2003 out of an ASP hosted datacenter. The client is leaving
that ASP vendor and is installing the servers in house. My question
is, if the ASP vendor has exchange 2003 and my client installs
exchange 2003 on a server inhouse, what is the best way to migrate all
of the user's information, ie mail, contacts, calendar. I know that
there is a "Move Mailbox" tool with Exchange 2003, but that to me
looks like it is designed to work with servers that are all in the
same AD domain. In this case we don't have that option.

OWA...change password....work around for SSL....EXCHANGE 2000
Hi
OWA in Exchange 2000 has been configured. For the change password
option an SSL certificate is required. The problem is that we already
have ONE SSL certificate and the company cant afford to but another
one at the moment for various reasons.
I want to set up a work around such that when the user clicks 'CHANGE
PASSWORD' it goes to another link than the default one which should be
lets say 'http://www.company.com/changepassword'. This website has SSL
implemented hence we could use our 'change password' option.
Is that possible? How do i go about it?
If not possible, is there a workaround from not buying an SSL
certificate?
Any idea whatsoever would be great. Thanx in advance.

database?
I changed the computer name of my server, and restarted,
but the services won't start now as they still try to
look for the old name. I cannot revert back to the old
name, cuz the old name was INTERNET which is no longer
supported in windows 2000 and onwards. If there is no way
to change the computer name of an exchange server, then
does anyone have an idea on how to add a computer
name "INTERNET" to a native windows 2000 domain? Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122016
WILL THIS WORK FOR DISASTER RECOVERY?
Production server is Exchange 2000 with SP3 on a Windows 2000 Server
OS.
We acquired a newer, more powerful server, so obviously it's not the
same specs as the production server (they're both Dell's though).
Would the following work?
1. Shut down the production server.
2. Bring up the new server (Windows 2000 with SP4 OS with the latest
fixes and patches), have it the same computer name and ip address as
production server.
3. Install Exchange 2000 with SP3.
4. Restore priv.edb and pub.edb from the most recent full backup.
Will Outlook clients be able to access the new server? Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122015
dcDiag FRS error while preparing for Exchange installation.
FQDN small network with 2 dcs am planning on installing Exchange 2k on
one of the dcs. Questions...
Is this a mistake in the long run? I was under the impression you needed
to install Exchange on a dc but have read messages that disprove that
and advise against.
On the dc upon which I plan to install Exchange dcdiag reports no fatal
error but ...
"There are erros after the SYSVOL has been shared. The SYSVOL can
prevent the AD from starting. A warning event occured. EventID
0x800034C4; Event String: The File Replication Service is having trouble
enabling replication from dc1 to dc1 for c:blah ising the dns name
dc1.fqdn. FRS will keep trying."
Then just a few lines later...
"Event String: The File Replciation Service has enabled replication from
dc1 to dc2 for c:blah after repeated retries. dc2 passed test frssysvol."
I ran dcdiag with the /fix so did it fix the problem. The event logs
on both servers say replication is happening but has had starts & stops
in the past.

unable to get the owa logon page - please help
i have a question about owa 2003. i just setup my front
end server (exchange enteprise 2k3 with sp1). everything
went fine but here's my problem, i cannot get the owa
logon page to show up. if i type
http://servername/exchange all i get is an nt login box.
i type the username and password and i can get in fine
with no problem. i can view my mailbox. do i have to
enable the ssl and then enable forms base authentication
just to get the logon pages to work or am i missing
something? also is there anything else that i need to do
on IIS side? i'm just wondering if there's anything that
i have to change like the default website's directory
local path. can you please tell me what it should be?
also the other thing that i noticed is that in IIS, when
i go to default website>exchange, this folder is empty.
should i be creating something there? please let me
know.. any advice is very much appreciated..
thanks a lot in advance,

SQL Mail Problem
Hello,
I have a server with SBS 2003 and Exchange 2003 and SQL 2000 and all with
current service packs. I
am having a problem with SQL Mail. The problem is the mail profile is grayed
out in SQLServerAgent.
I created a mail profile in exchange called SQLMail. I then opened SQL
Enterprise Manager went to Support Service then to SQL Mail opened the drop
down box and selected my profile called SQLMail and then clicked "Test" and
the message that came back was "Successfully stopped and started a MAPI
Session". I then went to SQLServer agent properties and notice that Mail
profile is grayed out so I can not at this point use my profile. Since
Exchange and SQL is on the SBS server the user I am using is Administrator
and I used Administrator in SQL and Exchange. The problem looks to me as if
I am not using the same account for exchange and SQL but from what I can see
I am using the same account.
Thank You In Advance,

How many ADCs??
Question for the experts: how many ADCs are necessary?
I plan to use 1 dedicated ADC server for a 22 site
Exchange 5.5 migration for 1300 mailboxes.
I came across this sentence in the Summary of the link
below: "Before you start site consolidation, you must
install the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Active
Directory Connector on all servers in the forest."
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;841659&Product=exch2003
This looks like an obvious typo/misstatement however I
did want to confirm. Secondly I have yet to see a X ADC
connectors per Y sites/servers calculation. Does such a
rule exist?
Thanks ahead of time. Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122001
Installation Crash
Ok the set up is W2K Native Mode, Primary DC, Secondary DC and Member
Servers.
I am trying to install Exchange 2003 on the Member server. I went through
the prep steps of Exchange 2003. I ran dcdiag on both DC's and everything
passed. I ran netdiag and everything pasted. I get to Forest Prep it was a
no go. It said AD was busy or i didn't have the rights. Which I was logged
on with the same administrator account as below.
So I switched to the Primary DC and run Forest Prep and Domain Prep no
problem. I rebooted the server and then went back to the Member Server to
install Exchange. Everything went fine until the installation came to Forest
prep again then I encountered the following error message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSetup
Event Category: Microsoft Exchange Setup
Event ID: 1002
Date: 9/27/2004
Time: 6:20:30 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SVR_WEB
Description:
Exchange Server component Microsoft Exchange Forest Preparation failed.
Error: 0xc1037ae6 - Extending the schema in the Active Directory failed.
Please consult the error log LDIF.ERR in your TEMP directory.
Ok their isn't a LDIF.ERR file on the Member Server but there is one one the
Primary DC and it contains the following:
Entry DN:
CN=ms-Exch-Modify-Public-Folder-Replica-List,CN=Extended-Rights,cn=Configuration,dc=xps,dc=local
change: modify
Attribute 0) appliesTo:3568b3a4-a982-11d2-a9ff-00c04f8eedd8
337: Attribute or value exists, entry skipped.
Anyone got any suggestions? Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 122000
ExMerge information
Hi
I´m about to migrate alot of .PST files from an Exchange 5.5 server to an
Exchange 2003 server.
I will have no contact with the old 5.5 server, the only thing I´m getting
is .PST files of all the mailboxes. So I have to import them into the new
Exchange server in some way.
Can I import hundreds of PST files to a new server with ExMerge? If so, how
would that syntax look? How should you name the PST files?
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards

EX 2003 on IMC.???
shortly we are going to be rolling out Exchange server 2003 and
decomisioning our old exchange 5.5.
Currently the 5.5 sits on a very busy WIN 2000 Svr, it has been suggested
that we make the clean install on the server that is the internet mail
connector (which has plenty of room to host the database, and will take the
load from our primary box.)
Is it a bad idea to run the New Exchange database on the same box as the
IMC.. for any particular reason, and is there anything I should be aware of
before making the move to 2003..? Tag: RDC over HTTP for outlook 2003 Tag: 121993
