Can't send or receive e-mail to POP3 users on same domain--HELP!
All,
I can't seem to resolve this, and I'm hoping someone here has some
info.
We have SBS 2003 and Exchange is having a heck of a time. It can't
seem to send messages to ANY POP3 users on its own domain. What's
worse, I no longer get notifications bounced back to the sender--they
think the message has gone, but it hasn't, and the recipient doesn't
even know there was a message.
When Exchange was set up, the 5 e-mail accounts within this company
were added. They're all POP3 accounts, and were working fine before
the server was installed. (There was no previous server
installation--just P2P connectivity.)
Now, whenever Tena@company.com sends a note to Kristina@company.com,
Kristina never gets it. They work in the same room. When Tena sends a
note to Jim@company.com (several states away, but with an account on
the Exchange server, since he works at the company), he never gets it.
If she sends it to his HOME e-mail address, it works fine. If he sends
a message to her, she DOES get it, even if he uses his "@company.com"
e-mail address. The difference here is that he's not logging into the
server. He's connecting "directly" to the Internet and just using
Outlook and his SMTP server.
The Event log is full of error "1015" for the POP3 Connector (it
occurs every 15 minutes, when Exchange is checking e-mail), but the
Microsoft support site and EVENT.ID site have no information on this
error. Here's what it states: "Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes
can not verify the Internet connection but will still attempt to
download messages."
I've tried "forcing" the POP3 connections, but that doesn't help.
There are no errors that I've seen, and the user gets no "bounce back"
notification. (They used to be alerted that the addressee was not at
the company, even though he or she was. That doesn't happen any more,
and I don't know what's changed.) Exchange was configured to use the
POP3 connector, but it creates fewer errors in the log if I DON'T use
it. I can have the users go back through the connector, but with or
without it, they still get all their other e-mail--just not from
people at the company.
For each user's e-mail address, there are two "SMTP" entries under the
user's E-mail Address properties screen. "smtp" points to
"user@company.local" and "SMTP" points to "user@company.com" (the
primary, POP3 account). I assume these are correct, as they were set
up by Exchange. Each account also has an X400 entry.
I've resorted to Jim@company.com sending a message to everyone else at
the company from his company address and having them reply to it just
so he can get messages back from them. Apparently, if they initiate
the message, Exchange doesn't deem it "legitimate", but if they reply
to one, it's fine.
I set up the users and their e-mail just like I did on a SBS2000
server last year, but this isn't working properly, for some reason.
What other info do you need to help troubleshoot this? Since Microsoft
offers no free support at all for SBS 2003, I'm out of luck.
Thanks.

Error Message between Outlook 2003 and Exchange Server 2003
Hello All:
I am hopeful that someone can help me solve this problem.
Whenever I open Outlook and it attempts to retrieve mail from my
Exchange Server, I get the following message in Outlook:
Receiving reported error (0x80042108) Outlook is unable to
connect to your incoming (pop3) email server. If you continue to
receive this message contact your Server's Administrator or ISP.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this error, thanks Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134460
Configure 2 seperate exchange servers on different domains and for
I have installed a new SBS2003 server on the same private subnet as my
exisiting network that already has an exchange server configured. The SBS
Server is configured as a completely seperate domain/forest with Exchange
running. Everything seems to be working ok on the new SBS except sending mail
to and from the other domain. All other emails get sent and delivered ok.
Bother domains are using the same Cisco firewall as the router out on Road
runners network. Both have unique live ips routed to the server. How can I
get mail to be delivered between the two domains? TIA Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134459
Exchange 2003 install error
I got AD going and dns etc... I have 2 existing exchange 5.5 servers. One

E2k3 To new hardware newOS
Planning on moving Existing Eschange 2003 running on Windows Server 2000 to

offline backup and restore procedures (KB 296788)?
Can I just stop the services - do an NTBackup of the Exchange Server's
System State and the Information Store shut down the old box, bring new box
(same name) online and restore? I will of course install Exchange with the
disaster recovery option as well as Forest and Domain prep before restoring.
Just wanted to know if the off-line backup is even necessary. Thanks Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134454

First Exchange install in Forrest
We're setting up Server 2003 in a new domain environment and we're having
trouble installing Exchange.
We have a forest server that is an empty root server (root.com), a DC for
the primary domain (company.com -- which is the only tree in the forrest),
and a member server for Exchange. I have installed forestprep on the root
server, and domain prep on both the root server and the DC. We now want to
install Exchange on the member server at company.com, but the installation
wizard says the user doesn't have the authority to do so and wants us to use
the Exchange Administration Delegation Wizard.
I've tried various combinations of logging on as the enterprise admin, the
domain admin, and the local machine admin plus running setup as the logged on
user or one of the other users and nothing works -- Exchange always has a
reason why the user can't install.
No rights to to the local disk.
No right to install the first Exchange server in the forest.
No right to run forrestpred or a full install.
I've also tried running setup with the /ChooseDC option with the same
results.
Do we have to have the first Exchange server at the root level, and then
install another at the lower domain?

I've setup exchange in a SBS 2003 server to receive mails from the ISP mail
server. Actually I wanted to retrieve mails only applicable to those users
only. ISP maintaining one mail record for that company. (Eg :

in their site to retrieve mails from the same isp account. So I comfit the
server as far to my knowledge and test with a test account. In the test
account I can send mails to outside e-mail accounts but I can't receive
them. And when I check the test e-mail account I don't get any dnr messages.
So I think the mail are getting lost. But I've no idea what's is he problem.

ADC CAs can be deleted when?
I am extremely confused about when we can delete ADC CAs once an AG -- not
the Org just an AG -- is pure E2K3 and no longer contains any 5.5 Servers.
So, I have not deleted any and want to know if/what I can.
We have two pure E2K3 AGs, these are HQ and BO1. We have a Config_CA, user
CA and public folder CA for each. HQ was the first E2K3 AG with the first
E2K3 Server in the Org. I gather from what I read we keep the HQ Config_CA,
as it was the first, until all 5.5 servers in the Org are gone. (We still
have 2 pure 5.5 Sites; these each have Primary user and public folder CAs)
However, can we delete the HQ user and public folder CAs?
BO1 was the second E2K3. Can we delete the Config_CA, user CA and public
folder CA for that AG?
And what about the SRS service running on the E2K3 server in the BO1 AG, can
we stop that? We would still have the SRS running on the HQ E2K3 Server,
which apparently we keep until ready to go native mode.

how to migrate from email outsourcing to an internal Exchange Ser

POP3 connector doesn't deliver after selecting other primary domai
Hi!
I have a SBS 2003 sp0 server using the POP3 connector to bring in e-mail to
Exchange. We added a second domain name to our e-mail system and it is
configured to come in via normal SMTP. Both systems are working fine
together, mail flows properly.
In Users and Computers Manager, I changed everyone's primary e-mail address
from our original domain to our new domain. Ran it for a while, and it seems
the POP connector stopped delivering mail to the mailboxes. I turned on
maximum logging and the POP connector says it is downloading POP mail and
delivering it to the mailboxes without any errors, but the mail does not show
up in the mailboxes. I changed the primary e-mail address back to the
original and mail flowed properly again.
I checked the POP3\Incoming and Failed folders and there are no messages in
them.
My two questions: How can I switch over to use the new domain name as the
primary without breaking the POP3 connector and where else might the
messages have gone to that didn't get delivered?
Thanks so much!!

Exchange 2000 Recipient Policies not applying after removal of last 5.5 server
Dear All,
Setup: Exchange 2000 SP4 with all patches applied (Mixed Mode) on W2K SP4
Member Server with all patches, Windows 2003 AD
It appears that the Recipient Policy is not applying to our users at all.
When a new user is created, no email addresses get added.
I am also having problems getting the Mailbox Management Process working
correctly on all the mailboxes on our Exchange 2000 server, which from what
I understand relies on the Recipient Policy as well.
This started to happen after the removal of our last Exchange 5.5 server
after a migration.
We followed the procedure as laid out on Microsoft website, and from within
various books (Exchange 2000 24/7, etc) so I think that we got it right.
Obviously, something went awry along the way.
I've been working on trying t get this sorted for the past two weeks, so any
help would be appreciated.

Migration quota limit, help plaese !!
Hi, sorry, now with my name
I am trying to migrate mailboxes from a sbs 2003 exchange server to another

If I check program event log I find Error message: 13008 MSExchangeMig. "The
migration of 'Michael' has been stopped after 1002 messages. The mailbox
quota has been exceeded"
Does anyone know a way of prventing it from happening and migrating the

Access denied in ESM for Message Tracking Centre
Hi
Using Exchange Server 2003 SP1 on Windows 2003 SP1
We have 4 Exchange Servers in 2 AGs.
I have installed ESM on my workstation and when I go to the Message tracking
Centre to search I get this error.
I am a domain admin.
I get this error if I make a query using any of the Exchange servers. I can
access the directory \\servere\server.log directly with no problems.
Is there any special permissions required in the Organisation, AG or
Servers, or what permissions are required on in ESM for the Exchange
Servers.

POP Connector- Where can I find out how to set it up?
I just installed (my first) exchange server, and I want to set up (what I
heard is called) a "POP connector". I need to find out how to set up the
client's exchange server so that (for all the mail users in the LAN) the
client's exchange server will collect incoming email from an external POP3
mail server (Empire Data Tech) and send mail through the same external POP3
mail server (Empire Data Tech). I am told that a "POP Connector" is what I
need.
Any tips about where to find material on how to do this would be much
appreciated.

multiple ADC's for multiple Exchange servers in one Site/Org??
We're in the process of migrating from Exchange 5.5 to 2k3. Our
current environment consists of the following:
1 Exchange 5.5 Organization/Site
2 Exchange 5.5 servers. 1 is on the parent domain, the other is in a
child domain.
We would like to migrate mailboxes from the 2 Exchange 5.5 servers onto
one Exchange 2003 server.
Is there any reason to use 2 separate ADC's, one for each Exchange 5.5
server?
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Exchange 5.5 can't send to exchange 2003
We're in the process of migrating from nt4 to server 2003. I have built the
2003 domain (with exchange 2003) and connected both to the same LAN HW. I
also added the DNS servers for both domains as forwarders for DNS queries. I
can send email from the exchange 2003 envirement to the 5.5 but not from the
5.5 to the 2003. I want to get email flowing between the two before
migrating user mail boxes. Thanks for any help.

Can Not recieve external mail
Hi All,
I have installed exchange 2003 onto SBS2003 on a new faster server, on
the old server exchange 2003 was running on SBS2003, so no change
there.
I googled for exchange setup and found some easy to follow
instructions, I also found instructions on how to test the config is
right through telnet.
I can telnet to my Mail.domainname.com and send a test email to
mark@domainname.com but I can not send mail to mark@domainname.com from
hotmail.
If I swap back to my other server all works fine.
I keep the same IP as that is assigned to my router.
I con't work out how I can telnet to my server and send test mail to my
self but I can not recieve it from an external source!!!
any help will be appreachated.
Many Thnaks

Exchange 2000 Server - missing services
Please help!! We've had to perform DisasterRecovery on our Exchange Server.
We've run Domainprep but we can't mount the Information Store. When we look
in Services, the only Exchange service that shows up Microsoft Exchange
Management. The rest of the services are missing. Not stopped - missing. How
do we fix this? We get error C1041721 when we try to click on the information
store.
There are no errors in the Event Viewer.
We have been without mail for 2 days now. Thank you. Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134329
Exchange Migration
Ok Here is my situation:
Company abc.com outsources their mail to blah.com. Blah.com houses mail on
a Exchange 2000 server in a different forest. Abc.com decides to host their
own mail and bring all mail inhouse. They install a new organization into
their forest. What is the best way to accomplish this task?
Here is what I am thinking:
Create a transitive trust between both forest and use exmerge utility to
export then import to the organization.
Is their a better way to do this?

Outlook Web Access - keeping user information even when attempting different logon?
I'm not sure where the issue is. On one computer I have gone into IE6
(latest version/patches) and cleared history, deleted files, deleted
cookies, cleared auto complete. On Mary's computer she can go to OWA after
doing all of that and rebooting but when logging in to OWA as Tom, it still
shows Mary's mailbox.
Any guesses? Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134327
OWA 2003 - HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Hi
While securing my SBS 2000 server running Exchange 2003, I now get the above
error when my users try accessing their mailboxes through OWA.
When looking through the virtual directories from the IIS Manager, i can see
the folder structure and the contents but not from the browser.
I did two things
1. installed automatic updates from the Update site (I have undone all of
these already)
2. I unchecked the "enable parent paths" in the IIS application
configuration tab.
I was warned that it would effect all sites and I went with it...
Once I realized I had broken it, I undid everything above but still no luck.
I also tried the article 829167 to correct a potential problem with he
application pool.
I'm considering reinstalling Exchange and hoping it will keep most, if not
all of my exchange configurations.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated???
Many thanks

Public Folders in the Exchange System Manager
Windows 2003 SP1
Exchange 2003 Sp1
Hi Everyone,
We have just finished installing our first Exchange 2003 into our Exchange
5.5 Site. We have not started to migrate any mailboxes or public folders yet.
When we go into the Exchange System Manager and go to our administrative
Group and view folders and public folders should we be seeing the public
folders that are on the Exchange 5.5 server? It is empty right now.
We also can not see the Exchange 5.5 public folders when we drill down
through our administrative group/servers/exchange 5.5 server/first storage
group/ and public folders.
Should we be able to see these public folders now, or will they show up
after we run the pfmigrate?
There are no errors in the event view relating to this.
Thanks,
Luc Tag: nntp in exchange Tag: 134324
