I am currently running an AD windows 2000 domain. with exchange
server.

for redundancy and for OWA I would like to setup a remote exchange
2003 server in a data center that is basically a mirror or the
exchange server i have on the LAN.
Please could anyone point me to any documentation that references how
to synchonize 2 exchange servers so that the accounts and mail are
identical on both boxes.

Any help appreciated.... Thanks.

What is this for?
You cannot have two Exchange servers on the network mirrored and
synched up in case one fails.
There are some 3rd party applications that enable you to have a
cluster at a remote location or enable a syncing system in case one
server fails.
What is your business requirement (SLA, recoverability etc)

In any case you couldn't set up a server and use it for OWA and then
also have it as some form of standby.

Thanks for the reply.
Due to increased power outages and issues in the office I was looking
for a good way to impliment a remote exchange server that would be
primarily used for owa.

The exchange server would be on a different network than the other
exchange box.

When any of the office users are travelling or at home they would use
the remote exchange server and when in the office they would connect
locally to the other exchange server which i was hoping could exist in
a mirrored environment for mail only.

(Preferred Method) I was thinking about just using 1 exchange server
in the remote datacenter but was worried about connection speed
from/to the office which has T1 . If i choose this route what is the
best connection method for clients to connect to this remote server
from the LAN?

If you can suggest a better solution...I'm all ears!

Thanks again.

Well, power outages affect more than just your Exchange servers so you
need to resolve those issues. You can't just try and bring in a
workaround when the original infrastructure is crumbling. Spend the
money on kit and time on getting the original kit stable.
It's just the way I see it...

Thanks for the reply.
The kit locally is just great with good redundancy in place and doesnt
need any further upgrades...yet. Power outages this year were
unaviodable due to hurricanes and lasted for days. The client doesnt
want to purchase a generator to power his offices but would rather
invest in a good colo so that his workers can continue to work
remotely in these times. Next year when more storms come he wants to
be ready.

Do you think a remote exchange server will work well?
