    - POP3 Download Interval Hello, My question is in regards to the POP3 connector in Exchange 2003. I will be using the connector to send and receive email to a remote office which will also be running SBS 2003 and I was wondering if it is possible to bypass the minimum 15 minute delay for sending/retrieving email to/from a POP3 server.     - Exchange 2000 Woes Okay We're currently deploying a new Exchange 2000 server. It will be sitting behind a linux based firewall, with our domain being handled by our website hosting company. The box is nated, and has the internal address of 192.168.1.5 Currently we are unable to make incoming remote mail, say from hotmail, go to local users, isntead it just queues up. Our domain is (for example) communityhelp.com, with router.communityhelp.com being the external ip of our network. The linux router portworwards all traffic to tcp and udp 25 to 192.168.1.5 (Our exchange server) and allows all traffic out from the exchange server at this point. The linux box is also running a caching dns server, and this is the external dns server exchange is pointed to lookat. I've configured a virtual smtp server to masquared as router.communityhelp.com, established a recepient smtp reciepent policy for @communityhelp.com, verified that the exchange box can properly determine mx's with nslookup (Via both tcp and udp). And I've setup a communityhelp.com smtp connector. We've been battling with this thing for several days now and any assistance will be greatly appreciated. One of my concerns is that it's something to do with the NAT, since obviously when the machine itself tries to reach border.communityfutures.org it cannot becouse it is natted behind that address.     - Upgrade or Full Install I have a client that owns a copy of Exchange 2000. It is not currently installed on the server. I want to install Exchange 2003 on their server. Can I sell them a copy of the upgrade and do a fresh install or do I have to install the Exchange 2000 first to be able to use the upgrade product?     - Problem displaying OWA I certainly hope this isn't a difficult problem to fix. I am having trouble accessing Outlook web access. I just finished an install of SBS2003. On saturday everthing worked fine but on sunday morning I was unable to access OWA. I can load the initial signin screen fine but once i sign in under the premium or basic I get nothing. I have posted an image of the screen that loads at the following link www.amspecsys.com/problem/owa_screen.gif. As you can tell from the image, i get a slight representation of the buttons but no data and loading.... never leaves the data frame of owa. One important note, I installed exchange to a drive that was compressed. I didn't think this would be a great idea, so i disabled the compression after the install.     - Exchange 2003 Web Outlook When users log in to web outlook there is an option for "Premium" or "Basic" login. The "Basic" login works fine and all user mail, contacts etc is there.     - exmerge 5.5 to 2k3 across domains I'm trying to use ExMerge to move mailboxes from a 5.5 exchange box running NT4 (thing1) to a new 2003 exchange on Win2003 (thing2) and I'm getting inadequate permissions errors accessing the 5.5 stores. The domains are trusted and I've added thing2's admin to thing1's administrators/domain admin groups. I've added those groups to stores and server in 5.5 exchange administrator. I've set up so many admin rights on both sides I think exmerge is the only thing that has problems seeing everything on both servers. Still, when I get to the part where it's supposed to list the mailboxes to select from, I get "Error encountered getting mailbox information from the private information store database(s) on server "thing1". Make sure you have adequate permissions on the Information Store object..." I do notice that if I try to select search on the added users I've created in the information stores I get an error "You must first define an Anonymous Account on the DS Site Configuration object before an account can be granted the Search right.".     - Migration from Exchange 2000 (w2k) to new server running Exchange 2003 and windows 2003 I have been unable to find the documenation for the process to migrate from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. I have an older server running Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 (single server AD). I need to replace it with a new server running windows 2003 and Exchange 2003. I have already found the documentation for adding the w2k3 server to the AD and making it a DC. That part is done.     - OWA Hi, My problem is that one important virtual link to the mail box is broken. I'm using German Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 (6.5). To solve the problem I checked the links to the right directory. Unter the standard website you will find the link to exchange mailboxes. Under properties there an important link like \.\\Backoffice. Unfortunately in the right windows there are no mailboxes availble wich can be connected via OWA. This means the virtual link was not installed during the set up. After having spent some hours reading and trying to find more info on the internet, I'm rather clueless of what to do. We're running Exchange 2003 on a WIndows 2003 std server. The server is a dc, and runs dns. TOday I stopped the mail server in order to do some maintenance. Had some hickups there, but got the server online again. In the error log, there are some error messages concerning not finding dns. Seems like it has stopped receiving after getting back online. I can send mail out, but can't receive mail. This is both internal and external. This is what the postmaster@mydomain.no returns to my external email after I've tried to send something to my adress: This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery to the following recipients failed. kaisa@legemiddelsiden.no (think it's more detailed for other recipients.) This is what is says in the application log: A non-delivery report with a status code of 5.0.0 was generated for recipient rfc822;name@mydomain.no (Message-ID <3F26CD4BFAE0FC459DDA64D3F2CAAE5B1E0409@online.no>). Cause: This indicates a permanent failure. Possible causes : 1)No route is defined for a given address space. For example, an SMTP connector is configured, but this recipient address does not match the address spaces for which it routes mail. 2)Domain Name Server (DNS) returned an authoritative host not found for the domain. 3)The routing group does not have a connector defined û mail from one server in the routing group has no way to get to another routing group. Solution: Verify that this error is not caused by a DNS lookup problem, and then check the address spaces configured on your STMP connectors.     - Error during setup I'm trying to setup exchage anf all goes well with thte installation. When it tries to finialise the settings it tries to read a file called server.ins on the cd. It throws out the error message " cannot read from file d:\server\setup\i386\server.ins at or around line 205, path specified not found" I can look at this file fine and read from it, but setup can't, anyone ever seen this ? I get all the way through the install of MS Search and MS Exchange and get partially through the "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" portion of the install... but get stuck when the install fails to find a file called closedexpectedcontentclasses_s.xml. I did a search on the Cd I am installing from and I did find closedexpectedcontentclass.xml But the file the installation is asking for is "closedexpectedcontentclasses_s.xml" not "closedexpectedcontentclass.xml" Other than a possible spelling issue, anyone know if there is a difference in files ...     - IDQ, IDA, HTX files cannot be placed on a network share? Hi all, I am new to index/iis server 5.0. Currently a virtual web site is hosting on iis 5.0 server but all of its files are on a different server, on a file server. The index service is also installed on the IIS server. A catalog is configured on the IIS server, but all IDQ, IDA, and HTX files are on the root of the web site which are the file server. When I can access the default page just fine, but when I do a search I get an error message "IDQ, IDA, HTX files cannot be placed on a network share" Are there any workaround that alow me to fix this problem without moving the whole web files to the IIS server.     - Groupshield and GFI Running Exch 2000 with Network Associates Groupshield for Exchange 5.2 and GFI Mail Essentials 9.0 on Win 2000 server. Anyone done an upgrade to Win 2003 and Exchange 2003 with these installed? I see on NAI's site that Groupshield is not supported on Win 2003 running Exch 2000, but it says nothing about after upgrading. It is supported on Exch 2003 on Win 2003. GFI does support Exch 2003 on Win 2003 Trying to see if I can just upgrade Win2000 to 2003, then upgrade Exch 2000 to 2003 with Groupshield and GFI installed. Will this create problems or should I bring up a new Win 2003 server, install exch 2003, then reinstall GFI and Groupshield, then move the mailboxes. I'd really hate to do this....     - exchange 2003 will not send mail to mail to hotmail.com i've upgraded my windows2000/exchange2000/domain controller single server to windows2003/exch2003. After upgrade I am unable to send mail to hotmail.com mailboxes. I can mail other domains and receive from all incl. hotmail. No errors are logged upon sending a test mail. Using message tracking center, it appears my mail is delivered to the hotmail.com mailserver. At that moment dcom logs a 10009 error in the computers systemlog stating; DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer mc8-f8.hotmail.com using any of the configured protocols.     - permission problems Hi all, have problems after migrating subdomain to ex2000. Parent domain: W2k mixed mode, ex 5.5 (exchange=1org, 1 site) Subdomain: W2k native mode, ex 2000. When I try to open mailboxes with ex-admin account from parent domain in subdomain I get the message that I´ve no permission. Admin account from subdomain is able to access all mailboxes. Another problem is that I get id´s 1022 and 9562 in eventlog everytime a user from ex 5.5 sends email to receipients in ex 2000. ADC in parentdomain seems to work fine.     - Removing ADC and E2k3 from first E2k3 server!!! I am having hardware problem after finishing the E2k3 server installation. My Dell PE4400 rebooting itself every 3 or 4 hours due to bug on WS2003, error 0xd1 - even apply the hotfix 823728. My only choice is install the E2k3 on the other server. Here is my environment setup.. one E5.5 running on Windows 2000 server, one trouble E2k3 server on WS2003 with ADC. What is the recommendation to attack this problem Uninstall E2k3 and uninstall ADC or install another E2k3 and use the existing ADC(this phase is kind of scary since ADC will go down at any momment and when move mailbox to the new E2k3 server. I installed the 120 day trial of Ent Exc 2003 in December and yesterday used my media kit from my Enterprise Exchange Software Assurance purchase to reinstall. I did this assuming this would remove the time limitation. I expected to be asked for license number or told to activate, but it worked without any questions from me. So, is that it? Is software assurance somehow different (since MS has the licensing info on their web site already) in that it does not require activation? Did I miss something?     - automatic '?' character generated in all sent emails?! I believe I have the weirdest problem in SBS2003/Exchange. All emails sent by administrator (and no other user!), whether through OWA or Outlook2003 have a '?' character inserted automatically in the body. The '?' only shows up after the email is sent and not when creating a new message. I am at a loss to figure out why this might be happening.     - Exchange 2003 setup problem I am having a frustrating problem at the start of installation, after accepting the license agreement it asks for the Service Account information on the existing 5.5 servers. The User name and Domain boxes are greyed out, only the passwordbox is editable, and I can't get past this screen. I type in the password for the service account and it tells me "The account must be valid before contuing". I am trying to install on Windows 2003 server and join an existing 5.5 organization on NT 4 sp6. I have followed the entire checklist with no problems. All logs check out and ADC is replicating.     - Log and Database Layout I have a new Exchange 2003 server that I am currently ready to put into production. The question I still have is: how can I configure the log files and the database to gain the best performance. The server has 1 RAID 1 (mirror) volume that the operating system and the Exchange binaries are located on. I also have 1 RAID 5 (strip w/parity) volume that is empty. Will I gain performance from moving the log files to the empty RAID 5 volume or the database files?? Or will not gain anything because the RAID 1 volume contains the operating system?     - Exchange 5.5 to 2k3 connectivity Ok, here's the set up. I have an NT 4 domain. My ex svr is running on a w2k box and the exc version is 5.5sp4 I have a 2003 domain which is on the same LAN but a different subnet. There is a working 2 way trust between the two domains. I have used the ADC to create a one way connection between the 5.5 and 2003 environment. This works. I now have a load of disabled accounts in the windows 2003 domain which correspond to the 5.5 environment. Now here is the question. I can use the "move mailbox" facility to move mailboxes between the 5.5 and 2003 exc servers. This certainly moves the mailbox as expected BUT the recipient who has had their mailbox moved disappears from the 5.5 recipient list. I would have thought that as the two servers were in the same organisation the location of the actual mailbox would not have mattered. Hi have a migration problem
from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003
when running the migartion tool in exchange 2003
I get the following error in the 2003 server

A mailbox could not be found in the target directory with
the address 'x500:/o=Headington Oil Co.,
Denver/ou=denver.headington.com/cn=Recipients/cn=AlP'.

and no account will be migrated
any idea how I can solve my problem
