Showing SCL Rating in Archive Emails - "ContentFilter" registry key doesn't exist on my server
Hi. We're running SBS 2003. We're using Exchange 2003 SP2. I wanted
to turn on the ability to store the SCL rating in Archived emails, but
in the directions I'm supposed to go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter
And then I'm supposed to add a DWORD Value, but I don't have a
"ContentFilter" key. So I created one and then added the DWORD Value
of "ArchiveSCL" and modified the value to be "1", but I still don't
get the SCL rating in the archived emails.
Was this key "ContentFilter" supposed to be there already? Any ideas
why it wasn't if it was supposed to be there? Thanks. Tag: migrate from mdaemon to exchange 2003 Tag: 161377

Exchange 2007 mailbox corruption
We upgraded to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 2000 about 7 weeks ago. So far we
have had 4 mailbox corruptions that have been very strange. The corruption
only effects Outlook (Outlook 2003) and OWA works correctly.
We have one user that is using Outlook and everything has been fine for the
past 7 weeks. All of a sudden Outlook keeps on disconnecting her from the
server. We tried to connect to another mail account from that machine and all
worked well. We then tried her account on different machines (one being mine)
and we get the same issue. We try Outlook Web Access and everything works
well.
So it seems to be something that follows the account around that has to deal
with the Outlook connection. Is there any way to remove all Outlook knowledge
from a mailbox so Outlook can sync up again just like it was a brand new
account?
BTW - we deleted the mailbox from her account and re-added it to no avail.
It only seems to go away if we delete the account totally and recreate it.
Unfortunately all local users then have issues because of Outlook remembering
the SID from the old user account and not the new one, thus we have some
trouble sending to her.
Any ideas on how we can blow away any Outlook knowledge from these accounts? Tag: migrate from mdaemon to exchange 2003 Tag: 161374

Two-way adc connectors exchange 5.5 <-> 2003
Hello all,
i have just a question about the configuration of ADC.
We have just installed exchange 2003 and configured it in our exchange
5.5 site, in this site there are 3 exchange 5.5 servers.
My question is do i need to create a two-way connector for each of my
exchange 5.5 servers ? it seems that i tried to change the 5.5 server
name in the connector configuration, and my two exchange 5.5 seems to
be up to date on the replication but the third 5.5 is not up to date.
So do i need to create 3 connectors on ADC to my 3 exchange 5.5
servers ?
Many thanks Tag: migrate from mdaemon to exchange 2003 Tag: 161372
2 ExSrv for one Domain
Hello!
I want to set up an second exchange-server in our domain, because to
improve the local access for a part of the users.
Currently there are one Exchange 2007 Srv, standard edtion.
My config idea:
All users are member of the same AD-domain, all users have the same
mail-domain.
user1, user2 and user3 have there mailbox on Ex1-server
user3, user4 and user5 have there mailbox on Ex2-server
the first mx-entry of the mail-domain points on Ex1.
On ex1 the maildomain is configured as internal-relay-domain and the
smtp-connector for the maildomain points to Ex2. All other
smtp-connections are routed to the default gateway (INET).
the second msx-entry of teh mail-domain points on Ex2.
On ex3 the maildomain is configured as internal-relay-domain and the
smtp-connector for the maildomain points to Ex1. All other
smtp-connections are routed to the default gateway (INET).
Is it possible?
So it would be possible to reach all internal users?
If one of teh servers isn't available the other server would saved mails
in the queuy?
If an receipiant isn't available on both servers (eg wrong mail address)
I get an error message or get I an mail loop between both servers?

ADC connector agreement error Ex 5.5 to Ex 2003 migration
Goal. To migrate Ex5.5 mailboxes and NT4 domain users to a NEW DOMAIN
and Exchange 2003.
So we have two forests right? There is already a 2 way trust in
place.
Mistake. When installing Ex2k3 the existing Ex5.5 org was joined.
This proved to not work since we are trying to go to a new domain.
Roll back. E2k3 was uninstalled and so was ADC. setup /removeorg was
used to clean up AD of the e2k3 install. ADSI edit was used to remove
the Ex5.5 org name from AD.
Start over. E2k3 was re-installed into a NEW exchange org. ADC was
re-installed.
New Problem. The ADC connection agreement wizard will not complete.
I want a connection agreement so that mail will flow to both exchange
environment while we slowly move users over.
Error: The organization o="NewExOrg" is already installed into this
forest but the configured 5.5 server is a member of organization
o="Ex55org". Please choose a 5.5 server in the correct Org.

Best way to setup Web mail using Exchnage?? ISA ?? help
Hello Everyone.
I am looking at setting up a web mail features for the company I am
currently working for. At present we are running Exchange 2003 Server in a
single domain enviroment, My boss suggested we should enable web mail
features to allow our Senior management to access that e-mail via the web, If
they like it then we can spent the money and buy a more power server and
software for this project. I understand it is unsecure to open port on the
firewall to allow user connecting from the outtside world to the internal
exchange server. I also read is not the best option to have the front end
server on the DMZ connect to the backend Exchnage server. I was told best to
use ISA server. unfortunate I have no experience in this area, I am hoping
someone here may be able to point me to the right direction for this setup
and configuration

Implementing SPF Record Concern
I have 18 District Offices and the Main Office who are on our Exchange
Server. Each District Office has their own local DSL connection. Each
District Office has Outlook setup so both POP and SMTP are our server AND in
the Outlook Advanced Section they have the connection setup to require
Authentication with "Use Same Settings as my Incoming" with the Logon Using
and their LogonID and Password are set as well. This setup is to make sure
they send and receive via our Exchange server even though they are on other
DSL ISP's.
I would like to implement a SPF record but want to make sure this would not
cause a problem with my folks. Do you see any reason for concern? If so,
what is the concern and what is the workaround?

Equipment Upgrade
I need advice and maybe be pointed to resources to read up on making a move.
My Exchange 2003 Server has a mirror C drive and Raid 5 D drive. The C
drive is down to 3 GB free space so I must install larger drives for the C
drive mirror.
My issue is what's the best way to make this upgrade? I would like to keep
the same server name and IP Address if possible. I am thinking the way to
do this would be to dismount the mailbox and public stores, move both stores
to a file server for safe keeping, remove Exchange, remove the server from
the domain, install 2 new larger C hard drives, format the C and D drives,
Install Windows 2003 using the same name and IP Address as before, set it up
as a domain controller, install Exchange, dismount and delete the default
mailbox and public stores, move the stores back to the Exchange server, and
bring the stores back online. However, I know it can't be that simple.
So - what's the best way to do this if I want to keep the same Exchange
Server name and IP Address? OR is it simply dumb to try and keep the same
server name? If I can't keep the name can I at least keep the IP Address?
What do you suggest?
Thanks - NC Beach Bum

Setup new exch server in a domain where an exch server exists
Hi
I have a domain with an SBS 2003 server, Terminal server and a fileserver.
there will soon be more than 75 users on the LAN so I intend to use a
transition pack to convert the SBS box to full version standard server
products and add more standard licenses.
The SBS box also has SQL server installed and its under pressure so after
transition I want to add a new box to the domain and move the exchange server
installation to the new box.
Having read various articles on migration and swing installations I think i
would prefer to do a fresh install on the new box and use exmerge to move the
mailboxes to the new server.
I realise that this means extracting the mailboxes, uninstalling exchange
server from the transitioned SBS, installing the new exchange server and
importing the mailboxes again. Also I know that I would have to setup the
exchange account on all client PCs.
1. When I uninstall the existing exchange server (after extracting the
mailboxes) does this remove all traces of exchange resources from Active
directory?
2. When I install the new installation, will it "find" any traces of the old
exchange server perhaps causing conflicts?
3. Is this method I intend to use viable?

RPC Ops / Sec (a bit spikey)
RPC Requests (low >5)
Physical disk: Avg Disk sec/read & write both under .002

Processor Processor time 23%
I have also noticed that there's a message to a distribution group in the

Exchange 2007 Installation Issue: "setup /PrepareSchema"
I have two Windows Server 2000 SP4 domain controllers. (Server1 and
Server2) Server2 also has Exchange 2003 SP2 installed on it.
I want to get Exchange 2007 going. So I setup a new Server (Server3)

transferred all the FSMO roles and Global Catalog over so it's now the
primary domain controller. The original domain controller was
Server1, a Windows 2000 Server.
I created a Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2 Server that will be used for
Exchange 2007. When I run setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions I
get no errors:

Exchange Server setup encountered an error.
I am not sure why it is looking for the old primary domain
controller, Server1. It should look at Server3 which is Windows
2003. All the FSMO roles have been properly copied over. The event
viewer stated this when I transferred the roles over. I even ran
netdom query pdc and netdom query fsmo and it all points to Server3.
Any idea why when I try to install Exchange 2007 or run setup /

EDGE implementation

edge role with no errors and also went through the edge subscription. I
tested the subscription on the hub transport using start-edgesynchronization
and it passed fine. I see the connectors that were created as well. The
problem is that I cannot send mail to the outside. The mail bounces back

Attachment Filter Agent not found
Hello,
I'm using exchange 2007 and have all the roles in 1 server. I want to
enable the "Attachment filter Agent" in the Hub Transport Role.
I'm using the following shell command:
Enable-TransportAgent -Identity "Attachment Filter agent"
But I get the following error message:
Enable-TransportAgent : Transport Agent "Attachment Filter agent" is not
found.
Parameter name: Identity
At line:1 char:22
* Enable-TransportAgent <<<< - Identity "Attachment Filter agent"
Any Help will be appreciated.
thank you

Exchange 2003 and ActiveSync on SBS2003??
Im getting ready to try and roll out ActiveSync here and I just wanted to
make sure I have it the correct steps down. Is this what needs to be done?
1. Make sure ActiveSync is enabled on the Exchange server under Exchange
Manager.
2. Create a self signed cert or get one from a 3rd party.
3. Copy cert to device and install cert.
4. Install ActiveSync on users desktop
Is this correct or am I missing anything? Tag: migrate from mdaemon to exchange 2003 Tag: 161238
Public Folder replication questions
I'm migrating from Exchange 2000 to 2003 via move mailbox.
Right now I'm replicating the public folders and found that after adding the
new server to the replications tab, the old server shows the status as local
modifed or both modified and the new server shows as in sync. Since the new
server shows the status as in sync that means it is replicated?
Also, I replicated the Schedule + Free Busy to the new server (the mailboxes
have not yet been moved). I logon to my Outlook and tried to vew free /busy
information for other users and it says "no free /busy information can be
retrieved". Is this because the mailboxes have not been moved to the new
server?
Lastly, on the top Public Folder in the "Public stores associated to the
folder tree" section, it still shows the 2000 server as well as the 2003
sever. Do I have to remove the Exchange 2000 server from this tab?
Thanks to all! Tag: migrate from mdaemon to exchange 2003 Tag: 161237
set up with /Disasterrecovery
I'm testing it for our DR plan. Our production server is running on Windows
2003 Enterprise Edition, Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition. The DR server I
plan to use is running Widnws 2003 Standard Edition, which will support
Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edtion. But to use /disasterrcovery switch do I
need to reinstall the DR server to Enterprise Edition? All the documents I
read said to use "same OS". I assume that means same version of OS and same
version of Edtion. Am I correct?

Configuration Setup
I have noticed in the current session in my default SMTP virtual server I
see several people/Ip Address showing up and i also see several items in my
outbound queue. Does this mean someone has found a way to send emails through
my server even though I do not have an open relay?
Is there something someone can have me check to make sure I am not making
myself vulnerable?
Thanks,

Not creating mailboxes
Hi
Can some of you please help me with this 'problem'
How can I prevent a group of helpdesk users to be able to create and
delete mailboxes on one or more particular mailstores? (Exchange 2003)
Can't be that difficult though? Only i didn't find the solution yet

Exchange 2003 bounces e-mails to specific domain?
Hi All,
our exchange 2003 works fine, but I discovered that it would not send
e-mails to specific domain, with the followind errror:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: here comes the subject
Sent: 17-09-2007 10:06
The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:
address@TheDomain.com on 17-09-2007 10:06
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For
assistance, contact your system administrator.
< mail.ourserver.local #5.7.1 smtp; 550 5.7.1
address@TheDomain.com... Relaying denied. Proper authentication
required.>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another "funny" thing is that after I tried several times with several
e-mail addresses, I got the errors in our local language (Danish).
What could that be? We don't have any form for filtering on the exchange. We
do have an SMTP scanner in front of the exchange (MIME sweeper),having that
server configured in our virtual SMTP as smart host, but that shouldn't be
the problem - I removed the smart host, and I get the error again.

setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions fails to run
We are testing Exchange 2007 evaluation on Ms Virtual Server, (prior to an
imminent production installation), with a physical E2k box on W2k, and
virtual Domain controller running W2k3, and virtual E2k7 (to be) box running
W2k3.
All preparations have been made prior to running setup
/preparelegacyexchangepermissions /prepareschema, /preparead. Dotnet 2.0,
windows powershell, and mmc 3.0 have all been installed.
Also W2k3 SP2 has been installed and IE enhanced security has been turned off.
However the setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions fails to run from the
command line, and returns to cmd prompt. On trying to run E2k7 from GUI, the
following error msg is returned:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line 263&..
Error: the system cannto locate the resource specified
URL: file://c:Documents and Settings\mylogin\local settings\temp\default.htm
The line on the specified page reads:
el.filters.item(0).src = el.src;
Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem, and get setup working?
