    - Problematic Outlook 2003 Installation Hi There! We installed a New SBS 2003 Server Patched fully. We created a new blank Exchange 2003 System and the priv1.edb file was 200KB. We uploaded 7GB of PST Files to the server, and everything seemed to be working fine. Next day the private store was dismounted and the server complaining we had reached our 16GB Limit. How can this be? We then deleted everything from everyone's trash (about 6000-8000 Items in total) and did an offline defrag, expecting the size to drop reasonably, but the size didn't change at all. How can that be? I am deeply concerned as this should not be the case surely? these guys are crippled now, because they were working fine with pop accounts on standalone outlook and now basically can't operate..     - Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration problem Hi, I'm trying to migrate my mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 server using Migration Wizard but it fails on me. I need your help, please advise. Background: I have an Exchange 5.5 with SP4 running on Windows 2000 member server of a domain called texas.us.mydomain.com. Users are located in this "texas" domain and everything in this domain works fine, no known problems. The Exchange server's organization name is "org", the site name is "site". There is an ADC between Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5, this ADC is installed very recently as part of the Exchange 2003 installation. I installed a new Exchange 2003 Enterprise server on Windows 2003 server which is a member of parent domain called us.mydomain.com. The FQDN name of the Exchange if mail.us.mydomain.com. Everything is working on this domain as well as the users of us.mydomain.com can sent and receive email. Also, I have created some mailboxes on the new Exchange "mail" for the users of users of texas.us.mydomain.com. Everything is fine, at least I don't see any problems so far except when migrating the mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to 2003. Problem: Using Exchange Migration Wizard, I cannot just move the mailboxes, when I do, I get "Migration Failed" error message in the event log. I run the Connection Agreement Wizard found in the ADC and it gives me an error indicating that my organization name of Exchange 5.5 doesn't match the organization of Exchange 2003. Questions: 1) Does this mean, I will have to change the organization name of Exchane 5.5 to match the Organization of 2003? If so, is there a safe method to do this. 2) Is it not possible to migrate from different organization of Exchange 5.5 to newer organization of Exchange 2003? Thank you in advance. Brian Selva.     - Exchange setup incoming email not going to client I am running Exchange as part of Windows SBS server. The internal email works correctly. Users can send email out through the server, the return mail is added to the users mailbox ( checked using server manager ) but when the user logs on he only receives the internal emails. I checked the active directory and both email ( local and .com) are included. I checked the Receipient Policy and the external address is included.     - Server reboots upon Exch SP1 installation?!? I am performing unattended installs of Exchange 2003 SP1, and when the service pack is installed, it gets part way through the install, and then reboots the server - as if I had clicked shut down > restart. The post reboto optionis set to 0 int he unattend.ini file, so i don't believe that it the cause... the biggest problem is that it reboots before it finishes the update.     - exchange 2003 transaction logs Hi, I just built a exchange 2003 server and used exmerge to import mail into the server. There was approx 25 gig of pst files. During the end of the exmerge the transaction logs filled up the drive and killed the exmerge.     - RPC over HTTP on a cluster server Hi all, I got an Exchange 2003 cluster (2 node A/P mode) on Windows Server 2003 , and now I want to setup the rpc over http service. What is the correct configuration I should do on the Exchange server? I don't want to setup a front-end server since a budget problem. I read some article said it's not recommanded to setup the rpc proxy service on a cluster box, is that true? What can I do?     - Exchange 2003 - Hotmail - Junk Folder Hi Got informed that some users were not getting email from our domain to their hotmail addresses. Seems that the emails are getting to hotmail fine but are going straight to the 'junk' folder - This is happenning on all hotmail addresses - Does anyone know why this might be? The exchange box is on the LAN and the firewall is forwarding SMTP stuff to this machine however NAT happens both ways so the outbound connections also go through the NAT'd IP - The server name in the banner and the rev DNS also match.     - Exch setup recommendations Hello, I would like some thoughts on the best way to arrange an Exchange install using the given hardware. I know the following disk arrangement is not ideal for optimal performance, but this is the hand I've been dealt and it's not going to be changed. We only have about 50 users, but e-mail usage is pretty intense. I have 3 SATA Raptor drives that will be in a Raid 5 array, as well as 2 IDE drives that will be software mirrored. Is it best to put the OS and log files on the software mirrored drives, and the exchange databases on the Raid 5? What about the exch application and the page file? I wish I had a better setup to work with, but I want to make the most of what I have. It is possible I guess that I might get a hold of a 3rd set of drives (SATA, RAID1). If this were to happen, what would be best? The IDE drives are what I'm most concerned about, what piece will suffer least by being on this software mirror? Thanks! Background We have two exchange servers, the first of which was installed on Windows2000 with Exchange 2000, we have subsequently added another server on a Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003, but leaving the active directory on windows 2000. The problem probably occurred (about 3 month ago) when I was testing how to create an exchange 2000 server on a child domain. I created the child domain and installed exchange without any errors but could not mount a mailbox store. I trawled through the Microsoft knowledge base could not find a resolution to my problem ( I ran most of the diagnostics tools netdiag etc but could still find no clue as to why it was not working). I removed the exhange server manually as it would not let me uninstall and removed the record from active directory using the exchange system manager and right clicking and deleting it. ADSI EDIT shows that it seems to have been removed correctly. I was trying the test again this time creating an exchange 2000 server on the same domain but on a different site when I realised that I could not mount a store on either of our main Exchange servers.     - Exchange setup: reinstall and remove does not work. Hi, I'm trying to uninstall an Exch2k server in a remote site. Experience has thought me that it is impossible to do any tasks (install, uninstall, update, install servicepacks) if the schema master is in another site (with another subnet). Is there a work around, because the moving around of the schema master is not really advisable and very difficult, since it is almost always necessary to seize the role (AD remains working fine after seizing the role).     - exchange 2003 FE/BE on cluster with windows 2003 using sites Dear All, I am having a windows 2003 entriprise ed. DC and exchange 2003 entrprise ed. server in a FE/BE configuration. The DC & exchange BE sit on the internal LAN. FE sits in the DMZ . BE is clustered using SAN as storage. windows is sp1 with all updates and exchange is sp1 with all critical updates. I have many project sites and whenever a new site is added to the Active Directory Sites & services, my exchange servers on restarting will not bring up the exchange cluster services.     - No email address for new users Help Hi Using Exchange 2003 SP1, When I create a new user in ADUC, and create a Mailbox, and waiting for replication etc, there is no email addresses being populated for this user. By default I have the automatically update based on recipoent policy turned on. This started to happen today after the network people went and changed our IP network address, the Exchange servers have a different IP numbers now. I have stopped and restarted the IIS services. All seems to work, mail is being sent and received by existing users. This affects on new users created since the change. No errors being reported. We have a FE/BE setup. Any help ?     - POP3 Connection Question Hello all.... I have a SBS 2000 server that hosts a domain.com.au. I just changed ISPs, and for now what they have done is forwarded all of my domain.com.au mail to the IPS account email address. The company only consists of 6 email addresses, so this isnt a big deal. I did check the Exchange Connector for POP3 Mail. And set it up, it is working (using the Global ISP Mail Hosts, and its working very well... One small question, IF the ISP email address gets emails that arent directed to my domain.com.au (or are directed to the actual IPS email address) what does my exchange server do with this mail? I tested it by sending my ISP account an email (addressed to the ISP account). The exchange server picked up all the mail in the account, and now the test message is gone... I dont know where it is on the exchange server. Is anyone able to tell me where it has gone? The reason for all of this, is that any DNS or domain changes I make with my ISP have to be sent via their ISP account. Which is all fine, as i do it via webmail.     - Exchange 2K3 on a DC Hi All, I have exchange 2k3 installed on a win2k3 DC, is it ok to tweak the memory settings i.e add the /3gb & /userva switches to the boot.ini ??     - IMF for Exchange 2003 - Best Practises I have IMF running on my Exchange 2003 server and have been monitoring the spam that is being archived. I'm comfortable with the settings and what is being filtered so I no longer want to archive. Would be better to set spam to be deleted or bounce it back to the sender? I realize that most spam uses bogus return addresses so bouncing the spam would be just redirecting crap to inocent people, but if the very odd message is legit, at least the sender can see that the message did not go through and can follow up with us.     - email receiving issues with one client I'm having an email problem with a pairing of two clients: - client A can receive internet mail and Exchange mail from other users with the exception of client B just fine - client B can receive all internal and external mail just fine - client B can send send all external mail and all internal mail to all users (exception client A) just fine - client A cannot receive (domain) internal mail from client B (but everybody else), it seems to disappear in nowhere land.     - Exchange Single Server not sending external email Well it will send external email via SMTP if I allow anonymous relaying, but otherwise, it won't authenticate any of the users via the exchange mail engine or via SMTP. In those cases, I continue to get errors. This is a new installation of Exchange 2003 SP1 installed on Win2003 server SP1. I have done a bunch of SBS installs, and this particular company should of gotten SBS as well, but they didn't. Anyways, I am trying to emulate an SBS installation on a single server here. The company has external DNS hosting for their domain and I will have them point their mail to the server which will reside inside their network. I have already allowed the proper ports through the firewall. Thh domain has been setup with an internal domain name so that it won't interfer with the external domain and so they won't need to worry about syncronising DNS internally and externally. The error message I am getting when trying to send email is: You message did not reach the following recipient(s): some@externaldomain.com on Sat, 16 Jul 2005 15:39:21 +1000 The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and try again. <servername.mydomain.internal #5.1.8 smtp;553 5.1.8 <testuser@mydomain.internal>... Domain of sender address testuser@mydomain.internal does not exist> I tried setting up an SMTP connector to forward all email to the ISP mailserver but that hasn't made any difference. Remember I have been able to send email externally via the Exchange server if I allow anonymous relaying and then use an SMTP client (still not via the exchange engine). This is really sounding like a permissions issue, but I haven't been able to figure it out.     - OWA File Templates The Exchange Admin before me modified our OWA templates for a custom look. Soon after the IT manager fired him and I have been hired with the project assignment to restore OWA back to it's original look. I was told the modified files are the only files on the server since he deleted the original OWA template files. I don't want to reinstall our Exchange serve to do this ~ just replace his customized OWA template files with standard OWA template files copied from the Exchange install CD. Can you tell me what folder OWA template files reside on an Exchange Server and where and how can I get the OWA template files from the Exchange install CD.     - Multiple Organisations Question Hi I currently have multiple AD schemas and multiple Exchange Organisatrions 8 AD Domains 3 Exchange Organisations We wish to standardise the platform and roll out Exchange across the whole organisations. As well as this we eventually aim to have a single schema and messaging organisation However, as thats a milestone away we wish to continue with the initial phases. This is to ensure all companies within the group have a single messaging platform. Now what I was thinking of doing was to create a single new AD schema as a Exchange Forest and then create trusts from all the other domains to this. This would allow for single messaging directory, calendar functionality and serve the immediater requirements. Going down the road we aim to then create a NEW source domain and then collapse all the other domains into OU's. We would then also use 3rd party tools and migrate the Exchange organisation to the new domain......... Would the new Exchange Forest solution work?..I am 99% certain this is the route to take but wanted to know of any real world problems that may arise fromt his?     - OWA Broken after SP1 upgrade We have a Windows 2003 Standard Server running SP1 When upgrading to Exchange SP1, after reboot. Outlook Web Access is no longer working. I get a 404 not found error. In addition if I go into System Manager -> Administrative Groups -> First Administrative Group ->Servers -><SERVERNAME> -> First Storage Group -> Public Folder Store -> Public Folders and select properties for a public folder I get the error message: The object is no longer available. Press F5 to refresh the display, and then try again. ID no:80040e19 Exchange System Manager And if I try to list them through First Storage Group -> Folders -> Public Folders - the list is blank.     - Wierded out by Outlook Web Access... Hey All... this is what happened on my business trip: 1. At my hotel, could do everything (incl. delete) EXCEPT send emails using IE (would let me type it, but not send it) 2. At my hotel, COULD send emails using Firefox Tracked down a Japanese KB article which said specifically that I had to install East Asian fonts on my Exchange server to send emails using a Japanese laptop. Did this today, but have NOT rebooted. Still, dont see why I could send emails using Firefox and not IE though... Anyway, just tried accessing using my Japanese laptop from home, and CAN now send emails using it via IE. Do you guys think this is the East Asian font "effect" though the server has NOT yet been rebooted, or do you think it`s some kind of firewall/config problem?     - Looking to understand Exch 2003 GAL to Outlook configuration In our Exch 2003 site, we've got 2 GALs, the Default GAL and one that was created with our organization name. I experimented with deleting the one created for our organization, thinking the Default GAL would be more than enough for displaying the GAL in our Outlook address book.     - OWA FE/BE 404 Error So I have a FE/BE Win2k3/WinSBS2k3 configuration that is working great. Mail is deliverd to the FE and it is delivered to the BE just fine. All of the RPC pinging, and DSAccess discovery is turned off. The FE sits in a DMZ with access rules between it at the WAN and it and the BE server on the LAN. Mail is sending and receiving just fine. Now I wanted to offer OWA to my clients, which was up and running fine, but I made some change (I assume it was me...) and now I get a HTTP 404 error whenever I try to access https://mydomain/exchange. The funny thing about this is that if I type https://mydomain/public I get the typical log in and can access the public folders just fine. Additionally, if I type https://mydomain/exchange/<username> I can access user's mail boxes just fine. So what can I do to get https://mydomain/exchange to work? I will be setting up a Router to Router VPN. I want the two offices to be in the same forest, possibly as a domain w/ subdomains. Once the VPN is configured properly, I understand that I can join a Windows 2003 Server to a SBS 2000 domain. However, I am unsure how Exchange behaves with this. I don't think another Exchange server can be part of a SBS 2000 domain. Here is what I need to know: Can I Join Office 2 to Office 1's domain as a subdomain, and keep Exchange separate?     - Exch2k3 cluster keeps failing! Need urgent help please... I am having *major* issues with my exchange cluster today, and I don't know what else to do. I have a 2-node A/P exch2k3 cluster, and all of a sudden the "smtp virtual server instance" would go into an "online-pending" state. Once this happens, everyone loses their connection to the server. After a while, it goes from online-pending, to failed. That problem is bad enough, but another problem is that, it didn't failover to the next node, and I've run diagnostics on the server nodes, and they seem to be fine hardware-wise. These nodes are connected to an HP StorageWorks SAN, and HBA is Emulex LP9002. For troubleshooting sake, here's what shows up in the event log: Event ID: 1014: SMTP Virtual Server Instance 1 (servername): IsAlive checking for this resource failed due to timeout Event ID: 1005 SMTP Virtual Server Instance 1 (servername): The IsAlive check for this resource failed. Event ID: 1010 SMTP Virtual Server Instance 1 (servername): Failed to start the service 'SMTPSVC'. I then have to do a cold boot of *both* nodes to get it back. Then the SMTP fails again, and it's back to square 1. I'm stuck... can somoene please shed some light on this problem for me? I need to create a mailbox in Exchange 2003, but don't want the hassle of
creating a user just to create a mailbox. Is it possible to create a mailbox
that two people have access to, without creating another user? I've not found
any means of doing this in Exchange 2003 (I have looked in the 'help') so if
this is possible, please let me know how.

No. Create a mail enabled user, disable it and configure the users
accounts to have appropriate permission to same.
