    - OWA - SSL exchange 2003 I am trying to Setup OWA to use SSL, I am using the following from 2003 Exchange Server deployment guide chapter 8. I have installed certificate server and created and install my own certificate. After doing below steps, I receive message from browser that Cannot find server - The page cannot be dislpayed - check network settigs I think I am missing something but I am not sure. To set up SSL on a server 1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, and then expand the Web Sites folder. Right-click the Web site or file that you want to protect with SSL, and then click Properties. 2. Under Web site identification, click Advanced. 3. In the Advanced Web site identification box, under Multiple identities for this Web site, verify that the Web site IP address is assigned to port 443 (the default port for secure communications), and then click OK. Optionally, to configure more SSL ports for this Web site, click Add under Multiple identities of this Web site, and then click OK. 4. On the Directory Security tab, under Secure communications, click Edit. 5. In the Secure Communications box, select the Require secure channel (SSL) check box. If you require 128-bit key encryption, your users must use Web browsers that support 128-bit encryption. For information about upgrading to 128-bit encryption capability, see the Microsoft Product Support Services Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=14898). I have allso tried this Enabling SSL for the Default Web Site After you obtain an SSL certificate to use either with your Exchange front-end server on the default Web site or on the site where you host the \RPC, \OMA, \Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, \Exchange, \Exchweb, and \Public virtual directories, you can enable the default Web site to require SSL. Note The \Exchange, \Exchweb, \Public, \OMA, and \Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directories are installed by default on any Exchange 2003 installation. The \RPC virtual directory for RPC over HTTP communication is installed manually when you configure Exchange to support RPC over HTTP. For information about how to set up Exchange to use RPC over HTTP, see "Configuring RPC over HTTP for Outlook 2003" later in this chapter. To require SSL 1. In Internet Information Services (IIS), select the Default Web site or the Web site where you are hosting your Exchange services, and then click Properties. 2. On the Directory Security tab, in Secure Communications, click Edit. 3. In Secure Communications, click the Require Secure Channel (SSL) check box.     - Exchange 2003 migration problem - incoming email not routed correc We're attempting to complete a migration of our email system from Exchange 5.5 on NT4 SP6a to Exchange 2003 SP1 on Win2003 hotfixed via windows update. The mailboxes have been migrated to the new server using the Exchange Migration Wizard. We can connect to our new exchange server using Outlook and IMAP and view the contents of mailboxes. Mail can be sent via out using the SMTP server and from within Outlook. Our problem is that incoming emails from the internet are not being distributed into mailboxes and emails sent internally to internal users do not reach their destination. The incoming emails from the internet can be seen in Local Delivery Queue, with a state of 'Retry'. There is no sign of the internally sent emails. It may be that the Exchange 2003 server is receiving messages and attempting to route them through back to our old mail server. One possible course of action we are considering is to remove the old server from the organisation. Should this be attempted as a solution to this problem?     - email redirection 5.5 to 2003 Hi... Our current setup includes exchange 5.5 in our domain. We are planning to deploy a new win 2003 domain on new servers and will include exchange 2003. I was able to migrate users to the new 2003 AD. The issue I am facing is that I need to change some email IDs for some users in order to standarize our email IDs. For Example user jamseT@company.com on 5.5 becomes jthompson@company.com on exch 2003 Is there a way to let the exchange 2003 server forward the emails coming to jamseT@company.com to jthompson@company.com, although the exchange 5.5 will be down, but the same previous(on 5.5) public domain is used (form ISP).     - OWA Login issue I have a 2003 Exchange Enterprise server with OWA configured and working...Kind of. When I log into it I have to use the user@domainname.com to successfully log in. I would like to be able to log in using the alias or the user without the domain name. I have a feeling that I might need to add anothe SMTP address or something like that. I know this can be done as I have had a SBS that worked this way. But the SBS is automatically configured to do this with out too much intervention from the person doing the installation.     - Exch 5.5 to 2003 ADC question I have a mix of Windows 2003 and NT 4.0 domains each with Exchange 5.5 servers. When I run the ADC tools the log file shows all the mailboxes with NT 4.0 user acounts as "Cannot find match to 'cn=1204, etc." Does this need to be cleaned up before creating any Connection Agreements and if so, how do I clean them up? The BDC is only used for Domain replication. I also have 3 Windows 2000 servers that are not Domain Controllers but are a part of the NT Domain and are used for Applications and Terminal Services. I would like to upgrade the NT Domain to Windows 2000/2003 alongwith Exchange 5.5. The dilemma I face is that the Exchange is running on the PDC and I am confused about the installation of AD and the order of upgrade at this point. I would appreciate if someone could guide me through the sequential order in which I can accomplish this upgrade without causing serious repercussions. I appreciate your help in this matter.     - Continue - Cant recieve external mail If other people then Lanwench...read below. Well i asked my brother if i can have access to edit these records on my domain and i have the access. I made an A record called mail.janovich.net and pointed it to my public ip. It still didnt work. I was wondering if i need to keep the cname entry for mail.janovich.net. I tried taking that away and then i couldnt ping mail.janovich.net. So i am honestly not sure what i am missing or forgetting to do. So if there is something else that i may have missed and you can think of it please let me know. I have port 25 open on my our router also. It isn't something you do on your network or server unless you are hosting your own public DNS, which it appears you aren't, and you shouldn't be unless you understand all the requirements and ramifications. The new DC, per SBS requirements, will be the new email server. Has anybody tried this with the Exchange Migration Tool? Imail is not one of the products listed in the EMT description, but then it makes a reference to migrating IMAP4 and I'm wondering if that will work for a generic server using IMAP. I've searched, and tried looking through some books, but so far I am at a loss as to how I can setup my Exchange 2003 to provide mailbagging for my other Exchange (2000). These are in completely different networks using completely different ISPs in different towns. Can anybody offer some pointers to how to set this up?     - IMAP4 I have Exchange 2003 and am attempting to setup IMAP4 so that we can try using mobile devices to access email accounts. I have setup the IMAP4 virtual server and opened port 143 on our firewall. We seem to be able to connect but not authenticating.     - Virtual Server config ? I have two e2k3 servers in a single org, in same routing group responsible for the same mail domain. Each has the default SMTP virtual server with default settings. There is no connection to the internet they are on an isolated LAN. All messages from users with mailboxes on server1 (the first installed e2k3 server) are delivered fine regardless of the location of the recipients mailbox. All messages from a mailbox on server2 (the latest installed e2k3 server) get NDR with 5.3.5 there is a mail looping error when sent to users whose mailboxes reside on server1. How do I resolve this?     - Exchange 5.5 on Active Directory I have some questions about Exchange 5.5 running on Active Directory. We currently have Exchange 5.5 running with multiple sites, on W2K server, all servers on NT domains. The bulk of our users and servers have already migrated to our Active Directory domain. We have servers running Exchange 2003. What I want to do is migrate our Exchange 5.5 servers to AD, but we want 5.5 and Exchange 2003 to coexist. We need all our servers on the AD domain and off the NT domains, but we don't want to change our 5.5 enviroment or cripple it. We are not migrating the remaining users to Exchange 2003. The user accounts have already been migrated to AD using the Quest suite of migration tools, trusts exist between NT and AD domains. Can it be done? How?     - Exchange Client will not connect I have a Win 2000 AD LAN, and I am running Exchange 2000. The Ex 2k server appears to be working ok. The problem is that Outlook 2000 clients are only able to connect using the Internet e-mail connection. When I try to connect to the Exchange server, I receive a network error.     - how do i set up exchange to send emails Hi, How do I set exchange up to start sending and receiving emails from the server. At the moment the exchange domain is not an internet domain such as google.com but just 'ourbuisnessname.server'. So the mail boxes that have been set up with each user is 'name@ourbusinessname.server' and because of this no emails are set or received using Exchange. This is causing a few problems and also when I check the day to day running of the server the SMTP server has not started. So I am not getting the daily emails direct from SBS2003 regarding any problems. I thought I had set it up to send emails daily to my email address but I have never received any.     - Cannot start System Attendant with service account Hi there, I tried to configure my Exchange Server 2003 to use a service-account. It does have all the necessary rights (user account level & local security policy). When I try to start the service it immediately shuts down. I get the following stuff in the application log: 1. EventID 1000, Source MSExchangeSA, Microsoft Exchange System Attendant is starting. Microsoft Exchange Server System Attendant, service startup complete, version 6.5 (build 7226.0). 2. EventID 1005, Source MSExchangeSA, Unexpected error The logon attempt failed ID no: 8009030c Microsoft Exchange System Attendant occured. 3. EventID 1004, Source MSExchangeSA, Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to start. I even turned on the Diagnostics Logging on for MSExchangeDSAccess (maximum logging) to see more details, but that didn't reveal anything more. To make things worse, I configured another service to use my service account and this works like a charm! (yes, I gave the correct password ;-) Then I thought that it could have anything to do with the dependant services - configured them all to use the same account, started them separately etc. No effect.     - Mailbox Limit don't work on Outlook Express Hi, I was testing Exchange Mailbox limit and set the warning to be sent out at 45MB, and enable receive but disable send when reached to 50MB storage limit. It works fine when users login using Outlook and OWA, but I found out that if the users login using outlook express, then the limit won't affect the user even though their mailbox already over the 50MB limit. I think Exchange treats it as user relaying messages, so it won't block users who try to send email. Since users are able to send email using OE and receive thru pop3, then the mailbox store limit won't affect them at all, and they could have unlimited storage even there is a mailbox policy in effect. I know I can configure the mailbox management to run and clean the mailbox for me, but it may delete the emails that the users intend to keep.     - Removing the last (and only)5.5 server If this is the wrong group to post thin, please let me know. While following KB article 822450, I receive the following warning on the old 5.5 server when trying to remove my last and only 5.5 server through Exchange Administrator program: "There are 2 mailboxes and gateways on this server. All these gateways will be deleted. All mailboxes and their contents will also be deleted. Are you sure...without first moving the mailboxes." I have already moved all mailboxes, created a new IMS on the new EX2K3 server and removed the IMC from the old 5.5. The only mailbox left on the 5.5 server is the System Attendant mailbox - and that cannot be moved.     - Migration: OAB download for remote users We are doing exchange server consolidation by introducing exchange 2003. We currently have one exchange server at every branch office. there are altogether 9 exchange servers. All branch office are connected to an IT Hub via internet VPN with bandwidth ranging from 256kbs to 512kbps. we have about 30 - 40 users at most of the sites... the new exchange 2003 will be located at the hub and all other branch office users will remotely access the new server in future. for this migration, we require all users to enable Cached Mode.. with the settings all users will automatically download OAB when first starting up. and of course, it will give a big impact to our WAN link performance. Currently our OAB size is about 4-5 MB.. Is there a way to mitigate this big OAB download?     - delayed messages or unable to send? Hi, I am having a few problems with sending emails. I have set up SBS2003 with Exchange and users. These users are only using exchange at the moment to share calendars. All emails are (or should be) sent and received via pop3 accounts (me2uweb, who host the site) using outlook 2003. For some reason though the users get the odd message back from the server. Sometimes it is saying that the email couldn't be delivered and othertimes it is saying that the email has been delayed. Why is this because the emails shouldn't be going via the server (Exchange) at all. Also when I set the server up the domain was the office name. This isn't a 'real' internet name so nothing gets sent out via the server. How can I set Exhange to use a POP 3 account to send and receive emails or even better how do I set Exchange up to accept and send emails automatically? Any thoughts would be greatly received.     - Incoming mail during Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration Hello - We're about to migrate from NT4 / Exchange 5.5 win Win 2003/Exchange 2003. We'll create a new Exchange 2003 organisation, using ADMT and ADC to handle the account and mailbox moves. Given that the Exchange migration will span several days, both old and new servers will host active mailboxes along the way. In that case, what's the best way to maintain incoming email to users on both servers? Presumably, the 5.5 servers will continue to accept incoming mail , because that setup remains intact during migration. Does the ADC know about mailboxes that have been migrated and send the mail across (I didn't have that impression)? I ask so because if we configure the gateway to send incoming mail to both servers, surely the 2003 servers will generate NDRs for mailboxes they don't yet host? This begs the question of address ownership - my understanding is that Exchange 2003 doesn't have a user's SMTP addresses until they've been migrated - is that right? Does the ADC does not maintain mailflow between the servers? Also, is it the case that, as far as Exchange 2003 is concerned, it does not impose SMTP addresses on mailboxes that correspond to the domain name of the AD - which will be different from the email domain name? I am trying to setup RPC over HTTP for my mobile users, but haven't been able to accomplish this. While looking through server properties I came across the RPC-HTTP tab. We have proceeded to deploy Exchange 2003 Enterprise on W2K but setup completes but SRS is NOT installed and the config_CA is not created. (Migration was tested and successful in test environment). We get errors saying that the Exchange 2003 cannot connect to Exchange 5.5, due to there being no config_CA between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 5.5 when we try to connect to Exchange 5.5 from the 2003 Exchange System Manager. We are also unable to move any mailboxes to the new Exchange 2003 Server due to this error. Here is an error log from the Exchange 2003 Setup log file stating that SRS is not going to be installed... Questions 1: Would it be be safe to be able to delete these disabled users/Distribution List's from AD without effecting the Distribution Lists on Exchange? Question 2: We are trying to determine if deleting the existing old ADC config_CA on the Exchange 5.5 server will effect any sort of "AD to Exchange 5.5" replication. The config_CA that is in place right now is Scheduled to replicate "NEVER" and is pointing back to itself for AD/Exchange replication. So essentially, the config_CA isn't in use at all, is it? Question 3: We are also looking at options to install a NEW Exchange 2003 Server in a Different Site, and manually using Exmerge.exe to import the mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 into Exchange 2003. We would then uninstall the first Exchange 2003 server and decomission it. We are having a tough time finding resources on Installing Exchange 2003 in a Different Site.     - two connections to our ISP I am planning a new 2k3 organisation as follows: 2 servers in two separate locations with a 2 meg link in between. There will be mailboxes on both servers I want to be able to send email out to the internet from both of these servers for fault tolerance; so that, if either a)the link goes down, or b)the server at one office goes down, the mail will flow out through the other connector.     - Public folder replication issue: 5.5 to 2003 I'm working on migrating from 5.5 to 2003. Everything went fine during setup, nothing special. I added the 2003 server as a replica for the public folders from the two Exchange 5.5 servers. The public folders on the 5.5 servers are around 1 gig total size. Since added this server as a replica, the new 2003 servers Private Information store(which has no mailboxes yet) has grown to 12 gig, and the Public store is also 12 gig. The server generated right around 25 gig worth of log files in around 12 hours, which filled my log partition before my backup. I have two other sites, their servers are fine, and I've done this several times before. Has anyone seen this behavior?
