Is it possible to install Exchange when IIS6 does not have a web site with
an identifier of "1"? I'm trying to install Exchange on a server that has
had a fair amount of IIS cusomization, including an SPS2003 installation, so
W3SVC/1 does not exist. I created a new web site, and edited MetaBase.xml
changing the identifier on this new site to "1", but then internet services
manager wasn't properly connected to it, so I figure that's not an option.
Maybe some other workaround to get Exchange to install with a web site that
does not have an identifier of "1"? Thanks much!

thx for the clue John....i too was getting the same error and after looking
at an existing exch server implementation found that indeed the site
identifier in IIS was 1. Instead of using the MetaEdit tool i think u used, I
installed the IIS6 resource kit and used Metabase Explorer. Under
servername>LM>W3SVC i renamed the site i wanted the exch folders to install
under to 1 and then changed the approot data to /LM/W3SVC/1/Root. this seems
to have solved my issue. Once again thanks for the heads up.
