    - Site Failover Suggestions?? Here is my scenario: I have a client that has 2 physical locations, each with a DSL connection to the internet. The way the 2 locations are connected together is via a site to site VPN with a Cisco 1711 router. My problem is that they need redundancy for email, so I wanted to put a mail server at each of the 2 locations. Here is my problem: How do I get my Exchagne mail system, in the event that the main site goes down, to recieve the emails for the users that are at the mail site? if the DSL connection goes down, there is no connection then between the main site and remote site. Since the 15 of 20 users mailboxes will reside at the main sites Exchange server, the remote site will not have access to those mailboxes in the event that the DSL goes down, so what do I do? How do I have the remote site accept the email and get it to the main site at the point that the DSL connection comes back up? I ask becaue the remote site will not have mailboxes for these users on the remote site Exchange server.     - Cannot receive outside mail Yesterday I added an Exch 2003 server to an existing 5.5 org. Late last night I was unable to send Internet mail, but I was able to receive it. I worked on the outgoing problem, but now it appears I cannot receive Internet mail. I have tried sending messages to my account on my domain (greatharvest.com) from Hotmail and Yahoo, but they are not getting to me, nor have I received NDR's for the messages.     - Exchange 2003 in Child domains Hi There, I setup exchange 2003 on 3 machines now, 1 being forest master, the other 2 joined to the forest as trees. All 3 are running exchange 2003, however I now want to add a 4th machine to it and I keep getting the weirdest errors. The main error that keeps coming back during the install is that it can't contact a GC server. However if I run the exdeploy tools it works just fine, also telnetting to the GC on the port works as well.. in DNS the GC is also specified.. Basically all settings look fine. also ran domainprep in all domains (again), even on the forest master and I still have the same issue. I hope someone can help me out, as I need to have this up and running this monday, as you can imagine it's a pretty urgent call otherwise I wouldn't be working on saturday ;-) Cheers, Nils.     - CA agreement practices I'm looking for a best practice of someone that has migrated 5.5 to 200x with respect to how CA's were used. My environment has all 5.5 servers running on 2000 servers already part of a native mode AD. There are 16 sites and 13 child domains. We are also go to 2003 DC's as we roll. The migration will take a couple of months. In testing, I noticed the CA wizard wants to create CA's from the first 2003 server to all sites. What I'm not clear on is whether it would be better to build the CA's site by site-domain by domain as I migrate. Another conflict is the first connect set as a primary seems to be random.     - Smtp relay authenication problem I have been hacked by the guest account being enabled.I have disabled the relay to allow all computers to relay. I still see the ques filling up after I clear them. Does anyone have any step by step instructions to stop all the smtp relay that I am getting. I have disabled the guest account and the bad mail folder is still filling up and the Exchange ques are still filled up. I have exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 server. I have no viruses on the Exchange box. Mydoom did go in the Quarntine section of the Norton Corporate Edition. We have done scans and no viruses have been found. Any help would be great.     - SRS & ADC I am at the next to last step in the "Exchange Server Deployment Tools" guide. I have done the "Coexistance with Exchange 5.5" . At Phase #3 Step #4 it says: "After setup, change your connection agreement to connect to the new server running Exchange 2003. The new server runs Site Replication Service (SRS); connecting to this server prevents problems with directory replication and Global Address List viewing". I clicked on the link where it told me how to do it and to use port 379 and all that. I verified that the SRS service is running and there are no errors in Event Viewer. When I do follow the steps I get an error message that says "Unable to contact the Exchange server, please ensure that your connections are configured correctly" ID no: c103aa1d What could be the problem? All the exchange services are running. My test lab is 2 Windows 2000 server (One with Exchange 5.5). I added a Windows 2003 server and did dcpromo so we are in Mixed mode.     - Recipient Policies I am having trouble with recipient policies. Basically, we have the default policy that uses smtp default of @corp.com. I've created 3 new policies for 3 separate email addresses we host on our domain - for example, 1 is for a remote site that uses smtp @company1.com, there is a 2nd recipient policy for another remote site that uses smtp @company2.com, then finally, I have a 3rd policy for all corporate users that the smtp is set to @corp.com. When setting up these policies, I added a condition that said if "ou=corp", or "ou=company1", or "ou=company2". However, everyone that falls into the company1 or company2 OU is getting an smtp stamp of @corp.com as their primary smtp. Why are the other policies being overriden by either the default policy or the corporate policy (which is only pointing to the corporate OU)? How do I fix?     - Single Site E2K to E2K3 Migration across servers We are running E2k and had a hardware crash recently that forced us to bring exchange up on an alternate box and it's running fine. Now that the original HW problem is resolved we're ready to move exchange back and figured this would be a good time to install E2k3. Here's the way I see this happening: 1. I install the E2K3 server as an additional exchange server in the existing site. 2. replicate all the public folders over to the new server 3. Use the MoveMailbox Wizard to move mailboxes from my E2k to my E2k3 box 4. Follow the steps in MSKB article 307917 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;307917) to move remaining components and bring my E2k server offline. I've seen a number of MS whitepapers and tech articles on migrating from E5.5 to E2K3 but nothing that addresses a migration from E2K > E2K3 (everything seems to assume that I would want to do an in place upgrade) Does anyone see any issues with the plan I have laid out here? When I connect to the server's event log It has the event 9157 which says that the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant does not have sufficient rights to read Exchange configuration objects in Active Directory. When I look at the service it is set to log on as Local System Account. So I change it to the Domain Admin account and the computer starts up but Exchange System Attendant Starts and then stops. I went over Article - 297295 and everything was in order. The Server is having no problem logging onto the Domain. Can anyone give me some ideas.     - Removing Exchange Server that doesn't exist Hello Single site / 2 DC's (win2k SP4) I installed Exchange 2K on a Windows 2K server (first exchange server) and ran a few tests. I was then told it might be better going for Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 server. So I removed the server from active directory and installed Windows 2003 from scratch and then tried to install exchange 2003. I get a warning appearing stating "A server object for this server ("SERVERNAME") already exists in the Administrative Group "First Administrative Group" etc When I tried to remove the old server from system manager I get "Could not remove ("SERVERNAME") because one or more users use a mailbox on this server.     - installation problem with Exchange 2003 In order to save typing, I'm going to make a long, painful, aggravating story short. I have a former front end server that was demoted to a member server in order to perform an email migration/upgrade to Exchange 2003 onto another server. I am now trying to bring it back up as a front end server with Exchange 2003. However, after running all the steps, I get a 0xc007003a error saying "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation." and a termination of the install process. I have scoured the web looking for SOMETHING that could be causing this, as event viewer essentially shrugs it's shoulders and says "Got me." I have uninstalled Exchange 2000 (it was a wonky install anyway) and tried a straight install to 2k3, same error or "unspecified error." I ask because will be connecting an Exchange 2003 server to an Exchange 5.5 server with an X.400 connector. One of the issues is easy synchronization between address books of the 2 sites.     - Best Configuration of SBS 2000 Email I have this situation: A client with a SBS 2000 network. Clients, of course, are automatically setup with a Microsoft Exchange entry in their Microsoft Outlook on their PCs. This only works locally, of course. They also have e-mail accounts setup through their ISP. I have them accounts setup in Outlook as well. So, we have 2 accounts in Outlook - exchange and the external POP3. I have the POP3 setup as the default. Here is what I want: I want mail addresses to each other in the organization/domain to travel through the Exchange server, and I want external mail to travel out to the Internet.     - IMAP migration wizard error 14001 The migration utility stop functioning midway when trying to do a migration from an IMAP server. Error is 14001. I let it sit like that for about a month. Well now I finally turned of the 5.5 server and my public folders are no longer accessable.     - Remove 1st Server in Group I installed a E2K3 server into my Exchange 5.5 environment. I moved the mailboxes to my new E2K3 server without any problems and all is well. However, I wanted to remove the original E5.5 server from the Org, but before I could do this, my E5.5 server crashed and is unrecoverable. Now, the E5.5 server is dimmed-out in my servers container along with the SRS connector. I can't delete my original E5.5 server. Can anybody tell me how to remove it?     - Exchange 2000 -> 2003 I am running exchange 2000 on 2000 server in native mode. I want to upgrade to 2003 server and exchange 2003 but install on new hardware. The trick is keeping the exising machine name. If I save the databases on 2000 then shut down the old machine will 2003 Restore (remount) the 2000 database? I'm running Exchange 2003 on W2K3 server and am trying to
run OWA over SSL. I set up OWA over regular http and it
works fine. I followed the instructions on obtaining a
certificate (I am just using one I made using Certificate
Wizard) but using the wizard to install the certificate
then checking the box to require SSL. When I type the site
name using http://url/exchange it gives me the error
saying SSL required to view this site, which is fine.
However, when I type https://url/exchange I get a Page not
found error. I really need to use SSL to meet my companies
security requirement, otherwise I can't use OWA. Can
someone tell me why this happens and how can I fix this?
