    - OWA - URL Hello to all ... let me explain my environment first: Front End OWA server (Servername: OWA01) - Windows 2003/Exchange 2003 Back End Mailbox Server (Servername: MBX01) - Windows 2003/Exchange 2003 Ok here's my question ... I would like individuals who are internal to be able to open up IE and type only "http://exchange" to access their mailbox through OWA. Within DNS I already created a "CName" which points "exchange" to the "MBX01" mailbox. So now individuals that type "http://exchange/exchange" can access their mailbox, but I would like to remove the 2nd /exchange. Within IIS on the OWA01 box within the Default Website/Home Directory I changed the option to: "a redirection to a URL" typed in "/exchange" (without the quotes) and clicked on the "a directory below URL entered" with no luck.     - Exchange 2007 + Win2008 DC Hi Is it OK for a small firm about 60 users (1GB mailbox per user) to install Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2008 domain controller? Or are there any problems that should I be aware of it? We don't want to wait for a SBS 2008 that will come in November, so my boss decided to buy full products Win2008 Std + Exchange 2007. As I have said we're small firm and have a limited budget, so my plan is the following: - buy a new server to run Windows 2008 domain environment + Exchange 2007 * **I'm thinking of a HP DL360 1xQuadCore 8GB RAM 2x146GB SAS in RAID1 - buy a new server to use it for File + APP server * **I'm thinkig of a HP DL380 1xQuadCore 4GB RAM 4x146GB SAS in RAID5 or maybe 2x72GB RAID1 + 3x146GB RAID 5 - use an existing server for a second Windows 2008 domain controller, just buy a Win2008 Std licence What do you suggest, is this hardware OK, or can it be improved. All users are using Outlook 2003 or 2007 as their mail client (mix of POP3 and IMAP4 access). Does anyone have any tips/links or general advice on producing a migration plan for this situation? The external recipients are selected either from the GAL or address entered directly.     - setting up connecters in exchange 2007? Now I have been running exchange 2003 for a number of years now and the company decided to go to exchange 2007. It was a clean install. Now I cannot seem to be able to configure my connectors. my exchange server IP is 10.240.116.1 In 2003 I configured my default smtp connector to relay through smart host [142.46.226.22] using TLS I then entered my username and password. Our MX record is pointing to a partners mail server. All external mail is then relayed to us as well as their internal mail. We intern relay our mail out their smtp server. The company also had us install a ssl cert through mmc certificates. I just can't figure out how to configure this same thing in 2007.     - Outlook anywhere - validate user error OWA via https is ok then i try to set up outlook 2007 anywhere profile after setting https connection, outlook cannot validate the user the notebook is then tried in "internal LAN" by running outlook /rpcdiag, i find it try to connect to the domain controller server for directory, but the server is not accessible in "internet" is it the problem of validating user?     - Interesting BUG ? With Exchange 2007 SP1 / Outlook 2003 remote clients Came across this today so I thought I would put it out there to see if anyone knows why this is happening. Setup: Exchange 2007 / SP1 Created a user using the EMC and then checked hide user from the exchange address list as I did not want this generic account to show up in the GAL. Created a new Outlook profile to connect to the exchange server using cached exchange mode for that user per the norm / Outlook 2003 Tried to connect to exchange with Outlook 2003 . A dialog box popped up telling me the user was not in the address list. Outlook was unable to configure the Account. I Unchecked the "Hide from exchange address list option" in the Exchange EMC for the user account and outlook 2003 was able to connect fine. Went back to the exchange EMC and Un checked "hide from exchange address list" Outlook client could still connect fine. It appears that the first time Outlook 2003 connects it needs to see the user account in the Exchange address list and its unable to configure it the "Hide from exchange address list option" is checked.     - ActiveSync/IIS virtual directory "Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" Exchange Server 2003/SP2 Windows Server 2003/SP2 I recently read the articles regarding rebuilding the "Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" virtual directory and completed the recreation of the six directories "Public, Exchange, MSA, Exadmin, OMA and ExchWeb", restarted IIS Admin, and have no errors in my application logs. In fact, ActiveSync appears to be happy. "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync has been loaded: Process ID: [6628]." Now if I go to https://mywebsite.com/Exchange/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync I get the page (Forms enabled) and can log into the server. But this is from a browser on a PC not a mobile device. So one of my most baffling questions is, "What files are supposed to be in C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\OMA\Sync"? There are none. My second question is, "How can turn on more debugging to see how my mobile client is hitting the server? Before I rebuilt the virtual directories, I was at least getting an error. Here's an example.     - New Ex 03 mailbox server not sending outgoing SMTP mail. We have an Exchange 2003 organization that had two "backend" mailbox servers and a front end/OWA server that also functions as our bridgehead for internet mail. The servers are running in native mode on a Windows 2003 native mode A/D network. The servers are in a single domain/single site. We have an SMTP connector set up for outgoing email with the bridgehead being the same as the front end server. This arrangement has been working for for years. Recently we added a 3rd mailbox server and moved some mailboxes to it. Users were able to access the mailboxes using Outlook, and were receiving email both from inside and outside addresses. The problem was that all outgoing SMTP mail from users on this mailbox was queuing up on the server. The status on the queue's showed "remote server did not respond to a connection attempt". When we tried to force a connection, it would go active for a few seconds then list as "retry", but nothing went out of the queue. I was able to telnet on port 25 and initiate an SMTP connection from that server from the command line, and incoming SMTP email comes in OK. It's just that this server can not initiate an outgoing SMTP connection, even to the other servers in the routing group. The only difference I found in the configuration is that I had forgot to add "ASP.NET" from the add/remove programs (shouldn't the Exchange setup have caught that?). Other than that, the mailbox server was set up the same as the other ones. I installed the ASP.NET and I tried restarting services, and even rebooting the servers, but nothing worked.. What finally worked was to set a "smart host" on the SMTP virtual server on the new server to point to the bridgehead server. I realize this is sending all email, even that pointed to the other internal servers, through the single server, so I don't want to leave it this way.     - OWA / Outlook Anywhere on Ex2k7 Is there a supported way to install Exchange 2007 (single server), into a Exchange 2003 environment (single server) and have them coexist together, also with both OWA/Outlook Anywhere and OWA/RPC over HTTP work while the migration takes place? Since I only have 1 server of each, I would like to slowly migrate users over instead of everyone at once.     - Mail Flow Troubleshooting Hi, I tried running this mail flow troubleshooter to find out more of an undeliverable received by a user 550 5.7.1. I run the wizard and went through the motion of scanning the message tracking logs on the exchange server. However, i get this warning message "unable to find message tracking event since date and time on server. make sure that message tracking is enabled." I checked from the cmdlet get-transportserver nad returned that messagetrackinglogenabled to be true. Is there anything else that needs to be done be able to view message tracking logs?     - New Server; most effective partition setup Hi all, I have a new HP ML350 G5 server with 2x250GB drives and 2x500GB drives. The server will be running Server 2003 R2 Std. Ed. with Exchange 2007. I have setup each pair of drives in the mirror-array (RAID 1+0). There will be about 40-50 mailboxes on the server. Now my question is how should I partition the drives for the OS, databases, logs, etc.? We are going to be using Unitrends' backup systems for backup and recovery. They like to have smaller "C:" drives to make their BareMetal backups and restores quicker and more efficient. Therefore I'm not sure if I want to just make a giant 250GB C: drive - although I could. So please give me some advice on this as best practice. I'm looking for something like, "Setup your drives like this and put XX on this partition, the move YY to that partition" and so on. If a user is a member of a domain and they also have an exchange mailbox in that domain, is it possible to provide that user with a seperate login password for their domain pc login and their exchange mailbox account. I have one user that is paranoid that their pc login uses the same password as their exchange mailbox and is requesting a seperate unique password for their exchange mailbox.     - Exchange 2003 build ok I have an IBM server with direct attached storage. There are 12 drives in the das each for 260 gigs 2 in the system for OS We have 500 users, no mailbox limits Use outlook 2003, rpc over http I have tried building out the server as such d: database 800gb e: database2 500gb are on raid 10 total of 6 drives f: logs 260bg are on raid 1 with 2 drives g: pagefile 260gb are on raid 1 with 2 drives h: stmp mta 260gb are on raid 1 with 1 drives 1 spare global I have 8 databases 4 on each database drive. I have users split into different storage group\databases to try and keep backups faster\databases smaller I randomly get a few messages of high physical disk usage on the e: drive. Maybe 3 or 4 a day, the check I'm using is PhysicalDisk,% Disk Time,0 D: > 55 (Perfmon (PhysicalDisk,% Disk Time,0 D:)) I've run exchange troubleshooting tool and it never finds any issues with the server or performance.     - Exchange server 2003 migration to a new organization in a new fore Hi Our company has recently merged with another and I need to migrate all our users from our current Exchange 2003 SP2 server to a new Exchange 2003 SP2 server in the Exchange organization of our parent company. All the user accounts in our current domain are to be migrated to a new child domain in the Parent company domain and the new exchange server is in this child domain. We have created a 2 way trust between our Forest and the parent Company Forest and I can move user accounts using the Active Directory Migration Tool. My question is what is the best way to move the user mailboxes and Public Folders?. This migration will probably be done over a number of days so how can I ensure that migrated users can still connect to OWA and use http over RCP. At present the parent company exchange Organiozation does not use http over RCP. Will I be able to let the users on my new exchange server which is in the parent organization use HTTP over RCP still? The parent company does use OWA and has a front end Exchange Server for this purpose. If I give my migrated users the url for this OWA server will they be able to connect to there mailbox on the new server? It is envisaged that external email will still come in and out of our exchange server directly over our Internet connection and not be routed in via the parent company exchange server. We are connected to the parent company which is in the US via a MPLS connection. Is there anything in particular that I should look out for that may catch me out.     - Email signing and encryption I have working S/MIME on each client to allow users to sign and encrypt emails. Does Exchange handle this automatically? Ideally I'd like for either the Exchange server hold and perform all the signing and encryption, or at least manage all the certificates which would be accessible by the users. Does it do it? Anyone have it working? Does each user need a commercial certificate or can Exchange be its own CA?     - Contacts in Exchange 2003 - where to store them for global access? Hi, We are currently moving our company from Goldmine to a mixture of Dynamics CRM (for the sales orientated people),plain Outlook 2007 (for power email users) and OWA (everyone else). As a result we have migrated a good bunch of contacts into Dynamics CRM, but the problem remains that the power users, and sometimes OWA users, need to maintain contacts for general usage - contacts that really have no point in being in CRM. I have done some investigation into the best way to centrally store contacts that are going to be needed globally, but not put into CRM, and have come up with several - GAL, AD contact, Public Folder, Sharepoint List. However, there seems to be no real consensus on what the best approach is - does anyone here have an opinion? We are looking at around 4,000 - 6,000 contacts.     - Exchange 2007 CCR on Windows 2008 x64 RTM I am trying to set up an Exchange 2007 SP1 CCR Cluster on Windows Server 2008 x64 RTM. I have been following the instructions on (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676458(EXCHG.80).aspx), and I am certain that I have all of the prerequisite roles/features installed. However, whenever I attempt to install the Active Clustered Mailbox Role, it errors out towards the end of the setup when trying to configure the cluster. I am using the Exchange 2007 SP1 installation media on an RTM version of Windows Server 2008 x64 Enterprise Edition. I have tried to create the Cluster Group (or Services & Applications) with the IP & Network Name resources online manually, and I have also attempted without creating the group first. If I watch during the install in Failover Cluster Management, I can see that Exchange 2007 Setup deletes this group and then recreates it if I had it created already, and shortly after setup errors out. I only see the Network Name & IP resources get created. I have the Quorum Model set to Node & File Share Majority, and all of my Cluster Core Resources are Online. I also made sure that my Current Host Server is set to the node that I am attempting to install the Active CCR Node to. Here is the error that I get at the end of the installation: "Error The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion occured while performing exsetdata operation; the original error code was 0xc007041d." I can see this in the Exchange Setup Log files, but I cannot determine what service it is attempting to start, and I do not see any Services installed into the Cluster Group that is created, which is what I am guessing it is trying to start. My standalone Mailbox/Hub/CAS Server is accessible, and run fine, and I don't see any issues with AD. I suspect that something is happening when trying to create the cluster resources, but I can't see any error to troubleshoot. I also looked into the Windows Failover Clustering Application & Service Logs from Event Viewer, and I don't see any errors starting services.     - Distribution list and Recipient update Hi, Currently, I have Ex2007 MB server and Ex2007 CAS server. We are still moving mailboxes over from our ex2000 server. Everything else seems running well on servers, except- 1. Do I need to "move" distribution groups and Contacts to ex2007 server or any steps need to be taken? or they are like security group, not need to be moved - before retire ex2000? 2. I discover new address created showing up late on client's outlook (a day late). Do I need to do any update on recipient update policy? I have default policy. or do some kind of setting changes? It was not like that before having ex2007 3. If I try to edit the address default policy from ex2007 console, it says" unabled to edit the specified e-mail address policy. E-mail address policies created with legacy version of Exchnage must be upgraded using the set-EmailAdressPolicy" task, with exchange 2007 recipient filter specified" .     - New Exchange server error I am trying to move a single computer domain controller from one piece of hardware to another and having a problem installing Exchange correctly. Scenario: original DC is Server 2003 Standard, all SP installed, Exchange 2003 Standard SP2. new DC is Server 2003 R2 Standard, same Exchange. I ran domain prep on the existing domain with the R2 disk to update the schema and installed 2003 on the new machine. Then I installed Exchange on the new machine, but i got a couple of failures during install of memory write errors, but it continued and seemed to be fine overall. I started transferring global catalog, operations masters, etc in order to remove Exchange on the old machine, dcpromo down that DC, and be on the new machine. However, when I tried to replicate public folders, i got an error 0xC1030af7. I am also getting occasional 1054 errors in the application log that the domain controller name can't be found. DNS seems to be doing just fine, thanks, and no other errors are showing up. Oh, and from System Manager on the original machine, everything works great. I tried deleting and recreating the virtual directory folders for Exchange as per KB articles, but that didn't change the behavior. I even uninstalled Exchange from the new server and tried re-installing; same thing, leading me to think it is a problem in the install of the server itself.     - New Domain, Old Mailboxes I would like to re-create a domain, and the only thing I really want to retain from the existing domain is the user mailboxes in Exchange 2003. It would be nice to be able to keep the user id information, but if that has to be recreated, it is not a huge problem. Other than using Outlook to create .pst files, is there a way to move mailboxes from Exchange 2003 in one domain to Exchange 2003 in another domain, and of course different forests? I guess a wrinkle would be that the "old domain" - the existing one - would have the same name as the "new domain" - the start from scratch recreate. I know there is a rather involved procedure to change domain names, but I would follow that path only as long as there is a great way to move users from one domain to another in different forests. In CAS/HUB Exchange Server, if i enable Windows Firewall, emails not send and goes to Drafts Folder without any error. If Windows Firewall is disabled, all is ok. Other problem, my previous installation work perfectly on Windows 2003 64 Bit, but with this new installation, on outlook clients, we don't have any OAB. it does'nt download without any errors.     - Sub Domain works, Primary does not Looking for some help, pretty green when it comes to MS Exchange. We have sbs2003 with smtp Exchange Server 03 in house, on a static ip - no pop. I am having problems with sending and receiving emails when using our business domain for example BOB@abcgroup.com, however when I send from an external account to our internal sub account BOB@123group.com the mail is being delivered to our server. Please understand these are not distinct domains in Small Business Server but simply two registered domains with the same MX record. I have checked the email tracking tool in exchange manager and the emails sent from outside to BOB@abcgroup.com are not even showing up. Usually if IMF blocks them they still show up in the tracking tool. These appear to never even get to our server. When I send from the exchange server to a gmail account using the abcgroup.com and check the exchange tracking tool it says email has been routed and qued for remote delivery but never arrives in the gmail account. Any thoughts on why one domain would work and not the other when they are pointing to the same exchange server?     - Exchange Server 2007 SP1 upgrade error - Immediate failure "roles" Stats: Single domain, AD1-W2k3/64bit, AD2-W2k3/64bit/Exchange 2k7 I just found out that to set permissions on public folders with a GUI we need to install/upgrade to Exchange Server 2007 SP1(64bit). So I downloaded the 860Mb file, and went directly to install it. The main setup menu showed that the roles were pre-selected (grey'd out) with only one check box available for Unified messaging. If I just try to hit next to begin the installation I get the error, "Please select one or more server roles before continuing". Now if I select the Unified messaging it progresses, but then fails as we not using that feature. I have a few questions: 1. Where's Bill and where can I find a few pies? 2. Is there information (step by step) for a successful SP1 upgrade? 3. I found very little regarding that last error. Is this better resolved by a pay-per-support incident? Honestly, between both the Vista roll-out and now Exchange 2007, Microsoft has really taken a step backwards. I used to be very comfortable installing any patches or upgrades but now I'm really starting to reconsider Microsoft's credibility.     - Sender ID Filter issue related to Exchange SMTP connection Our incoming e-mails are handles by Mailmarshal, scanned and filtered and transfered to our exchange 2003 server Exchange server has Sender ID filter enabled since 2006. Occasionally, in mailmarshal SMTP, I see some e-mails (for a particular user) waiting to be delivered to exchange. Exchange keep telling mailmarshal "...timeout waiting data..", but strange enough, exchange never drop these connections and keeps increasing connections untill connection limit is reached, and then Exchange SMTP will completely ignore any connection. (Untill I reset IIS) I disabled "sender id filter" in exchange SMTP, reset IIS, immediately those particular messages waiting to be delivered, gone thru, and exchange no longer kept these connections. Since all incoming messages handled by mailmarshall, is there a reason why I should keep sender ID filter enabled? I do not prefer to disabled it though, would this hot fix in this article http://support.microsoft.com/KB/910272/EN-US related? Symptoms on that article is not exactly what I have.     - Disable clientside Oof rules / EWS Hello! I have an exchange 2007 server with outlook 2007 clients. My problem is now, that I want to implement, that, if an employee is ill, another employee could set the oof message for him. This was done with an hand-written VB app. I want to do that with an application written in c# with EWS. To set the oof setting is no problem. But if the employee has set Oof-rules in Outlook, then the server-side rule and the outlook-rule will be done. So maybe two other employees get the same message. Therefor I am trying to disable/delete the client rule. Unfortunately, this couldn't be done with EWS. I could do this with MAPI or CDO, but that is no fine solution. So, is there a possibility to disable the execution of the oof-rule set in outlook with eg ActiveDirectory or an Exchange Setting? Or is there another solution possible? Thanks in advance! Our organization is a simple single-forest, single-domain network environment. We currently have one Windows 2000 Server and two Windows Server 2003 Sp2 Std Edition machines. We have just built a new server with Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 edition, and we plan to migrate Exchange to this machine. All four of these machines are domain controllers. I thought I understood Windows domain and forest functional levels, but now I am finding myself confused. The book I=92m using to help with the Exchange upgrade (Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unleashed) has said in different places that: Exchange 2007 requires a domain functional level of at least Windows 2000 native. Exchange 2007 requires a forest functional level of at least Windows 2003. Specifically, it says: =93To install Exchange Server 2007, the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain functional level must be Windows 2000 Server Native or higher for all domains in the Active Directory forest where Exchange will exist.=94 (p. 182) Then, later, it says, "At a minimum, in planning a migration to Exchange 2007, the organization needs to ensure that the server running Exchange 2007 is running an x64-bit version of Windows 2003 SP1 or higher, and that the forest functional level is set to Windows 2003."
