    - Exchange 2003 SP1 error I just recently installed an MS 2003 Server and MS Exchange server 2003. I successfully migrated from Exchange 5.5 to the new Exchange 2003 server. I just tried to run the Exchange 2003 SP1 update and received the following error. Let me set this up first. I double-click on the Update.Exe file located in the SP1 i386 folder and I get to choose what components to update. During the install process and specifically during the "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" part it stops on the Beginning Update of SMTP Service sub-component. It then displays the following message: "Setup failed while installing sub-component SMTP service with error 0xC103798A (Please consult the installation logs for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or retry the failed step again." [Retry] [Cancel] The update then continues to the next step in the update when I click the [Cancel] button. This is what I get in my installation log .     - M drive plus Hello, We are starting to plan our move to Exchange 2003 and do not expect any issues since we are upgrading all equipment. The one question is we have had issues with our Ex2k box in that when it was built the 'domain' under the M drive was 'company.com' yet our domain is companydom.com. This has caused quite a few problems with some 3rd party apps and trying to avoid in the move to Ex2k3. What was done wrong and how can I/we avoid this.     - Removing Exchange 5.5 server I have installed exchange 2003 and moved mailboxes and things are working fine. I have 3 mailboxes that will not move. these mailboxes don't matter since they are not used I have read KB822450. My question is will it create problems to just delete these mailboxes when deleteing the ex5.5 computer.     - Added 2nd server to Site, some smtp problems. Ok i installed a second Exchange 2003 SP1 server. The install went without a hitch. I then moved my mailbox from the old server to the new, again no problems. Logged into my mailbox no problem and verified it was reading it on the new server. Now problems -- I can send internal and external email just fine. I can not receive mail at all, no rejection notices seem to be sent to the senders either ? I.e. if i have my coworker send me an email it sends with no rejection but i never get it, if i send mail in externally i never get it and again no rejection email. Why is the old server (lets call it exch1) not delivering my mail to (exch2) it obviously knows where I am ? Second problem is public folders, i went into public folders and added exch2 as a replica of every folder. Even after an hour however in my outlook i do not see any public folders ? Suggestions ?     - Optimizing Memory Usage in Exchange Server 2003 Please can someone advise me what to do in the following situation: I recently upraded my Exchange 2003 server to 4GB RAM and saw the event 9665 in the event viewer. It refers to KB815372 which details how to optimize memory usage in Exchange. After reading the article; I am considering putting the /3GB switch in the boot.ini; however there are some mitigating factors in my environment. My Exchange server is actually the DC and it has SQL2000 installed on it. (I know, I know - terrible. Budget constraints).     - What is 'free/busy'? What is public free/busy data? How can I create it? or locate it? Recently I transferred Exchange 2000 on a Win 2000 Server to Exchange 2003 on a new 2003 Server. When all was OK, I switched off the server, worked well then removed it following instruction found in MS site. After a week, Outlook 2000 is often giving on some PCs: "Unable to update public free/busy data. The contents of this public folder are currently unavailable. Either the Microsoft Exchange Server computer servicing this public folder is down or the public folder has not been replicated to this site." I check MS Q284200 but settings are as expected. I ran Outlook 2000 with: /cleanfreebusy and got this message "unable to clean your free/busy information on the server" All looks quite well. Any solution?     - Exchange 2000 Migration question.Trying to add a new 2k server to Exchange 2000 Migration question. Trying to add a new 2k server to Site 2 after turning off 5.5 server My original 5.5 Config was 1 x 5.5 Org (O1) with 2 Sites (S1) and (S2) both with Exchange 5.5 servers. I added Exchange 2K servers to each site and Migrated the users/Public folders fine. In Site 2 I followed the instructions to remove a 5.5 server moving Roles etc. I have turned the server off for a few weeks all works fine. The two steps I have not done is to delete the server Object from site 2, and remove the SRS from the Exchange 2K in S2, which I think I am not meant to do until I remove all 5.5 server from the Org and want to got native. When I try to add another 2K server to Site 2 it asks for a 5.5 server to get information about joining the Site (which I have turned off). If I delete the object will that solve the issue? The reason I have not delete the old 5.5 object was I wanted to make sure I had covered everything before I do this. I have left the ADC running in Site2 maybe i need to stop it ? Our domain is hosted on a remote server with 10 POP E-mail id's defined as follows: jtalpade, tshaikh, pshanbhag, mshriyan, mmanjrekar, rumap, adivate, rtalpade, schourasia and rramesh On my exchange server, i have defined the following users: tshaikh, mshriyan, mmanjrekar, rumap, adivate, rtalpade, schourasia and rramesh I have kept "jtalpade" & "pshanbhag" out of the exchange server user list as they reside in a different city, viz Delhi & Bangalore respectively.     - Public Folders Migration from Exchange 2000->2003 We are going to be moving users from our current Exchange 2000 server to a new Exchange 2003 server. We will be moving a number of public folders as well. Both servers are in the same organization. What would be the better method of migration for the public folders...using the pfmigrate utility to do all at once, or setting up an actual replication partnership between both servers?     - Non-Delivery Report Copy forwarding Hi I created a 'postmaster' mailbox that receives NDRs and then set it as so that messages to this postmaster mailbox is also forwarded to another address which is a public folder. I think I have the permissions right. The PF is called 'Non Delivery Reports Postmaster' and the mailbox is 'Postmaster General Non Delivery Reports'. The PF is a sub-folder.     - Use our ISP as mail provider I need to setup Exchange 2003 to send mail from our ISP (mail.Bellsouth.net). BellSouth requires authentication to do this. Can someone tell me how to do this? If I do set this up, will a internal Exchange users sending to an internal Exchange user also have to go through the ISP and then back in? Just FYI We are currently using Novell GroupWise and planning to change to Exchange. Some blacklisting organizations have included our IP address as being blacklisted due to this range being part of BellSouth dial up /dynamic IP addresses(even though we have a DLS static IP address) The best way I have come up with to fix this is to send our mail through our ISPs mail servers (mail.Bellsouth.net) This does produce some big problems with GroupWise that I hope will not be a problem with Exchange.     - exchange 2003 Relay Config I need to allow my new Exchange 2003 server to relay email from my web-server which in inside the same domain and inside the firewall. In 2000 and 5.5 I was able to configure authentication via 'access' from the Default SMTP Virtual Server Properites panel, but I can't seem to find this GUI anywhere. I have the SMTP Connector properties panel which is configured correctly. Where would I go inside System Manager to configure this? Is it somewhere in IIS? Thanks in advance!     - uninstalling exchange 2003? recently I had installed the first and only exchange 2003 server (running on server 2000) it was running fine until because of a KVM switch problem I had to hard shut it down, and now the server in general is acting sick I tried to repair windows and some other things, but I am now tempted to just redo the server since it only has 2 mailboex on it right now what steps do I take to start over?     - 2003 Front End /w 2000 Back End Configuration We currently have a exchange 2003 front end server with a exchange 2000 back end cluster. When users attempt to access our front end OWA, they receive the 2003 form based authentication page, but as soon as they enter their credentials, they receive the old exchange 2000 OWA interface. Also, that user gets logged on the IIS log on our back end server. Is this normal behavior? Why is the backend processing all the requests, isn't that the job of a front end server?     - SBS 2003 & authenticated e-mail I have installed SBS 2003 onto a new server in our office. The e-mail side of things is dealt with via microsoft exchange server. My pop3 e-mail account requires authentication for outgoing e-mails, but I cannot see anywhere to setup exchange to authenticate the link to my pop3 e-mail provider. Has anybody else had this problem, and does anybody know a work around to this? By the way, we can receive e-mails no problem. It's just sending them out that we can't do. every tine we try sending a mail, a couple of days later we get an administrator message back saying the message failed.     - Upgrading My Situation: I have been asked to upgrade our Exchange 5.5 server to 2003, now the problem is we want to utilize the same server that is currently being used (HP Proliant), currently the setup is windows 2000 server with Exchange 5.5 SP4. Now the problem is that downtime has to be kept to a minimum since I work in a banking environment and things have to be up and running 24/7. My battle plan thus far is 1. Backup Server 2. Setup temp machine with win2003 running Exch 2003 also to migrate from 5.5 to that machine. 3. Fresh installation of server 2003 on HP Proliant server 4. Install exchange 2003 on that server and let it get all the data from the temp exchange 2003 machine I placed. 5. Once data has been transferred I proceed to take down the temp machine and voila...     - Exchange 2003 setup and nt4.0 coexistencce Using the Exchange server deployment tools I am at phase three in the exchange server setup task. Everthing is proceeding perfectly to this point. Item 3 in the checklist states that i need Full Exchange admin access and Exchange 5.5 admin at the Org level. I give the name of my existing 5.5 exchange server and proceed. The installation stops here and I receive a dialogue stating that "To upgrade your exchange 5.5 server or to add a new server to an existing MS Exchange site, the account you are signed on with must have admin permissions on the site and configuration objects' As per the wizard Using the Exchange server deployment tools, I do not see any Exchange admin account anywhere in Active directory or in NT 4 to add to the the Domain admin account (the one I am currentley signed on with ) Have I missed a step? How do I proceed after this point? I have read the Exchange server 2003 deployment guide and followed to the letter the Phased approach in the Exchange server deployment tools. Please help. The other day I installed the second exhange server on another server thinking as a backup server (This server is running dns also). Now the issue is but now all of our email now goes through the second server and then gets relayed to the first one and then gets sent out to the reciepent.     - Address Book Error Message I just recently added an Exchange 2003 server to my Exchange 5.5 site. Before moving over my entire organization (400 users) to the new Exchange 2003 server, I moved a few test boxes. At first it appeared everything was working fine but this was not the case. Whenever you clicked on the address book on an email box that had been moved over you would get an error message. "Can not open folder" I was thinking this might have something to due with AD or maybe the Global Address Book. Or maybe because I am running Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 together. Any ideas???     - upgrading from exchange 2000 to exchange 2003 hello. i'm having a bit of a problem upgrading from exchange 2000 to exchange 2003. i successfully ran forestprep and domainprep. when i get to the upgrade portion, i'm getting the following error when i select "upgrade" from the drop down: The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "Upgrade" because: - All Active Directory Connectors in the Windows forest must be upgraded to the most current version before you can upgrade Microsoft Exchange. The following ADC servers have not been upgraded: SERVERNAME i am running windows 2000 on all my servers including the exchange server. the exchange server is not a domain controller. i've installed exchange 2000 server post-service pack 3 update rollup. i tried to install the exchange 2000 post-sp3 update rollup for active directory connector but i'm getting this error: Setup has detected that the build version of the system installed does not match the update you are applying to it. You can only install this update on Microsoft ADC Build 6249 what the heck is going on? it won't let me update ADC, and it won't let me upgrade exchange because of the ADC. i thought installing the most current SP will automatically install and/or upgrade ADC to the latest? if thats so, then how come the post-sp3 ADC rollup don't work? I don't have luxury of testing these steps in lab so verifying the order since it's very vague in documents. 1. Load NT 4.0 on a new server as BDC. 2. Promote BDC to PDC. 3. Upgrade promoted hardware to Windows 2003. Install AD when wizard starts upon reboot. At this point the network as AD in place on a 2003 server. The Exchange 5.5 is still on old NT 4.0 box. dcdiag and netdiag runs clean on new server. 4. Insert Exchange 2003 CD on windows 2003 server and run "setup.exe /forestprep". 5. Run "setup.exe /domainprep" 6. Install ADC from Exchange 2003 cd on Windows 2003 server. During installation it should join Exchange 5.5 Organization and Site. NOTE: This is where I am confused. Do I instal ADC on Exchange 5.5 server or new 2003 server? 7. Install first exchange 2003 server on windows 2003 box. 8. Migrade mailboxes and public folders. 9. Until all mailboxes are migrated over to Exchange 2003, both server stays active and serves proper mailboxes while allowing e-mail between 2 servers. Migrate mailboxes and publix folders to new server. 10. When all mailboxes migrated, run AD clean up wizard and remove Exchange 5.5 server totally. Please correct me where I am wrong. An Exchange 2003 front-end server can be used to access an Exchange 2000
back-end server, regardless of whether or not it is a clustered back-end.
