    - Exchange 5.5 Server, Active Directory and Windows 2000 Server? I'm curious if anyone has implemented this setup. If you have any feedback regarding the feasibility and compatibility of these three titles, please share.     - Exch 5.5 OWA causes reboots When I access OWA and do any navigation other than the Inbox, I can almost always expect my Exchange 5.5 server to crash (with an unexpected restart in the Event Log). I'm on NT4.0 with SP6a and all the latest MS upgrades. Exchange 5.5 is up to date with all service packs. I access the Exchange server by port redirection on my DSL Router/Hub. All Inbox activity seem to work fine (i.e. look at emails, delete emails and create/send emails). It's when I go to places like the Deleted folder or the Contacts folder that server crash will take place. The server can run indefinately if I just use Outlook 2000 clients.     - Failed migration of public/system folders... We migrated from Exchange 5.5 to 2003, by adding a W2K3 server with Exch 2003 to an existing 5.5 domain. After moving all mailboxes successfully, the public folders were migrated, and the old 5.5 server removed. However, some of the public system folders failed to move (primarily the Schedule+ Free/Busy, and the Offline Address Folders). I wasn't involved directly with the public folder move or the 5.5 server removal, and suspect that something happened during the process that caused the failure of some system folders to fail in being migrated. My boss spent over 60 hours on the phone with MS Tech support, who didn't appear to even understand any of the problems, and finally stated that they were going to close the support case, still unsolved. He's spent over 3 weeks in trying to address the problems & is almost ready to either try erasing the 2003 server and reinstalling it from scratch (not upgrading from 5.5), then trying to recover the private mailboxes from a tape, or else moving to an entirely different mail server product, such as OpenMail on Linux, or Lotus Domino, etc. I've been able to restore the system folders to the \Folders\Puclic Folders\ tree in System Manager, but they will not replicate to the server's Public Store, and I cannot access properties for either folder instance.     - Exchange 2003 Setup Failed forestprep 1 domain controller - Windows 2003. Upgraded a fresh 2000 server to Windows 2003 to load Exchange 2003 on - currently running 5.5 on another server. I followed the "co-exist with 5.5" option in the setup and all seemed to work (4 pages worth). AD Connector worked -- all seemed fine. When I got to the Exchange installation step near the end it failed because it was unable to extend the forest. Running the setup with the /ForestPrep switch yields the same results. Here is the exact error message "A problem has been encountered in the Microsoft Exchange Forest Prepeartion setup component. Canceling setup." an OK button When I look in the Exchange Server Setup Process.log file I see this at the end [14:11:51] !!!!!!!!!!Setup completed successfully [14:11:53] CComBOIFacesFactory::QueryInterface (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\bo\bofactory.cxx:54 Error code 0X80004002 (16386): No interface It appears to have worked, but I can't get past this step.     - Multiple POP3 Domains on SBS2000 with Exchange I am currently running SBS2000 and 1 exchange server, using an internal domain name (domain1). I have downloaded and installed the POP3 connector from Microsoft because many of our users have external e-mail addresses as well. The internal domain (domain1) is the same as one of our external (POP3) domains. All e-mail going to external POP3 accounts (usera@domain1.com, userb@domain1.com) is retrieved via the Connector and delivered accordingly. However, I have also configured the connector to retrieve POP3 e-mails for our other external domain (usera@domain2.com, userb@domain2.com), but the connector does not retrieve these e-mails. Any thoughts? I have also downloaded and installed 2 demo versions of other connectors (POPCon & eXchangePOP) but with the same results.     - Migrating from POP3 to Exchange 2003 We currently have all of our e-mail setup as POP3 through our webhosting company. I have recently purchased Exchange 2003 so that we may take advantage of its benefits over standard POP mail. Does anyone know of any problems I may run into while doing this? I know some e-mails may be lost as DNS records are being updated after I switch mail.XYZ.com from our webhosting services server to our IP address.     - Going to Exchange 2003 I will be going to Exchange Server 2003 and, there some things I want in place when implemented. We currently have Exchange 2000 setup and things have been setup and well not sure if it's the correct way. I want things all controlled on the server level. I want to have all users having access to everyone's calendar by default. Read access, I don't want to have to have to users manually share out there calendars.     - Exchange 2003 - Clean install vs. Upgrade We are currently running Exchange 5.5 on Windows NT4 and have about 50 users and 3 domains We are moving to Exchange 2003 and I have a few questions on the best upgrade approach We have purchased a new server for Exchange 2003 because our old server does not meet the minimum requirements I am considering two options Option 1 Install Windows NT 4 on the new server. Then install Exchange 5.5 and restore our data to the server. Then upgrade the operating system to Windows 2003 and finally upgrade Exchange to 2003 Option 2 Start fresh with a clean install of Windows 2003 then install Exchange 2003 and migrate over the mailboxes I am not sure which option is the best approach or even the pros and cons of each. My gut says go with option 2 because clean is best and we have so few users.     - Migration Issue. Urgent. Friends, I have a little and interesting question. I am planning to migrate Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, right? But I havea doubt. I will install a new server, migrate everything (this has been tested and works perfect) mailboxes, public folders, etc. For example, the new server it is called exchange2003, the old server it is called exchange55. If I turn off the exchage55 server and change the exchange2003 name to exchange55 (like the original one) and the IP addresses to the exchange55, do the clients computers have to reconfigure they reading account properties? Or I can leave the exchange 2003 name and IP addresses with out modifying and make the changes in the DNS?, with this solution, the clients does have to make any change?, because I am looking for the best solution for the clients, they dont have access to modify anything and If I have to go to each computer to change the profile I will get crazy soon.     - Install of exchange 2003 Hi there, I have read through a couple deployment guides and have a couple questions before I go ahead and upgrade. 1. I have decided to install a new server with Windows 2003 as my Domain master for everything (PDC emulator) I'll let this run for a week or two just to ensure reliablity. 2. Once this has run for some time I will install exch 2003(I am currently running Win2K in native mode and Exch 2000 in native mode. I have about 8 exchnage 2000 servers accross the country, will the domain prep and forest prep effect my existing servers, as this will be a phased approach and will do one server a month. 3.     - Exchange 5.5 -> 2K3 - ADC Step 4 Problems Hi Everyone, We've recently upgraded to Windows 2003 at both of our sites, each site has it's own domain (NOT in the same forest) but they are linked by a two-way trust. We were running Exchange 5.5, with a server at each site but in the same organisation, the remote site has completed an upgrade to Exchange 2003 and is happily using it. However now i'm trying to upgrade(well migrate) our local exchange server, I've gotten through the install to the point of the ADC Tools setup, the first three steps complete successfully. However the 4th stage, during the Connection Agreement Wizard when you have to specify the Credentials for the individual sites the local site is fine, but the remote site gives the following error: "? Unable to find a responsive Exchange 5.5 server in the specified site. The operation has completed successfully." And you cannot proceed. I can't figure out if it's having problems accessing the remote server, or if the problem is because the remote system is running Exchange 5.5 and 2003!     - Static RPC ports I have a firewall/static port mapping question. A number of articles talk about assigning static ports for Exchange. In particular the registry key of note is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\Internet However I can't find where is it discussed how many ports you need to reserve. Usually 20 ports are mentioned as an example. How many ports do I need to "open/reserve" for Exchange? I'm sure it depends on the number of clients??     - How to preserve Rich Text Format on replies (Exch 5.5)?? Sorry about multiple positing, the first one got to the wrong group... Our Exchange server is version 5.5. Users have both outlook 2000 and 2003. I want to set up the Exchange server such that if a domain user replies to a message that arrived in Rich Text format from another Outlook user on the Internet the reply shall also be in rich text. As it is now our users receive the message in rich text. Then they reply and edit the reply with rich text so they can color code certain parts of it. And they also copy the reply to a user in the same company, i.e. on the same Exchange server. But when the reply is sent out to the original sender he receives the message in plaintext, whereas the internal user sees it in rich text as does the sender if he looks in his sent items folder! So the same message is different for these users, surely this cannot be accepted! If the sender changes the To: address, which has been put there by Outlook after clicking the reply button, to the same address but taken from his own address book, then the output message is in rich text to all including the person on the Internet! Obviously I want the message to retain its rich text format without the users having to change the address of the message after making a reply. So where do I set this?? I have looked everywhere I can think of. In the Exchange Server settings for Internet Email I have made every change I can think of.     - Problem Moving Mailboxes? 1. We have a Domain server running Win 2k Sp4. 2. We have Ex 5.5 Sp4 installed on a Win 2k Sp4 Server. 3. We have done a fresh install of 2003 Server on a new server, and then a fresh install of Exchange 2003. Once this is running properly, we want to move the mailboxes from the 5.5 to the 2003 exchange server. 4. I set up the Active Directory connector on the 2003 server, and it is running a 2 way connection between the Domain server and the 5.5 server, using the default LDAP port 389. It is replicating to the default objects (Active Directory users > Exchange Recients both ways) 5. I can see the 5.5 server on the 2003 server management snap in, but with no attributes. 6. I can see the 2003 ex server on the 5.5 server management interface but it will not let me move the mail boxes. 7. There are no events in any event logs mentioning the ADC's failures or successes. 8. When I first forced the Replicate Now option, in the Exchange 5.5 server, a Custom Recipient was generated for every mailbox. I have a feeling the ADC is not running correctly. Any suggestions?     - Exchange 2003 server in Exchange 5.5 site Hi, I've configured the ADC between the 5.5 exchange and the Windows 2000 domain and its all working fine (using the Exchange 2003 ADC). I've just installed my first Exchange 2003 server into the 5.5 org however when I run the System Administrator as the administrator I only see the Recipients and Tools branches (missing Global Settings and Administrative Groups), but if I logon as exch_srv (the Exchange 5.5 domain service account) I get the normal view and works fine. Administrator does have full permissions in the Exchange 5.5 site so I don't know why this is happening. Also if from the Exchange 5.5 Administrator application I try and view the Logons container of the Mailbox Store of the 2003 server I get a MAPI error, is this normal? I get the same error when I try and run the 5.5 administrator on the Exchange 2003 server, "You do not have the rigts required to complete the operation". Even logging on as exch_srv trying to move a mailbox from the 5.5 to the 2003 fails (part of the error file below:) <summary isWarning="false" errorCode="0xc1050000"> The information store could not be opened. The logon to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer failed. MAPI 1.0 ID no: 80040111-0286-00000000 The server I installed Exchange 2003 was just a normal Windows 2003 server (not a domain controller). Any ideas?     - urgent email/domain problem, please help i have an active directory domain lets say called domain1.com exchange 2003 is installed and working fine for the domain. email can be sent and received to and from the domain1.com domain. i need the same exchange server to also be able to handle email for domain2.com. i was told it was as simple as setting a recipient policy for "@domain2.com", which i did. as im sure you can imagine, it doesnt work. from within the office, if i use outlook to send and email to the domain2.com domain it works fine. of course the whole idea is to have email sent from the internet addressed to domain2.com handled by exchange and that is not working. if i try i get mailer daemon messages saying user unknown. i have a user in the domain called jim@domain1.com in active directory i have configured an additional email address for the user: jim@domain2.com i have also set up the recipient policy in exchange. can someone please tell me what to do? as of this morning the dns changes are live and domain2.com is not accepting email. please respond to jjd228@optonline.net thank you so much Tag: failed to install site replication service error 0xc1030b11 Tag: 108323

    - Setup of Exchange with a PDA Need help configuring Exchange/Outlook with a Pocket PC. Exchange 2000 is running on a Windows 2000 Small Business Server. The Outlook Client is Outlook 2002.     - Installing new Exch 2003 Guys, I would like to add a new server box and install a windows 2003 and exchange 2003 and join my existing windows 2000 domain. Here is what I have currently: 2xwindows 2000 DC(still in mixed mode) with SP3 1x windows 2000 with SP3 and exchange 2000 with SP3(member server) I would like to add new windows 2003 box as member server on a windows 2000 domain and install exchange 2003 on it and join exchange 2000 org Questions: 1. Since I need to run setup /forestprep and setup /domainprep before installing exchange 2003, what steps I should be taking care of before running these utilties. I mean some kind of fall back or roll back schenario just in case something happen to the AD during the forestprep/domainprep setup. I understand that when you run these utiltities it will do some schema changes on the windows 2000 AD to accomodate the Exch 2003 2. As per my current set-up, does my Exch 2000 will works after running the above utilties 3. Assuming that the setup /foresetprep and setup /domainprep is successfully done on my AD. While installing the exh2003 on the new box, will the exchange 2003 installation prompt me to join an existing exchange 2000 organization/site as in the case of Exchange of 5.5.     - Trouble with Public Folders I recently upgraded my Ex2K Server to sp3 and in so doing upgraded my OWA installation. Here's the problem. After installing sp3, the Public Folders became available in OWA apparently with no discretion with regard to the user. I decided to change the permissions on the Public Folder and restrict the availability to only certain users using ESM. Apparently, this was a huge mistake. I inadvertently deleted the Owner of the Public Folders and now none of the users on the network can see the Public Folders. Apparently having Admin privileges is not a substitute for the owner role. 1. How can I gain access to the public folders again? Based on my research, I think I may have to use the PFAdmin utility but I have no idea how to use it. 2. How can I restrict access to the public folders in OWA once we can see them again? I really wish I had asked before deleting the permissions and not afterwards, but then again hindsight is 20/20! Your input is greatly appreciated. The goal is this exchange server will host serveral non-contigious domains for different companies, say: company_abc.com company_xyn.net Each group of users should have their own unique administrative policies. Since exchange 2003 is tied so closely w/ active directory and the method of installing users into seperate groups is to either multiple domains or multiple forests. I've already installed active directory on the Win2k3 machine and have what I believe to be the 'root forest domain'. A active directory domain with only a handful of administrators. To create a new forest or domain to hold a new group of customers belonging to a new administrative body I did read the docs and ran dcpromo The problem is dcpromo just prompts to remove active directory - not to install an additional domain or forest... My question is - how do I add an addition forest to put users belonging to seperate administrative groups and non-contigious dns space? - sentence was a mouthful.     - Exchange unable to create mailboxes After installing Exchange 2003 as the first installation in a Windows 2003 Domain, I was able to create mailboxes in Active Directory using Active Directory Users and Computers. However, when I open up System Manager and browse to First Storage Group\Mailbox Store\Mailboxes, it only lists the default system mailboxes and not the ones which were just created. When I tried to set up the Outlook client to send and receive mail using one of the newly created accounts, I get the error message that windows cannot locate the default mailbox store and will have to store messages locally. The Clients are using Outlook 2003 and have the recommended post SP1 update installed. The recommended registry entries have been done on the server side and RPC over HTTP protocol installed. Client is configured to point to proxy server at the correct address. Firewall log indicates the packets are being blocked due to the use of port 135?? I created a firewall rule to allow ports 80, 443, 543, 6001, 6002 and 6004 to pass through to the private IP of my Exchange server which is also the Global Master role. Is there a registry entry that needs to be done on the client systems to use port 80 instead of 135? What an I missing?? Hi,

This is most likely due to some sort of networking/DNS issue. What do you
see in the exchange server setup progress log in the root of C:?
