    - System attendant contains no home-mdb/mta I've seen several questions asked about this, but I've not yet seen an answer. It's been over an hour since the Exchange2K3 install, but I still keep getting the results below when I run ConfigDSInteg. Does anyone have any idea what this means and/or how to correct it?     - Forestprep and Domainprep Trouble Hi there, I have been trying to install Exch2k3 into my network and have hit a brick wall. Our current setup is and Exch5.5 Sp3 server running on NT 4.0 Sp6.0a. This server is a BDC in our Win2K domain. There is one Win2k server running AD. There is no ADC connector between the Exch5.5 directory and AD. I downloaded the updated deployment tools and followed all the testing procedures and reviewed all of the logs and found no errors. Then I ran ForestPrep, which also completes with no errors. I waited overnight and ran DomainPrep, which fails with error 0xC00708AC. Searching the knowledge base on that error comes up with some stuff about ADC, nothing about DomainPrep. I read the log and found the error and the group it is looking for is ' ' (Yes that is single quotes around an empty space). Any ideas? Tag: OWA and external web site on same server Tag: 126404

    - Help with RPC over HTTP and requests for Credentials Alright, I have this set up at about 25 total locations, 20 of which are working flawlessly. The other 5... well please let me know if you can help! I have each location logging into a domain accross a VPN. I have implemented RPC over HTTP to minimize the load on the VPN equipment. The issue is that at 5 of these sites, they keep asking for the logon credentials when you go into Exchange. I have installed the certificate from the server, I have made sure that the terminals are using credentials that have not expired. If I allow the terminals to connect using the normal RPC method that would require the use of the VPN it works fine, I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out this issue. I suspect it has something to do with a registry setting or other configuration issue that I have not been able to find i the last month or so. I have experience with setting this up correctly, but there is something else wrong. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.I have searched the newsgroups for possible answers to my issue and the posted responces to previous questions did not resolve my issue.     - 5.5 to 2003 migration, changing IMC before mailbox migration? I am in the middle of a 5.5 to 2003 migration, I have a couple mailboxes migrated for testing, and no public folders are migrated yet. The ADC seems to be working fine, messages are delivered to recipients across the servers. Due to the amount of spam I am getting (the poor old 5.5 server just can't take the volume anymore), causing errors in IMC, can I change it so the new 2003 server is running the IMC instead, without affecting the mailboxes that are not yet migrated?     - SSL 40 bit or 128 Bit encryption? I'm going to implement SSL on our OWA and wanted to know what people recommend and their experience.     - ADC Config CA LDAP Port incorrect Platform: Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 My ADC has the incorrect port defined in the connection aggrement for Config CA. I think it was fat fingered by someone. On the connections tab, in the Exchange Server information part, the port says 379 not 389 and it is all greyed out (I can't change it). Any ideas?     - First server in a site refers to deleted server Hello all, Recently introduced our first Exchange 2003 server into a Exchange 5.5 site. Originally we had 2 Exchange 5.5 servers EXCH and EXCHG2. After we introduce the new Exchange 2003 server we followed the instruction on Q152959 to decommision EXCH. We moved all mailboxes, Offline Addressbook, Public system and user folders to the new Exchange 2003 server EXCH2K3. We then removed the EXCH server from the site. As far as I can see everything is working fine. What is a bit troubling is the fact that I still see a reference to the EXCH server(decomission Exchg 5.5 Server)as the Site folder server. (viewed using ADSI or admin /r) Site Folder server CN=Public Information Store (XCHG)\0ADEL:83797f76-b5b2-4480-abe4-946b73cc830d,CN=Deleted Objects,CN=Configuration,DC=domainX,DC=com Should I be concerned? Will this pose a problem later when I go native? I'm thinking of correcting this, so that it refers my new Exchange 2003. Does anyone have any advise?     - E2k3 OWA not working with SSL in FE/BE Server Environment This is the error we are getting: <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;325097> But the Default Web Site property already uses port 80 for TCP and port 443 for SSL.     - Offline Adressbook are not realy there.. Hi Technetteam, i have got a problem with the offline Adressbook in exchange 2003. The History: First Exchange 2000 on Server 2000 (all SP`s ) then migrate inplace to 2003 (Server and exchange) For this i build a secound server calld mail 2 to remove the mailboxes from the first on (savety only :-) ) and avter them i push back every mailbox to server one (now 2003) At this point everythink work fine. But from one to the other day, the secound mailserver crashed, and i lost them. OK, i read support.microsoft.com, found a lot of information about rebuild the public folders, and do it. NOW, i can rebuild the adressbook, but every client told me, there is no one. (outlook xp and 2003) I Think, there is 2 thinks possible.: First, there is something wrong in ads (Can i check the ad about offline adressbooks) 2. The adressbook is`nt rebuild. some ideas?     - Best compromise Raid-levels Hi A friend an and I disagree about an Exchange 2003 RAID-configuration. Facts: A HP Proliant DL 380 with 6 x 300 GB Disks, and 4 GB RAM, Windows 2003 Std. and Exchange 2003 Ent. Totaly 3500 mailboxes, about 400-500 at the same time. 20 GB + 40 GB Private store. 100 GB in public Store ( E-mail archive). I want to have one RAID1 (2 disks) for OS+Pagefile+Log-files+ Exchange-program. And a RAID5 (4 disks) to Edb/Stm-files. My friend want to have one RAID0+1 (6 disks) I know about that is best to have. OS on one Raid 1. Pagefile on one Raid 1. Log-files on one Raid 1. Edb/Stm-files on one RAID5. Have I or my friend the best compromise?     - ADC-Global-Names in Exchange 5.5 has only 2 entries We recently setup Exchange 2003 in our Exchange 5.5 environment and are converting users over the next few months. We have 30k users in AD that don't use Exchange, but use another email system. We set up a connector between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 5.5 so that Custom Recipients would be generated in Exchange 5.5 so the external addresses to Exchange would appear in the addressbook (we have to fill in an email address in the mail attribute for the replication to take place, which we do). 360 out of the 30k Custom Recipients only have 2 values in the adc-global-names attribute in Exchange 5.5. When I try to send to them from Outlook 2003 using my Exchange 2003 mailboxes we get this error: The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address. <myserver01.mysubdomain.mydomain.Com #5.1.1> Any idea why the connector would only populate 2 values where all the rest have the 4 values? Q316280 explains the adc-global-names replication in a round-about way. Deleting the CR from Exchange 5.5 and removing the email attributes from the AD2003 account and then mail-enabling the user does not work. Deleting the CR from Exchange 5.5 and removing the email attributes from the AD2003 account and then waiting and hour before mail-enabling the user appears to work.     - remote access HELP.. I have an exchange 2003 server behind a linksys router which is connected to a DSL line. I can connect to it via http://server/exchange with no problem. However when I go into outlook, it will ask me for my username and password - same as the web access- but after that, it tells me that the exchange server is unavailable. Any ideas?     - POP3 headaches Trying to sort through the mess of getting an SBS 2003 box running smoothly. Thankfully, Microsoft sent plenty of documentation to help me through the process--especially for the bundled programs! Right... Well, I'm trying to get Exchange running smoothly. I have several users that must access their accounts directly and others that must access through POP3. I have everyone accessing directly up and running smoothly. However, getting the POP3 and SMTP servers running has been a royal pain in my neck from Day 1. I went back to square one, and have the Default POP3 Virtual Server set up with these properties: -General -IP address: (All Unassigned) -Advanced: (Default settings) -Limit number of connections to: (Unchecked) -Connection time-out (minutes): (10) -Access -Authentication -Basic auth. (password is sent in clear text) (Checked) -Requires SSL/TLS encryption (Unchecked) -SASL (Checked) -Certificate (Not configured) -Connection Control -All except list selected with and empty list -Message Format (N/A) -Calendaring (N/A) The Microsoft Exchange POP3 service is started (automatic). I know users are getting a response from the server when they try to initiate a POP3 session. When I stop the POP3 service, they get no response / timeout errors. When the POP3 service is started, every attempt to initiate a session results in unknown user or bad password errors. Every user has everything enabled under Exchange Features in their profile(s) (including POP3). The settings on each client machine (using Outlook for testing purposes) are: -User Name / Password: -I have tried this a million ways: DOMAIN/USER, DOMAIN.local/USER, USER@DOMAIN, USER@DOMAIN.COM, USER@DOMAIN.local...you name it, I've tried it. -Log on using Secure Password Authentication (Tried both ways...unchecked now.) -More Settings -Advanced -Using all default pors, etc. Can someone please help?     - Same user for different company My environment is two servers, one Win2003 DC-GC, second is Exchange 2003 with all current SP. I am hosting 5 companies on same Exch 2003 server. I set a Virtual HTTP server for each company domain so that each company can log on using their own FQDN (mail.company.com). Under Exchange Path, I selected Mailboxes for SMTP domain, and selected their UPN suffix. For recipient policies, I am only assigning each company their own FQDN, not the main Exchange Organization. All users are successfully logging on using their full email address and password. (Windows 2000 logon is problematic due to 3 line authentication win XP is ok 2 line authentication) When I create the Users, I set their User logon name to what they want their email address to show up as, and select their UPN from the list. For pre-Windows 2000 I enter their name with an _ and their company name. This allows me to have the same user name for different companies. Is there a better way to do this?     - How do you turn off NDRs in Exchange 5.5 I'm running Exchange 5.5 + SP4 and Nov 2004 Update Rollup. I've gone into the notifications of the Internet Mail and unclicked everything but I still see messages in the outbound messages waiting delivery with the originator of <>.     - OWA unable to open attachments Have a Exchange 2003 with sp1 server that will not allow OWA clients to open document type posts. By that i mean posts other than straight text. They can open them with the Outlook client just not OWA. I get a HTTP 403 error when someone tries to open a document on through OWA. Have a second E2k server that works but cannot find the IIS setting that would fix this. This is not a client permission problem no access from Owner to Reader will work on opening Word, PDF or other documents posted to public folders. Any Ideas?     - Sending emails between 2 storage groups and recipient policies I have two Exchange 2000 servers in the same organization and am having problems sending emails to the users located on the new server (new storage group). Those users located on the new server can send emails internally and externally. The internal domain is internal.com, but the email addresses I use in the organization are external1.com and external2.com and in my recipient policies in ESM, I have set external1.com to be the default and the other two are present. I have played around with these and I think it's the setup of this which is causing the problem. However, I've not been able to fix my problem by making internal.com the default.. it just stops emails all together and they disappear into a black hole.     - Ex2003 IP address and move mailbox I currently have W2k 2 DC and a single Exchange2000 server. I am upgrading with new hardware to exchange 2003. Our Ex2000 has IP 10.4.10.1 and an offsite company routes email to that address, so when I have the new Ex2003 server ready can I just move mailboxes and then put that 10.4.10.1 IP address on the new server? I have read some posts that you must leave the old server up and running for a bit after moving mailbox, is this to allow all users to log on for the first time or something? The old w2k server will have to have a new IP of 10.4.10.2, does that matter?     - cluster configuration I have a new client that called me in to help him get his 2-node Exchange cluster (Active/Passive) up and running. It is working now, though we're still testing and haven't actually implemented it in the organzation yet. The basic scenario is this: Client has cluster compatible HP hardware (servers and SAN). SAN is used for several different applications. When I arrived on the scene the cluster had already been created with ALL resources created in the same cluster group. I have asked the client to reconfigure the cluster with separate groups for Exchange, DTC, Cluster, and a non-IIS webserver which he insists on running on this cluster. So far he has declined citing the complexity/headache of reconfiguring the SAN. (There are 2 physical disk resources. One for the quorum disk and one for everything else.) He has not created either Network Name or IP resources for the DTC. This is a small organization with fewer than 40 total Exchange users. I suppose I have two questions for those brave enough to weigh in: 1) Are we headed for disaster with every resource sitting in the same cluster group? (It's not too late for me to fight for reconfiguring everything.) 2) What are the implications of not having NN and IP resources dedicated to the DTC? Thanks in advance for any advice.     - Creating an e-mail account I apologize for asking what must be an easy question. I am administering an exchange 2000 server, and am having a difficult time adding an e-mail account to an active directory user. If i go about creating a user from scratch I get a window that appears asking me to fill in the appropriate information to create an exchange account. However I am creating the user using the copy user tool, and i don't get the dialogue. How can i go about adding an e-mail address. I assumed if I right clicked on the user it would be listed under exchange tasks but it isn't.     - Age old Upgrade from 5.5 to 2003 but with a few new twists I have a single exchange 5.5 server running under windows 2000 with AD and all is great. We also run unified messaging so our voicemail is on our email server as well. My question is this. I have been doing some research and I think I have my upgrade plan ready to go but I want to double check with a few of you before I do it. Step #1 I was planning on taking a temporary server and putting it in the same 2K domain, add exchange 5.5 to the same organization. Step #2 Move all my users from the old 5.5 server to the newly built temp 5.5 server. Step #3 Take down the original 5.5 server and completely format it again, install Server 2003 with the same naming scene it had before, then Exchange 2003 into that original Organization. Step #4 Configure all my domains and all then more my users over to the new server. will this work? The reason I am shooting for this config is since we do use Unified Messaging I dont want to risk losing all that information. In that domain I have two seperate servers doing Global Catalog and the other roles so removing the original server wont hurt anything.     - Unable to receive SMTP mail on Exchange 2003 I am attempting to replace an NT4 server running Exchange55 with SBS 2003 advanced running Exchange2003. The external domain name stays the same. The router stays the same - just redirecting TCP port 25 to the new SBS server. I am able to send email out using an Outlook client attached to the new server but get no email coming back in. I have verified that I can telnet to the new server on port 25 and that the SMTP addresses on the clients I have setup are correct. When I run the email checker from http://msv.dk/ms980.asp ; I get the msg: SMTP server failure: Operation timed out. I have run the wizard setup and checked other settings several times. I have been combing through deployment guides, exchange publications and MS KB but can't seem to find any answers . I am attempting to upgrade from exchange 5.5 to E2K3, on a separate server, in a W2K3 AD network. The problem I am running into is with the Organization or Site name. When I run SetupPrep it appears to go through fine. We do not want all users to have access to OWA just yet, however by default everyone is turned on in Active Directory. like to bring it internal, but I'm not sure how to set it up. Our only
server we can use for the site is also running OWA and I read it can't share
an ip with another site. We have a few spare public ip's. What steps
should I take to setup a web site without conflicting with OWA?

I am not sure what the issue is with using your OWA server to host your
company web site, as long as it is the Default Web Site of a non clustered
server.

The only issue comes in when you create a whole new HTTP Virtual Server in
the Exchange System Manager, and then try to use that New HTTP Web Site to
host content.

So, if you have a non clustered OWA server with the Default Web Site hosting
OWA, then I am unaware of any conflicts with OWA.

If you have more specific issues, please let me know
