Hi,
I have a rather large problem. I had two win 2k servers
one of which was running exchange 5.5. I am upgrading to
win 2003 server with exchange 2003. I'd heard of problems
migrating to exchange 2003 from 5.5 so I used exmerge to
extract the pst files from the 5.5 server. I figured I'd
just demote the old exchange server and build up the new
on and update Active Directory and then import the pst
files into the new 2003 server. Well, it almost worked.
Except that I have the problem that after I import the
pst file into the new exchange server it takes the same
email address as it used to have on the old exchange
server. This is what I want but... If you email that
users email address it bounces back saying that there are
2 users with the same email address in the organization.
Also if I just create a mailbox for a user in the domain
and try to give it the same email address as that user
had before it says that the address is already in use on
the organition. If anyone can help with this I'd be very
thankfull. I can't just remove the email address from the
5.5 server either as it is no longer connected to the ad.

Cheers

Guy

Did you have the ADC installed at any point?. It sounds like you do in fact
have two users with the same email address. Do an advanced find on a user
and search using the beginning of the email address and see if it finds two
objects.

When you installed Exchange 2003 did you install it into a new Organization
or join it to the old one? As you are going exmerge to pst's then a new
organization would be better and their would be no interaction between the
5.5 and 2003 exchange servers. At the cut over point you change the MX
record or what ever was sending mail to the 5.5 server to now send to the
2003 server.

Importing the pst file into the new exchange server is not creating the
duplicate email address. The email address should be automatically generated
from your Recipient Policy.

Hi Glen,

Yes I did choose the same org name. Ooops I can't find
the other user by searching. I think I'm going to nuke
the new exchange installation and reinstall with
different org name.

Thanks for your input.
