    - OWA 5.5 does not authenticate users Hi all, This problem is really annoying, I was able to install OWA on exchange 5.5 server just fine, my main OWA page comes up ok as well, when I enter my mailbox name, it promts me to enter my "domainname\user and password" which i do, but it doesn't authenticate, keep prompting me again and again. However If I do it from the exchange machine it self it seems to work fine and let's me into my inbox. I'm using windows 2000 domain, no ssl for now.     - Second Exchange Server and OWA Hi, This is my first post, so please excuse me if i did anything wrong. I am sort of new to Exchange 2003 administration and I need some help with this. I am a network administrtor for a small health care firm and I am setting up a second exchange server for the first time. Our current setup is one excahnge 2003 server running on WIndows server 2003. We have recetnly moved our adminstrtion staff to a satalie office connected to the main office with a frac. T1 with just over 1 meg for the data side. I have a DC out at that site and that is it. I am getting a faster e-mail server for the main office and I want to move the old one out to the admin site to allow for faster access to the e-mail. We are also deploying a new website which will be hosted on a web server in the DMZ zone of my firewall. I also to release OWA to the agency, but I only want them to have to go to one server to access thier e-mail through OWA and everything that I have read so far is that if I deply a front-end and back-end server, It will look like I might losse the speed increase for that I am trying to get.     - RCP over HTTP Problem Hello I've setup rpc over http and it seems to work, however outlook seems to hang for a good 3-4 minutes before it logs into the mailboxes. The exchange 2003 server is named server1.domain.com however in dns I use mail.domain.com When I configure outlook to use mail.domain.com it freezes and changes that to server1.domain.com. I've set the exchange proxy settings to use https://mail.domain.com however when I open outlook it takes ages to make the https connection, it hangs trying to connect to server1.domain.com. Interestingly enough, when I connect using the same configuration using a different computer on a different network it actually does work even though both computers are configured identcally.     - Exchange 2003 Upgrade question We are going to be upgrading our 2000 exchange environment (1 front end and 1 back end) to exchange 2003. I have a connector (the SAP Exchange Connector) that will only run on Exchange 2000. This connector can be installed on any machine running the 2000 administrative tools for exchange.     - Public Folders Not Replicating I have 1 E2K server in our company. I added a new Ex 2003 (Sp1) server. I am in the process of retiring the old E2K server and just having the new Ex 2003 server. I am able to move mailboxes, but I can not get the public folders to replicate. It shows up on the replication tab of my public folders, but it never shows up on my new Ex 2003 server. When I click on the Details button on a public folder on the old E2K server, it says "local modified" on the new server. We don't use many public folders anyway. Does any one know how I can get around this, or can I just recreate the public folders on my new Ex 2003 server, and point clients to the new server for public folders? I also am having trouble with the Offline Address Book & Free/Busy times. I realize this is part of the public folders.     - Error 550 wanted! I run an Exchange 5.5 SP4 (under NT4) hosting emails for multiple domains. The email server is configured to accept SMTP for only those domains, and it works quite well. What I'm looking for is a way to have the SMTP server reply with an error 550 when a user does not exist for a local domain, instead of accepting the message. When I send a message to john@mydomain.com, the email is accepted in the SMTP session, and later returned to the sender if john@ does not exist. This way, it looks like I accept email for any user @mydomain.com.     - POP3 and Firewalls We are currently using exchange 5.5 and have a firewall in place. We have a remote user who wants from home to download his email to a mail client he has installed on his laptop. He connects his laptop to a ADSL line and then wants to download his email to a to the client and also send emails but his from address should be from his company email address. So he has a POP3 client and and I need to install POP3 on exchange 5.5 and also open a port through our firewall for POP3. As he is using a adsl line how would I setup a rule on our firewall for only him to download email from our exchange server. Does the ADSL line have an Ip address or something.     - 3 Questions 2 OWA 1 Exchange 2003 Hi I have upgraded Exchange 2003 onto a 2 domain site.     - Outlook Web Access Deleted After ISA Installation I recently installed SBS2003 on a new server at work. Everything worked fine to start with. I could access the Outlook Web Access over the internet and check my emaisl from anywhere. Then i wanted the server to act as a proxy server so i installed ISA server from the last disk.     - SBS 2003 I've set up my SBS with company.local and I configured a connector in exchange 2003 for my own personal domain as a test. I'm receiving email just fine from the outside world but when i'm sending something out it's not making it. Where do I start to look?     - Quickest and Safest Method I have inherited a twenty-five Node Windows 2000 Small Business Network with one server with SQL & Exchange 2000, File and Print Sharing, and all the necessary services for it to work, i.e. DC, DNS, DHCP, WINS, etc. running on it. The Server is continually failing for one reason or another. The Company has bought the licensing to upgrade to Windows 20003 Small Business Premium Edition. They would like the server backed up, clocked, and then a fresh install of Windows 2003, Exchange 2003, etc., and their Data restored and operational all done in the overnight, two nights from now. Data is approximately twenty gigabytes. Any ideas on the best course of action. Any articles or books recommended? I am definitely looking for a good Exchange 2003 Server book.     - Removing last 5.5 from 2003 group errors I could not find anything on this... are the errors I encountered because I was deleting a 5.5 server from an E2K3 server ? (using the E2K3 CD 5.5 Admin program.). Happened on test network, in prep for deleting 5.5 from production network, which we are ready to do as well. During the delete process (6% and 10% respectively) -- deleting the last (first and only remaining) 5.5 server from E2K3 Admin group: "Extension 'MSFB' could not be located" (Abort, Retry, Ignore). "Extension 'MS' could not be loaded" (Abort, Retry, Ignore) I searched Technet and the only article re: MSFB was 183205 "XADM: Cannot View Connector Properties If Permission Not Present". This was not the case. I said Ignore. A KB on the second error indicated permissions issue but also possible .dll version incorrect. I said Ignore.     - RPC over HTTP general question Do I have to have a perimeter network to use RPC over HTTP. I currently have Exchange 2003 SP1 running on a Windows Server 2003. This server is also a DC with the global catalog. I also have 2 other Windows 2003 servers on the network. All of this is behind a Cisco PIX 515E firewall.     - Joined first E2003 Server to E5.5 Org and E2003 System Attendant falls over.... Hi (Big long post, but I'd rather put too much info in than too little) We've just in the process of migrating a customers site from NT4/E55 to W2003/E2003. Here's what our customer had. NT4 PDC with E5.5 (Call it NT-MX) 4 x NT4 BDC's Here's what we've done: Installed a new NT4 server as a BDC and promoted to PDC. (Call it 2K3) Installed W2003 over the top and did all the dcpromo magic. So far, so good. Everyone could still log in and AD and the NT SAMs seemed to be synchronising between the 2003 DC and the NT BDC's. Next I joined another W2003 server to the Domain and ran dcpromo on it. (Call this one 2K3-MX, as it will be the Exchange Server). Still good, checked replication and all seemed fine. Ran Forestprep and all seemed ok. Ran DomainPrep, that said it installed ok. Ran the Orgprepcheck and that (eventually) said everything was good Running DCDIAG on each 2003 DC showed some errors, but these disappeared after time (presumeably replication related). Ran the Active Directory Connector, which installed fine. Ran through all the wizzy bits on it (No problems with resource mailboxes - took there of that before all this started by going through the 5.5 server). Setup the connections between 2K3-MX and NT-MX. Waited a while and looked through the AD User manager and lo and behold, I could see Exchange server tabs populated with information from the 5.5 DS. Installed Exchange 2003 and joined the existing organisation. Here's where it goes pear shaped. After installation, Windows reported that the application MAD.EXE crashed twice. I rebooted the server and checked the services. The System Attendant service was set to Automatic, but not running. The Information Store and MTA were up and running though. Manually started the System Attendant, which runs for about 10 seconds before falling over again. Event Log says the Service Control Manager reports that the System Attendant service terminated unexpectedly with event id 7034. Also logged was an application error in MAD.EXE with the faulting module being NTDLL.DLL Running sc query on the system attendant service comes back with FAILED 1060 - not an installed service. Installed E2003 SP1 in the hope it might fix things but to no avail Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm finding almost no references to this particular combination of errors... I'm wondering whether I should just delete the ADC connections, then try to uninstall E2003 and re-run forest and domain preps, then re-install it. The SMTP/POP3 portions through Outlook clients works fine but when we try to access OWA through Explorer using http:/servername/exchange we get the 'service unavailable' message in the browser.     - Error Trying to download Offline Address Book (Exchange/Outlook 20 I am using Exchange 2003. I have created my Default Offline Address List, which includes several address lists from my Exchange Server. I have tried to "Rebuild" and waited over an hour (less than 500 users). When I try to download the Offline Address Book from Outlook (2003, 2002, 2000), I get the error message, "An error occured while opening the Microsoft Exchange Offline Address Book files on the Microsoft Exchange Server. See your administrator." I feel like I may be missing something basic here, but what?!?     - (DS/IS) consistency adjuster prior to moving Public folders from 5.5 to E2k3 and Nov 2004 Update Rollup We're moving our exchange system from 5.5 to 2003 and we are ready to move the public folders. In my readings it says to run the (DS/IS) consistency adjuster on the 5.5 side to remove sids from the PF tree but the consistency adjuster does more than this which may have some side effects. Exchange 5.5 has a new rollup package dated Nov/Dec 2004 which has a fix for the consistency adjuster and exchange 2003 SP1. This rollup package fixes problems with the (DS/IS) consistency adjuster as read here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836489 The rollup states that the previous May 2004 Update Rollup package must be uninstalled before you install the rereleased Nov 2004 Update Rollup . What is the package that I need to uninstall. Is it the one that it replaces? I list hotfix KB829148, KB833317 and Exchange Updates of: 821543, 829436, Q282533, Q289258, Q304062 and Q326322.     - OWA Security In OWA when you open an attachment its gets downloaded to the Temp internet folder. Then when you logoff OWA that attachment still stays in the temp folder. The problem is when you are viewing your attachments at a Kiosk (unsecured machine) or Customer site the attachment will still be on that machine. I know in IE there is a checkbox to clear Temp internet folder but I can control that on my secured machines. Ijust don't want this to be on machines that I have no contyrol over. Is there any way to control attachment handling on the server side with OWA? or is there a way to clean the temp internet folders from the server in OWA?     - Running DS/IS consistency adjuster I just reinstalled my Priv & Pub files onto a new server with the same name as the original server (in my test lab). I think i need to run the DS/IS consistency adjuster. I don't want to mess-up the install (it look for ever to get the files on the server).     - Directory Object Cannot Be Found I just recovered Exchange 5.5 on a 2k domain. This is the second time I have done this. However this time I am reading the following error when accessing the mailboxes on the Information Store: "The object could not be found in the directory. this may be because replication has not completed (microsoft exchange directory ID no: c1010aae)." When accessing the mailbox from a client machine I am reading the following error: "THe name cannot be resolved. The name could not be found in the address book." I just used the KB article Q195363 to resolve the issue. This did not work. The structure of the exchnage server matches that of the production server.     - Exchange 2003 Partitions I have a 5 disk RAID5 config. With 210GB available (after redundancy). I have read a lot about seperate drives for log files but I thought RAID5 spanned all drives anyway? We are not a high demand environment. I used a dynamic IP-address for this, but then the connectivity test (within dcdiag) failed. I need to configure the static IP-address which I'm using, but how do I do this?     - Access to exchange 2003 for user's from Internet - options Hi. Thanks in advanced for any help. I need to provide access from Internet to internal Exchange server. Exchange 2003 Standard running on Windows 2003 Standard Server. (1 Server in Domain currently) Server has 2 ip address 10.10.10.12(main) 10.10.10.8(backup for removing Spam Marshall for testing). IP Address for incoming SMTP xx.xx.xx.219. The Firewall I am using doesn't do Port Mapping, but it Does NAT very efficently. The incoming smtp mail 1st hits a Spam Marshall Appliance(10.10.10.11) which then forwards the smtp traffic to Exchange server(10.10.10.12) - Firewall basically allows incoming smtp, OWA(https), Citrix client. Using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Sp1 plus patch 331320 for outlook or SP2. external domain is domain.com(so mail.domain.com points to xx.xx.xx.219). Internally the server names is mail, domain is domain.local. Our Web site(www.domain.com) is run off site by someone else and this will not be changed. Firewall Static NAT's xx.xx.xx.219 to 10.10.10.11 Firewall Static NAT's xx.xx.xx.220 to 10.10.10.12 Currently have OWA setup and running and using SSL. User go https://xx.xx.xx.220/exchange . - User would perfer to use Outlook client instead - they got kinda spoiled by old email system ability to use the same client external or internally with just a IP address change whened they logged in. So I setup IMAP access - got it to work, but I can't configure SSL on it due to Phone/voice mail uses same connector. I supposed I could create another connector but user don't like this way either. So I though maybe just use Outlook client and figure out what ports I need or use RPC over HTTP. I tried RPC over HTTP since I found the Articles to set it up 1st. Didn't work. So I tried just plain outlook client, by disabling filters on firewall, so that all traffic would reach the exchnage server, (just for testing), while this was hit or miss wether or not it would connect anyway. When it did it was slow. At least I think it was. I log into OWA and install certificate on W/S before trying to connect using RPC over HTTP.When testing RPC over HTTP I tried from home and from internal Office, when typing outlook /rpcdiag, I never saw it connect using RPC over HTTP. trying from home does work at all until I shutdown filtering on firewall, then its hit or miss if it works. I used article 833401 on setting up RPC over HTTP on single server. Tried Articles 822594 - RPC over HTTP is not successful or reverts to TCP rpcping.exe -t ncacn_http -s ExchangeServerName -o RpcProxy=ProxyServerName -P "user,domain,*" -H 1 -u 10 -a connect -F 3 -E -R none I think I should see this, but all I see is last line RPCPinging proxy server ServerName with Echo Request Packet Send ping to server Error 12175 returned in the WinHttpSedRequest Ping Failed I used Article 827330 for troubleshooting. Steps 1 through 7 work as expected according to article. Step 8 says to use RPCDUMP to verify port configuration. The registry setting is there for NTDS.     - Migrating Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 I am planning to move from Exchange 2000 standard edition to Exchange 2003 Enterprise edition. I inherited this network and there are two separate forests. I'm going to build the new Exchange 2003 server and then want to migrate the mailboxes from the old Exchange 2000 server.     - Exchange 5.5 MTA & Event Services Won't Start On Win2K After a serious virus problem on my Exchange Server 5.5, I had no choice but to wipe and reinstall the operating system which was NT 4. Since it was overdue anyway, I upgraded to Windows 2000 server, reinstalled Exchange with all service packs and patches and followed the instructions in the MS "Installing Exchange Server 5.5 on Windows 2000 Server" and the Exchange 55 Disaster Recovery guide. While I can can attach to the server with Outlook and see all my old data and everything appears to be correct in the Exchange Administrator I'm having a problem where I can't start either the Message Transfer Agent or the Event Service and the message I get is "Could not start the Service on the local computer.     - Unable to send mail from an external server to Public Folders I'm migrating a 5.5 server to E2K3. I've replicated my public folders and my E2K3 server is now taking all inbound SMTP traffic. If I try to send mail from an internal account to a public folder it works just fine. If I try to send mail from an external mail account, it is refused with error 5.2.1. According to MS, this error can be caused by "an absent Master Account Security ID number (SID) on the recipient". I'm unsure how to fix this for my public folders. I have a single 2k AD, on a single win2k domain controller. Also on this
server is Exchange 2000.

I have a new server with Windows 2003 and I need to install Exchange 2003
Enterprise on it. Is it simply a case of doing the forest prep etc,
installing, then moving mailboxes using the ESM?

Also, can i keep the IM server part of my exchange 2000 installation as 2003
doesnt have this feature?

I don't think IM will survive, check out the deployment guide form MS.
