Hi, I just built a exchange 2003 server and used exmerge to import mail into
the server. There was approx 25 gig of pst files.
During the end of the exmerge the transaction logs filled up the drive and
killed the exmerge.
I tried to run a online backup but it failed because there was no space left
on the exchange drive (exchange stopped also)

What would be be best course of action to fix this?

thx jason

Is there anywhere to free up space? Enough to start the store?
If not:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q182961
XADM: Using Eseutil to Determine Which Logs Have Been Committed
and delete the logs you dont need and run a full backup.

Hi, there is no free space. Would a Offline backup remove the logs?

Hi, What if I enabled circular logging and let it purge the transactions;

Sure, but I prefer backups on production servers. So be sure to get
one as soon as possible.

I would just compress bunch of log files using NTFS compression and quickly run
online backup.

AFAIK, NTFS driver does that in memory i.e. if app wants to read at offset xxxxxx then
only data (with some granularity) at that offset gets read, uncompressed and returned
to app. And most certainly it will not try decompressing all log files at once, so this
measure should work in emergencies.
