All, Exchange 2003 SP1 In order to alleviate winmail.dat errors for recipients at one of our customers, I'm testing the Internet Message Format policy functionality. I have configured a two new test domain policy within Global Settings/Internet Message Formats to force plain text for the domains (hotmail.com) or (gmail.com). Message Format tab: MIME, Provide message body as plain text Character sets: US ASCII Advanced tab: Exchange rich-text format: Never use Message text word wrap: Never Use Allow delivery reports: Checked Allow Non-delivery reports: Checked Default Domain policy still exists. When I send an email out (Outlook 2003) formatted in HTML or Rich Text to either domain, the formatting is still showing on message received on other end???     - MS Mail Post Migration Issues I have recently completed a migration from MS Mail and VPOP to Exchange 2003 Enterprise. I've uploaded all the pst files via exmerge and everything is running very smoothly. But there's a small problem, if anyone replies to an old email it's in the form of Windows/PRODCON/username and comes back undeliverable. Is there any way within exchange to setup mappings or any utilities that will change the stored data so i can replace the MS Mail addresses with valid email addresses.     - OWA missing contacts I have installed SBS 2003 on a new server, the clients connect with Outlook 2003, everything seems to have installed ok.     - How to see all aliases in Active Directory We have Exchange 2000 running on Windows Server 2000. We are also running GFIMailEssentials 10.1 to filter out spam. There is a new feature in 10.1 that allows you to detect directory harvest attempts. It does this by flagging emails that have multiple recipients in our domain but some of them do not exist as possible such attempts. It queries the AD for each address and only if it gets a record back does it assume it's good. The problem is that some of the users have more then one alias tied to their exchange mailbox and when GFIMailEssentials queries the AD only the primary addresses get acknowledged as such. This causes many false positives for those users who have been actively using more then one alias. How do I get the AD to acknowledge the aliases as valid so GFIMailEssentials can do a better job of detecting directory harvest attempts? Jim Kyser Consultant to Aires Consulting Group, Inc. If you have just run Connection Agreement Wizard, allow time for directory replication to complete, and then rerun the verification task in Step 4. Otherwise, run the Connection Agreement Wizard. I installed the ADC almost a week ago. As you can see Pass 2 of 2 never completes. Is this normal or should I be looking for errors elsewhere? I am running 6 different sites connected by WAN links. The exchange 2003 servers are all installed throughout the enterprise. I was hoping to do some testing and replicating public folders using pfmigrate. Of course I can't run pfmigrate until the ADC completes due to Article 885826. ADUC does show about 7000 public folder objects. Can anyone help me by telling me how long the process could take or where I may look for errors. I am receiving an event log error about every ten minutes of the following that may shed some light.     - Exchange 2003 with Calendar Using AutoAccept Agent Hi. I am a first time user of this site. I have an Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003 on the desktop. We are a law firm and I am trying to create a Master Calendar that everyone will post appointments to as they add them to their personal calendars. I have created a resource user/mailbox. I have installed the Microsoft AutoAccept Agent and registered the mailbox that I created. You can send appointments to it and they are created, updated or deleted per your appointment request and the proper response is sent. Here is where the problem is. As this is going to be a master calendar, there may be multiple entries for any given time. The AutoAccept Agent will accept the first entry at any given time, but if that entry was sent marked as busy then the AutoAccept Agent refuses all other entries for that time. If the entries are sent marked as free, then it will accept multiple entries for that time. My question is there a way at the server or on that mailbox's calendar to forceably change all entries to that calendar to be added as free so that the AutoAccept Agent will continue to accept ALL entries?     - SBS 2003 with OWA on front end server I recently upgraded a client from W2k, Exchange 5.5 to SBS 2003. I was using another 5.5 box as the front end server for OWA. This front end server also hosts other web apps, email gateway etc. Using the same setup I cannot get OWA to work with 2003 and SBS2003. I would like to use SSL but it's not required. Currently the web server is redirecting the webpage to the SBS box which doesn't work. The client only has 1 static IP and I'm using port forwarding to the IP of the internal web server. I cannot move the port forward to the SBS server due to the web apps on the web server.     - Sending mail to another SMTP server I want to use Exchange 2003 on a dynamic IP DSL line. Using a dynamic DNS service/program I can get updated DNS entries and everything works fine for receiving email. But when sending email SBC won't let me do it since it's coming from a dynamic IP. My web host (currently using for web and pop) says if I can send the email to their server it will send it out. The only problem is it needs to send with a username and password.     - PubFoldCheck Error Hi, I am migrating from Ex 55 to Ex 2003 using Exchange Server Deployment Tools. On phase 3 running SetupPrep, i have this error on ExDeploy.log : "Error: PubFoldCheck detected an error while performing Public Folder DS/IS Consistency Adjustment on the Exchange 5.5 server. Check the Windows Application Event Log on that server for details" On Application Event Log there aren't any warnings or errors. I already run DS/IS consistency adjuster on the Ex 55. I guess it's better not run Setup before resolve this issue, but i really don't know what can i do more. Any comments or suggestions will be highly appreciated.     - Exchange Configuration Questions Can someone help me with these couple Exchange questions? I just setup an Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server for someone. I noticed that after I ran forestprep and domainprep the existing users didn't get all of the Exchange specific tabs in their account properties. If I create a new user with a mailbox and mail database the tabs are there. Is it because I haven't created mailboxes for the existing users? Also, when I connect an Outlook client to the server I cannot browse the Global Address Book. Did I miss something? I am able to send emails between users locally and from each user to the internet, but I cannot browse to see the users. I also do not see all of the folder structure under the profile I am using. All I see is Inbox. I am sure I missed something small. IFS - When I try to browse the mail folders for the users on the system I get a permissions error. I am logged in as the user that installed Exchange and ran forestprep and domainprep. Do I need additional permissions to see the mail files for all of my users? IFS - Isn't there supposed to be a share created by IFS called BackOfficeStorage so users can see their own email files? It is not there. I do have the M:\ Drive locally, but it is not shared.     - Installing ESM on Windows 2003 SP1 I get an error that it's not supported. This machine is a DC and I wanted to install ESM to get the Exchange tabs in AD on this server. Also, the security settings on IE are too high and have trouble even getting the install to run. Even if I lower the settings, it revers back to the orginal setting.     - A/A to A/P cluster Hi everyone, I'm looking at doing a swing server upgrade from an A/A exchange 2000 server, to an A/P exchange 2003 server. Can anyone who's done this before, or has info on how to go about doing this respond? The documents I'm finding only address an A/P to A/P in-place/clean upgrade. I noticed that these services can be run under and account rather than the system acount. I created an accoint and made it a member of Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins, but I could no longer start Exchange, I had to go back to the System Account. 1.     - Exchange relay for Exchange I am trying to get one exchange server to send email to another. Server [a] would receive email that is sent to it from outside the network. I have created another domain with exchange server [b] this domain is in its own forest etc. I would like to some how allow server [a] to receive the email as it normally does, but relay email that sent to domain [b].     - Ex55 and Ex2k3 coexistence I have a test lab of 2 nt4 domains. I installed Ex55 w/sp4 into domain1 and tested all ok. I upgraded the PDC in domain1 to w2k3 (there is still an NT4 BDC in domain1). I setup a new w2k3 (s23exc01) server to be used as an Ex2k3 test server. Running exdeploy from s23exc01 as the Ex55 service account user in domain1, I get all sorts of errors. Exdeploy first tries to tell me that the problem may be related to permissions but it can't be because I'm using the service account. Looking at the errors it seems that exdeploy is complaining about things I haven't been instructed to do yet. It seems to want me to have already installed the ADC and replicated the Ex55 recipients to AD. My users are already in AD as a result of the upgrade of my NT4 domain. I simply want to install Ex2k3 as a new Exch server in my Ex55 org/site. Once the Ex2k3 server is there I will move mailboxes from Ex55 to Ex2k3. I am assuming that the migration process will link the existing AD user (that already has access to his Ex55 mailbox) to his mailbox on the Ex2k3 server. What am I missing here? Maybe I'll just install the ADC and see what happens. I figured the first thing you should do to install Ex2k3 is to run the deployment wizard but it seems to assume that I have completed other steps first...... Help......     - Exchange Newbie Question hello, I am new to Exchange and have been asked to help someone setup a single Exchange server at he business to host emails coming in from he website. I have installed Exchange before and know about forestprep and domainprep. There is a functional Win2k AD setup at his business so everything is good on that front. I am just not sure what all needs to be configured on the Exchange server in order to send / receive emails to / from the internet and have users be able to access the emails from their workstations. Do I need to configure Administrative Groups and Routing Groups? Do I need to configure Connectors at all for this single server setup? The network is a DSL line with a static IP. There is a cisco 678 DSL modem forwarding all traffic internally to a Netgear Firewall. Currently the Netgear is forwarding all traffic out without restriction. I will need to add a rule to allow incoming traffic on POP3 and SMTP (if we decide to use POP3). I would also like to enable OWA. I think that is as simple as pointing the default web site in iis to http://servername/exchange. Is that correct? Please give any helpful tips if you have them.     - Repaired bad block, Exchange stores won't mount I posted this to the SBS2003 group, but since the problem is Exchange, this is probably the correct group. I have a single, one year old, IDE hard drive in my test SBS2003 box, Exchagne 2003 SP1, ISA 2000, SQL Server, Trend Micro C/S/M. For three or four days I had "bad block" errors in the log. I first ran Chkdsk (without repairing) to verify the bad block. I then ran Maxtor's latest disk utility, which said it repaired the disk. No more bad block errors... Now everything works except that the Exchange 2003 database stores won't mount. All the services are running. I have a full backup and the current transaction logs. I think the stores were corrupted by the disk repair, but I don't know if I can test this theory. The error msg's are: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: MAPI Session Event ID: 9175 Description: The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000 Attempting to mount the stores I get: An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both. ID no: c1041724 I've looked at quite a bit of Microsoft documentation concerning this issue. However, I'm in over my head trying to restore/repair Exchange. I think I need a remote fixerupper (consultant). Is there a 2003 version of http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313184? As part of doing this they are proposing that we stand up a totally new forest. I am not apposed to starting a new exchange organization but I am trying to figure out if it is necessary to stand up a new forest in order to do another exchange organization.     - Exchange to receive external emails and dns Hello, We have just purchased a server with Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003. We currently receive our emails via pop3 from an email host (1and1). We now wish to receive our emails directly via smtp to our server. What are the steps you have to take to get exchange to send and receive internet mail? I have started dns running on our server but I'm not sure what records to put in it. We are currently using someone elses dns for internet exploring.     - Relay to offsite employee We have an employee that works offsite and I want to configure the Exchange 2003 mailbox to relay incoming mail to the employee's home email address. I set up the mailbox and a mail-enabled user for the external address. I set the user's mailbox to deliver all mail to the external address. Mail from within our office sent to the user's internal address is relayed to the external address without a problem. Inbound SMTP mail is not relayed, it is bounced back as delivery failed (5.7.1).     - Query-Based Distribution Groups Hi there, I'm trying to get to grips with query-based distribution groups in Exchange Server 2003 (on a Windows Server 2003 machine). I've converted Exchange to native-mode and am now able to create queries. What I want to do is create a distribution group that contains only people who are currently logged on to the domain. The reason for this is due to the number of "All" emails that end up going into people's inboxes while they are out of the office or on holiday, or just away from their desks. So, hopefully, I'll be able to send an email to "Logged On Users" (or whatever the group is called) and the query-based group will only send the email to people who are currently logged in (it should be checking this each time the mail is sent, as it might have changed since the last time the group was emailed). After installing exchange 2003 on the new server we've moved a mailbox to the new server. We didn't do anything on the connector or on the IIS remote domain. When we try to send an email to the outside (from the new user that we moved) we get the below error: You do not have permission to send to this recipient.     - Migration from Exch5.5 to Exch2003: successful but... Hi, I migrated a Exch 5.5 Server to Exch2003 SP1, using ADMT, ADC, moving mailboxes from Exch5.5 to Exch 2003... When it was time to depromote the old Exch5.5, I tried to migrate public folders using pfmigrate. However, I have had problems with this tool, since it was able to migrate my PF structure, but unable to migrate the contents of the folders. I decided (late at night :-D) to continue the migration, copying manually the PF data to a local PST, copying locally also the Organization Forms, and pushing all this to the new Exch2003 server. I missed then the System Public folders. Now I have 'removed' the old Exch5.5 server, everything seems OK. Exch2003 is in native mode in my Windows 2000 Active Directory. What problem can this give to my organization? I've detected that the SCHEDULE FREE BUSY folder, that was empty at the beginning, is now beeing fulled with the users information. But can I have any other problem related to this issue? (if the problems are big problems, I can roll back the migration since I have copies of everything... but that would take hours!!!!) PD: I had also problems with the DIstribution Lists, I had to change the Expansion serversm this was not documented. PD2: the problem with the PF replication was related to, I think, the fact that the SMTP connector beetween my 2 Exchservers was marked as 'disallow public referrals'... what a pitty!     - Migration Exchange 5.5 to 2003 error Hello, I'm trying to migrate our NT 4.0 domian with Exchange 5.5 to Win2003 AD with Exchange 2003. I've been using the setup wizards and everything works great until I get to the Exchange 2003 installtion. Step 3 Phase 3 in the wizard. I run the setup and when it asks for the name of the 5.5 server I get an "Unable to bind error..." Below are the details from the Install Log. The error is slightly different then what I've been able to find in the KB. You'll see the dapiaaccess.cxx:xxx numbers are different then what is listed in the KB articles.     - Exchange 5.5 to 2003 setup problem Right now we have 2 w2k DC running on mixed mode. One W2k server with Exchange 5.5 and we tried to install a new W2k3 Enterprise member server with Exchange Server 2003. We ran the whole installation process and everything was fine until we were asked to install the Exchange Server Software which tried to run Forest Prep (again) and now its giving the following message in the installation screen: "A problem has been encountered in the Microsoft Exchange Forest Preparation Setup component. Canceling setup". I cannot continue since the installation of Microsoft Exchange Server stops there. I have run all the check tools and the correct steps in order in the deployment tool using "Coexistence with Exchange 2003". Do you have any suggestions? we have 5 NT domains with 5 Exchange 5.5 servers that uses Site Connectors
between them.
Now IÂ´ve updated one of the domains to Win2003 AD and are about to install
Exchange 2003 on a new server.
When setting up ADC for the Exchange 2003 server, do I have to configure
agreements for all sites connected in my Exchange 5.5 or just for the
Exchange 5.5 server in my upgraded AD-domain?
