    - cannot connect to mailbox after new install I desparately need some help fast! I have 2003 AD native environment. Previous IT admin did a test install of exchange and removed the exch server afterwards. Now I was able to clean out the AD, rerun forest prep and was able to install exch 2003 with sp2 with no problem. but after the install, it seems like I could not create a mailbox and have it show up. I tried to create an outlook profile and it says "the name could not be resolved, the bookmark is invalid" Looking under "First administrative group/servers/exchange_server/first storage group/mailbox store/mailboxes", I can only see 3 default mailboxes. Shouldn't I all of the user mailboxes I created here? This is a exch std version so i can't create another mailbox store to test. Please help! Thanks in advance.     - run Exchnage forestprep and install Exchange 2003 during business Hello everyone. I am about to roll out Exchange 2003 Server. We did the windows 2003 Server migration couple of weeks ago it all went very well, big thank you to some of the Microsoft newsgroup members for your help. We are currently running 1 Exchange 2000 Server, 3 windows 2000 Server and 2 Windows 2003 Server on our network. One of our 2003 Server holds the entire FSMO role. I have created a test lab which model to our current network infrastructure and server setup with AD , DNS and exchange 2000 Server running. I ran Exchange 2003 forestprep and domainprep on the test 2003 FSMO Server and installed 2003 Exchange server to a test Windows 2003 member server with no error on the exchange 2000 server. I can sent and receive e-mail. My question is should I run forestprep and domain prep and install Exchange 2003 Server during business hour. Anyone has done this?     - Is IIS a prerequisite to install Exchange 2003 (or at least admin tools) I downloaded the evaluation version and just started the install. I ran forestprep and domainprep. When I run Exchange setup, I cannot select typical under "action". It says "The Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools cannot be assigned the action "install" because : - The NNTP component of Microsoft IIS is either not installed or disabled - The SMTP component of Microsoft IIS is either not installed or disabled etc I selected a Custom install and selected None for the tools, but it didn't seem like Exchange installed at all....no errors, said it finished, but I see no services, no changes to program menu, etc...     - Moving Exchange2003 to New Hardware KB 822945 (and/or its in TechNet) describes exactly what I'd like to do to implement an upgraded server hardware for a client's Exchanage 2003 Enterprise system. Three questions: 1. The article says "to move Exchange 2003 to a new computer and keep the same server name, the new computer must have the same operating system installed as the original computer." The existing hardware runs Windows Server 2003 Standard SP1; the new hardware has Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1 (in order to take advantage of more than 4GB RAM). Are those considered the same or different operating systems for the purpose of the Exchange move procedure? 2. Given that this is the only Exchange server in the organization, there's no Site Replication Service running and the backup/restore of the Sire Replication Service database can be ignored, correct? 3. An alternative to the KB822945 procedure is to load Exchange as a 2nd server in same site, then move mailboxes, leave the first one up for a week or so, and then remove Exchange from the old server. We definitely don't want to have to touch Outlook profiles on all clients. But Outlook should self-adjust as long as Exchange is running on the 1st server, correct?     - Exchange/outlook problem have just migrated a Exchange 2000 sp 3to 2003 sp 2. Still having the old one running. Both servers are domain controllers ( the old one will be depromoted when everything works fine ) I moved all mailboxes to the new server and all clients changed ok. Now some of the clients can't delete mails in the deleted items folder and they can't create new folders. Some can't move mails between folders and som get errors when opening folders ( could not locate or resource error ) When they connect with OWA there seems to be no problems. The clients are windows xp pro sp2 with Outlook XP sp3/sp2 and with no sp. Sometimes they can delete items through the terminal server which they can't on their local. Outlook.exe runs at about 100 percent cpu when trying to create a folder. When you hit delete on a mail in deleted items nothing happens.     - Rerouting SMTP On my exchange 5.5 IMC I was able to configure Message delivery-->E-mail domains- to deliver email with certain domain name and a specific IP address. Example rdcet.org 148.66.21.89. In this case all internal email addressed to this dmain will be routed to the IP address.     - Multiple people using 1 mailbox HELP !! Thanks in advance for the help here is the situtation We have a few mailboxes that we need multiple people to have access to, I never had a problem doing this using exchange 2000 and outlook 2000 but since I upgraded I can not get it to work (upgraded to exchange 2003 and outlook 2003) example johndoe@abc.com is set up on exchange as a mailbox and janedoe@abc.com both need access to sales@abc.com and support@abc.com previously I would just set up their account then add sales and support under the advanced tab on the exchange server where it says open these additional mailboxes. Since I changed over johndoe@abc.com and janedoe@abc.com their mailbox works fine, I added sales and support to johndoe@abc.com and that worked fine, but when I added them to janedoe@abc.com it comes up with unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location. I have not run into this problem before, I do not know if there is something I need to do different with Exchange 2003 or Outlook 2003 that I am missing.     - BCC + Read Receipts Hi, Where a user has been included in an email under the BCC field, is it a known issue with Exchange 2003 to not deliver these emails to the correct user but delivers it to the 'specify mailbox for undeliverable pop3 emails' as set in exchange 2003? I've tested this one 3 servers I deal with and all emails where a usr is as a BCC always goes to the undeliverable mailbox. Also, Read Receipts. Only going to be two Storage Groups, questions are: For DB files, going to use RAID 0+1, for Log files, going to use RAID 1. Total 13 physical drives in a HP MSA 30 enclosure Senario 1: for SG1 - two drives will be mirrored into RAID 1 and partitioned into E drive for log file, and 4 drives will be RAID 0+1 and partitioned into F drive for DB files for SG 2 - two drives will be mirrored into RAID 1 and partitioned into G drive for log file, and 4 drives will be RAID 0+1 and partitioned into H drive for DB files And the last drive will be a hot spare Senario 2: - For SG1's Log file: two drives will be mirrored into RAID 1 and partitioned into E drive for log file, - For SG2's Log file - two drives will be mirrored into RAID 1 and partitioned into G drive for log file, - For DB files in SG1 and SG2: set up all 8 drives into ONE RAID 0+1, and partition it into F and H drives, F for SG1's DB files, and H for SG2's DB files And the last drive will be a hot spare In summary, senario 1 has two RAID 0+1 groups, one for each partition which is for each SG's DB files, whereas Senario2 has one RAID 0+1 which is partitioned into two partitions - one for each SG's DB files. Is there any difference in terms of performance between these two setups? Or in reality, there is no difference or not worth considering the difference? 2. The paper named "optimizing Storeage for Exchange 2003 Server" talked a lot about set up one partition for SG DB files, one for Log file, one for SMTP queues.... And Content Indexing is also mentioned. But do we really need to put Content Indexing into its own Partition, say, I drive which is a RAID 1. If we do not need do this, where do we put Content Indexing? Put it in the partition where SMTP resides, or the partition where Exchange binary resides?     - Install Exchange 2003 server in 2003 Domain Can someone point me in the direction of a good 'How to' for the following. I am going to install a new Windows 2003 server as a DC and want to put a separate Exchange 2003 server on the network. Users will authenticate through AD on the DC and be able to access OWA, OMA, Exchange and POP via the separtate Exchange 2003 server. This will be for around 150 users if that makes any difference. They already have an existing 2000 DC with Exchange 2000 on it but I am not migrating any of this data as there are issues that I don't want to come across. This has to be a totally clean and new install and has to go perfectly.     - Exchange usage on Child domian HI, I have a domain with exchange 2003 named west.tcg.com We have a new office where I created a child domian called doral.west.tcg.com. I need the users on the child domain to have email on the exhcnage server in the main domain. When I create the user on the child domain server, it gives me all the options for exchange tasks to create a mail box. But when I check the email addresses tab, no emails show up. If I do it manually, for some reason it seems that the child domain is not creating the mailboxes on the exchange server. I created a child domain to seperate the branches, but they need to use the same exchange server and email addressing. Background: - Migrating E2K site to E2K3. - Changed existing E2K-FE to a BE to start the migration. - Successfully built an initial E2K3-BE, itâ??s idling just fine in site. - Successfully built second E2K3 machine. o Let machine idle in site for a couple of days (allowing nightly maintenance to take place). o Then converted the machine to the new site FE, but did not point anyone at it. o Following good practice I dismounted and deleted the Public Store on that server before putting it into production. During this procedure wizard ask me to pick a machine to home existing public folder instances on. Since I had not replicated any site instances at this point, I picked the first E2K3 machine I had built assuming that the default instances would be the same. o Finally I pointed all site cnames at the new FE machine. OWA and POP3 functioning correctly off new site FE server. Issue: - Iâ??m now continuing with the original initial E2K3-BE server getting it ready for a mailbox move migration. - Iâ??m at the step when Iâ??m ready to migrate (replicate) site specific public folders to the machine and I notice that the following default instances now have DUPLICATES. o GlobalEvents o Internal o OWAscratch o StoreEvents Question: - Is this a problemâ?¦., if so how do I fix it? o Can I just delete these duplicate instances? - If so how? o Should I dismount and delete the public folder store on that server? - Will doing so populate new single default instances when I add a new public folder store back. - But what should I do this time if asked where to copy the existing instances? o Do I need to de-install (delete) this server and build it again? - Remember this is the first E2K3 server introduced into the site (if that matters).     - SMTP Virtual Server Email address Issues I'm sure I'm missing something simple on the one but here's the situation. Our intranet server is sending email via SMTP through the Exchange servesr to users. When I point the SMTP to relay through an old Exchange 2000 machine the "from" address shows up as an Exchange type email address (Lastname, Firstname), when I point the SMTP to relay through the Exchange 2003 machine the "from" address is showing up as a SMTP email address (1stnameLastname@company.com). As far as I can tell both of the SMTP Virtual Servers are set up the same. I've tried this from different SMTP servers and through telnet with the same result.     - Outlook Web Access from Internet I have setup Outlook Web Access and it is working internally. However when I access from an external address I am getting a: 404 Not Found !!! The requested URL was not found on this server The URL I am using is mail.domainname.com/exchange and I can telnet to this address fromport 25 and 80 from the outside.     - Exchange 5.5 data converted to Exchange 2003 I am running into an issue where I need to convert Exchange 5.5 backed-up data into Exchange 2003. I have run through everything on the Windows site, and can only find that you need an exchange 5.5 server up and running to convert exchange 5.5 data to exchange 2003. What I need to convert is all Exchange data/emails/public folders. My reason for this is to basicly utilize the current data on hard drives to convert to 2003, but the real world reason would be data was corrupted/lost on Exchange 2003 and someone would still have the Exchange 5.5 data.     - Notes 6.5.3 to Exchange 2k3 mail migration. Hello All, Our company will be moving to Exchange 2k3 later this year. Sadly however, this operation will be performed by a portion of the company that seems to not care too mauch about our operations here in North America. As a result, I've been asked to perform a 'test' migration to get a feel for what will be happening and have a better handle on things should the implementation go wrong. I'm an Access admin so my Exchange and Notes mail experience is limited to personal use of the two different systems. I've managed to build a test server with Exchange on it so that I can try a mini-migration. At this point though I have no idea what to do next. Looking for some REALLY basic help or maybe a pointer to a checklist or walkthrough I can follow. Here's what's setup so far: Server setup running 2k3 Enterprise edition. [SP1 applied.] Made it a PDC for a fake domain 'testexchange001realdomainname.com'. [Our network is currently Novell with no AD setup. We will have AD later on but only for the sake of running the Exchange server.] Server is attached to our internal network. The server is running its own DNS to support the fake domain. Exchange 2k3 SP2 evaluation edition installed on server. [Nothing configured yet because I don't know what I'm doing. :)] What I want to accomplish: Test mail migration from Notes 6.5.3 server to the Exchange server. [Without disrupting the operation of the current mail system, I'd like to keep my job. :)] Not concerned with trying to migrate all the mailboxes, maybe just mine to start with. [If I have a process that works for one mail account then I see no need to test the other 158.] Remember, I'm a DB guy. Go easy on me as I have no experience with mail adminisrtation.     - Exchange 5.5 to 2k3 Currently have a new 2k3AD domain in interim mode (1 2k3DC and 1 NT4BDC). The BDC has 5.5 on it. Our Domain is totally separate from the other entities in our Exchange environment, we connect to HQ via an X.400 connector for GAL replication etc. Have run the 2k3 Deployment tools up to the point of the ADC Resource Mailbox wizard (all OK so far). The mailbox wizard sees the thousands of other mailboxes in the exchange organisation globally and running the wizard gives the expected "the data collection tool found objects that must be marked as resource mailboxes etc etc" An associated error flags up "A security identifier for the associated windows NT account of a mailbox could not be found etc etc" presumably meaning all the mailbox resources globally which are not part of our domain. Waiting for a couple of days I ran the verify of step 3 and get the same SID error. I assume that this is because I have no control over marking those mailboxes as resource mailboxes as they are in domains I have no control over? How do I proceed from here?     - Building 2003 test domain issues Here's what I'm trying to do.... (test my 2003 upgrade based on a model of our domain) Have taken 2 servers promoted them to DCs (both global catalogs), in a domain with 12 other DCs. They replicated & participated as part of the domain fine, for about 2-3 weeks. I took them off the domain, and they are now only connected to a switch, and only see each other. I went into ADSI and erased all other DCs. I can manually replicated AD from one to the other, through AD Sites & Services. However, I am still getting errors in my Event Logs: DC2 EventId 1000 Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. Return value [1355]. DC1 EventId 13566 File Replication Service is scanning the data in the system volume. Computer DC1 cannot become a domain controller until the process is complete. The system volume will then be shared as SYSVOL. I've waited (since it suggests a process needs to complete), I've waited days.....and no change. Both servers have a (once good) copy of AD, and DNS; both are global catalogs and domain controllers. (AD test, I can login with two different AD accounts....??) Has anyone else been down this road?     - Permissions Hi I'm currently on a client site migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 The Domain is Mixed Mode. I've run Exdeploy - DSScopeScan and Orgname check however when checking the logs there are a number of enteries "Warning: Either you do not have permission to view hidden objects in the Exchange 5.5 directory, or the directory is not Exchange 5.5 SP1 or later. Returned information may be inaccurate." When seeing these I noticed the account I was using was the built-in administrators account and this did not have any permissions on the Exchange 5.5 org. To correct it, I logged into the Exchange server and added the built-in Administrator account to the Exchange 5.5 organisation permissions. Within a few minutes of doing this all users including domain admins could not view the GAL or send any emails. Can anyone offer any ideas as to why? Many thanks.     - Email Address issues with Notes Migration We are migrating from Notes to Exchange and for some reason when someone recieves emails, they can't reply to them. Here is what the email addresses show up as: Raymond_Giamona/First_Administrative_Group/SCIREX%Exchange@scirex.com or rzingaro%zingaro.com%SMTP%Exchange@scirex.com Any ideas why the % signs and modifying of external email addresses? This doesn't happen when the mail is delivered to an Exchange recipent. Only happens when the mail get to a person on Notes who has not been migrated yet.     - Exchange Server Migration/Decommission 2000 - 2003 Kevin and Ace answered for my prior questions in reqard to this in DNS group, but I am posting it now in Exchange Newsgroup. We are having problems after I shutdown the old mail servers (I did remove the replication of public folders and system folders in my old mail server). The only thing, I did not do is, to uninstall Exchange on the first mail server. I shutdown the server, since I wanted to test and see that it does not have problems. But, before that, I would like to give additional information on our current situation. We have 2 mail servers 1 for staff and 1 for students. They are as MAIL1 and MAIL2, let us say. The new mail server is MAIL3 where the staff mailbox has been moved to (MAIL1 to MAIL3) including all the public folders. MAIL3 is the Master server now. The issue is when a new user is registered, and since the desktop is already pointing to MAIL1 (in Outlook profile) and am not sure how MAIL2 is resolving to MAIL1 also (do not know exactly where the settings are in place in Exchange). The desktop concern is , can it be changed on the Exchange server side so that, even though the desktop is pointing to MAIL1, that the server can handle this by redirecting it to MAIL3. I hope, I am trying to be clear in what I am trying to say. Is there a way that I could do some changes on the Exchange Server 2003 (MAIL3) server side, that irrelevant of what the desktop image is pointing to, that new users will automatically get re-directed to the new mail server MAIL3. 2. Also, I noticed that after I shutdown the old mail server (MAIL1), there was one user as of now who complained that she could not access the calendar and it was looking for the information store. But, once, I turned the server back ON, it was functioning.     - In the Middle of Migration Hello all, I am in the middle of a migration. I have set up the AD in server 2003 with admt. I have created the trust between 4.0 and 2003. I have run exdeploy tools in new domain. I have finished forestprep, domainprep and ADC connector on 2003 server. Everything in ADC is verified. I am attempting to run the install (setup of Messaging and Collaboration services) and am getting an error. Once I set to coexist with 5.5 organization and click next, and then insert 5.5 server name, I get a binding error. I have all the logs, ADC and exdeploy, if that would help.     - DNS Services Hello all, I set up an Exchange 2K box on Windows 2000 server in 2004 and then I left the company I set it up for. I recently was rehired by the same company on cntract part time to replace the Admin the had. When I started checking the Exchange server I noticed that he had uninstalled the DNS server service on the exchange box and now there appears to be replication problems with AD. It appears that if the DNS server on the network is down that noone can connect to the exchange server. I have six users that need remote access to a server (terminal server) to share Calendar, Contacts etc. They also need access to hundreds of Word documents. So I configured one server to do it all, Terminal, Exchange, File Server. It's working ok. Just had some questions about how the drives are partitioned and mirrored. I have two 160GB drives, mirrored and partitioned. Drive C = 12GB for Windows 2003 server only. Drive E = 148GB. I installed Exchange Server to E:\ExchangeServer. I configured File Redirection to move users profiles off of C: and re-direct to E:. Drive E is Mirrored also. Shared files are on E also. Drive C usage is at 5GB with 7 to spare. (Forest prep, Domain prep, etc.) After the installation however, my workstations have Outlook 2000 and 2003. They get the error "Unable to display the folder.     - Server 2003 upgrade OWA cant be access outside of network Hi, We have just conducted a upgrade to Server 2003 on our Exchange Server(running Exchange 2003). We are using OWA w/ FBA. We can access the OWA page within the network however, we can no longer do so from outside of the network. Our firewall is ISA 2000 runing on Server 2003. When we try to access OWA from outside we are prompted for our credentials. However, we input the credential and still cannot see the FBA page. I've done it before with Hostrocket and it worked from the outset, so I never had a reason to ask if it should not work. In the present case Earthlink is the domain host, and it seems that they can't get the MX record to point to the office server properly. I simply asked them to change the MX record, and they did it this way at first, company.com. MX 10 mail.company.com. mail.company.com. IN CNAME dyndnsdomain.com. which I now know to be wrong, but I assumed they knew how to do it. that will be one domain, one admin group, two routine groups structure.
the existing domain has an exchange server 2003 runing.
new site has been created with a new DC. AD has been replicated between two
sites.
is there a step-by-step instruction of how to do this?
Do I need to create the new routine group from the existinig exchange server
before the new installation,
or the new RG can be created during the new exchange server setup?

Create the new routing group before you install the new Exchange server, so
that you get a choice of which routing group to install it into during
setup. You can move servers between routing groups later if you have to.
