I am setting up a new DC server(W2K3) which will also be the exchange (2003)
server. This server will be replacing old hardware that is having trouble and
is in need of replacment. The old server is functioning in the same role with
the same OS and exchange software. The questions I have are; 1. Would I be
better off setting up the new server with same computer and domain names or
different? and which is the prefered method of migrating exchange data from
old to new server once naming and setting up is complete?

Different computer name. Add it to the domain as a member server.
If you're going to remove the old box completely, you can run DCPROMO on the
new box, make it a DC.

Install Exchange on the new box and add it to the Exchange org. Move
mailboxes, replicate public folders. Follow kba 822931 to remove old server.
(If you want to keep it as a Domain Controller, uninstall Exchange).

Thanks for the tips. It will mean starting again setting up OS but cannot
afford dramas with exchange migration. Thanks again.
